J'ai lu plein de choses sur ce forum mais parfois difficile de trouver les infos qu'on recherche.
Je serai en Thailande du 8 Février au 1er Mars 2011 (1ere partie en solo), pour célébrer mes 30 ans.
J'aimerais commencer par le Nord de la Thailande puis ensuite le sud (avec la Full Moon le 19 février à Ko Phan Ghan, Ko Tao, Ko samui rapidement, Phuket, ko phi phi, krabi)
J'ai besoin d'aide pour la première partie de mon voyage, j'aimerai aller dans le Nord, notamment à Sukhothai, Um Phang et un lieu où il y a de beaux temples (Chang Mai peut-être). J'aimerai y faire notamment un trek à dos d'éléphant et descente de rivière mais je ne sais pas où c'est le mieux pour ça.
Quel est le meilleur circuit pour faire tout ca au départ de Bangkok (de préférence en Bus)? Quel est le Budget à prévoir? Je pars seule pour la première partie, pour une fille, est-ce que ça peut être dangereux? 8 jours est-il suffisant pour voir les plus belles choses dans le Nord? Rencontrer des gens est-il facile dans le Nord?
En gros, je vais ou? Je fais quoi? Par où je passe?
Pour la 2ème partie, normalement une amie va me rejoindre et on fera la partie Sud + 2 jours à Bangkok.
Mon anniversaire tombe le 26 Février en fin de séjour, je serai sûrement vers Ko Phi Phi/Phuket. Avez-vous des idées sympa pour la journée et une soirée au top? 30 ans ça se fête ;o)

tu a l'aire d'avoir un bon programme pour le nord chang mai restera une super destination un très grande ville avec diverse activité possible les gent sur place sont super rien a dire .
pour ma par je me suis logé chez Paul un thaïlandais qui a fait c'est étude en France donc le contacte est passé tres vite il sera te dirigé sans problème sont hôtel se situe dans chang mai city .
voila après pour le sud je suis pas un grand spécialiste phi phi j'aime pas trop et phuket je conseille kata beach voila

Alors pour les photo j'ai le temple mai ayant perdu ma carte sd en Thaïlande je n'est pas grande selection apres je te laisse le découvrir par toi même moi j'en garde un tres bon souvenir surtout en plein soleil .
Pour les trek plusieurs agence sur place propose divers service perso je n'est pas teste je presefere me balade trou seul avec mes amis ect .
Pour l'hotel Paul c'est le nom du proprio j'ai égaré le nom de sons hotel dici vendredi je recuper ma bible sur la Thaïlande ou il sera inscrit le nom de cette hôtel .
Et pour un bon début j'ai commence par le nord pour une bonne immersion à la culture thai apres le sud c'est plus pour le fun les plages le soleil les boite voila mon avis perso .
Apres je ne suit pas un pro de la thalainde juste un pti jeune qui voyage pas chère qui aime l'aventure ect .

Pour le trek moi c plutot à pied et à Pai que je conseille et rien ne t'empeche de faire une ballade à dos d'éléphants... mais je te dis tout de suite que c'est vraiment pas confort... apres une heure j'en avais assez ... je ne sais meme pas si ca existe les treks de 1 ou 2 jours en éléphants. Il me semble que c juste une option d'une heure... La région de Pai vaut le coup d'oeil et franchement moi je ne m'arrete très peu à chiang mai préférant le village de Pai... en plus il y a un francais qui offre le rafting et le trekking là haut et sans la horde de touristes à la queue leu leu comme les agences à chiang mai... envoie lui un email si ca t'intéresse il est aussi dans le lonely et d'autres guides www.thairafting.com son nom est guy gorias

si tu fais affaire avec Guy demande lui de t'envoyer faire de l'éléphant à l'endroit où il m'a envoyé car tu peux aller te baigner avec les éléphants et c un vrai bonheur

Même chose pour moi! Je pars du 13 février au 8 mars pour la 1ère fois en Thailande et je vais fêter mes 34 ans le 27 février!
J'ai plusieurs amis qui sont allés la bas et je devrais avoir de bon projets pour le Nord et le sud a la suite de nos soupers discussions sur la Thailande.
C'est assuré que je serai a la full moon Le 19 ou la half moon le 24 Février. Je verrai rendu la auquel j'irai dépendant ou je suis sur la planète!
Je te souhaite un super voyage et je te réécrirai si j'ai des trucs intéressants a faire hors des dentiers battus!
pour les éléphant et les rivières je dirais il y en a partout !!!
les plus bel rivière sont sur les montagne du nord
pour les éléphant le mieu est certainement dans le nord ou en Isan, sur les iles c'est 5 fois plus cher et les parcours sont moins bien en general
pour les Wat tout dépend le stil recherché si c'est kmer sa sera entre Buriram, Surin et Ubon Ratchathani ou il y en a le plus, bien qu'a Courat aussi pas mal
si on se donne le temps on en verra 3 fois plus qu'a angkor dans une meilleur état et avec des personne bien plus charmantes ...
( location de vehicule + carte + gps ) pour une vrais visite, sinon aller juste a Buriram c'est déjà pas mal

en 8 jrs faire un trek rafting à pai après avoir visiter chiang mai et ensuite aller jusqu'à chiang rai... moi franchement je trouve ca trop
d'autant que pai tu vas voir que l'ambiance jeune et routard va t'y retenir plus longtemps que prévu...
Des fois vaut mieux en faire moins et mieux que de courir pour tout "voir"... et autour de Pai il y a tellement à voir... je devais y passer 3 jrs et finalement y suis resté 1 semaine...

