Cela fait des mois maintenant que j'écume le forum et les sujets relatifs à des voyages dans l'ouest américains.
Nous sommes 3 jeunes femmes à se lancer dans l'aventure pour trois semaines en septembre 2012 !!
J'ai découvert le sujet de Bastinj avec les propositions pour un voyage de cette durée.
Mais nous avons deux impératifs : le premier est d'atterrir à SFO car nous devons retrouver un ami d'une d'entre nous pour le premier w-e, le deuxième est bien d'aller à LA car un super ami à moi vit à Santa Monica et je ne l'ai pas vu depuis 2 ans !!
Comme la côte ne nous intéresse franchement pas mais que Yosemite et Death Valley et Vegas et Zion et Bryce et (enfin vous avez compris)... Nous voilà contraint de faire cette fichue route Grand Canyon LA...
Je me demandais si vous aviez des suggestions d'itinéraires sur cette distance ? Y a-t-il quelque chose à voir tout de même ? NOus pensions faire un tit stop à Selingman (mais ca reste au début)... bref je prends toute les suggestions mais si vous conseillez de tracer.... nous tracerons tout droit !! (ou presque)
Aussi je vous mets notre voyage ... il a fallut composer avec les désirs de chacune mais nous sommes globalement bien tristes de faire l'impasse sur Monument Valley... Peut-être que la dernière partie du voyage peut être encore améliorée !! VOyez donc ci-dessous
J1 : Vol pour SF, arrivée en soirée
J2 : SF
J3 : SF

J5 : SF, en fin d'aprem récupération de la voiture et direction Yosemite Nous nous rapprochons seulement ce soir là et dormons à Merced
J6 : Yosemite par le " Sud" (entrée vers Mariposa Grove). Nuit à Yosemite Village
J7 : Yosemite (tite ballade, rando, nature, ...) et nuit à Yosemite village
J8 : départ tôt pour prendre la Tioga Road et filer vers Death Valley, on espère pour le coucher de soleil. Nuit à Death Valley.
(question ici : avons-nous le temps ? devrions nous faire un détour par Bodie ? )
J9 : Lever de soleil à Death Valley puis route jusqu'à Vegas. Aprem et nuit à Vegas. La on a pris l'hotel Mirage pour profiter un peu.
J10 : Vegas + Nuit à VEgas
J11 : Vegas. Vers 15h départ pour Valley of Fire, pour y voir le coucher de soleil et se ballader (on a prévu 4h sur place), puis on taille la route vers Zion (pour le moment on a booké un hotel à Hurricane)
J12 : Zion Park, le soir départ vers Bryce, (pour le moment on a booké un hotel à Panguitch)
J13 : Bryce, nuit dans le même hotel
J14 : Départ tôt pour Page (nous souhaitons faire Antelope Canyon à 11h), puis HorseSHoe Bend et direction le Grand Canyon - points de vue en arrivant par l'est
(au départ nous avions prévu de dormir à Page ce soir là mais ensuite on s'est aperçu qu'on passait peu de temps à Grand Canyon...). Nuit à Tuyasan
J15 : Grand Canyon
J16 : Matinée Grand Canyon ? - Départ pour LA (arrêt à Selingman + Route 66). Nuit à LA
J17 : LA
J18 : LA (Universal Studio)
J19 : San Diego pour la journée
J20 : LA
J21: matinée LA et retour France aprem.
Si ca ne tenait qu'à moi je passerai quand même moins de temps à LA et je zapperai San Diego (même si on me dit qu'il y fait super bon vivre je me dis qu'en une journée on le verra pas forcément...). Mais une de nous y tient et ma foi quand on part entre potes il en faut pour tous les goûts. Par contre je me dis que si j'essaie de la convaincre que c'est San Diego ou Munument Valley j'ai tetre une chance... en gros ca donnerait ça :
J14 : après Antelope/HorseSHoe Bend et éventuellement picnic à Lake Powell, on trace vers Monument Valley où on dort (tetre le tps d'en voir un bout le soir ??)
J15 : Monument Valley puis direction Grand Canyon avec les points de vue par l'est
J16 : Grand Canyon
J17 : matinée Grand Canyon ( à voir ?) et départ vers LA après manger.
J18 : LA
J19 : LA (Universal Studio)
J20 : LA
J21: matinée LA et retour France aprem.
Faisable selon vous ? Je ne sais pas du tout combien de temps prend la visite de Monument Valley ....
J'ai aussi quelques questions parce que j'ai découvert Valley Of fire via ce site et que comme on fait l'impasse sur Moab et les parcs environnants je me suis dit que ca serait un "joli lot de consolation" pour en citer certains ici.
Par contre, beaucoup insistait sur le fait d'y aller en fin de journée... d'où le positionnement dans le programme.
Maintenant on pourrait sans doute gagner un jour et dormir à Page avant la visite de Antelope si on le visitait le matin du J11... (est-ce vraiment mauvaise idée ?)
Ou potentiellement, je ne pense pas qu'on s'attarde à Death Valley très tard (on sera lever pour le lever de soleil de toute façon, bon ok on ira surement se recoucher). Donc on devrait être à Vegas à 14h le J9... serait-ce mieux de faire l'AR en fin de journée ? (bon on sera surement crevées vu le réveil matinal...). Ce qui permettrait de quitter Vegas en J11 vers midi et de faire une partie de Zion l'aprem et de dormir à Page J13 au soir. J'avoue je ne sais pas trop...
Autre question pour Antelope Canyon. Lower ou Upper ??? On sera en pleine saison donc pas moyen de réserver le guide à Page. A quelle heure faut-il être sur place pour y etre à la bonne heure pour la lumière ??

