Je viens tout juste de revenir d'un séjour d'une semaine au Grand Paradise Playa Dorada à Puerto Plata. Si vous voulez mon avis, cet hôtel est vraiment désuet et mon expérience à cet hôtel a été des plus désagréable!!
Personnel très bête, surtout ceux à la réception!! La plage est laide; il y a tout plein de débris sur le sable!! Sans parler des vendeurs qui nous harcèlent sans arrêt même quand on fait la sieste!!
Il a plu toute la semaine et les tuiles de céramique ou nous devions marcher pour se rendre à nos chambres étaient constamment glissantes à cause de l'eau. Les gens de l'entretien ne passaient pas très souvent pour enlever l'eau. Ils ne mettaient que des pancartes Attention plancher glissant. WOW!!!
L'accès Internet était nul!! Il y avait trois ordinateurs disponibles aux touristes et aucun des ordinateurs ne fonctionnaient! Ils n'ont jamais rien fait pour les rendre fonctionnels!
La musique sur le site était horrible!! Que des vieux succès américains des années 80 et 90 et souvent quétaines! Non mais quand on va dans le sud, est-ce que c'est possible d'écouter de la musique locale svp ???
La chambre était ordinaire et la salle de bain était petite comme ma main!! Ça prenait au moins 5 minutes avant d'avoir de l'eau chaude.
La bouffe était très ordinaire et m'a causé des problèmes intestinaux.
Les seuls points positifs de mon voyage étaient mes excursions ou j'ai pu sortir du resort!
Vraiment, je ne retournerai plus jamais à Puerto Plata, encore moins à cet hôtel et je ne le recommande à personne! Un vrai gaspillage d'argent!
Nous, nous étions au Grand Paradise du 14 au 21 avril.
La météo était de notre côté car la semaine avant et après notre séjour il y a eu beaucoup de pluie - nous, il a fait beau et chaud toute la semaine.
Nous étions très satisfaites du service. Nous étions dans une des chambres au 4e étage le premier soir (pas de balcon) - et le lendemain matin nous avons demandé une nouvelle chambre et par midi nous étions toutes installées dans la nouvelle chambre avec balcon (côté piscine). La chambre était pas très grande, mais nous avions une énorme salle de bain - aucun problème d'eau chaude.
Oui l'hôtel est plus vieux mais nous avons payés $800 pour la semaine - et nous nous attendions pas à un 5*. Nos attentes pour un 4* à Puerto Plata étaient pas mal remplies. Nous trouvons toujours quelque chose à notre goût dans le buffet, nous avons été très bien servies partout ou nous allions. Nous avons mangés au Resto à la carte 4 soirs. Certains gens se plaignait du service au buffet (problème à avoir du café, de l'eau, etc.) - nous n'avons pas vécus ses problèmes.
La plage était plus belle du côté droit de l'hôtel que du côté gauche. Les travailleurs nettoyaient la plage chaque matin. Oui, les vendeurs sont très achalants au début des vacances, mais après que nous leurs disont non merci - ils nous regardais même plus.
La seule chose que nous avons moins aimés et que le soir il n'y a rien à faire après le souper. Les spectacles ne sont vraiment pas bons (et surtout que nous devons allés dans une salle fermée à l'air climatisée).
Nous avons demandé pour un 'late-check-out' la dernière journée - et pour $30.00 nous avions notre chambre jusqu'à 17:00.
Pour l'accès internet, j'avais apporté mon iPad et pour $5.00 nous achetons 1 heure d'internet. Je pouvais m'asseoir avec mon iPad sur mon balcon et accès au Wifi.
Les hôtels à Puerto Plata sont pas mal plus vieux et certains hôtels ont besoins de rénovations - pour ce qui est du Grand Paradise une bonne couche de peinture sur les toits des édifices feras une grande différence. Pour ce qui est des Dominicains, ils sont tellements gentils et acceuillants ce qui fait que notre semaine fut très agréable.
Ça se détériore vite dans le sud. L'hôtel a rouvert ses portes en Janvier 2009 après de grosses rénovations. Malheureusement, je pense que la chaine d'hôtel Ahmsa Marina commence à dégringoler. Au Grand Paradise à Punta Cana, ce n'est pas le 4* qu'ils s'octroient, c'est plus un 3*.
Sur la Playa Dorada, il y a le Gran Ventana qui est très bien, c'est un 4* simple mais moderne et confortable. Un peu plus loin, tu as le Iberostar qui est un 4.5*
Cet hiver, les évaluations du GP étaient presques toutes négatives. C'est vrai aussi que quand il pleut, les évaluations sont plus négatives que positives.
Je suis habituée aux 3.5 à 4 étoiles mais je n'irai jamais au GP de Puerto Plata.
Je suis allée à plusieurs hôtels sur cette plage et mon préféré est le Gran Ventana.
Et comme destination, elle est moins chère qu'ailleurs en RD mais il faut vraiment faire ses recherches sur l'hôtel. Vive internet pour ça @

Tu fais bien de ne pas aller au GP, c'est un vrai gaspillage d'argent je te jure!!!
Avant d'abandonner Puerto Plata, qui est toujours abordable comme prix, je te suggère le GV. Nous sommes allés au GV 3 fois, et il est fort possible qu'on y retourne pour 2 semaines cet hiver.
Et pour la pluie, on n'a pas de contrôle la dessus. Quand je suis allée à Punta Cana en décembre 2010, il a plu pendant 2 jours, une autre fois fin janvier 2004 ou 2005, pendant 2 jours aussi.
Et à Puerto Plata, en plein milieu de mars, 2 jours de pluie et 1 jour gris.
Pendant que tu étais au GP, il faisait mauvais aussi dans d'autres destinations soleil. C'est plate, mais il n'y a rien à faire.

