Hi there, the island of Limnos (or Lemnos) looks like a great spot for a September trip: not too many tourists at that time, plenty of hiking opportunities, beaches, villages, etc. That said, guidebooks mention an airbase on the island, with some sources saying there are more or less frequent aircraft flyovers. For those who’ve been there—how’s the situation with this? Lots of air traffic or noise issues? Thanks in advance

Hi Noushka,

No need to worry, it’s not like Roissy either! :-) The civil airport in Limnos is shared with the military airport, but honestly, it’s not bothersome at all. There aren’t flights every day.

Have a great trip!

Thanks! The info in the guidebooks was contradictory on this topic.

We were in Lemnos/Limnos two years ago and didn’t see a single military plane except for the wrecks displayed in the military section of the airport.

For civilian flights, there are 2 or 3 flights a day at most. We stayed in the village of Neo-Koutali, which is about 1 km directly in line with the runway. It didn’t bother me at all. On the other hand, there are military zones here and there in the middle of nowhere where it’s not advisable to stop to take photos🙂