non, ils faut du temps, surtout rien que pour les transports...
une semaine c'est ce qui te faudra pour faire le périple des temples du sud isan
ou un périple des temple touristique du nord et de la plaine ( Chiang rai, Chiang mai, et Sukothai, Ayuttaya )
mes des villes comme Ayuttaya, il y a une bonne concentration de wat, sublimes
Ayuttaya et sukhotail se font en une journais car concentré et touristique les infrastructure sont la ( les bétaillère a touriste aussi )
en ISAN tu es livré a toi même, il te faut une voiture de location c'est le mieux
les viles de Burirram, Surin et Ubon Ratchatani son en sud Isan ( Isan Khmer ) proche du Cambodge, a ne pas confondre avec le nord isan, ( Isan Lao ) proche du laos
Il y a aussi les temple de Nontaburi et Bangyai qui sont simpa au nord est de bangkok, persone en parle, pourtant les Thai aimes les visiter ...
pas de truc de location de scoot c'est pas touristique farang, mai il y a un paquet de wat le long de la rivière, juste avent d'arrivé a Bangyai
quand a Nonthaburi il y a tellement de truc a voir qu'il fraudais un jours que je fasse un site pour ce districts digne de ce nom ...
le coin c'est super sympa tu fait sa en une aprem en scooter 125cc
cette fameuse honda, avec le cliquetis des vitesses ...
sa le mérite de ne pas être touriste land, et tu verra plain de gamin qui on jamais vu un blanc ( réaction devers, du rire au larmes c'est fun )
les coins du sud isan son eux touristique, mai alors vraiment peut, des fois moins d'un touriste par jour, voir pas du tout ...
et pourtant c 'est cline et entretenu rien a voir avec le Cambodge ...
enfin pour tes 30 ans moi je m'isolerais dans un coin paradisiaque ( may be ) tranquille (sure) ( donc certainement pas Phi Phi )
avec une boite de 50 condoms et une Bonne copine

pour évité la confusion Nonthaburi est un district de 600 000 hab
et le chef lieux est une ville du même nom de 250 000 hab

salut le train sa casse le dos, c'est des ville michline avec 50 ans d'usure avec des rail posé sur un sol meuble
et ta des micro deraillage tout le temps et des claquement, d'ayyeur ta souvent des train qui deraille
le bus je dirais l'important c est de prend le top, c est a dire le Bus Vip 24 place air conditioner assurance en cas d accident
repas et massage incorporé dans le dossier pivotant a 38° et large, comme sa secoue moins et ta pas des bruit du train tu dore bien mieux
et plus c'est un peut moins cher que le train couchette

il sont très bien entretenu très propre, et rapide 2x plus vite que le train ( qui peut prendre entre 12 et 16h par moment pour aller a Chiang Mai )
le trains les chiottes c'est souvent craspec et sa pue, en Bus Nakhon il les nettoyée entre chaque voyages
l'avantage aussi c'est qu il on leur propre gare proche de la gare de bus de Motchip2, mai il on pas cette polution de la gare de bus ou de train, et une sale d'atente climatisé et franchement confortable et puis sans cette fine poussière diesel
moi je trouve que Nahkon air est vraiment au dessu des autre compagnie on dirais une compagnie aeriene dans l'organisation

C'est marrant, c'est la première fois que je me renseigne autant pour un voyage, et c'est fascinant de vous voir prendre le temps de me répondre aussi gentiment (j'ai fait les Philippines à la rache en Mai dernier, formidable d'ailleurs)

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).
I need some expert advice on these two destinations for a 15-day trip. We land in KL and plan to stay for 2 days before heading to Borneo and finishing with an island for snorkeling.
For those who’ve been, what are your must-sees?
We were thinking of spending the last 3 days on the Perhentian Islands, unless you’ve got another island to recommend near Borneo.

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.

I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We’re heading to Vietnam as a family on July 8th for a little over 3 weeks (north and center). We’ve only booked the first 3 nights in Hanoi, and nothing else after that. We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. After Angkor, I’ve booked a stay on Ko Chang island. Does anyone know if there are direct transport options from Cambodia to Ko Chang without having to go back through Bangkok? That would be amazing!!

No app for this one—you just hop on bus #14 at the local terminal (pay cash on board). But where do I catch it, and where’s the stop??

From what I’ve heard, it’s the Sida Express company (great name, right? 😄).
Can’t book online, but apparently, you *have* to because there’s only one bus at 8 AM.
