Aaaah, Istanbul, mon objectif de l'an dernier... 🤪... Je dis objectif car mes tours et détours m'ont mené à Rome, un peu avant Istanbul, donc... Alors, question itinéraire, déjà beaucoup de fils dans ce forum, je réitère vite fait: euroveloroute n°6 par le Danube, ou par le sud et l'Italie, plus montagneux et aussi un peu des bouts en bateau. Personnellement, j'étais parti vers le sud, vu que le printemps c'est mieux là où il fait chaud que là ou ki pleut... Et mon poto qui est lui allé jusqu'à Istanbul, après notre détour par les grandes îles de l'Italie (donc Corse, Sardaigne, Sicile), puis notre remontée par la côte, a filé sur Ancône ou un ferry l'a emmené en Croatie, puis de là descente par la Macédoine et l'Albanie, ce qui est assez exotique il parait, et enfin après un re-détour vers Athènes, Thessalonique et Istanbul. A peu près, et dans cet ordre. Mais par là, il fait super chaud à partir de juin, l'itinéraire Danube est peut-être plus cool. Mon compatriote Rando44 a fait Nantes Bulgarie il y a deux ou trois ans, peut-être pourra-t-il t'éclairer par un message perso, mais sinon il y a des tas de fils sur ce sujet...

j'ai fait rennes istanbul 4000 km en 2 moisdu 15 avril au 15 juin 2007 en passant par la suisse et le simplon.
pas de difficultés majeures sauf l'italie du nord qui n'est pas tres agréable à traverser.
de grandes zones industrielles ou commerciales, une grosse circulation et peu de petites routes.
celà s'est amélioré a partir de venise.
en slovénie, hongrie, beaucoup de routes pour les cyclistes.
l'état des routes en roumanie est "variable"
par contre en bulgarie turquie, attention aux chiens qui sont vindicatifs.
l'arrivée à istanbul à vélo, un grand moment dans une circulation dingue avec des routes 2x4 voies.
mais nous sommes allés jusqu'à sainte sophie (pour la photo)

TOULOUSE ARLES MARSEILLE MONACO VINTIMILLE ROME NAPLES, puis je traverse vers le Nord pour rejoindre BARI et BRINDISI.
De la, je prends le bateau jusqu'a PATRAS.Je traverse la GRECE, (PATRAS- ATHENE )et enfin, je reprends le bateau pour ATHENES-IZMIR.J'ai donc 3500 km environ en velo plus 2 traversees en bateau.Je pense faire cela en 45 jours (plus le sejour en TURQUIE )Au niveau du velo:

sur ce voyage, nous avons crevé 2 fois et rien d'autres comme pb.
sur la photo sous mon nom, la sacoche bleue au niveau AV représente mon outillage (2kg), mais je suis un maniaque
pour les ennuis éventuels, tout dépend du type et de l'état de ton vélo
en matière de chaine, des attaches rapides sont suffisantes (avec un dérive chaine).
un pneu souple ça peut toujours servir ainsi que quelques rayons.
nous avons beaucoup dormi sous la tente (avec une attaque de chiens en pleine nuit, frayeur)
en turquie, les gens sont tres accueillants

Notre voyage ne peut pas être aussi long - faute de temps on réfléchit de prendre le train jusqu'à Brindisi. On se demande si "l'architecture" des bateaux pour aller en Grèce permet de monter sur le pont les vélos (accès direct ou escaliers praticables) ou s'il faut les laisser dans la soute avec les voitures, avec tous les risques pour l'équipement que ca implique... Quelqu'un a déjà fait ce passage et peut nous renseigner?

J'ai pris plusieurs fois des ferries avec mon vélo .Celui-ci reste avec les voitures.
Il y a toujours moyen de le caser derrière une poutrelle métallique ou dans un recoin .Je laisse les sacoches que je cadenasse et j'emporte avec moi ma sacoche de guidon.Tout se passe bien .Je rejoins le vélo 1/4 d heure avant l'arrivée.J'avais fait la traversée (par exemple)entre Brindisi et Vlora (Albanie)

