Notre voyage en Thaïlande pour Avril 2009 se prépare peu à peu grâce à vos renseignements. 😉
Nous arrivons à BKK le 11 Avril à 19h10 avec la Cie Etihad (Cie choisie suite à vos bons conseils). Nous voudrions réserver un hôtel près de l'aéroport (en connaissez vous un ne dépassant pas les 30€) car nous repartons le lendemain matin avec Air Asia pour Surat Thani.
Alors maintenant ça se complique car de Surat (où nous arrivons à 10h15) pour aller à Koh Samui, je ne sais pas quelle compagnie maritime prendre (je suis un peu perdue avec tous les horaires des différentes compagnies que j'ai pu lire sur internet). D'après ce que j'ai pu lire certains bâteaux partent de Surat et d'autres de Donsak. Pour aller à Donsak il faut plus d'une heure de bus. Alors quel bus prendre de l'aéroport si je dois me rendre à Donsak ?
Après une semaine à Koh Samui où nous logerons au Lamai Beach residence, également suite à vos précieux conseils), je voudrais paser deux jours à Koh Phan Ngan (j'ai remarqué l'hôtel le Salad Hut qui me semble sympa, qu'en pensez-vous?). Puis à nouveau problème de transport. Y-a-til un bâteau qui part de Koh Phan Ngan pour Surat Thani ou faut-il que je retourne à Koh Samui pour le prendre. Sachant que je m'envole de Surat Thani le 21 Avril à 10h45 pour Bangkok où nous passerons 3 jours avant notre départ pour Paris prévu le 24.
Combien de temps avant le vol d'Air Asia devons-nous être à l'aéroport ?
Voilà donc toutes les questions que je me pose encore 🤪 🤪 et pour lesquelles j'attends patiemment vos réponses.😏 😏 😏 😏 😏

Cela peut paraître facile pour certains mais pour moi c'est un peu le stress 🤪 car je ne connais pas du tout la Thaïlande, je parle très peu l'anglais et pas du tout le Thaï, et je n'aimerai surtout pas râter mes correspondances, car en allant sur différents sites les horaires ne sont jamais les mêmes. C'est pour cela que je vous sollicite, vous les habitués de la Thaïlande. Peut-être qu'un jour (je l'espère) c'est moi qui pourrait donner des conseils à des nouveaux.

Pour la première nuit, c'est un peu dommage de dormir près de Suvarnapum, c'est pas super comme coin. Pourquoi pas mettre disons 1000 bht de plus, et faire une nuit à Sukumvit ou Kaosan... Enfin, c'est perso ce que je ferai malgré le peu de temps. Et disons qu'un bon chauffeur peut mettre 40 min pour l'aéroport depuis, de mon expérience, Chinatown par exemple, un dimanche matin à 10h30 (en plus le jour d'arrivée de Taksin en février 08). Suffit de donner l'heure d'arrivée et 100bht de plus s'il arrive. Bon, faut aimer rouler vite en voiture :-)) 150 en slalomant entre les autres sur le speedway, j'ai juste trouvé ca trop parfait. A la fin j'avais meme l'impression qu'il avait plus peur que moi ! Enfin, pardon de m'étaler.
Sinon, pour le bateau, le plus simple est qu'à l'aéroport, tu vas vers une agence et tu leur demande un billet pour Samui. Ce sera surement un truc du style minibus puis bateau et peut-etre re minibus pour aller à ton hotel sur samui suivant la compagnie qui te transporte. Si tu essaye de te rendre toi-meme à l'embarquadère, ca peut-etre un peu compliqué pour pas grand chose et peut-etre meme plus cher.
Après sur Samui, tu fais la meme chose. Tu te rends dans une agence, voire plusieurs si tu veux comparer les prix (souvent idem), et tu achète tes billets de bateau et on t'explique comment ca marche. C'est super facile.
Juste un truc, vu que tu pars de Surat à 10h45, il te faudra passer une nuit à Surat avant ton vol. Si je me trompe, les spécialistes de Samui me rectifieront. Car impossible d'être à l'aéroport de Surat à 10h00 avec les bateaux publics. A moins que je me gourre encore une fois.

