Je vais faire le tour de la Californie en Septembre prochain.
Par contre au départ j'avais prévu deux journée à Las Vegas (2 nuits).
Mais je me rend compte qu'il serait peut-être plus sympa de rester un jour de plus à San Francisco plutôt qu'à Las Vegas.
Donc nous quitterons Yosemite le matin pour traverser la vallée de la mort et arrivée à Las Vegas dans le milieu de l'après-midi. Nous comptons y rester une bonne partie de la journée du lendemain et quitter fin d'après-midi pour arriver en soirée à Grand Canyon.
Donc nous aurions presque une journée complète car départ vers 16h pour le Grand Canyon et une demi journée.
Qu'en pensez-vous ? Est-ce suffisant ?
Il faudrait que tu mettes l'intégralité de ton circuit prévu 😉. Vu comme ça l'ensemble a l'air très rapide! Par exemple, tu pars à 16h de Vegas, donc arrivée de nuit au Grand Canyon... J'espère que tu as donc 2 nuits au Grand Canyon 😉
Oui, tout à fait d'accord avec Itat. De plus, de mon point de vue, un bon stop à Las Vegas, permet de recharger les batteries car comme tu le verras, même si le voyage est fantastique la fatigue peut s'accumuler après beaucoup de jours de route.
Par ailleurs, Vegas n'est pas le seul centre d'intérêt de la région. Il y a des parcs autour qui sont très sympa.
Partir à 16h pour arriver de nuit au GC n'a pas beaucoup d'intérêt, mieux vaut faire une bonne nuit à Vegas et partir à la fraiche. En partant à 16h, tu ne seras pas eu GC avant 20h ou 21H (sachant que le soleil est couché depuis un bout de temps). Par contre, cette solution suppose que tu reste une nuit au GC ou pas trop loin ... à toi de voir 😉
Oui je mettrai l'intégralité de mon planning mais je dois encore revoir 2-3 trucs.
Oui je reste deux nuit à Grand Canyon. Arrivée prévue le mardi soir.
Sur place : toute la journée du mercredi (on aimerai faire une petite descente, j'ai vu que c'était possible, pas tout dans le fond car comme je l'ai lu il faut un jour pour descendre et un jour pour remonter...).
Et Jeudi, on aimerai faire les points de vue. On compte quitter le jeudi Grand Canyon fin d'après-midi pour arriver en soirée à Phoenix étant donné que l'on reprend l'avion le vendredi main.
Pour ce qu'il y a à voir entre Yosemite et Vegas ça me parait très juste 😉 car si j'ai bien compris tu fais Yosemite - Vegas d'une seule traite?

Je reste à Yosemite deux jours. Je compte quitter San Francisco samedi matin pour arriver aux alentours de midi à Yosemite park. Y passer l'après-midi + soirée + nuit. Nous restons également sur place toute la journée + nuit du dimanche. Et nous quitterons Yosemite park lundi matin pour se diriger vers Death Valley et puis Las Vegas.
Arrivée à Las Vegas fin d'après-midi (lundi). Y passer cette fin d'après-midi + soirée + nuit.
Nous resterons sur place mardi et comptons quitter Las Vegas fin d'après-midi pour arriver à Grand Canyon le soir.
Nous passerons la première nuit à Grand Canyon le mardi. Le Mercredi, nous serons sur plce toute la journée (prévue de descendre) + nuit. Et Jeudi, nous serons sur place une bonne partie de la journée car nous souhaitons arriver le soir à phoenix (Retour vers Bruxelles vendredi matin).
un bon stop à Las Vegas, permet de recharger les batteries

Si vous n'êtes pas trop fêtarde ni joueuse, que vous souhaitez visiter les hôtels et voir un show, 1 jour + 1 nuits sont suffisants pour moi ! Après, c'est sûr, il y a bcp bcp d'activités et selon vos intérêts, vous pouvez rester facilement 3-4 jours sans vous y ennuyer : journée(s) shopping pour les fans de marques et d'Outlet, animations de rue, spectacles, décors, casinos, bar et boites, attractions (NYNY, stratosphere, etc)
moi aussi je trouve ça ardu, c'est plus de 700km (je ne sais pas d’où vous partez à Yosemite),
8h30 de route sans les visites ! Vous arriverez à Las Vegas de nuit
le lendemain, en partant de Lv en fin d'apm, vous arriverez à Grand Canyon de nuit (450 km - 4h15 sans arrêt)