Le problème avec les bagages se pose un peu partout... en genéral je suis assez détendue pour laisser le vélo chargé devant des supermarché ou pendant les visites de ville, là, je me sens sécurisée quand il y a du monde qui passe. Là par contre quelqu'un qui s'intéresse au matos de camping aurait tout son temps pour déballer et choisir tranquillement, j'imagine... on devra voir si on n'emmènera pas une partie des bagages tout de même...
Nous allons faire en juillet aout en famille et en vélo le tour de la mer Egée, avec une grande partie en Turquie.
Nous cherchons désespérément un bateau AThènes Istanbul, qui ne semble pas exixter, puis un Athènes Chios Izmir, Puis Izmir Istanbul.
L'été dernier, nous avons réalisé Moulins (Allier) Constanta (Roumaie mer Noire) en vélo également en suivant l'Eurovélo 6. Si tu veux des infos, demande moi.
Nous partons avec VTT suspendus et remorques Bob Ibex ' agrémentés de compteur, rétroviseur et klaxon).
Au niveau pièces, 1 dérailleur arrière, 1 avant, 2 jeux de plaquettes, cable de dérailleur, rayons de rechange, 1 axe de roue arrière pour bob, huile et chiffon.
Au niveau outillage, 1 paire de pinces multiprise, 1 multioutil Décath (allens tournevis.....) clé plate pour pédalier, un rouleau de gaff et une centaine de colliers nylon (pour tout faire).
Sandows + antivols cables à chiffres.
Pas de casse l'année dernière, seulement 2 crevaisons sur les 4 vélos sur 3600 km chacun (pneus schwalbe marathon 368 en 1.50 de large, renforcés Kevlar).
Si le vélo est en bon état, il suffit juste de partir avec une transmission neuve (cassette + chaine)

Nous nous tournons vers toi pour avoir quelques précisions sur l'itinéraire que tu as suivi entre Istanbul et Thessaloniki... En effet, nous sommes actuellement sur nos vélos (à Silivri, en Turquie) et sur notre carte, nous n'avons qu'une grande route, voire qu'une autoroute après le passage de la frontière grecque... Est-ce réellement une autoroute ? Y'a-t-il une autre route en parallèle ? Et après Silivri, la route principale devient-elle plus petite (en direction de la Grèce) ?

Pour Google Maps ; c'est un outil que l'on connait et que nous avons utilisé pour visualiser notre futur parcours (Istanbul - Alexandroupoli - Thessaloniki - Tirané en Albanie - puis Monténégro - Croatie - Italie par la cote - puis Venise - Milan - Turin - Grenoble)
Malheureusement pour nous cyclistes, il ne donne pas beaucoup de détails (taux de fréquentation des routes, leurs états , ...)
Du coup nous nous en remettons donc à ton expérience afin que tu nous dises par où toi tu es passé et comment cela a été ... (état de la route, circulation ....)
Donc par où es-tu passé entre Thessaloniki et Istanbul ?
Est-ce qu'il existe autre chose qu'une grande autoroute sur ce tronçon ?

Bonjour c'est vrai que google maps pour l'état des routes etc... ce n'est pas la top c'est rien. sauf quand le petit bonhomme est passé par là mais ce n'est pas le cas pour votre parcours. J'ai fait le parcours sur google " piéton et là vous verrez que vous ne suivez plus la côte et ensuite vous êtes dirigé par bateau sur une île probablement greque mais google piéton est une version bêta qui réserve des surprise.
Pour l'heure je n'ai jamais fait ce parcours mais je serai étonné que personne sur le forum n'est empreinté ce parcours. Alors avis à la communauté merci de renseigner dans les plus bref délais ces jeunes gens ! Du concret sur voyage forum !
Au passage il y a un post sur le forum qui pourrait vous servir. J'ai lu rapidement et il semble que les autoroutes sont bien présent vers stanbul. Le titre du post est "Istanbul à vélo?"
Depuis SILIVRI pour aller a THASSALONIKI vous devriez pouvoir passer par Tekvidag, Malkara, Kesan, Alexandroupoli, Kamotini, Xanthi, Drama, Seres Thessaloniki
Pour ma part, j ai prefere descendre en Turquie, vers Izmir, traverser la Grece et remonter l Italie a partir de Brindisi
Finalement, notre Istanbul-Thessaloniki s'est bien deroule, d'ailleurs plutot agreable comme portion !

En fait, on a réussi assez facilement à sortir d'Istanbul en vélo, en longeant la mer... après, la 2X3 voies sur laquelle on est tombée ne nous a pas plu... donc, on a pris le bus sur 30km afin de rejoindre Silivri... De là, la route était beaucoup plus calme, donc ça a été jusqu'à Ipsala... Et puis, enfin, notre route en Grèce a été super agréable, on a trouvé des petites routes en bord de mer, en pleine campagne... impecc' !

