Salut tout le monde,
Deuxieme jour a BKK, il fait beau et chaud, humide avec quelques averses mais pas trop.
Sukhumvit ou en tout cas le quartier ou je suis m'a surprise, beaucoup d'arabes... beaucoup de restos, cafes et magasins arabes et beaucoup d'enseignes ecrites dans cette langue.
Ce jour, journee ecourtee par un gros dodo toute la matinee (massage a l'huile hier qui m'a fait un bien fou mais auss fait dormir comme un bebe)
Pour les non-inities, n'hesitez pas, quand vous allez vous faire masser de demander "soft" sinon la masseuse y met tellement de coeur que c'est parfois douloureux 🤪
Le skytrain est tres facile a utiliser et dix fois plus rapide qu'un taxi, il suffit de prendre une carte gratuite et de regarder sa destination, tres bon marche aussi.
La barge pour traverser le fleuve coute 3 baths, je l'ai prise a l'heure de pointe, c'est chouette... je me suis retrouvee dans un quartier d'habitations ou il n'y a que de petits shops pour les thais et des gargottes ou on mange pour trois fois rien - un plat de rix au poulet et une eau : 40 baths
Un mot important que j'ai appris cet apres midi : tchu tchu... 😏😏 Eh non, ce n'est pas le train, mais un accessoire tres pratique qu'on ne trouve pas partout : du PQ 😉😉😉 tres important pour nous les filles !!! Je raconterai sur mon blog les circonstances de ce nouvel apprentissage... j'en rate pas une vous le savez bien.

Sur les massages les thai sont assez énergiques c'est vrai, c'est surpenant, mais cela fais un bien fou, quand on est fatiguée !!!😄

Non non, des arabes de toutes les regions, installes a BKK et tous tres differents, des traditionnels, des femmes voilees et d'autres tout en noir, des hommes enturbannes, on a l'impression de traverser tout le Moyen-Orient en quelques sois.
Merci a toi, en fait de vent, aujourd'hui on a eu droit a de la flotte toute la journee ou presque. Pas de grosses averses, mais de la "pluie qui mouille".
Dommage, je repars jeudi vers Hanoi, il pleut, il pleut bergere et on n'a pas rentre les moutons... Ils sont tous dehors avec leurs echoppes, certains les pieds dans l'eau, mais mai pen rai... buziness is buziness 😏

Pour ceux qui sont au courant, nous sommes alles manger un bout tout a l'heure, mais il n'avait pas mis sa robe 🙁🙁 Et il ne m'a pas convaincue de monter sur un moto-taxi, ils sont fous ces Bangkokais 😛😛
Les tuk-tuk sont toujours aussi presses de vous emmener dans les magasins pour recevoir leurs coupons de gazoline gratis. Si vous voulez faire plaisir et qu'ils obtiennent leur paiement, il faut passer un petit quart d'heure a bavarder avec le boss du shop... Une fois, ca va, je veux bien etre gentille, mais deux fois "bonjour les degats" 😏😏 Enfin, j'aurai fait ma B.A. du jour.
Et bien non, je suis bien a BKK, sur Sukhumvit. Tout a l'heure RRR m'a dit qu'il etait lui aussi etonne de voir le nombre de shops de ce type avoir fleuri dans ce quartier.
Par contre, pas de problemes comme ceux que nous connaissons d'apres ce que j'ai pu voir. Hier soir, j'ai discute avec un ingenieur Kuweitien tres sympa, on fait le tour du monde ici 😎
PS : Je me perds rarement, et si ca arrive, je ME retrouve toujours 😏😏😏

je vois que tu as des journées bien remplies, je te souhaite un ultra bon séjour et continues a manger que Thai hi hi, il ne faut pas en vouloir à Fortini, ce doit être l'age qui lui fait perdre la mémoire (m'en veut pas Fortini, c'est une boutade, Pat a quand même souligné cet oubli 😎 impardonable 😎)

