hi everyone, we’re itching to see the Namib Desert again, and looking at the Tracks4Africa map I notice there’s a track that reaches Saddle Hill Ghost Town and seems to be allowed. Has anyone done it? We’re used to dunes—on our first visit we went from Walvis Bay to Sandwich Harbour with our rental 4x4 but followed a licensed guide. Thanks for your replies! Brigitte

Hi there,

Sorry to burst your bubble 😉 but while the track does exist, unless there’s been a recent change, it’s only accessible through a licensed company and in a group, like from Walvis Bay. Frustrating, I know, but it’s reassuring given how tough a round trip can be—it takes several days. Let us know how it goes?

Hi there, I did Namibia in a 4x4 back in 2006. francois.leroux.free.fr/namibia I’m heading back soon and would love to spend part of the trip (3 or 4 days) in the Namib-Naukluft Park between Lüderitz and Walvis Bay in the dunes. I know it’s an area that requires a permit to drive through, so it’s probably really hard to get one. Solution: go with a licensed guide for this route. I think that’s what you did. What exact route did you take? Which guide did you use? Thanks for your tips! Francois

thanks for your reply. We hate groups, especially my husband, and we’re dropping the idea of Namibia for this year