Je suis très d'accord avec toi. En janvier dernier, j'ai payé $936 pour le RIU Mambo. à 45 min. de l'aéroport. On avait booké en août. J'ai voyagé en septembre, octobre, décembre, janvier et en mars, jamais au printemps, et je ne crois pas que je vais le faire. Je préfère surveiller les aubaines, c'est a dire je surveille à tous les jours 😉 car je ne veux pas manquer la deal su siècle😉

I wanted to share a great discovery in the Marakele area because, in the end, this park doesn’t get talked about much compared to Kruger, even though it’s really worth the detour.
We discovered Cypiro Leopard Lodge, right next to Marakele National Park in the Waterberg. It’s a small property with just a few villas and suites, so it’s nothing like the big, crowded lodges. What we loved most was the feeling of being truly at the end of the world—lots of space, silence, and almost no one around.
And yet, it’s only about 3 hours from Johannesburg. Once you leave Joburg, the road is pretty straightforward, and you quickly find yourself in a much wilder Africa.
Marakele National Park was a huge surprise for us. There are plenty of animals, the Big Five are present, but best of all, very few people. At times, we drove for quite a while without seeing another car. It’s such a change from parks where you sometimes end up with 15 cars around one animal.
The landscapes are also stunning, with the Waterberg mountains, plains, and beautiful views from some of the trails.
We also learned on-site that Marakele is known for its very large Cape vulture colony—around 800 breeding pairs. When you climb into the mountains and see them soaring above, it’s pretty impressive.
The entire Waterberg region is actually a UNESCO-recognized biosphere reserve, and you quickly understand why once you’re there.
As for Cypiro, it’s a lodge that was recently taken over by French owners—really nice and approachable. The place is quite exclusive since there are very few accommodations. The villas and suites each have their own private pool, a wood-fired hot bath (like a KolKol), a braai, and an outdoor fireplace.
Evenings are especially lovely, especially with the peace and quiet all around.
Another thing we found really convenient: you can organize your stay however you like.
You can come self-catering and cook for yourself. There’s a supermarket in the nearby small town, practically on the way in, so you can do your shopping before arriving without making a big detour.
Or you can ask them to organize everything with breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Their chef, Ernest, cooks really well, and it lets you completely unwind for a few days.
We liked being able to alternate: some quiet meals on our own and others prepared for us.
That’s actually one of the things we appreciated here—it’s not an ultra-formal lodge where everything is scheduled at fixed times. You can head out early to Marakele, come back for lunch, enjoy the pool, go back out in the late afternoon, then have a braai or a relaxed dinner in the evening.
In terms of price, we also found the value for money really good for this level of accommodation and especially for the very private feel of the place. Sometimes it feels like you’re in a much more expensive lodge.
If you’re looking for lots of activity and dozens of people around you, this probably isn’t the right spot.
But for peace, wildlife, nature, wide-open spaces, and that feeling of being a little alone in the world, we absolutely loved it.

And if anyone knows Marakele or the Waterberg well, I’d love to hear about other spots to discover in the area.
While digging through the archives 🔍, we discovered a 19th-century journal 📜 bearing the name: "Le Petit Baigneur, weekly journal of beaches, spa towns, and thermal resorts in the South of France", published as early as 1886. Its motto? "All for the baths and by the baths" 🏖️ — what a program!
We found the name so amusing that we chose it to rename our hotel: Hôtel Le Petit Baigneur!
140 years later, we’re carrying on this seaside tradition of the South of France in our own way 🏊♂️ — with a few fewer crinolines, but just as much love for the seaside. 😊

I found a hotel, the Kappa Club Crystal Bay Resort, and online reviews for this hotel recommend a guide named Omar. I contacted him via WhatsApp, and he's offering a 2-day, 1-night safari in Tsavo East, a "blue safari," and a Marafa Canyon day trip for 400 € per person.
I’m asking for help from people who’ve already done these excursions because I have no idea what these offers entail.

Bonjour nous arriverons dimanche 5 mai ( à partir de 16h25) à l'aéroport de Punta Cana pour profiter d'un séjour que mon amie à gagner à l’hôtel Gran Bahia Principe La Romana.
L'avion est offert par la compagnie aérienne, l'hôtel je pense par la chaine hôtelière, mais aujourd'hui je m’inquiète du transfert car aucune info et j'apprends que rien n'est prévu.
D’après ce que j'ai vu le dernier car expreso part de Punta Cana à 16h00
Y-a t'il d'autres moyens de transports collectif (guagua) qui puisse faire le trajet ou au moins nous avancer jusqu'à La Romana ou San Pedro de Marcoris et je pense qu'on finira le trajet en taxi.
Si c'est trop compliqué ça sera navette privée mais on est plus "lonely planet " que navette privée et hôtel tout inclus.
