Hello everyone. We’ve already traveled to Canada in 2018. This time, we’re prioritizing heading to Quebec City right after arriving in Montreal to stay for 3 days, then moving on to Rivière-du-Loup for 2 to 3 days before heading toward New Brunswick. We want to see Acadia, Prince Edward Island, the Bay of Fundy, etc., before returning to Quebec City to drop off the rental car. We were thinking of taking the bus from Montreal Airport to Quebec City and only renting the car 3 days later. Same route on the way back, with one night in Quebec City. We arrive in Montreal around June 25 (11 AM) and return on July 26 (6 PM). Could you give us some advice? Routes, sights, accommodations, and chalet rentals. On our first trip, we went through an agency, but this time we’d prefer to organize everything ourselves. Thank you so much for your tips and suggestions! See you soon, Fabienne

Hey, Since your trip is going to be "focused" on the Maritime Provinces (New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia), have you considered flying into Halifax? There are direct flights from Paris. Obviously, I don’t know where you live in France, but landing in Halifax could be a great option! Unless you *have* to go through Rivière-du-Loup, in which case a direct flight to Québec City might make sense (especially since you already know Québec well from your 2018 trip). As for Québec City, 3 days might feel *a bit long*, especially without a car (for example, visiting Île d'Orléans without one won’t be easy). And Québec City itself—between Old Québec and Montmorency Falls—I’m not sure it’ll *fill* 3 days! But that’s just my two cents 😏 Happy planning!

Hi there, and thanks for this first feedback. We have a direct flight from Basel to Montreal. We plan to take a bus to Quebec City and then take it easy while enjoying a city we love. From there, we’ll rent a car to head toward the Maritimes. We’ve already seen a bit of Gaspésie, so we’re looking for an itinerary that will take us to those regions we’re excited to explore. Don’t hesitate to share any tips, info, etc.

Hello! 😊

For your trip to Quebec City, if you haven’t already, I suggest visiting the Musée de Québec to see the works of Jean Paul Riopelle (and the Automatistes). It’s too bad the new Audain Pavilion won’t open until October, but there’s still plenty to see on Riopelle and others. Don’t miss the works by Armand Vaillancour. 👍

If you haven’t already, be sure to cross the river to Lévis to enjoy the magnificent terrace with a view of Old Quebec. If you're up for it, climb the red stairs to the upper terrace in Lévis. Take the time to explore the small downtown area too.

For the Gaspésie region, I’ll let the more experienced travelers give you advice. However, for a unique experience, I highly recommend a short stay at the Auberge de l’Île aux Lièvres (across from Rivière-du-Loup). You’ll need to book through the Société Duvetnor. If you're interested, don’t wait too long—the island is right in the middle of the St. Lawrence River, and there are no cars. There are plenty of activities and guided experiences. You’ll take a boat to get there, and with luck, you might spot some seals or even a beluga! 😄

Finally, once you’ve shared your plans, I might be able to help a bit more.

Cheers! 👋👋

Hi Fabienne, What a wonderful project... and what a luxury to have a whole month to savor Eastern Canada! 😊 Your idea of taking the bus straight from Montreal to Quebec City is really smart. Honestly, you can easily spend your first few days in Quebec City without a car: Old Quebec, Petit-Champlain, the Plains of Abraham... everything is best discovered on foot, and it’s even more enjoyable that way. Three days in Quebec City, taking your time, is perfect. If you're inspired, I’ve actually shared some ideas for walks and less touristy spots here: 👉 Trip to Quebec With a month, you can really travel at a relaxed pace, alternating visits with more downtime. That’s exactly the kind of travel philosophy I love: fewer kilometers, more depth. Wishing you a wonderful trip!

Hi there,

As a suggestion, there’s also the stunning Île Verte in the Bas-St-Laurent region. It’s the perfect place for peace and quiet! On the north side, you can spot whales and seals. The island is easy to explore on foot or by bike. For accommodation:

Make sure to book your spots on the ferry in advance: https://traverse.ileverte.quebec/

Have a great trip!
