Hi! I’m heading to Havana for a week in February. I’m looking for a casa particular that’s affordable, clean, and cozy. Since I’ll be traveling alone, I’d love a place where people are welcoming! Also, I really want to stay in Habana Vieja...

Do you have any recommendations for places you’ve stayed before? I tried booking the casa particular *Chez Nous*, but I never got a response.

Thanks!!

I was really disappointed by the attitude of several casa owners in Havana during my last trip. The welcome was often cold, the owners seemed to have pesos instead of hearts—everything was counted, and I almost got charged for the air I breathed. Ugh...

Be careful when booking your casa! And take advantage of the tips from forum members who’ve had better experiences than me!

Personally, I was completely put off and not sure I’d stay in a casa in Havana again.

hi juliette.j, I found this link for you. casas in Cuba with addresses. have a great trip! http://www.particuba.net/villes/la_habana/index.html

Aw, thanks for your opinion, Sonrisa.

And thanks, Cubero, for the address! That gives me some ideas...

If anyone’s had a great experience in a casa in Havana, in the Old Havana neighborhood... I’m still waiting for your recommendations, everyone!! :)

I’ve got an excellent casa with a host who’s a real mom to her guests! 25 CUC per night. The meals are really good and reasonably priced (around 10 CUC for dinner).

But it’s in Vedado, 25th street between 4th and 6th. You’ll need to take a taxi to get to Habana Vieja. But Vedado is a really nice neighborhood too—it’s close to 23rd Street and the Malecón.
JU Juliette77 ·
Thanks so much, MariaPierra! Could you give me the details, please? It’s not in the neighborhood I was looking for, but Vedado still seems really interesting!!

If anyone else has recommendations, I’m still waiting! :)

Thanks!!

I'm leaving today for Havana to stay in a casa for a month. I've already stayed in Vedado—it has a private entrance and patio. You can check out their site: casa pacoymercy 30 CUC, very clean. A taxi to Old Havana costs 5 CUC. It's on 19th Street at the corner of 20th. There are lots of casas in that area.

Hello,

We just returned from a 10-day family trip to Cuba. We spent two days in Old Havana upon arrival and stayed at Rodolfo Morales and Elsa Estanque’s casa particular (30 CUC). A little paradise right in the heart of the old town! We highly recommend this casa—it’s perfectly located, comfortable, and has an extraordinarily warm welcome. Rodolfo and Barbara (Elsa) have only been hosting tourists for two months, but we’re sure their success is guaranteed! Word of mouth from delighted travelers will, we hope, ensure the success of their small tourism venture.

Address: Inquisidor No 556 apt. 5 between Jesús María and Acosta streets Phone: 862-7100

When we arrived in Havana, the casa we had previously booked no longer had a room available! The owner, apologetic, referred us to a friend’s casa nearby. Rodolfo, a 68-year-old retiree, came to pick us up and walked with us, carrying all our luggage through Havana’s cobbled streets. It was starting to get dark, and we really wondered where we were headed, especially since the street wasn’t the most inviting. We entered an old building that, at first glance, didn’t look very appealing and began climbing the spiral staircase. Though Rodolfo assured us we’d love his casa, we started to have our doubts... Imagine our surprise when we arrived at a magnificent colonial-style apartment with a balcony overlooking Havana Bay! The owners’ living space is adjacent to the apartment, ensuring complete privacy for guests while still allowing for real interaction with these friendly hosts. The living room leads to a comfortable, well-ventilated bedroom and a very large bathroom. We easily fit four people (two adults, two teens) in this stunning apartment. From the casa, we could easily explore the old town on foot and reach numerous restaurants and cafés in the evening... Rodolfo and Barbara are very attentive to our needs and, if you’d like, will happily chat with you. I speak Spanish, which made communication much easier, and we learned a lot about Cuban life, the education system, healthcare, etc. Rodolfo’s breakfasts are excellent and hearty (3 CUC/person: homemade juice, bread, butter, cookies, onion and chorizo tortillas, chicken and cheese burgers—yum!), served in the sunny living room. So don’t hesitate for a second to visit this fantastic casa particular! If you’d like, message us privately, and we can send you photos and provide more details.

