Hi there,

We’re traveling to Java on October 23, just the two of us. I’ve read that it’s best to book train tickets in advance on tiket.com. Is that true, and how far ahead do you recommend? Are the tickets changeable?

Thanks for your help!

Hi there, here are the links for high-speed trains: Whoosh General conditions for Whoosh tickets: Cancellation possible: Yes, but it must be done at least 2 hours before the train's departure. Refund: KCIC applies a 25% penalty on the canceled ticket price. You’ll get back 75% of the amount paid. Cancellation is done directly on the website or via the KCIC mobile app. You need to log in to your account, go to “My Booking,” and follow the steps to cancel. Key points: Unused and uncanceled tickets are non-refundable. In case of delay or cancellation by KCIC, a full refund may be offered. Oh, thanks Nadège for such a detailed answer! I hadn’t seen anything yet about high-speed trains—I’ll go check that out, hoping there’s one between Malang and Yogyakarta. But if there isn’t, like you said, we’ll just enjoy the scenery, and that’s great too! 😎

I’m currently in Indonesia on the island of Java. I had booked my train tickets a month in advance, but in the end, there were still seats available every time—even though I missed one and had to buy new tickets since they’re non-refundable and non-exchangeable. If I had to do it again, I’d just get them on the spot...