Je rentre juste de vacances....
Il y a de petites routes qui longent la côte grecque. Il faut se procurer à la frontière des cartes précises et faire son trajet en fonction.
Les autoroutes grecques, ainsi que les "grandes" routes sont plutôt à éviter en vélo, beaucoup de trafic, qui roule vite et à cheval sur les bandes d'arrêt d'urgence, beaucoup de nids de poules sur les bas-côtés.
Tessalonique/Athènes est assez long et très fréquenté, les petites routes cumulent beaucoup de dénivelés et de détours, à vous de voir : tranquillité ou rapidité....

I’m planning a bikepacking trip in a few weeks along the Véloroute V81, also known as the Vélosud, from Biarritz to Le Barcarès.
Has anyone here already done this route? Any info is welcome, whether it’s about the route itself, gear, or accommodation. I’ll prioritize staying with locals as much as possible. On that note, I just signed up for the brand-new site *Guidon et Couette* ((www.guidon-et-couette.fr)), which offers free accommodation between cyclists across the country, but there’s almost no one listed along my route!

I'm developing a free and open-source web app for planning walking and cycling trips (and even car trips). You can create a route by clicking directly on the map to add waypoints, and it can consist of multiple stages. The app provides tools to edit the stages and the overall route, and to display useful information (distances, altitudes, and elevation changes). A relief profile can be shown as a graph for a specific stage or the entire route.
Once the route is ready, it can be exported as a GPX file, which can then be used with a GPS or a mobile navigation app.
The app is built in JavaScript and runs entirely in the web browser. It uses the Leaflet library and several OpenStreetMap-based services. Initially developed for my personal needs (I enjoy hiking and cycle touring), I’d be happy to share it with anyone who might find it useful. It’s free to use, doesn’t require an account, and the source code is available.
After testing it for three years across various modes of transport, I’m sharing this video of a bike packing case. It’s made from recycled cardboard and shrink-wrapped, with adjustable thickness and added bubble wrap depending on the level of protection you want.
Installing spacers at the fork and chainstays makes the packaging compact. With the fifteen-odd euros for shrink-wrapping at the airport, this case travels really well.

- Low bulk (1.10m x 0.70m x 0.25m for a large frame), it fits vertically in train luggage compartments and the total dimensions (x+y+z) don’t exceed 2.40m.
- Two carrying solutions for public transport and easy handling by airport staff (no more tears in the cardboard from openings).
- Discreet packaging when dealing with bus drivers and train conductors, as it looks like an ordinary parcel.
- No need to return to the starting point to retrieve the case from your outbound trip, which you’d otherwise have to store somewhere, or deal with a bulky cover to pack in your panniers.
- You can still check tire pressure through the plastic film without damaging the packaging too much.
Drawbacks: Around 3 hours for this lengthy and meticulous process—removing the wheels, pedals, handlebars, and derailleur without misaligning them, then securing all components to the frame.

I’ve got my flight ticket sorted—departing in mid-November and returning in mid-March. I’ll arrive in Santiago and leave from Buenos Aires.
I’ve already been to southern Argentina, specifically Torres del Paine National Park, and I’d love to go back to do the full W trek (I only did the shorter version last time).
I also want to do some hiking and maybe even tackle a summit. I climb and occasionally do some mountaineering, so I’ll definitely be going with a guide.
I plan to start around Temuco in Chile, with the idea of heading toward the lakes, then taking the Carretera Austral.
I’m not sure if I’ll go all the way to Ushuaia—it’s supposed to not be *that* worth it, except for the bragging rights of saying you’ve been to the end of the world.
I saw there are lakes in Argentina too.
I don’t have a precise itinerary, but what I’d love is, once I reach the southernmost point of my trip, to take a mini-cruise to see some wildlife. Any tips for that?

I’m planning to cycle from Morlaix to Brest (via Roscoff and the V45 coastal route). We’ll start riding on August 16th for 13 days (with stops for island visits, surfing, etc.). Is there a lot of traffic at this time of year? I’ve got two kids, 11 and 13, and we don’t like riding in the middle of cars (we’ve already done the Vélomaritime—Caen to Cherbourg—the Loire route from Orléans to Saumur, the Vélodyssée from Nantes to Royans, and the canals like the Nivernais and Bourgogne, where there were plenty of bike-only lanes, which isn’t the case on this route).

That said, I’m tempted by a suspension fork that could offer some comfort on rougher roads.
The recent appearance of gravel suspension forks on the market might meet my needs—at least on paper.
I’m particularly considering the RockShox Rudy Ultimate XPLR fork.
Unlike MTB forks, its travel is short: either 30 mm or 40 mm.
It weighs 1400 g, which is 400/500 g more than a steel fork.
Any thoughts or real-world feedback on this?
I’m also wondering about the durability of magnesium (lower leg) for long-distance bike touring.
And what’s the impact of skipping the manufacturer-recommended maintenance every 50 and 200 hours? That’s bound to happen on a long trip unless you carry extra gear.

