j'ai plusieurs critères.
- pas se retrouver en surpopulation
- bungalow sur pilotis et pas mitoyen si possible (ben ouai hein MDR) ou alors sur la plage en dernier recours mais dans ce cas individuel non discutable. LOL
- pouvoir faire du snorkeling nous-même et donc qu'il y ait de quoi voir pas trop loin du bord
- arrivée en hydravion.
- pas d'enfants sur l'ile (j'ai le mien déjà le reste de l'année :P )
- bon rapport qualité prix, max 10000.- suisse je dirai...
Nous sommes alles sur l ile d embudu ( atol de mahé sud ou nord je sais plus ) !!!
Pourquoi cette île plus qu une autre ?
- Coté sauvage de l ile, un peu robinson crusoé sans signe obstentatoire de luxe prononcé
- le lagoooooooooooooon et surtout son corail garden ( presque l un des seuls ds les maldives ) un lagon assez grand pour faire du PMT car je n avais pas le droit a ce moment la a la plongee sous marine !!! faire le tour du lagon interieur et exterieur m a pris plus d une journée! voir les 8 jours
- les bebes requins citrons et pointes noires qui viennent te dire bonjour tous les matins !!!une faune abondante
- il y a une 50 aine de bungalow sur l ile certains etant mitoyens mais alors ultra bien isolé ( bungalow de 35m2 + 10 m2 douche avec terrasse) il y a ds bungalows sur pilotis aussi mais je trouve qu ils n en valent pas le coup !!! et ce qu il faut savoir c est que cette ile regorge limite de petites plages privées partout ce qui fait qu en gros tu ne croises que tres peu de personnes!!
- No piscine vu que le lagon est une piscine a elle toute seule
POur mon conjoint qui lui fait la plongee sous marine :
- raie manta vu et raies aigles aussi
- plongee dans un channel avec requin pointe noire
- bcp de plongee au choix a dispo !!!
tout depend ce que vous recherchez aux maldives !!
Sachez que les maldives sont de religion mulsumane !! que vous ne pourrez pas apporter de l alcool dans votre sac ca vous sera confisque a l arrivée ! que sur la capitale Mahé strictement interdit de se mettre en bikini ou autre , il faut savoir respecter!!
A part si vous faites une excursion ou de la plongee a la journée et selon vos accompagnateurs ou capitaine du bateau , accoster sur une ile non touristique est rare!! Notre capitaine etait cool on a pu accoster sur une ile de pecheurs l espace d une heure 30 ou l on s est promene !!
Il y a 2 types de touristes aux maldives
- relax, detente, luxe, farniente en gros rien faire surtout lorsqu on est sur une ile de 800m
- masque palme tuba, plongee sous marine, le cul ds l eau et relax
ps: en aucun cas ds mon message il n y a de prejugé ou quoique ce soit de pejoratif !!

bonjour, après avoir fait beaucoup de recherches et avoir beaucoup hésité, j'ai également choisi vilamendhoo où nous partons le 4 mars. Je pense que cette ile est un bon rapport qualité prix (j'ai pris beach villa). On y va en hydravion, il y a des piscines , (même si la mer est un véritable aquarium, c'est aussi un plaisir) et elle semble super pour le snorkeling (c'etait ma priorité première:). J'ai vraiment hate!Je ne sais pas à quelle date vous partez mais si vous voulez des renseignements à mon retour, ce sera avec plaisir 😉

Pour le materiel de snorkeling, se renseigner aupres de l'hotel directement. Pour certains hotels, c'est inclus et donc gratuit pour le sejour... sous reserve de le rendre a la fin bien sur, et dans le meme etat qu'il a ete fourni...
Evitez de le laisser en plein soleil toute la journee, un petit rincage le soir dans la douche, et ne pas tirer sur les sangles comme un fou feront l'affaire 🙂

