South Korea or Taiwan?

Hi everyone!

I’m especially asking those of you who’ve been to South Korea and Taiwan. Which would you pick for a three-week trip in September or October? I need to consider budget, variety of places, and the weather.

Thanks! 🙂

Most likely South Korea. Taiwan is primarily industrial zones and a bustling vibe that isn’t very touristy. Great for shopping, but limited for much else. In Korea, the nature is stunning, and the ancient culture is much more present. The diversity can’t really be compared to Taiwan’s. Hi there!!! Have you ever been to Taiwan?? If so, we really didn’t see the same things... I traveled around the island for 6 months—how about you?

To answer our friend: both countries are different and really beautiful. I’d start with one or the other and visit the other one another time. I know it’s kind of a lame answer, but that’s really what I think. Neither will disappoint you, that’s for sure.

Happy travels.

Hello! I spent a year in Taiwan and can assure you that in terms of diversity, there’s something for everyone: mountains, beaches, national parks, developed cities... The small islands off Taiwan (Orchid Island, Green Island, Penghu Islands...) are also worth visiting. In September-October, you’ll usually avoid the rain, and the temperature is pleasant.

As for South Korea, I only spent 6 days there and stayed in Seoul, so I can’t say much about the nature... and I’ll admit I didn’t really connect with it. But with 3 weeks, you’ll have time to explore the country more. The temperature was nice too.

Budget-wise, Taiwan is cheaper than Korea.

My opinion isn’t very objective, but no matter which destination you choose, you won’t be disappointed—I think both are worth it! ;)

😎 Hi there! I’ve been to South Korea twice—my last trip was from September 15 to October 10, 2008. There’s so much to see, especially in Seoul—tons of temples, and don’t forget the famous Korean saunas. They’re an unforgettable way to relax!

Getting around is easy with the metro (get a card—it’s simpler, and the price depends on the route). For accommodation, I recommend StayKorea. It’s straightforward, affordable, and usually well-located (check their website). I stayed at their Mapo-gu location—the owner speaks French, is super friendly, and gives great tips.

For the round-trip flight, I went with Finnair. Excellent value for money—via Helsinki with just a 1-hour layover. It’s manageable, and the prices are *very* competitive. Oh, and don’t forget: Seoul’s Incheon Airport is ranked the best in the world! The service is welcoming and fast—your luggage is waiting for *you*, not the other way around. That’s why I’d choose it again!

Have a great trip! Normand 27

I think we shouldn’t overstate Taiwan’s appeal... But in the end, it all depends on what you’ve already seen.

Maybe it just comes down to personal taste...

This summer I visited South Korea and Taiwan, so I think my opinion isn’t negligible. WHAT I SAW:

I found that prices in Taiwan were a bit lower than in Korea, though they’re still low overall (for food and accommodation). In Korea, I noticed some really big cities that are great for shopping, but also "super nature" and "super peaceful" spots.

But I noticed the same in Taiwan. This summer, it was much hotter in Taiwan than in Korea—it was really unbearable for us Europeans.

Budget-wise, I’d recommend Taiwan; vibe-wise, I’d recommend Korea. 😉
Oh et bien ... je sais pas

Hello It’s weird—I don’t see Taiwan the same way at all. To me, it’s way more authentic, full of hikes and walks, street food everywhere, like a real big foreign adventure. Korea feels more industrial, with lots of high-rises and not much charm.

Hello,

That’s odd. I don’t see Taiwan the same way at all—much more authentic, full of hikes and treks, street food everywhere, like a real change of scenery abroad.

Opinions are always very personal.

As you mentioned, there are plenty of hikes and street food in South Korea too. I’ll judge the "authentic" side after my first trip to Taiwan in November.

South Korea would be more industrial, built-up, and lacking in charm

After three trips to South Korea and a fourth in September (probably a fifth in 2026), I don’t feel that way at all. But it’s all very subjective.