Nous dormons le samedi à Housekeeping camp à Yosemite.
Le dimanche je pensais qu'on pouvait continuer la visite des parcs en se rapprochant de la death valley et dormir au environs de Bishop.
A la base je voulais dormir près de Lee Vining la deuxième nuit mais comme je vois vos avis, le trajet sera éprouvant c'est pour cette raison que je pensais peut-être me rapproché de Bishopt et passer la nuit là bas avant de reprendre la voiture vers Death Valley et Las Vegas.
Je ne comprends pas grand chose,

Points d'intérêts à Yosemite Park : El Capitan, Yosemite Falls, Hald Dome et Glacier (Points proche de notre lieu de nuit qui est Housekeeping camp).
Nous aimerions quitter San Francisco le matin(samedi 14) pour arriver à Yosemite aux alentours de midi. Faire le max de visites (voir points d'intérêts ci dessus).
Passer la nuit à Housekeeping et si nous n'avons pas eu le temps de tout voir, continuer à visiter les points d'intérêts le dimanche matin (dimanche 15).
Prendre la route vers Lone Pine(s'arrête pour la nuit avant d'aller vers Las Vegas).
Pour arriver à Lone Pine, voici ce que je pensais faire : démarrer de Yosemite Park, prendre la Tioga Road vers Lee Vining. Arrivée à Leen Vining prendre la direction de Lone Pine via la US-395S.
Selon Google, il y a 350km de Yosemite Park à Lone Pine ==> réalisable en une journée voir une demi journée non ?
Que pensez-vous des visites à Yosemite Park, est-ce que mes points d'intérêts vous semble bon ? Combien de temps pour les visiter ?
El Capitan et Half Dome j'imagine que tu ne parles pas de leur ascension 😉. Donc s'il s'agit d'un point de vue distant tu auras l'occasion les voir de multiples endroits de la vallée ainsi que de Glacier Point.
Glacier Point: 1h de route du fond de la vallée. Point de vue.
Yosemite Falls; j'imagine que tu parles de Lower et non de la rando jusqu’à Upper. Prévoir une trentaine de minutes.
Pas de Mariposa Grove Of Giant Sequoias? Du côté de Glacier Point (peuplé!) il faudrait faire une balade avec une vue aussi belle, par exemple Sentinel Dome, mais avec beaucoup moins de monde que Glacier Point.
Dommage de rater le Mist Trail qui passe près de Vernal et Nevada Falls.
La route de Yosemite à Lone Pine est faisable en une demi journée mais sans s'arrêter, or il y a des choses à voir quand même tout le long.
Penses-tu que El Capitan, Yosemite Falls, Haf Dome, Glacier Point et Sentinel Dome peut-être est faisable en une demi journée ? ou penses-tu qu'il me faudra la matinée du dimanche matin ?
Pour les Giants Sequoias je pense que c'est plus éloigné non ? Donc pas faisable en terme de temps...
Les Giant Sequoias sont à Mariposa Grove à l'entrée sud de Yosemite. Quand tu arrives de San Francisco tu peux passer par là pour entrer dans Yosemite, tu y passeras donc devant. Ensuite tu files à Glacier Point.
El Capitan et Half Dome ne te prendront pas plus de temps puisque c'est juste des sommets que tu verras de nombreux endroits du parc. Sauf si tu as prévu l’ascension du Half Dome, mais il faut d'une part un permis et d'autre part une journée entière rien que pour ça 😉

After that, we’re heading to Sherbrooke to visit our daughter, who’s studying at the university there. We’ll spend 3 days with her, and then, since she has a break that week, we’re taking her along for 3 days in Quebec City.
We’ve planned to visit Montmorency Falls and Île d'Orléans.
I’d love to hear what route you’d recommend for the drive from Sherbrooke to Quebec City—we’ll have the whole day to take it easy.

A friend is renting a car for an upcoming trip during the All Saints' holiday.
Nowadays, all rental cars come with GPS, but do you know if you can use it without paying for the GPS rental? I have no idea since I always use my own!
After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.

I’m planning a week-long family trip to NYC in October 2026. The focus is on museums and soaking up the New York vibe. I’ve been checking Airbnb, but the prices in Manhattan are through the roof. Since I don’t know NYC well, is it "wise" to look outside Manhattan? Any neighborhoods you’d recommend?
After our first trip to the West, we’d love to go back to see other must-see spots!

Just a little post that might interest some of you:

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

I’m planning a week in S.F. in April 2026 and I can’t figure out how to tell the cable cars—of which I understand there are three lines—apart from the trams, which I think number seven. I can’t find their individual numbers or routes anywhere.
