Hi there, we’re spending 2 full days in El Calafate and we’d like to visit Perito Moreno. The prices through agencies are sky-high, so I’m trying to figure out why by looking at the cost of the bus separately, park entry separately, and the boat separately. I’m still way off the total amount. From reading several blogs, it seems like we could do it ourselves by renting a car. What do you think?

After that, we saw that we could also visit other glaciers, but the agency prices for those are even more expensive. However, in this case, I don’t know if we can do it on our own...

Thanks for your help!

Hi there, Unless you want to do a trek on the glacier, you don’t need to go through an agency to see Perito Moreno. A lot of people rent a car for the 75 km and often offer to share it. You can join the "Français en Argentine" group on Facebook to check out the offers. Otherwise, you can take a bus excursion, with BusSur for example. I don’t remember the exact price, and anyway, they’ve gone up a lot, but it should be around 30 € round trip. They pick you up at the hotel, give a few explanations along the way, and let you wander around the walkways at your own pace. I think you get about 3 hours, which gives you enough time to take the little boat tour for another thirty euros or so (but honestly, it’s not worth it—you get a much better view of the glacier from the walkways). The park entrance costs 30 € for the day and 15 € for the next day if you keep your ticket. On the other hand, the full-day cruise to see the other glaciers has gotten really expensive...