Je pense comme toi que Monument Valley est plus intéressante que San Diego, (dans le temps imparti bien sûr ! 😉)
et en regardant la carte, on voit bien que ça économise pas mal de km,
c'est donc du temps gagné !
Et si jamais cette ruse de sioux ne fonctionnait pas,
je pense que tu peux facilement gagner une journée pour MV sur Grand Canyon :
en effet, en calculant bien, vous pourriez en profiter à GC pour :un beau coucher de soleil , une nuit sur place, un beau lever de soleil, et hop ! c'est plié ! (Pas besoin d'y passer toute une journée sur place...)
Quelle type de voiture comptez-vous louer ?
si c'est un SUV, n'oubliez pas la Cottonwood Canyon road, entre Bryce et Page,
c'est fun, plus court (en distance), et très beau !

Nous sommes parti 3 semaines avec les mêmes envies que toi.
Notre obligation était de revenir à SF pour l'avion alors nous avon fait une soirée de route pur entre LA. et SF le dernier jour mais le reste est logique.
Les derniers jours de notre itinereraire en "8" passé par LA.

Oui, là, si tu nous prends par les sentiments... En trois semaines, pour moi aussi, Moab est incontournable.
Mais Julie le dis bien dans son intro : il faut contenter tout le monde. Or elle, on sent bien qu'elle a plus envie d'ocre que de bitume 😏 en zappant San Diego, raccourcissant L.A..
Et je crains qu'elle se heurte tout simplement à la méconnaissance des autres 'nanas' 😉 pour lesquelles San Diego doit parler davantage que Moab ou Monument Valley. 😕
Pour avoir parlé de ce post ce matin à miss kathy, elle m'a répondu que si c'est elle qui avait préparé notre voyage, elle serait partie sur les mêmes erreurs car Moab, Arches Park, Bryce... ça ne lui parlait pas du tout. Elle m'a fait confiance et au final, elle ne l'a jamais regretté.
Donc, on peut comprendre les difficultés que rencontre Julie.
A toi Julie de les convaincre d'orienter davantage votre voyage vers les Parcs. 😉

Sur Valley of Fire je pense qu'on ira en fin de journée vraiment. Soit en AR depuis Vegas le jour où on y arrive. Soit en partant pour Zion.
Si tu veux "vendre" ton itinéraire prépare en un et fais une présentation en photos de Bryce et Cie. Si avec ca elles n'accroche pas inutile d'insister mais ça m'étonnerait beaucoup.
Antellope Canon se fait en une demie journée (en comptant l'attente du départ).
Sinon oui on a fit cet itinéraire en 3 semaines. On a eu le temps de passer 3 jours à SF, 2 à LA, 3 à LV, 2 à Bryce...
Par contre il à fallu optimiser un maximum les hôtels avec le trajet. C'est très compliqué mais au final ça permet de gagner quelques jours.

je te conseil de faire ta partie Est dans l'autre sens afin de finir par Bryce et non l'inverse. Le reste n'aura pas le même gout sinon après Bryce.
Pour Bodie je pense que c'est faisable en fonction de jusqu'où tu comptes aller dormir après Yosemite. Si tu as trop d'heures de route ça ne sera possible. Ou alors tu dors plus proche et tu passes par Bodie et le lendemain c'est là que tu fais plus de route.
Nous on avait dormi a Mammoth Lakes ce qui n'est pas loin de Yosemite et laisse le temps de faire Bodie et le lendemain tu n'est qu'à 350 km de Death Valley.

