Hi everyone,

I’m planning a trip to Tenerife this winter and have already booked my flight. I’d love any tips to help me prepare. My wife and I are into hiking and exploring all the interesting spots—countryside, villages, and towns. We usually get around by bus, but renting a car in Tenerife seems like a good idea to reach different sites. I’d appreciate any info on car rentals and accommodations. Thanks so much!

Hi there,

Tenerife is a stunning island, though unfortunately partly spoiled by overtourism in its southern part—an area best avoided for accommodation unless you enjoy the vibe of large beach resorts. There’s something for everyone, after all!

Renting a car makes it easy to explore all its corners: the Caldera, Anaga, the north coast, Teno...

Autoreisen and Cicar are good rental agencies.

I wrote a recap of my own trip to the island, which you can find here.

You might find some useful tips in it.

Have a great trip over there! !

Thanks, Agnès, for your reply and all your tips.

I read your feedback on your stay, and I found it even more interesting since your travel style closely matches what we’d like to do. The beautiful landscape photos you took during your hikes really make me want to walk those trails. Two years ago, we really enjoyed our winter trip to Lanzarote. We did some amazing hikes there. I imagine Tenerife can offer just as many stunning landscapes. We got around exclusively on foot and by bus, even though we only stayed in one place—the old town of Arrecife. The bus network in Lanzarote works really well and lets you hike from one spot to another without having to backtrack. That doesn’t seem to be the case in Tenerife, at least not at first glance. So, thanks also for the car rental agencies.

Have a great evening, and happy travels ahead! Jean Pierre

I really enjoyed Lanzarote too.😉 The island is smaller and less rugged. It must be easier to get around by public transport there.

In Tenerife, some roads themselves are an adventure. The experience is different in a car than in a potential bus (better view, a touch of anxiety for the driver sometimes...). It must also be amazing by motorbike or bike.

For hiking, the must-see is the caldera or the Anaga area.🙂

Have a great evening!
