Nous partons, mon conjoint et moi, pour la Thaïlande et le Vietnam le 3 février prochain. Nous avons beaucoup lu sur ce forum les commentaires et les suggestions des nombreux et généreux contributeurs. Nous avons donc enfin réussi à faire un itinéraire que nous jugeons intéressant. J'aimerais avoir vos commentaires. Nous partons 6semaines et le Vietnam nous attire un peu plus que la Thaïlande, précisément en raison de son développement moins avancé.
Thaïlande 5 au soir: arrivée et dodo. 6-7-8-9: visite de Bangkok nous passons beaucoup de temps à Bangkok notamment pour nous remettre du long trajet d'avion et pour nous reposer un peu. 10 au matin: départ pour Ayuthaya. Visite et coucher. 11: Lobturi. Coucher. 12: départ pour Sukhotai. Visite les 12 et 13. 14: départ pour la province de Tak pour un trek 15-16-17-18: trek pour aller visiter des tribus montagnardes dans le coin de Um Phang. 19-20-21-22: visite de Chiang Mai22 ou 23: départ pour le Vietnam en avion, de Chiang Mai à Hanoi.
Vietnam 24-25: Hanoi 26-27-28: Along 1-2: Sapa nuit du 2 au 3 trajet de nuit Halong-Hué 3-4: Hué et Danang 5-6: Hoi An quelqu'un a un tailleur à recommander??? 7-8: Nha Trang 9-10: Ho Chi Minh 11-12-13-14: Delta du Mékong 15-16-17-18-19: Phu Quoc 19: retour à Ho Chi Minh pour le départ vers MontréalAlors, c'est faisable ou on rêve???
Je vais plusieurs fois par an au Vietnam, je me permets donc de commenter ton itinéraire :
Il y a 1 jour de trop à Halong, passe le à Hoa Lu ("la baie d' Halong terrestre").1 jour de trop dans le delta du Mékong, passe le plutot à aller voir les tunnels de Cucchi à quelques kilomètres de Saigon.5 jours à Phu quoc : ok mais uniquement si vous aimez la plage car il n' y a que çà à faire sur l' ile. Les plages sont belles et en fin de parcours c' est sympa de terminer comme çà.

Si tu peux, au lieu de faire Nathrang (qui as beaucoup changé), préféres Mui-Né. Tu fais une location, de moto, et tu vas voir les dunes. Génial !!!

1) Oui je vous conseille d' aller à Dalat. C' est un autre visage du Vietnam. La ville est à 1500 mètres d' altitude, il fait 20-22 °C (çà change de la chaleur étouffante), il y a des lacs, des forets, des cascades, des producteurs de fraises aussi 😉, bref 2-3 jours sur place sont bien sympas.
2) Désolé, je n' ai pas d' adresses de tailleur.
3) Pour l' hotel à Phu quoc je vais toujours au "Saigon Phu quoc Resort", c' est le plus cher mais c' est le plus beau et il est très agréable d' y rester. ( http://www.sgphuquocresort.com.vn/ ). La plus belle plage de l' ile est celle qui se trouve au sud-est (j' ai oublié le nom), au dessus du village d' An Thoi.
J'ajoute donc Dalat à mon itinéraire. En ce qui concern le Saigon Phu Quoc Resort, c'est justement là que nous avions prévu aller. Contente de constater que c'est un bon choix.
Pour l' hotel à Dalat j' avais reperé le Novotel (je n' y étais pas allé car je ne savais pas qu' il y en avait un), il est très beau (une ancienne batisse coloniale) et bien placé. Je vois sur leur site internet qu' il y a moyen d' avoir un bon prix pour ce type d' hotel ("seulement" 44 us $) mais en échange la réservation n' est ni modifiable ni remboursable. A toi de voir...