en effet si elle tiens à rester sur cette idée de départ c'est le plus logique. Mais je voulais lui suggérer un autre point de vue. En ayant était dans le même cas je sais que des fois on pense à faire son trajet d'une certaine manière, et ça peut être intéressant d'avoir une approche différente.
En tout cas j'ai était heureux d'avoir les forums et internet et Google Maps quand j'ai du tout planifier.
D'ici votre départ en septembre, met un week-end ta cop' dans un train pour Antibes avec un arrêt à Salon. Et entre le Marineland et La Barben, elle verra les mêmes choses. 😏
Alors que la piste de Monument Valley, la balade le long du Grand Canyon et que dire de la région de Moab, ça, elle aura du mal à le voir ailleurs... 😛😉
(et on se cogne la route GC-LA) ca réduit un peu...
Pas de panique, cette route n'a vraiment rien de difficile et se fait somme toute assez rapidement.
Je n'ai plus le souvenir de notre timing précis, mais en partant du Grand Canyon vers 8 heures du matin, nous avons fait un peu de route 66 (Seligman, Kingman et surtout Oatman, un ancien village minier très sympa avec des mules qui se baladent en liberté dans la rue, où nous avons déjeuné), un arrêt shopping à Barstow vers 16h, et nous étions à Pasadena (Los Angeles donc) pour l'heure du dîner, au coucher du soleil.
Je rejoins les autres : perso, ça me dépasse toujours d'aller si loin pour voir un zoo et un aquarium. 🤪
San Diego est sympa, mais par rapport à Monument Valley (et Moab 😏), il n'y a pas photo !

Justement pour Valley Of Fire je posais la question parce que j'ai lu un peu partout ici que le soir c'était VRAIMENT mieux.
Et puis aussi je connais les filles (et moi aussi). On appréciera la matinée détente ce jour là aussi...
Mais ca va on a retravaillé le truc. On passe un peu moins de temps à GC : un fin d'aprem pour les points de vues par l'est et puis le lendemain jusqu'à 17h. Ca me semble pas mal non ?
On va voir si financièrement on peut caser un tour en hélico. HIstoire que ca soit plus spectaculaire.
Le faire dans l'autre sens ? Oui il parait que Bryce c'est vraiment le top du top... donc ca voudrais dire partir de Vegas à Grand Canyon en fait ? Puis Page, Monument Valley, Bryce, Zion, Valley of Fire, puis LA.... mmmm ca se regarde .... je vais voir ça....

From my research, I understand that most "activities," accommodations, and transportation are best arranged day by day, depending on opportunities and encounters. Without an agency, everything is organized on the spot.
I’d love to hear more opinions on this, especially regarding the Orkhon Valley.
Here’s the itinerary I’m planning:
* UB -> Mörön (flight) -> Khatgal (local buses)
A few days at Lake Khövsgöl
* Khatgal -> Mörön -> Jargalant -> Tariat (local buses)
A few days at the White Lakes
* White Lakes -> Tsetserleg -> Kharkhorin (4x4 with driver)
A few days in the Orkhon Valley
+ the Eight Lakes (horseback trekking with a guide)

From what I’ve gathered, the first part should be fairly straightforward, but I have questions about the Orkhon Valley.

Have any of you made this trip by booking a driver on the spot when arriving in Tsetserleg? Was it easy to find an available driver? And did you find it easy/difficult/impossible to find other travelers to share the ride with? Ideally, I’d like to share this leg with fellow travelers.
-> The Eight Lakes: Could you share your experience with the Eight Lakes? Did you easily find a guide directly on site? Were you able to share this experience with other travelers?

I’m considering a road trip (rental car) to explore the Canadian Rockies in September 2026, starting in Calgary and ending with about 10 days in Vancouver and the surrounding area. (Two weeks in the Rockies and a little under two weeks in Vancouver and nearby.)
I’d like to say that being a woman traveling alone doesn’t really bother me. That’s not the issue. Being a woman is just how it is, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon, but traveling solo is something I could fix by finding travel companions. However, I had a not-so-great experience in India with two girls who were total strangers at first and turned out to be quite annoying, so I’m a bit put off by the idea now.
My question is simple, assuming I do this trip alone: is it worth sticking *only* to driving? I have **zero** sense of direction—with a map, I’m hopeless. So, is it realistic to think, "With my GPS, I’ll just drive from Calgary to Vancouver and see what I see," since I don’t see myself hiking alone? I’m not easily scared, but I wouldn’t feel confident doing that solo. Unless all the sightseeing is done with a guide (but then, hello, the cost—my budget isn’t exactly overflowing).
What do you all think?

