6-month multiple-entry visa for Thailand: how long must we stay outside the country?

Hello,

Last year, we stayed for 3 months in Thailand, north of Khao Lak, and were able to benefit from the 2-month visa exemption, renewable for one month by going to Takua Pa to validate a 1-month extension (1,900 baht). This year, it’s a disaster for us—not only were we planning a 4-month stay, adding a visa run in between (which some say is quite risky), but the law is apparently changing in the coming months with the return of the 1-month exemption (plus the usual 1-month option). So, we looked into applying for a 6-month multiple-entry visa, allowing a maximum of 60 consecutive days in Thailand. However, I can’t find anywhere the minimum time required outside Thailand between two stays—do any of you have an idea? Thanks for the info! If you’d like tips on Khao Lak and the surrounding areas, we’ve got some experience, though things change fast! Cheers, Bruno.

Hi there,

6-month multiple-entry visa, with a maximum of 60 consecutive days in Thailand, but I can’t find anywhere how long the minimum stay outside Thailand is between two periods—any ideas?

I see nobody’s rushing to answer you—maybe no one knows, me included—so I’ll dare to ask: what makes you think there’s a minimum?

Hello, There’s no minimum time you need to spend outside the country with this Multiple-Entry Visa (METV), as far as I know—it’s not stated anywhere. But if you want to play it safe and re-enter without any stress, why not spend 2 or 3 days in a neighboring country?

Hi, And thanks for your replies! We’re actually thinking of doing just that, but I’m a bit wary since Thailand is tightening its conditions, and last year, to validate an extra month, the process was simple on paper but... complicated in terms of documents—even our Thai friends and hosts didn’t understand everything! Since nothing’s specified about the time spent outside Thailand, we’re thinking of heading to Saigon for a few days—direct flight from Phuket and an amazing city. Take care, Bruno