Happy travels!

Good evening,

How can I book Rodolpho’s casa particular? Is it possible to do it online?

Best regards, jp

Hi, We unfortunately don’t have Rodolfo and Barbara’s email address, but we do have their phone number: 862-7100 (add Cuba’s international dialing code). We were taken straight there from another casa particular we’d booked. It’s definitely worth getting in touch with them. Have a great trip to Cuba! Les Bouboulap

Hi, Is the casa a room in Rodolfo’s apartment, like a bedroom with a private terrace? You mentioned an apartment—I didn’t quite get it. Thanks so much for your help
AR Arybouboulap ·
Hi,

It's a small apartment with a bedroom, bathroom, living room, and balcony, adjoining the rooms where Rodolfo's family lives. The owners give visitors plenty of privacy while still being very helpful. Breakfast is served in the sunny living room.

Have a great trip!

Hi,

I’ve tried calling their casa several times with no luck. Have any of you managed to get an email address for them? Or a website that lists them? Thanks a bunch! Marie

Hi, Unfortunately, I only have the phone number. Otherwise, I have an address two minutes away, on the nearby street, where we stayed on our return. At Nelson’s, also very good, but not as welcoming. He might be able to tell you how to reach Rofolfo. http://www.cubaradiso.com/Alojamientos/La-Habana-Vieja/Dos-Leones.html nelsonsarduy@enet.cu Good luck, Arybou

Hi everyone, I just got back from Cuba and wanted to share some tips about this site: casa particular Cuba. There are lots of houses, and the director Alejandro is always ready to help in Cuba
VO Voyageuse86 ·
Hello,

We just got back from Cuba (December 2014) and also stayed at Rodolfo and Elsa’s casa particular after reading the great tips in this post.

We highly recommend them—out of all the casas we stayed at, they were by far the most welcoming, the friendliest, and truly trustworthy.

You can now contact them by email by sending a message to Elsa at ania@planmaestro.ohc.cu, making sure to write "PARA ELSA" in the subject line. (Though I think you’ll need to write in Spanish.)

The price per night hasn’t changed: 30 CUC for the room with a private bathroom and living area, plus 4 CUC per person for breakfast.

Thanks for the great tip, and happy travels to those who follow!

Hello,

We were in Havana in February 2016, and we followed your great tips for staying in Havana. We had an amazing time at Rodolfo and Elsa’s place. What more can I say.... Don’t hesitate for a second!!!! Elsa and Rodolfo are wonderful people who hosted us for a week. The apartment is really lovely, very well located (just 1 minute from Plaza Vieja). We got lots of great advice for our adventure—great places to eat and excellent casas particulares in other cities. They taught us so much about their history; it was an incredible human experience and undoubtedly the best of all my travels.

So thank you, Elsa and Rodolfo, And thank you, Voyage Forum (or rather, you, the users) for these invaluable tips.

this site is a Mexico-based middleman, anything but Cuban! Until recently, it was hosted in Miami and Texas....

Hi, Can Rodolfo and Elsa host 4 travelers (2 couples)?

From what I can tell, there shouldn’t be any issue since there are two bedrooms and they welcome families. You can send them an email—Elsa will get back to you quickly ;)

Hi, I know your post is old, but better late than never. I recommend the following site:

https://www.casasparticulares.net/fr

There, the houses are ranked based on quality, and the owner’s friendliness is one of the most important factors. Don’t let bad experiences discourage you—there are excellent options in Cuba.

I was really disappointed by the attitude of several casa owners in Havana during my last trip. The welcome was often cold, the owners seemed to have pesos instead of hearts, everything was counted—next thing you know, they’d charge you for the air you breathe. Ugh... Do your research before picking a casa! And take advantage of the tips from forum members who’ve had better experiences than I did! Personally, I was so put off that I’m not sure I’d stay in a casa in Havana again.

Hi, I’m thinking of going to Cuba sometime in November. Among the booking sites, I’ve found Hostelworld and Airbnb (and none of the usual ones!). Yours interests me, but it seems significantly more expensive? Do you know if it’s not the same standard? Also, I couldn’t find the quality/hospitality rating... Thanks.
