I’m traveling to Japan with a young adult with autism (ASD) from July 28 to August 8, following a pretty classic route: Osaka, Hiroshima, Kyoto, and Tokyo. I’m looking for a schedule of the most spectacular fireworks displays during that time. So far, the dates for the major *hanabi* events aren’t available online yet. If anyone has them, I’d really appreciate it if you could share!

Hi there! 😊

Some dates are already being announced for summer 2026. Here are a few major *hanabi* (fireworks) events during your stay:

🎆 Sumidagawa Hanabi (Tokyo) → July 25, 2026 🎆 Katsushika Hanabi (Tokyo) → July 28, 2026 🎆 Nagaoka Hanabi (Niigata, very famous) → August 2 & 3, 2026 🎆 Tenjin Matsuri (Osaka) → around July 25 (to be officially confirmed)

In Kyoto, summer festivals like Gion Matsuri are more common, but there aren’t many large-scale fireworks displays within the city itself.

Heads up: major *hanabi* events are extremely crowded and can be challenging for someone with sensory sensitivities due to the noise, crowds, and heat. It might be better to watch from a slightly more distant spot or book seated tickets. There are also cruises and *yakatabune* (traditional boats) to view the Katsushika fireworks from the river. This is often more comfortable than being in the ground crowds, especially for someone with sensory needs, but you’ll need to book *very* early since they’re super popular! 😊

I’m Japanese and live in Tokyo. I also work with children and young adults with autism or Down syndrome in development support and artistic expression. Right now, I’m actually starting a project to provide support and assistance for foreign travelers in Japan! 😊 Feel free to DM me if you have any questions or need help during your trip.

Safe travels in Japan! ✨
