Nous sommes alle dans tous les endroits que tu cites, et mon mari Dive Master Padi a plonge sur chacun, en plusieurs voyages et dans un delai qui remonte maxi a 3 ans :
Voila notre compte rendu (de plongeur + non - plongeur).
Tulamben :
Avis plongeur : Visi moyenne (malgres tout ce qui est annonce par les dive shop), site epave assez interessant : le Liberty, mais c'est l'usine. Trop de monde et ce des 8 h le matin. Le fameux site " drop off ", le site phare est lui aussi tres largement surestime. Avantage, ce wall qui descent subitement de 1 a 40 metres est pratiquable par a peu pres tout plongeur.
Avis non plongeur : L'effet " Usine " se fait sentir un peu partout. Les lieux sont pollues par le scuba-business.
Ahmed :
Avis plongeur : Meme combat que la proche Tulamben, l'epave en moins. Mais plus calme que Tulamben au niveau frequentation.
Avis Non-plongeur : La decouverte des petits villages de pecheurs avoisinant est un regal. A voir : les techniques d'extraction du sel sur la plage.
En ce qui concerne Bali, tu oublies le plus sympa ! :
Lovina :
Avis plongeur : Des dauphins ! une belle visi jusqu'a 40 metres, des sites hyper varies autour des petites iles au large.
Avis non-plongeur : la proximite avec les sources chaudes de Panjar (une merveille), le seul temple boudhiste (et non hondouiste) de l'ile, magnifique, les chutes de Git-Git (a voir), les cultures de the, cafe, vanille, clous de girofle. Tout ca faisable en une journee en etant bases a Lovina. Les prix sont nettement inferieurs a ceux de Tulamben pour tout, et cerise sur le gateau la petite ville de Lovina est extremement agreable, paisible sans etre paumee.
L'ile de Nusa Penida :
Avis plongeur : le top a Bali !!!, Mantas, requins et surtout.... les fameux sunfish, ou mola-molas, ou poisson-lunes uniques au monde. Probleme : sites accessibles a des plongeurs experimentes uniquement. (on ne connait pas votre niveau + nombre de plongees...).
Avis non plongeur : Vraiment pas grand chose a faire en dehors de plonger...
Lombok :
Avis Pongeur : Pas du tout incontournable pour tout, mais prix nettement inferieurs a Bali.
Avis non plongeur : la plage de kuta au sud est sublime, tres authentique. l'ile est assez sauvage, pas trop pervertie par le fric. Paysages magnifiques...
Les Gili (Trawangan et Meno ) :
Avis Plongeur : Le panard total !!! Tortues et requins a pointes blanches a foison, diversite phenomenale, visi formidable. Accessible a tous. 1 ere plongee sur le site = 17 tortues !
Avis non-plongeur : j'ai adore ! les plus belles plages (vraiment le paradis sur terre), sont a Meno ou tu peux aller facilement pour la journee depuis Trawangan en 10 mns de bateau.
Ballades en roulotte a cheval (il n'y a que ca aux Gilis comme transport), hebergement tres varies cote budjet, gentillesse et simplicite de la population.
De petites iles hors du temps et super reposantes apres la richesse culturelle et le nombre de visites possibles sur Bali.
Et rien qu'avec un tuba, tu en plein la tete dans 2 metres d'eau !
Je finierai par te donner en lien, le site d'un couple de francais qui connait les sites de L'Indo comme sa poche : a Lire et a relire car il contient une somme colossale d'infos pratiques.
Et quand tu auras fini de le parcourir, tu pourras toujours t'offrir une super recre en lisant leur article : " Le plongeur qui se la pete ", a mourir de rire...Et tellement vrai.

Vous trouverez des instructeurs francophones partout aux Gili, que ce soit sur Air ou Trawangan. Dans absolument tous les centres !
L'avantage de Trawangan par rapport a Air. c'est que la concentration de tortues est plus dense, meme si le reste, reste tout aussi magnifique.
Et avis de non plongeur : Elle est plus anime qu'Air. Plus de choix de ballades, d'Hotel, de restaus.
Bref moi je pense que si l'on considere tous les parametres, les Gili restent le meilleur plan en dehors de Nusa Penida la merveilleuse, mais qui requiert un niveau confirme.

