Bonjour,
alors, c'est mon premier post sur ce forum et je voudrais m'excuser si je le poste au mauvais endroit.
Je me présente (tout le monde le fait alors je vais le faire aussi pourquoi pas), je m'appelle Manon et j'ai 15 ans (on s'en fiche un peu mais bon).
La raison pour laquelle je créer ce sujet sur ce forum c'est parce que (bon, c'est indiqué dans le titre), je me prépare à faire un séjour linguistique aux Etats-Unis pour cet été (juillet 2015) et j'aimerais un peu d'informations, de témoignages (ça ce serait le top du top) et tout le tralala.
Alors, ça fait plusieurs années que je voudrais partir étudier aux Etats-Unis (tant qu'à faire je vais vous expliquer un peu le truc), et je me suis mise à faire des recherches pendant des mois pour étudier une année scolaire là-bas, j'en ai parlé à mes parents, qui en ont parlé à la conseillère d'orientation de mon lycée (qui est complètement inutile) et elle m'a dit que c'était plutôt déconseillé de partir pendant mes études au lycée car le retour serait... super compliqué et j'aurai une année de retard. Et elle a carrément raison, alors j'ai réfléchis et je me suis dit que je pourrai partir étudier là-bas quand j'aurai passé le bac, comme elle l'a dit.
ENSUITE, elle a dit que pour me donner une idée de ces études, je pourrais faire un petit séjour linguistique pendant les vacances (elle a été réticente sur ça parce que "tu es déjà très forte en anglais donc j'en vois pas l'utilité") ... oui bon, si je souhaite découvrir un autre pays et une nouvelle culture... je le fais! (mes parents sont d'accord bien sûr) et c'est là que vous entrez dans le vif du sujet! (bah oui sinon ce serait pas drôle).
Alors, si je demande votre aide c'est parce que j'hésite sur pas mal de choses, j'ai trouvé des tas d'organismes mais il y en a 3 (peut-être même 4, mais il faut que j'approfondisse mes recherches sur celui-là) qui m'intéressent le plus et qui ont l'air les mieux entre tous ceux que j'ai pu voir:
- ESL
- Nacel
- EF
Le quatrième étant AILS, mais comme je l'ai dit, je préfère approfondir un peu les recherches avant de l'ajouter à la "liste".
Si je poste ce sujet, c'est que j'aimerais avoir des infos sur ces organismes et lequel est le plus intéressant car: soit c'est bien mais c'est cher (genre ESL), sois c'est bien, c'est cher, mais c'est en demi-pension donc conclusion: pas top, sois c'est pas trop cher mais y a aucune excursions donc... bof (je sais, c'est pas trop bien de se plaindre mais un séjour linguistique c'est supposé apprendre une langue et découvrir le pays choisi, s'il n'y pas d'excursions pour le découvrir... je vois pas trop l'intérêt de payer si cher juste pour rester dans un campus).
Ensuite, j'hésite entre faire un "road trip" (ou "Glob'explorer" comme l'appelle Nacel), et un séjour linguistique normal en campus (je préférerais être en résidence qu'en famille d’accueil).
J'aimerais savoir ce que vous feriez à ma place par rapport au rapport (ça fait beaucoup de rapport d'un coup) qualité/prix et si vous êtes déjà parti pour m'éclairer un peu (beaucoup).
Road trip ou séjour en campus? Quel organisme choisir? Lequel est le plus fiable et plus "honnête" par rapport au prix et aux qualités des services?
Si vous avez déjà fait un séjour linguistique aux Etats-Unis, je serais vraiment ravie de pouvoir avoir des informations et comment vous vous y êtes pris.

Je te recommande de ne PAS prendre le voyage de type 'Glob'Explorer". Tu n'apprends aucun anglais et tu ne rencontres pas d'Américains, c'est essentiellement du voyage touristique à bas coûts (vous êtes logés "simplement"...) comme n'importe quel FRAM ou autre.
Tu as donc deux choix: l'immersion en famille ou la résidence sur un campus.
Pour la résidence en campus, vérifie 1° qu'il s'agit d'une UNIVERSITE (ou "college"), et pas seulement une école de langues et 2° qu'il y a toutes les nationalités et pas seulement des Français.
Je trouve les avis de ta conseillère un peu bornés: être "bon en anglais" au lycée est très loin de "bilingue".... et bien évidemment, parler la langue en tant qu'impatriée n'a rien à voir avec parler une langue parce qu'on la comprend de l'intérieur, avec ses nuances, ses références culturelles, etc.
Pour les études post-bac, tu dois t'en préoccuper dès la fin de la seconde, au pire pendant l'année de 1e, puisque les dossiers sont à remettre entre le 1er octobre et le 1er janvier de la terminale, et qu'à ce moment-là tu dois avoir passé des tests et fait toutes sortes de choses (et les tests de préparent longtemps, puis doivent être repassés pour améliorer son score - on peut les repasser jusqu'à 4 fois mais 2 est le minimum.)

Très bien, mais ce sont aussi des vacances, donc je me dis "Pourquoi pas?", aller aux Etats-Unis est comme un rêve d'enfance et je me dis que visiter l'Ouest ou l'Est américain serait très enrichissant et une superbe aventure. De plus, je trouve que voyager en van avec d'autres personnes pourrait être très amusant, après, c'est sur qu'ils ne parleront peut-être pas anglais, et c'est dommage, mais si je pars ensuite après avoir passé mon bac, je me dis que c'est "pas si grave" vu que j'irai (peut-être) plus tard.
J'ai vérifié ça, tous les organismes cités sont en université américaine et très peu de français sont présents, il y a également des rencontres prévus avec les étudiants américains.
Je suis complètement d'accord avec vous! Parler anglais au lycée et dans un pays anglophone n'est pas la même chose du tout...

Tu sais, être ballotée dans un van 5 ou 6 heures par jour, se lever tôt et être assise dans un siège pas toujours confortable, la promiscuité liée au fait d'être entassés dans un espace réduit... on s'en lasse très vite. Au bout de combien de temps en as-tu marres d'être dans la voiture avec tes parents/frères/soeurs et tu te dis "vivement qu'on arrive" ou tu espères que ta batterie de téléphone/mp3 ne va pas lâcher? (oui là ce sera sans téléphone :p en plus)
Si tu es sérieuse dans ton projet, mieux vaut un séjour en immersion assez long (4 semaines ou plus). Durant ce temps, tu auras sûrement la possibilité de visiter différents endroits intéressants, mais faire du tourisme est facile à n'importe quel âge, vivre dans une famille d'accueil n'est possible que lorsqu'on est adolescent, et bien sûr si ton but réel est l'admission en université américaine, passer quelques semaines sur un campus est la meilleure façon de savoir si cela te conviendrait ou pas.

My name is Deborah, I’m French. I’m married and have two children. I’m a clinical psychologist specializing in psychotraumatology, and I’m also pursuing medical studies.
For some time now, I’ve been seriously considering moving to the United States. My long-term goal is to practice medicine in the U.S., with a particular interest in forensic pathology. Our departure time is getting closer (we have less than 2 years left—it’s both a long time and so short!). To start preparing seriously, we’ll need quite a bit of info. If anyone knows the rates charged by movers for a crate to French Polynesia, or what pitfalls to avoid (I know you can get quotes directly from movers, but I’d love insights from actual customers😉).