Comment résumer notre séjour: j'ai pleuré dans l'hydravion d'émotion à l'idée de vivre enfin mon rêve, j'ai gardé un sourire niais pendant une semaine et j'ai pleuré au retour à l'idée de partir......😉
Plus sérieusement, nous avons passé un excellent séjour. La cadre est vraiment magnifique, le staf très gentil.Si je dois dire un seul point négatif, ce serait la literie qui est un peu dure mais vu les séjours intensives que l'on a passées ce nous a pas empécher de dormir. Si je me souviens bien tu as pris une jaccuzi villa. Qu'ils te donnent une au nord ou une au sud, tu auras une vue et une plage superbe. Pour ma part, j'etais à la 163, au nord en face d'une passe. On était très bien. Le snorkeling de ce côté est grandiose. Tu me diras quel côté tu auras préféré car de toute façon il faut vraiment faire le tour. Nous avons fait l'escurison raie mantas tortues. Malheureusement nous n'avons pas vu de raie, l'océan est grand.... mais les tortues oui. Et vu le récif où ils nous emmmenent , c'est garanti d'en voir à chaque fois surement. Nous avons par contre vu un requin baleine lors da sortie dédiée à cela. C'est tout simplement ENORME et SUPERBE; un grand moment. Avec mon mari, nous avons testé un massage au spa. Si tu y vas dans les trois premiers jours de ton arrivée, si tu es en all inclusiv, tu as droit à 15 mn gratuite ou 10% sur un massage. Nous avons opté pour 1h15 de massage, le sence of touch. Que du bonheur dans un cadre idillyque. A faire !(bon, 108 euros par personne....). Nous avons aussi fait la sortie couché de soleil car offerte dans le all incl. Sympa (bon je ne suis pas encore objective car je suis encore dans un rêve;). La restauration est également très bien. Très variée. Beaucoup de poisson très bons. Il y a pleins de plats différents chaque jour. Pense à prendre de la creme solaire ecran total et de la biafine. Je pèle et je me gratte de partout!!!!! En snorkeling, il vaut mieux mettre un teeshirt car c'est vraiment traitre. De même si tu as les cheveux longs, prends du démélent car en étant dans l'eau toute la journée, bonjour la misère avec les noeuds :) Prends aussi des pansements (on a eu des ampoules avec les palmes), une cremes pour les irritations car même s'il faut faire très attention de ne pas toucher le corrail pour ne pas l'abimer , il peut arriver de s'y frotter et ça fait mal. J'avais également pris du smecta et de l'imodium qui ont servi à mon fils car il a du être sensible au changement d'alimentation. Prends des vêtements très légers et agréables à porter. Il fait très chaud même le soir. N'oublie pas des tongs!!!! on est pied nu tout le temps, même à table, mais les chemins à l'interieur de l'ile sont en sable plus épais donc ça peut faire mal. Si tu comptes te baigner sans tes palmes , achete des chaussures en plastiques qui vont dans l'eau. Je pense que ce sera plus agréable car il y a des morceaux de coraux un peu partout. Pour ma part, je ne suis jamais sortie sans mes palmes. Si tu n'as jamais plongé et que tu es à l'aise avec l'eau, fais un bapteme. Les deux moniteurs francophones sont très sympas et c'est une sensation unique d'apesanteur, de liberté.^Le bapteme se passe en partant du bord donc plus rassurant. Pour ma part, je suis plongeuse mais j'ai accompagné mes deux enfants pour qui c'etait pa premiere fois et ils se sont régalés. Tu ne vois pas plus qu'en snorkeling mais c'est génial. Durant notre séjour , nous avons vu en snorkeling sur le recif des tortues, des raies, des murenes, une multitudes de poissons de toute sorte tous aussi meilleux les uns que les autres. Tu es vraiement dans un aquarium géant. Je te conseille d'arrêter de regarder des photos de l'ile car quand tu arriveras tu auras l'impression d'être déja venue (j'ai passé des heures sur mon ordi avant mon voyage :). Je peux te garantir que tu ne seras pas déçue. Si tu as des questions particulières sur des points que j'ai pu oublier, n'hésite pas. Pour info, nous avons payé sur l'ile 1250 euros à 4. donc pour 4 escursions raie, 4 pour les requins baleines, 4 baptemes de plongée (125 dollars mais 1 heure de plongée et un long briefing pour mettre à l'aise), des cocktails et boissons pour mes enfants qui etaient en pension complete, quelques souvenirs dans le magasin ....tu as tous les prix sur leur site. Le temps est très changeant sur place mais même s'il pleut (on a eu quelques orages) c'est grandiose et de toute façon ça ne dure que très peu de temps. Je dois à tout pris partir mais rappellle moi que je te parle des croisieres qu'ils proposent. J'ai pris une photo de leur programme pour toi.A bientot :)
Cest à nouveau moi:) je continue mon speach. Une croisière est proposée par vilamendhoo à bord d'un joli voilier en bois (je l'ai aussi pris en photo si tu veux). Ça dure trois jours en all inclusive durant lesquels tu fais gratuitement l'excursion raie manta, requin baleine, snotkrling sur une île , pique nique sur une autre. J'ai pris en photo le programme exacte si tu veux. Tout est offert car ça leur permet de libérer ta chambre pendant ce temps et de la louer. J'ai voulu la faire mais c'était plein. De mémoire il y a 5 chambres à bord. Selon le nombre de jours que tu pars ça peut changer un peu car vilamendhoo est petite. Sache que sur l'île tu peux payer tout en euro à la fin. Les seuls dollars à prévoir sont pour les pourboires. Ce coup ci je pense que j'ai tout dit. Si tu as la moindre question , n'hésite pas et sinon régale toi bien et écrit moi un petit message à ton retour pour me raconter tes ressentis :)