Nathrang, est devenu une ville refaite, dans le sens, que toutes les guesthouses au bord de la plage, ont été détruites, maintenant tu as le droit à des hôtels de plus de 10 étages, et je ne te parle pas du prix. A contrario, si tu vas dans les rues derrière tu peux trouver, très facilement, des mini-hôtels, pour 5 personnes à 10 $.Très propre, sympathique, avec frigidaire, TV, ascenceur. Et tu est seulement à 5 minutes de la plage. Je te parlais de Mui Né, car personnellement, je trouve que c"est beaucoup plus sauvage. Le matin et le soir, tu vois les pêcheurs avec leurs filets, que sur Nathrang, tu n"as pas du tout cela. Par contre, à Nathrang, la plage est immense, est si tu est courageuse, un matin tu te lèves à 5 h., la plage est bondé, le soir aussi d'ailleurs. Car les vietnamiens, avant d'aller au travail, à l'école, ils font de la gym, natation, etc...
Mui Né, si tu souhaites louer une moto, derrière le village de pêcheurs, à faire absolument, surtout au port, derrière tu as des dunes de couleur différentes. C'est magnifique !!! Tout cela pour te dire, que c'est totalement différent. Je reconnais que je connais Nathrang, depuis 10 ans, car chaque année j'y vais, j'ai vu l'évolution, donc je suis déçue. Mais Nathrang, c'est beau. Nathrang, c'est devenu une station balnéaire, Mui Né c"est beaucoup plus petit village.

Je ne sais comment trop te remercier de ces infos précieuses. À la lumière de ce que tu me racontes, j'ai décidé d'aller aux deux endroits. Je suis curieuse de voir Nathrang, qui semble être une destination assez prisée, mais je souhaite aussi -et surtout- en connaître un peu plus sur la vie des villageois du Vietnam. Voir des pêcheurs se rendre en mer le matin? C'est absolument le genre de chose que je recherche! J'aimerais beaucoup que tu m'envoies les photos et les adresses dont tu me parles (si tu préfères, ça peut être en privé aussi... comme tu veux)
Je suis d'accord pour enlever un jour à Halong et SURTOUT passer à la Baie d'Halong terrestre, c'est superbe et pas loin de Hanoi.
Pour Dalat, je me suis arrêté là-bas une nuit. J'ai trouvé la ville très sympa et étrange dans ce Vietnam. Je pense qu'il faut t'y arrêter.
Pour les tunnels de Cuchi, c'est pas terrible (pour moi). J'ai préféré le temple de Tay Ninh. Et surtout le Delta du mékong, sublime...
A propos de l'itinéraire Thailande, vous avez bien raison de prendre votre temps pour vous acclimater, choisissez un hotel à Bangkok dans le quartier de Banglamphu, c'est tout près des sites principaux, ce qui évite les trajets dans le chaos du trafic de la ville.
Les treks du côté de Umpang sont surtout connus pour le rafting et la plus haute chutte d'eau du pays, à ne pas manquer.
Sinon je trouve que vous avez choisi un bon rythme et l'itinéraire est bien pensé.
beaux projets et quelques parts cést vrais que lorsquón a 6 semaine en asire, mieux vaut faire un programme!!!

Donc, le nord de la thailande, bonne idee, chiang mai est une super ville, vraiment.
Si vous etes a chiang mai, poussez jusque pai, 1 ou 2 jours du moins, arcade bus station, 60baths et 4 heures de bus, a paï:source d'eau chaude, treck en tout genre si ca vous branche, waterfalls et tout et tout, meme si ca a beaucoup changé cette année c'est toujours un endroit adorable.
Pour le vietnam je n'appronfondirait pas trop car je n'ai pas du tout aimée, mais concentrez vous beaucoup plus sur le nord que sur la cote, quitte a aller passer quelques jours sur la cote thai avant de partir car je comprend la besoin de plage.Koh chang est a 4 heures de bbgk et c'est pas les stations balneaire non conviviale du tout que sont hoi ann ou na trang.
et detrompez vous, le vietnam nést pas moins devellopes que la thailande, si vous cherchais du roots allez au laos ou en birmanie
en tout cas enjoy au maximum
et laissez place a l'improvisation dans votre programme, c'est encore le plus exitant!!!!
Je note pour la baie d'Along terrestre. J'ai très envie d'aller à Dalat, et donc, je m'y arrêterai comme tu le suggère. Rien de certain encore pour les tunnels... je n'acroche pas autant.

I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before.