Il y a 2 clubs, un sur Gili trawangan et l'autre sur Gili air. J'ai fait 12 plongées a partir de Gili air, bien plus tranquille pour nous.
Les plongées sont juste incroyable, superbe, magnifique 🙂
Des requins pointes noires et blanches, des hippocampes, des poissons pierres, poissons scorpions, nudibranches, raies, murenes, barracudas, poissons licornes, tortues, langoustes, etc.
C'est egalement de bonnes plongées si tu aime la macro.
J'ai plongée sur les 3 iles et si tu as besoin de plus d'infos, je checkerai mon journal de plongée pour te donner les spots 😉

D'après les renseignements recueillis, beaucoup m'ont conseillé gili TRAWANGAN, je prend donc note de plonger à MANTA DIVE. J'ai trouvé sur le net le centre Trawangan dive qui propose hébergement + plongées : 5 nuits/4 jours à raison de 3 dives par jour pour 495 usd (environ 340 €) mais si tu connais un centre plus sympa à tarif raisonnable, je suis intéressée. A priori le BLUE MARLIN DIVE est plus cher. Je souhaite trouver des petits bungalows sympas près de la plage et un centre sérieux avec un bon équipement. Mon fils et moi meme n'avons pas encore beaucoup d'expérience, on a eu notre padi l'année dernière et avons donc peu de plongées à notre actif ! je suis de toute façon sûre que nous serons encore émerveillés de voir la vie sous marine.
Petite question, nous serons à UBUD, quel est le meilleur moyen d'aller directement aux gilis à moindre cout ? j'ai vu qu'il y avait les fast boat avec PERAMA qui peuvent partir soit d'UBUD, soit de PADANG BAY pour seulement 2 heures de trajet.

Pour les fast boat, il faut compter 69€ aller de memoire.
De notre cote, on avait negocie a 14€ du port de Bali à Lombok plus traverse au gili's (bateau+ferry). Il faut bien compter une journée 😛
Pour le plan avec les nuits, s'est tres correct avec 12 dives sur 4 jours.
Perso, je te conseille Gili air car bcp plus calme. Trawangan est plus l'ile pour les soirées, elle est la plus peuplé...😕
Gili air est entre Meno la plus petite et Trawangan. Tu trouvera un excellent italien, du tres bon snorkelling, etc.
Pour les bungalow, vas sur notre site ds les photos de lombok et tu verra le notre.
On a paye environs 15€ la nuit je crois...

J'ai trouvé un autre tarif sur le web avec peramatour en partant d'Ubud pour gilis le tarif est de 500.000 rps (soit environ 40 €) et le trajet dure 2 h et non pas une journée, j'ai du mal à faire une comparaison avec toi, de toute façon je verrais sur place, il sera toujours temps de négocier les prix et de faire un choix par rapport au temps de trajet.
En fait j'ai choisi TRAWANGAN aussi pour les soirées, je serais avec mon fils de 21 ans et mon neveu de 24 je pense qu'ils auront envie de sortir le soir, à moins que de bonnes journées de plongées les épuisent !
Nous irons voir gilis AIR, il parait que c'est facile d'y accèder et rien ne nous empeche d'y rester aussi quelques jours.
Je pars donc le 31 juillet, mais je prévois de prendre quelques jours sur KUTA (toujours pour la fête, les activités sportives des garçons), ensuite quelques jours sur l'incontournable UBUD et ses alentours soit environ 8/10 jours selon nos envies. Donc il m'est difficile de réserver à l'avance sauf peut être 2/3 jours avant d'y aller car nous serons sur place. Je pense garder 5/6 jours pour la plongée et espère avoir assez de temps pour finir à JAVA voir le KAWA IJEN. Nous avons en tout 20 jours pleins.

We’re planning a trip to Thailand for next summer. It’s the rainy season, but that’ll let us explore forest parks (Khao Yai and Khao Sok, most likely) in full bloom and teeming with wildlife. We’d also like to spend a few days on beaches with nearby coral reefs during this trip. That’s where we’re hitting a snag—I’m struggling to find an island or region with favorable weather. I’ve gone through quite a few threads on this forum, but most are pretty old and mention a few names (Tao, Phaluai, Ma, or Phang Nga), though with doubts about visibility or overall appeal. Crowds also seemed like a bit of an issue. Just to clarify, our family has mixed interests when it comes to fish-related activities—some are Level 1 divers, while others are snorkelers only.

I’d describe myself as a "former diver." I’ve done around 450 dives in natural environments across different settings. I put diving on hold about 5 years ago due to work/schedule constraints and, let’s say, family reasons. Since then, I’ve still tried to stay in shape with hiking trips, running, swimming, and freediving in protected environments, etc...

We’ll be in Dahab again this October—we’ve been going since 1979—to freedive. In 2025, to our surprise, access to the Blue Hole is now paid: on top of the 10 € taxi fare, you have to pay $10 per person to enter the park. So we’re heading outside Dahab to the Three Pools site by bike, rented locally. Is there a bus that goes there, or shared taxis, instead of the tourist taxis? And where can we catch them? We’ve seen big buses full of local families on the site, but we don’t know where to find them. Thanks in advance!