Concernant les pourboires, il faut compter 1 dollar pour chacun de ceux qui t'amenent les valises , 15 dollars pour celui qui te sert a table, 10 dollars pour celui qui fait ta chambre et pour ma part j'ai donné aussi a un serveur qui était adorable. Je n'ai pas fait l'excursion sur l'île habitée. Je crois que c'est celle qui est juste en ce de vilamendhoo. Si tu la fais, tu peux effectivement prévoir des dollars pour les souvenirs car ceux du magasin présents dans l'île ne sont pas terribles a mon goût. Je viens de voir sur leur site que c'est l'excursion sur l'île de dhangheti au prix de 30 dollars.nous sommes partis tous les 4 avec nos palmes, masque et tuba. Le premier prix de chez décathlon est suffisant. Pense juste a nettoyer ton masque avec du dentifrice le premier jour pour éviter la buée et ensuite chaque jour tu y mets un peu de shampoing et tu le rinces dans la mer juste avant de le mettre. Pendant le snorkeling, si tu en as, crache dedans et rince. Tu verras aussi que le vol en hydravion est magnifique 🙂

Bonjour, si vous souhaitez faire la fête , n'allez pas a villamendhoo. Voyez plutôt vers sun Island qui est plus grande, pour un budget minime ( pour les Maldives.... Donc à relativiser) . Je crois qu'ils proposent beaucoup d'animations . Allez sur le site de tripadvisor qui permet de classer en fonction de vos certes d'intérêts . Sachez par contre, que si vous souhaitez faire beaucoup de snorkeling, il n'est pas possible d'en faire en partant de la plage partout. Il faut parfois prendre un bateau . N'hésitez pas si vous avez d'autres questions .

We’re heading to Sri Lanka for 23 days in January 2027—there are four of us—and we’ll wrap up the trip with 5 days in Mumbai. Our itinerary is coming together, but what do you think? (We can’t change the dates since our flights are already booked.)
We still have one night to slot in, and I’ve tentatively planned it in Tangalle, though it was a bit random. Would it make more sense to place it at a different stop? Or is there an intermediate stop I might be missing?
I’ve got accommodations sorted everywhere except Mumbai—it’s a nightmare (either way too expensive or really dodgy). By default, we’ve spotted the Residency Hotel Fort, but 70 € a night (with a discount) for a hotel that doesn’t offer anything special in India?!
I’m planning a short visit to Pokhara around mid-February 2027 (it’ll be my 4th time in Nepal 😊, over 40 years!). I’d like to book a room in advance rather than looking when I arrive. I’ve checked a bit on Bxxking.com and see lots of options. I’m used to scoping out the surroundings of places listed, just to avoid ending up in areas that are either unappealing or far from everything.
So, I see quite a few offers around the lake (Lakeside?), but every time I check what it looks like, the streets seem really uninviting. It’s kind of like a construction site with buildings everywhere… Nothing like Bhaktapur (for example) or even Thamel, where the streets seem way more pleasant.
Could anyone give me some advice?
Also, I don’t really get the impression that Pokhara is worth a visit of several days. The lake, sure, but once you’ve seen it—what else is there?
I’m interested in the 10-day/8-night "Discover Nepal" tour offered by Capitales Tours, among others.
For Day 4, it lists Kathmandu-Mugling-Pokhara as 200 km and 8/9 hours of travel.
Is this duration due to the road conditions? I assume the stop in Mugling for lunch is included in the travel time.
For Pokhara-Chitwan, only the distance is mentioned: 160 km. Should I expect a long bus ride there as well?
The proposed flights would be with AIR-INDIA via DELHI. We had issues with AIR-INDIA before—they denied us boarding for Paris even though we arrived at the airport more than 3 hours early. There was no specific counter for PARIS; the counters were for all destinations, and we waited in line for over 2.5 hours only to be told "too late"...