Salut a tous en direct du MBK... 7eme etage, jeux videos, on se croirait en plein milieu d'un champ de bataille tellement il y a du bruit 😄😄😄😄
Desolee mais je n'ai pas le temps de repondre individuellement donc, message general.
Hier, malgre la pluie tenace, visite du Grand Palais, du Buddha d'emeraude et du Wat Po... Tres beaux tous les trois, mon coeur va bien evidemment au Wat Po dans lequel on peut trouver une ecole "primaire" (je ne sais pas comment on appelle ca ici) et, les classes etant ouvertes, j'ai pu constater que toutes les classes du monde sont pareilles, plus ou moins riches, tout depend des endroits et que tous les enfants sont beaux et aiment jouer au ballon.
Au Wat Po donc, les classes sont grand'ouvertes et reparties pres d'un mur d'enceinte, la photo des souverains jeunes ou avec un de leurs enfants trone sur la porte ainsi que la photo de la maitresse. Les panneaux memoires sont, comme en Belgique, defraichis et faits main (par l'enseignant probablement), ils decorent le pourtour de la classe, il y a des casiers pour les cahiers et la boite a nourriture ... enfin, l'ancienne instit que je suis a pris son pied en "visitant" cela.
J'ai trouve tres triste la difference entre la somptuosite du grand palais et du palais d'emeraude et la pauvrete du Wat Po, beaucoup de murs ont leur peinture ecaillee, les decorations sont abimees et de nombreux tas de planches abimees jonchent divers endroits (heureusement, beaucoup de choses sont en refection, esperons que les moines trouveront l'argent necessaire pour continuer a entretenir cet endroit magique). Comme le temps etait mauvais, j'ai pu me balader en toute quietude et admirer les points de meditation dans le "jardin", il suffit de s'y asseoir quelques instants pour se sentir bien et en paix, tout le reste s'eloigne, c'est fantastique.
Le massage est dur dur, aujourd'hui, j'ai des bleus a plusieurs endroits des jambes... par contre, question repos apres... genial, j'ai failli louper mon rendez-vous avec RRR car je m'etais endormie 😕 Ben oui, j'avais ferme les yeux juste 5 minutes, quoi !!! 😉😉😉
Comme cet apres midi j'ai fait une excursion sur le fleuve, j'ai pu voir le buddha assis et donc, hier le buddha debout et le buddha couche, cela fait les trois... Selon la tradition et superstition thaie, voir les trois buddhas est signe de chance... il serait temps !!! Si ca marche, je vous tiendrai au courant 😉
En principe, demain je pars pour Hanoi (si je trouve un vol), sinon, une petite escapade dans les environs de Chonburi en attendant une place dans l'avion... il faut VRAIMENT que j'aille voir 😏😏😏😏 je deviens encore plus paresseuse ici et c'est pas peu dire 😐😐😐😐
Pour demain, il ne te reste qu'un seul vol c'est à 19 H et on arrive à Hanoi à 20 H 50, en plus c'est le moins cher de la journée. Dans ce cas, il faut prendre un taxi pour te rendre dans le centre de Hanoi. Souviens-toi qu'il faut négocier le taxi pour 10 dollars, pour le vieux quartier, à l'adresse du Prince Hotel par exemple et tu trouveras un hotel à ta convenance dans ces rues. Ne pas accepter de monter dans les taxis où l'on te rassure qu'il y a un taximètre, le trajet risque d'être rallongé à ton insu.

Et voila le resultat ! J'en connais un qui va encore avoir bon et j'aurai droit a "je te l'avais dit", mais mai pen rai et sorry pour ceux et celles qui attendaient des news de Hanoi, il faudra patienter encore un peu !