For flight schedules and prices from Bordeaux, and ease of reaching Alexandria by bus/train afterward, I’m considering spending 4 days around Hurghada (direct flight from Bdx).
I don’t think I’ll go for courses to get my Level 1, since I don’t plan to dive often in the future—unless you think it’s better than doing 2 discovery dives in this area (I only have one baptism under my belt, in Koh Tao 15 years ago—amazing! But I’m not targeting trips for diving; I need to go to Alexandria, so this is a chance to get back into diving and snorkeling).
I’m looking for a spot to do some snorkeling, 1 or 2 baptisms, and explore the surroundings. I’ll arrive in early March on the evening of Day 0. I’ll have 3.5 days after that (I’m planning to leave on Day 4 around 4 PM by bus/train).
Is Hurghada completely to be avoided in favor of another area in the Red Sea, or can I still have a nice 3.5 days there? I know places like Dahab are more pleasant, but the convenience and timing of Hurghada appeal to me...
I usually prefer more authentic travel spots and places, but I’m willing to compromise on that if it’s still worth it for the diving.
Or should I only stay 2.5 days and head to Alexandria a day earlier? (I’ve already seen Cairo and Luxor a bit.)

With my advanced certification in hand for a few years now, I’m on the lookout for the best dive spots in Malaysia.
I’ve obviously heard about the Perhentians and Sipadan.
Someone mentioned Tioman too, but not necessarily for diving.
Do you have any feedback on these places for diving? (visibility, marine life diversity, etc.)
Any idea about the rates for fun dives?

I’m looking for a destination in Vietnam for January to spend a week and go snorkeling.

I know Thailand well, and with my Thai friend, we’d like to try a different country.
This is the excursion we shouldn’t have done in Mauritius.
We did it with The Friendly Dodo, but from what I saw, it’s the same with most agencies.
Departure at 6 a.m. (even though the sun rises at 7 a.m. in August). Why? Because there’s only one well-known spot where the dolphins are, and all the agencies race to get there first.
For 45 to 60 minutes, it’s just straight-line navigation to the spot. No one’s looking for dolphins—we’re just speeding there in silence, full throttle.
Once we arrive, there are already 5-6 boats. The dolphins are there, sure. The boats fight for the best position, cutting off the dolphins’ path, and then—go, go, go—everyone jumps in. Not a single instruction is given on how to approach the dolphins respectfully. Result: everyone jumps in at the same time from 3 boats, creating a huge splash, and rushes toward the dolphins. Outcome: faced with this chaos, the dolphins dive, and you can’t see them from the boat anymore. The swimmers who are right in their path might see them pass below for a few seconds at best.
Everyone climbs back onto the boats, and as soon as the dolphins resurface, the same cycle starts all over again.
After 5 or 6 jumps like this (3 of which I didn’t even see the dolphins), it’s back to the port the same way we came.
Not a single explanation is given during the entire excursion about the dolphins themselves or how to approach them.
Safety-wise, I didn’t feel comfortable either with all the boats fighting for position. I bumped into another boat (no pain) while swimming, and I wasn’t reassured about the propellers.
With all this circus, my daughters didn’t even want to get in the water. The problem is, when you stay on the boat, you don’t get much out of it either—because as soon as the dolphins resurface, everyone jumps in haphazardly and scares them off again.
Having done the same kind of outing in Réunion, I can confirm it’s nothing like this (much better organized and ultimately much more rewarding in Réunion).
Under these conditions, this is an activity we never should’ve done! !

I’ve been in Malaysia for a month now and still have two more to go. I started traveling with friends, but I’ll be solo for the next month and a half.
We did a pretty classic route: Perhentians, Cameron Highlands (which I found pointless), Tioman, and Kinabatangan in Borneo. Now I’m thinking of heading to Redang Island—Langkawi is also an option, but it doesn’t appeal to me as much. Any feedback on these two spots?

So far, I haven’t had much luck with diving—at the Perhentians, it was pretty disastrous with water at 31°C 😵😫
I’d love to find a nice island where I can meet people (locals and travelers) because going from a group of six to solo at the end is going to feel weird.

notre voyage en Indonésie étant annulé, et notre agence nous déconseillant l'Egypte, nous sommes à la recherche d'un lieu où nous pourrons faire du snorkeling depuis la plage (et en excursion bateau). Je connais un peu Zanzibar pour y être allé il y a plus de 10 ans, ainsi que Pemba (mais les prix ont explosé), et je me tourne aussi vers Mafia.
Est ce propice au snorkeling , des resorts ont ils des house reef où l'on peut voir des choses intéressantes (je ne m'attends pas non plus au niveau de la Sulawesi ou des Raja).

Ce que j'aime en plongée c'est l'eau claire, les fonds marins attrayants, la vie aquatique particulière, etc. Je ne suis pas une fan d'épaves, mais je considérerai tout les sites / pays proposés :)