We’ve already traveled to India twice before, but only for two-week stretches (2013, a loop from Mumbai including Hampi, and in 2019, Tamil Nadu). This time, we’re leaving at the end of October for nearly three months of travel—something completely new for us! We’ll arrive in Delhi and depart from Bangalore. Our goal is to explore Northern India and then head down to Kerala, taking a maximum of one flight and prioritizing trains.
Traveling for this long should let us plan longer stops to slow down the pace and fully enjoy our trip...
What are the places you’ve loved with this in mind?

we got back from our trip to Kashmir and Ladakh three weeks ago.
We spent 4 weeks there, including one in Kashmir.
We’re really happy with our stay in Srinagar and Sonamarg. The Kashmiris gave us a very warm welcome and seemed pleased to see tourists who weren’t Indian. In fact, over the 4 days we spent in Srinagar, we only saw 4 people who looked European... Srinagar is stunning with its lakes and the lively Mughal gardens. No trouble getting around, whether by shikara, rickshaw, taxi, or on foot. The houseboats are gorgeous, unfortunately controlled by consortiums. We took a taxi to Sonamarg (20 €).
Sonamarg (two nights) and its glacier are easy to explore, either on horseback or on foot, but it’s becoming a leisure spot for Indians.
To get to Ladakh afterward, we opted for a private taxi (quite expensive at 100 €, but the road is long). Since we’re a couple, it allowed us to stop whenever we wanted... and the route is beautiful all the way to Lamayuru, with our first snow-covered pass under snow when we crossed around May 21st. Then we stopped in Mulbek and Kargil before arriving in Lamayuru (three nights). We took another taxi to Alchi (26 €), spent one night there, and took the local bus at around 8 AM to Leh (3 €, a comfortable one-hour ride). We arrived in Leh around 9:30 AM, and Gyatsel from Tsarap Guesthouse came to pick us up with our backpacks. His guesthouse is located 500 meters from the market square in Leh, in a quiet little alley with no traffic. We highly recommend it because Gyatsel is invaluable for arranging taxis and organizing off-agency circuits...
His accommodation is super comfortable, and he cooks with vegetables from his garden. His wife also helps out... It’s Gyatsel’s mother who tends the garden. Through him, we arranged permits for the Nubra Valley up to Turtuk, then the Pangong and Tso Moriri lakes (we didn’t do the latter due to snow overnight!). We also crossed the Changtang (magnificent) to reach Thiksey, Stakna, Hemis, and returned to Leh. Six days in a private taxi (400 €). Since the roads were clear, we headed to Zanskar for 5 days in a shared taxi (28 € round trip for both of us). The route from Leh to Zangla follows the Zanskar gorges (impressive!).
We discovered Padum, Pibiting, Karsha, and Puktal, which you can reach via a small 7 km road and a 45-minute walk to finish, plus the sacred summit on the way to Manali.
Back in Leh, we extended our permit to visit the Aryan Valley by taxi (round trip, two days, 90 €).
We spent our last two days resting in Leh—the altitude is really tiring...
I’m sharing these taxi prices as a guide for a couple.
Accommodation ranged from 12 € in Leh to 30 € at Pangong Lake (the most expensive), but averaged around 15-17 € per night.
We’re not trekkers, but we love walks, discovery, and meeting people along the way. It was an amazing trip, and we even discovered a very old monastery a few kilometers before Lamayuru, where a monk took us—timeless...

