J'ai pour projet de partir 6 mois aux USA pour perfectionner mon anglais et pour visiter. J'aimerais faire 5 mois d'école et 1 mois de visite. Mon départ est prévu en juin 2011 pour un retour au début janvier 2012. Durant mon mois de visite il y a qques endroits que j'aimerais absolument voir comme Las Vegas, le grand canyon, (la liste est longue)....
J'aurais besoin de vos conseils/avis pour qques petits points qui sont encore troubles pour moi.
1. Comme destination d'étude (donc mes 5 premiers mois) j'avais en vue San Francisco. On m'a dit que la ville est très agréable à vivre et très riche. Je sais aussi que le climat y est assez "tempéré". Mais vu que je vis en Suisse j'ai plus ou moins l'habitude d'avoir ce genre de temps, je me demande si je ne devrais pas choisir une destination plus "exotique" comme par ex. Miami, Los Angeles, ou même Hawaii et passer à San Francisco lors de mon dernier mois.... Qu'en pensez-vous?
2. Je n'ai pas encore pris de décision quant au logement que je vais prendre. On me parle de campus, de famille d'accueil ou d'appartement.... J'ai 31ans, et je n'ai pas trop envie de me retrouver dans une chambre de 4 avec 3 ados donc je me dis que la solution d'un appartement serait peut-être la meilleure. Là aussi si qqun pouvait me parler un peu de ses expériences, ca serait sympa pour que je puisse me faire une idée.
3. Faut-il passer par une agence, où faut-il aller sur place et s'inscrire directement? Il y a bcp d'agences qui proposes bcp de choses et c'est un peu confus de s'y retrouver et d'être sûr que c'est qque chose de fiable. Un ami m'a dit qu'en allant sur place, pour la même école, je pouvais économiser près de 30% que si je passais par une agence.
4. Quels sont les papiers à obtenir pour y aller et combien de temps à l'avance faut-il faire les démarches afin de ne pas être coincé?

Si le but est d'apprendre l'anglais en classe, il faut d'abord choisir une école qui vous convienne. Ce ne sont pas les écoles de langues qui manquent dans ce pays alors il faudra bien cerner vos besoins en matière d'apprentissage et aussi en fonction de votre budget car ça représente un "investissement" important, et ensuite faut comparer ce qu'il y a comme offres.
Comme vous semblez avoir envie de voir beaucoup d'endroits et de visiter, une formule du type "cours le matin et après-midi libres" semblent tout indiquée.
Pour la ville...et bien allez là où ça vous intéresse! Hawaii est superbe, mais très éloigné du continent et assez isolé géographiquement; je le garderais plutôt comme endroit pour faire du tourisme uniquement. Si vous recherchez la chaleur, la Floride est un bon choix (personnellement je ne trouve vraiment pas Miami et L.A. très "exotiques" mais étant Canadienne je n'ai sûrement pas les mêmes perceptions qu'un Suisse...). Je ne recommande pas trop Miami qui n'a rien de génial comme endroit, c'est une ville de béton (Miami Beach est mieux mais ça reste un endroit de vacanciers), de plus vous apprendrez davantage l'espagnol que l'anglais...La Californie me semble plus "riche" à découvrir et l'état étant très vaste il y a beaucoup plus à voir à mon avis. Mais ce n'est que mon opinion et d'autres pourraient penser différemment.
Pour l'hébergement, vous semblez avoir déjà cerné bien vos besoins. Sachez que louer un appartement dans une grande ville américaine vous coûtera assez cher, je l'ai fait dans 2 villes (Honolulu et Miami Beach) pour avoir un endroit décent, faut mettre les moyens. S'attendre à une enquête des proprios qui aujourd'hui, ne louent plus aussi facilement qu'auparavant et sélectionnent au peigne fin les candidats locataires.
Il y a sûrement la possibilité de louer une chambre sur le campus, normalement disponible en période estivale. Là encore faut se renseigner aux endroits concernés et s'attendre à se retrouver avec une clientèle plutôt jeune (30 ans et moins). Je sais que dans certains pays il y a couvents religieux où on peut y loger et être nourri pour pas cher, en suivant des règles strictes, mais je n'ai aucune adresse à donner pour les États-Unis, il faut voir sur place à mon avis...
Pour les papiers, dans votre cas il faut demander un visa américain à l'ambassade des États-Unis (vu la durée du séjour qui est supérieure à 90 jours et qui ne permet pas d'être exempté du visa), je n'ai guère d'autres infos à vous donner sur le sujet puisque ma nationalité est canadienne et les formalités différentes dans mon cas.

Je te conseil a fond miami beach j'y suis restée durant six mois et je peux te dire que mes cartons en france sont deja fait pour aller habiter labas, j'ai appris l'anglais en trois mois grâce à mon école et l'ambiance a miami est pire que terrible!Je suis allée a hawaii ainsi qu'à londres ou j'ai frequenté des écoles de langues southbeachlanguages est terriblement pas cher avec une qualité de cours que tu ne peux même pas imaginer;Le directeur m'a aussi offert les cours d'espagnol en prenant des cours anglais intensifs durant six mois. Je reparts dans cette ecole pour perfectionner et décrocher un diplôme car les professeurs sont merveilleux!Miami is crazy i love it! My name is Deborah, I’m French. I’m married and have two children. I’m a clinical psychologist specializing in psychotraumatology, and I’m also pursuing medical studies.
For some time now, I’ve been seriously considering moving to the United States. My long-term goal is to practice medicine in the U.S., with a particular interest in forensic pathology.