I’m often in transit in Tokyo and I stay at the hotel because Japanese people speak little English and the signs are almost always in Japanese!
Any ideas for getting from Narita to a nice park or an onsen? I wanted to try Hokkaido, but apart from renting a car, it’s all trains! Any suggestions for a car with a driver? Or is it too expensive? Small group tours in Hokkaido? I read about the Explorator group’s offer—way too expensive!!!
I’ve got a maximum of 8 days. I’d just like a nice Japanese break.

my friend, with whom I traveled to Iran, Myanmar, and India, really wanted to take a one-month trip to Armenia and Georgia. So we booked our flights (June 21 to July 19), but disaster struck—she can’t travel anymore due to serious family reasons.
Now I’m heading off on this adventure alone. It’s not that I’ve never traveled solo before—I spent three months exploring Southeast Asia by myself last year—but I still have a few questions, and I’d really appreciate your input.
* I don’t think traveling alone in these countries is very risky—what do you think?
* Maybe I could hire a driver? What would that cost, since some places seem tricky to reach by public transport. Do you have any driver recommendations?
* I don’t want to rent a car—the driving seems too unpredictable, especially in Georgia.
* I’d love to do some nice hikes—are there any guides available?

Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a few tips that really helped me better prepare my carry-on luggage. After a few trips (and some mistakes too!), I’ve finally found a way to organize myself that makes life a lot easier. Maybe this can help other travelers here.
1. Choose a practical and sturdy bag
A good bag is the foundation. I’ve noticed that a model with a solid structure, sturdy wheels, and a well-thought-out interior really changes the experience. Hard-shell suitcases hold up better, especially when you’re hopping between flights. Personally, I use a Lambert suitcase because the interior is super well-divided, but the important thing is to find a model that works for you.
2. Rolling your clothes really works
It’s simple, but it saves so much space. Plus, it wrinkles less. I do this now for almost everything, especially lightweight clothes.
3. Keep everything in a small kit
100 ml liquids, toothbrush, cream, mini first-aid kit… Having all of that in one clear toiletry bag makes going through security much easier. It saves you from having to take everything out and put it back in a rush.
4. A pouch for essentials
Passport, headphones, charger, phone… I keep all of that in the same pouch. It saves so much stress when you need to find something quickly, especially on the plane.
5. Traveling lighter makes all the difference
Since I started choosing versatile clothes that mix and match well, I travel with a lot less. Less weight, fewer decisions to make, fewer things to lug around. It honestly makes traveling so much more enjoyable.
From the conversations I’ve had with other travelers (and several customers too), I’ve realized you can really simplify your trip just by organizing a little better and choosing good accessories.

From France, is it possible to book online, or do you need to go through an agency? How far in advance?
Boarding/disembarking: how does it work? Do we have to check in our luggage and then pick it up on arrival?
What’s the vibe like on the boat in the seating area?
Has anyone ever stopped over in Carabane? Accommodation options there?

Exploring India by road is all about having a good driver. I highly recommend the one I’ve traveled with for 5 "safe" trips—Rajasthan 3 times over 16 years, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab. He’s been driving tourists for 25 years now and is more than just a driver. He knows how to talk about his country, the cities you visit, and suggests alternative routes.
He’s well-connected with real local guides who don’t just ramble (as he puts it himself) or drag you into shops claiming to be run by their "so-called family." Depending on your preferences, he can suggest well-tested itineraries and recommend typical hotels like Havelis.
For dining, he oversees meal prep based on your spice-level preferences. He’s Sikh and deeply respectful of his passengers.
He speaks English better than French, but one of his daughters is studying French at university.

Does anyone know how late the buses run from Cusco Airport to the city center? I land at 9:30 PM, plus time to clear customs, pick up my luggage, and exchange some money—figure an extra 30 to 45 minutes. Though, come to think of it, I still have 5 sols from last time—maybe that’ll be enough for the bus?

Planned arrival on Sunday evening, November 16, 2025, in San José. Staying 3 nights, then taking a bus to Tortuguero for 2 nights. Looking for a shared shuttle to La Fortuna for 2 nights, then a van-boat-van combo to Santa Elena for 2 or 3 nights. Heading to Quepos for 4 nights for day trips using local buses—Jaco, San Antonio, Uvita. After that, a full-day bus ride to Cahuita. I’m booking hotels as I go, which gives me the flexibility to stay longer in places I like. I’m looking for accommodations in city centers near restaurants and not too far from the bus station. Budget: 50 € for a room with a private bathroom (if you’ve got any great tips!). For my finale, I’ll cross the land border to Panama City for 4 days. Thanks for your suggestions! 😉