les préparatifs, les jours qui passent lentement, le stress accumulés + X heures de voyage ; arrivée : perte des repères habituels
on pensait que c'était bien ! c'est super, puis on se met à penser que c'est moins bien : chute de moral
la chaleur et surtout l'humidité demande à nos corps non habitués un travail considérable ! et naturellement nos muscles et nos neurones sont un peu, beaucoup désorientés ! et en panne !!!
il faut qu'ils intègrent la nouvelle donne ! trouver le bon fonctionnement pour continuer la route !! : résultat on s'affole, on regrette, on ne sait plus etc 😉

tu as eu une journée très très remplie hier, poses-toi un jour de plus à BKK, promène -toi sur le fleuve, arrête toi là ou ça te semble sympa, assieds toi ds un petit troquet fréquenté par les thaï à l'embarcedère et regarde les gens comment ils vivent entre l'eau, le bateau et la ville
rien qu'une petite heure et cela nous réconcilie avec le lieu 😉
réfléchis, tranquillement, posément à ce que tu désires vraiment-pquoi ai-je choisi le Vietnam etc ... tu fais une liste de tous les points positifs
le voyage tu le fais pour toi, uniquement et non pas pour faire plaisir aux copains qui attendent des nouvelles
Moi, malgré ces contretemps, je maintiendrai la barre Nord-Est !!
Je maintiens la barre nord-est, simplement, je la recule un peu. J'ai mon visa pour le Vietnam, donc j'irai, simplement a force de tenter 56.000 fois de booker mon vol, avec un refus de AirAsia vis a vis de ma carte Visa, j'en ai eu mon compte.
Le temps que je telephone et que j'aie l'accord de Citibank, je reviens sur le site pour voir qu'il n'y a plus de place ou alors plus cher, donc, comme j'avais prevu de passer qq jours sur une plage, je vais commencer par la et voir apres, a tete reposee... C'est vrai que j'ai eu une journee chargee hier, en plus de la pluie et de piqures de bestioles qui se sont infectees et donc, je me suis un peu inquietee... D'autres contretemps viennent de s'ajouter (from Belgique) et voila, changement de programme... ce n'est pas grave en soi.
Aujourd'hui, je suis allee faire une excursion en bateau sur le Chao Praya et les khlongs, ca m'a fait du bien et j'ai vu ce que je voulais voir, j'ai hate de quitter pour aller vers une autre destination plus calme, je trouve au final qu'il y a trop de bruit ici et j'ai envie de calme.
Je garderai de toute facon un excellent souvenir de BKK, les qq desagrements qui me sont arrives ne sont dus qu'a moi et a ma facon de vivre : rien a f... de demain et mai pen rai... c'est une philosophie qui est bien en soi, mais qui apporte son lot de surprises 😕🤪😉
Pour ceux qui ne sont pas encore venus visiter BKK, je conseillerai cette balade sur le fleuve, j'ai beaucoup aime et hormis le bruit du moteur, c'est un moment paisible en dehors de l'animation de la ville. Deux heures, avec une degustation de tous les fruits exotiques delicieux et, pour les amateurs, ils offrent egalement le whisky thai. Toutes les boissons sont a volonte et gracieusement offertes ainsi que les fruits. Nous n'etions pas beaucoup : je dirais une petite trentaine donc, cool et sympa. Les guides aussi, gentilles, aimables et souriantes. 650 baths booke a l'hotel et prise en charge et retour a l'hotel. Je les ai laisses a Sapham Taksin pour aller au MBK, pas de probleme, ils le proposent d'ailleurs.
Ce soir, cool, cool, je vais en profiter pour ecrire la suite de mon carnet de voyage... de simple recit, il va se transformer en roman d'aventures 😄😄😄

C'est vrai d'habitude la saison des pluies ne commence qu'en juin en Thailande, elle a un mois d'avance on dirait bien !
D'où avec les pluies, les moustiques c'est connu !

Mais c'est vrai que presque partout en thailanl pleut beaucoup, alors attention aux moustiques, achète un bon anti mosquitos ! Et couvre toi bien en te protégeant du soleil si il apparait, car en thailande les coups de soleil arrivent encore plus vite !

Je viens de contacter un copain belge qui vit du cote de Chonburi, il me dirige sur Jomtien - oui, je sais, c'est pas l'Asie profonde 😏😏 mais pour qq jours de cul-cul plage-repos, c'est bon. Je prends le bus demain et si le soleil veut bien se montrer, je me pose qq jours avant de repartir.
Tu as raison, Jomtien c'est pas loin de P......a, mais c'est quand même MIEUX !

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
