Hello everyone! Photo taken at the end of August off the coast of Tasiilaq (eastern Greenland). This is that kind of halo surrounding the top of this iceberg (it’s the only one I saw like this out of thousands). It’s apparently a light diffraction effect combined with moisture freezing above the iceberg. Estimated height of the iceberg: 30 m. Have a great day!

Never seen it either. When were you in Tasiilaq?

hi, This looks a lot like what we call in Quebec ''sea smoke,'' which you can see above the St. Lawrence River in winter when the weather conditions are right (it needs to be particularly cold, among other things).

Hi Marie Flore, I left Tasiilaq on August 29th and this photo was taken a few kilometers toward Iceland. Have a great day!

Did you enjoy your trip? We were there between July 17th and August 7th. You can follow our trip here—it's still being written up: https://forumvoyage.forumactif.com/t4819-groenland-est-le-grand-retour-en-famille

Hi Marie Flore, Our kayak was 126 m long......age has its perks! But what a discovery— we wanted to see icebergs, little houses, colors, landscapes... We saw another world, so quiet or nearly so, no roads, no traffic lights, no billboards, just tiny toy-like houses nestled against the hillside..... We’ve barely returned, and we’d leave again in a heartbeat. As for your travel journal......if only I could! Best,

Yikes, be careful—the Arctic virus is really dangerous. We never managed to get rid of it...

I’d already caught the one in Antarctica and Svalbard!

I forgot... I saw vehicles in the villages—pick-ups, quads—and in Sisimiut, an Inuit behind the wheel of a recent-model Ford Mustang! Yes, really, in Sisimiut! !

Svalbard is tempting, but polar bears are a real problem there. The risk of encountering one is statistically quite high. So, it’s a real deterrent for us. If we’re going to take risks, I’d rather go to Ittoqqortoormiit. But unfortunately, I think we’re also getting too old for those kinds of more challenging places. That’s why we’ll be paddling south toward Narsarsuaq next summer instead. We considered Uummannaq, but transportation is more expensive, and there’s a major landslide risk in the area. So, it’ll be the south. As for Antarctica, we’re not tempted at all—there’s no way to be self-sufficient there, and what we particularly love about the Arctic, besides the landscapes, is the sense of freedom.
