Buying Larimar jewelry in La Romana

Hi there,

I’m heading to Bayahibe this winter. It’ll be my second time in this country, where I feel so at home. I’d love to bring back some Larimar jewelry... the real deal.

I saw some at a shop in the Iberostar Dominicus hotel, but I’m guessing I can find it cheaper elsewhere. Maybe in La Romana?

If anyone has any tips on this, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

No idea about La Romana, but right in that hotel boutique you’ll find prices that can easily be triple the normal rate for larimar and amber.

If you happen to pass through Santo Domingo during your stay, I can give you a tip for buying directly from a workshop ;).

Cheers,

Pablo

Thanks Blopart for your reply. However, I won’t be going through Santo Domingo during my stay in the DR.

I assume the larimar factory is in the city itself!

Too bad. I’ll do my best to find some at my vacation spot.

Thanks again. Maybe I’ll reach out to you again for more info if needed. I can see from the forum that you’re really helpful to people like me who don’t know much about the DR.

Ok Danbaya!

In that case, ask the hotel staff if they know of any local jewelry workshops in the La Romana area where you can go to buy at a good price. Otherwise, you can ask the locals in Bayahibe for this info.

Cheers and have a great vacation,

Pablo

Thanks Pablo,

I’ll keep that in mind. You’re right, I hadn’t thought of that.

Hello Blopart, I’m heading to the Dominican Republic in February and would also like to bring back some small Larimar jewelry. I’ll be staying at the DREAMS LA ROMANA hotel, and we’re visiting Santo Domingo. Could you give me a tip for buying some directly from a workshop? Thanks

Hi,

Of course! My friend’s workshop is located in the eastern part of Santo Domingo (it’s the area just before crossing the Ozama River to reach the Colonial Zone, where the tour operator’s bus will drop you off to visit the city). This means you’ll need to take a taxi to get there. The taxi fare shouldn’t be more than $250 at the moment (though you should check for next February), but if you plan to buy some amber or larimar jewelry, you’ll definitely save 3 or 4 times the final price you’d find in shops/gift stores ;).

Let me know as your trip date gets closer so I can give you the workshop’s address.

Cheers,

Pablo

Awesome! Thanks! No problem, I’ll reach out before the trip. Do you have any other "tips" for excursions, things to see, or other gift ideas to bring back?

Hi there,

Here in Santo Domingo, the Colonial Zone is still the most interesting area to visit. Then, for gifts, you can stroll along the pedestrian street El Conde in the Colonial Zone—you’ll find plenty of things to buy as typical souvenirs from our country😉.

Cheers,

Hi Pablo,

I’m really interested in buying some Larimar jewelry and would love to visit your friend’s workshop, which is located in the eastern part of Santo Domingo, during my vacation. I just love the beautiful color of this stone. Do you have a phone number or address so I can arrange a meet-up? Thanks, and have a great day!

Okay Yolant, I'll send you the details in a private message.

You can also find quite a few shops if you take a stroll through the Colonial Zone where you’ll be able to compare prices.

Yeah, the larimar stones are really beautiful😎.

Have a great vacation,

Pablo