I’m heading to Sri Lanka for 3 weeks in July with my two 11-year-old kids, and I’m wondering about how to organize the trip. We’re used to traveling on the go, staying 1 to 2 or 3 nights per place depending on how we feel.
Do you recommend planning the itinerary and booking accommodations in advance to save time once we’re there?
Or is it pretty easy to organize everything as we go without any issues?
Same question for activities: Should we book safaris and tours ahead of time, or can we arrange them easily on the spot? Is there a risk of not getting a spot, for example, to visit a park since we’ll be there in July?
We’ll be using local transport (train, VTC via PickMe, tuk-tuk) to get from one place to another.
In short: Are there any must-book things we should reserve now?

Not only do you save time, but you also know where you’ll be staying each night. Choosing well on Booking (or elsewhere) is actually a pleasure!
For safaris, given the number of jeeps with drivers available, it’s unlikely you’ll be turned away... the real issue is more about the concentration of jeeps around the animals.
I travel like you do—train, bus, tuk-tuk, and sometimes taxi. Ride-hailing apps like PickMe and other VTCs are mostly in big cities.
For the mountain train, due to severe flooding, service was interrupted on the line between Kandy and Ella. Check ahead, because reservations for this train are very complicated, if not impossible.
For the Colombo/Kandy train, you reserve your seats by buying the ticket before boarding. In the south, no need to book in advance for trains.
In Sri Lanka, there’s always a solution for getting around—just ask your hosts. They have trusted contacts at their fingertips. But still, compare prices—😏 smart move!
I stick to booking my nights and keep pre-planned activities to a minimum.
For reservations you can’t skip, it’s the beach stays you’ll want to secure.

It seems there’s a ferry from Nagapattinam to Jaffna in India. Has anyone here taken this ferry before? My main question is how to get to Nagapattinam—by train, bus? And from which town further south, of course.

We’re torn between spending it in the Jaffna region or on the east coast between Batticaloa and Trincomalee.
We’re divers, so the east coast appeals to us for snorkeling, beaches, and lagoons—but it seems like late March might not be the best time for that coast. What do you think?
As for Jaffna, the culture of the region, its more authentic feel since it’s less touristy, and the offshore islands all appeal to us too—but it seems far from the rest of the country and harder to access.
We have to choose because we won’t be able to visit both sides, and I’d love to hear your thoughts.

We just got back from a 2-week trip to Sri Lanka as a couple, and while planning the trip, we found plenty of info on the itinerary, places to see, and transportation, but much fewer clear reports on the actual budget to expect once there. Yet, that was an important point for us because we like to plan ahead a little before traveling.
So, we took the time to break down our complete budget after the trip. In our case, we spent around **930 € per person** for 2 weeks, being careful without depriving ourselves, mixing guesthouses, more comfortable hotels, quite a few activities, and even a private driver for part of the stay.
What we found interesting when crunching the numbers is that in Sri Lanka, it’s not necessarily meals or short trips that blow the budget, but rather flights, certain accommodations, cultural activities, and all those little expenses we sometimes forget, like tips.

We’re a group of 5 heading to the Everest Base Camp trek in early April. We won’t have a porter or guide—we’re used to hiking independently and have already done the Langtang trek and the Annapurna Circuit (back in 2003!).
I’d love to know if it’s necessary to book lodges in advance or if we’ll easily find availability during this busy season. Also, will we find lodges all along the route between the main stopover villages, or only in those villages? I remember there were plenty everywhere on the Annapurna Circuit. We want to stay as flexible as possible.
We’re heading to India in March 2026 and had planned to visit the parts of the Meenakshi Temple that are open to non-Hindus. However, the temple is currently undergoing major renovations—with all the towers covered in scaffolding—which might really take away from the experience and our stop in Madurai.
After some frustrating and vague online searches, and before we reshuffle our itinerary, I’d love to know—if possible—the most accurate expected completion date for the renovation work.

Maybe taking the bus for some stretches?
As for renting a car with a driver, it seems expensive, so I’ve pretty much ruled that out. Unless someone’s got space for the same dates?

QUESTION: People from Nepal are telling us it’s MANDATORY to have guides! Is this true, or is it just agencies trying to get work for their staff?
The Lonely Planet says: "In April 2023, the government announced that every trekker would need to hire the services of a porter or a licensed guide to obtain the TIMS permit. The law isn’t enforced, and by 2025, there were no longer any obligations for teahouse treks."