I’m making an exception and creating a separate post this time, since it’s all about France. In May, we spent a week in Provence, specifically in the Luberon, exploring the cycling routes *Autour du Luberon à Vélo*, the *Véloroute du Calavon* (part of EuroVelo 8), and the shorter *Les Ocres à Vélo* route. Together, they gave us an amazing journey through rolling hills, vineyards, lavender fields still green in spring, and some of the most stunning landscapes in southern France.
It was, of course, the perched villages that impressed us the most. We visited Gordes, Roussillon, Bonnieux, Lacoste, Lourmarin, Ménerbes, Oppède-le-Vieux, Cucuron, and Lauris. Many of them are among the most beautiful villages in Provence, and it’s hard not to agree with that reputation.
One interesting point is the route of EuroVelo 8 in this part of the region. The official path mainly follows the old railway line of the *Véloroute du Calavon*, which is very comfortable and safe. But in our opinion, cyclists traveling EuroVelo 8 around the Mediterranean would discover even more treasures if the route passed through villages like Bonnieux, Lacoste, or Oppède-le-Vieux.
We were also pleasantly surprised by how safe cycling felt. Most of the route takes small local roads, but traffic is light, drivers are respectful, and road design really takes cyclists into account. It’s one of those places where you can ride peacefully even without separated bike lanes.

Happy owner of a Pegasus Estremo bike with a Rohloff hub, which is giving me trouble with the SF11-NCX-FT-E-LITE 700C TS 300/0 fork (serial number TD01329060). It’s starting to show its age, and I’d like to repair it to extend the life of my beloved bike.
The suspension is gone, and there’s an oil leak from the seals.
Does anyone know how to repair it? Where can I find parts that are about fifteen years old? Or where to find an identical replacement fork? Just to clarify, the Magura HS11 brakes are mounted using Firm Tech, meaning they’re on pivots behind the fork, facing the frame.

I’m landing in Madagascar with a buddy before the end of April 2026. We’re planning to bike around for about twenty days or so. We don’t have a specific goal other than exploring the country and meeting the locals.
Ideally, we’d prefer a loop route starting from Antananarivo with a good chunk of it along the coast. On the bike side, we’re used to riding 6 to 8 hours a day, depending on the needs, encounters, and mood 😉 Any feedback or tips from trips around this length?

Last year, my wife and I explored the High Atlas by tandem. Completely smitten, we're heading back in April (Anti Atlas) and May (High and Middle Atlas), still on our tandem.
Do you have any info on the track between Amezri and Ali Ait Nito? Are the river crossings in the Tessaout still there? It's not easy to navigate with a loaded tandem... especially if the river level is high due to this year's heavy snowmelt!

First of all... happy New Year! Wishing you great roads in 2017!
I’ve been traveling for a few years now with a high-quality mountain bike, but it’s equipped with hydraulic disc brakes. I live (pedal) with the constant worry of a breakdown (leak, air bubble, heat causing the fluid to...). My bike mechanic tells me it’s impossible to switch them out for V-brakes.
What do you all think? Am I taking a big risk continuing (alone) with these brakes? Thanks in advance for your great tips!
First post here to share a quick recap of our west-to-east bike trip along Algeria’s coast in January 2025.
It was just the two of us—my partner and I—with French passports and not a word of Arabic. No friends or welcoming hosts in the country.
Under those conditions, we’d strongly advise against going.
Our original plan was to follow the coast from Algiers to Tunis. We ended up cycling from Algiers to Béjaia, then took the train from Béjaia to Annaba (with a stop in Constantine), and finally biked to the border.
We were tailed by police the whole way—whether on our bikes, on the train, or even on foot while exploring towns. On top of that, we couldn’t wild camp and were limited to the few state-approved hotels that accept foreigners. Under those circumstances, connecting with locals was especially tough.
With such an omnipresent and intrusive police presence, we’d definitely recommend against this destination for bike touring. A really sad situation that completely cuts you off from the local population...

Duration: 3 months, from May 1st to July 31st, 2026.
In the attached details below, I need to add some "non-riding" days (rest days, basically).
So I’m looking to "shorten" the trip by taking ferries or trains for some stretches. Which areas could I skip?

I’m planning to bike back from Poland this summer. Does anyone know a way to ship it there without having to take it apart? Otherwise, it’s a real hassle to fine-tune all the settings before departure!