Pour ce qui est de l' aller, je pense que tu as déja réservé un vol Bkk/Surat Thani ? Sinon tu peux faire le trajet en train couchettes de nuit, et ne réserver ton billet que quand tu seras à Bkk (Ce billet peut inclure à ta demande le train + la navette en bus de la gare à l' embarcadère + la traversée jusqu' à Koh Samui)En fait tu rentres dans n' importe quelle petite agence de tourisme à Bangkok et tu peux en ressortir en quelques minutes avec ta résa. pour le train couchettes + la navette jusqu' au port + la traversée + re-navette jusqu' à ton hotel + nuits d' hotel. Voilà, tu verras tout se simplifie à grande vitesse une fois en Thaïlande.Je pense que si tu as ton billet d ' avion pour Surat Thani, tu trouveras également une possibilté de navette jusqu' à l' embarcadère ou de taxi collectif sans problème.
Pour ce qui est du retour, mefie toi si ton avion est dans la matinée !!! En effet cela risque de t' obliger à passer la nuit à Surat Thani car si tu comptes faire Koh Phan Ngan - Surat Thani (Passage par Koh Samui obligatoire) dans la matinée par ferry, c 'est je pense impossible d' arriver à l' aéroport pour un vol dans la matinée !!!
A ta place, j' opterai pour la dernière nuit sur Koh Samui et pour l' avion (Air Asia) qui part le lendemain dans l' après midi de Surat Thani pour Bkk.
Je me permets également de te recommander Koh Tao sauf bien sur si tu vas sur les îles pour les full moon ou autres stupidités, dans ce cas ... Je ne peux rien pour toi ...
comme tu vas loger au Lamai Beach Residence, Latanapong aura la gentillesse de t aider pour la suite de tes aventures en Thailande, il connait parfaitement la region.

il y a toujours un taxi, un tuk tuk ou un bus!!! surtout sur le parcours que vous allez faire!!!
si tu arrives un matin a Surathani pas de probleme pour prendre un bateau pour Samui, en général c'est a Donsak!!!
Par contre si ton vol est a 10H45 pour repartir il vaut mieux que tu soit sur le continent la veille!!!
je vois mal comment tu va faire koh Phan Gan surathani juste en quelques heure le matin!!!

Pour les ferrys pour Ko Samui, en fait tous les bateaux partent de Donsak. Certains annoncent des départ de Surat mais ce sont les horaires de départ de bus.
Le mieux est de prendre Seatrans. De toute façon en arrivant à l'aéroport tu auras toutes les facilités pour rejoindre Donsak en bus.
Il y a des bateaux directs de Ko Phan Ngan à Donsak, d'autres font excales à Ko Samui mais tu ne dois pas descendre du bateau. Tu trouveras toutes les infos une fois là bas ne t'en fait pas !
Il faut arriver 1h00 en avance pour les vols intérieurs.

Merci pour tes réponses. Je n'ai pas encore pris mes billets d'avion mais pour mon retour du 21 Avril de Surat Thani par Air Asia il n'y a qu'un vol à 10h45 alors que le lendemain il y en a un également à 15h20. Mais si je pars le 22 il ne me restera plus beaucoup de temps pour visiter BKK. Donc je passerai surement la nuit du 20 à Surat Thani. Non je ne vais pas sur les îles pour la full moon, j'y vais pour décompresser, me ballader et passer nos 35 ans de mariage avec mon mari en tête à tête loin de l'agitation parisienne.

Pour suratthani :
Prendre un minibus(400-500b) dans n’import quelle agence pour aller a Donsak car le gros ferry est beaucoup moins long (1h30) que le speed boat a suratthani (2h30).
Pour le bateau pas de problème y’en a toutes les heures jusqu'à 18h a pied y’a toujours de la place. Ticket a peu près 130 b.
Pour Samui très bon choix, pour phangan vous pouver demander a l’hotel a Samui qu’il vous réserve l’hotel a Phangan souvant il profit des prix qui sont sur le net ;-))
Bateau speed boat pour phangan (lomprayah) 250 B/per reservation a l’hôtel a Samui car comme ca ils viennent vous chercher gratos…
Il y a un speed boat (seatran) qui va de phangan a suratthani.
Vol air asia il faut y etre 1 heure avant.

Si je préfère prendre un hôtel près de l'aéroport c'est que, arrivant le 11 à 19h10 il nous sera plus facile de passer une bonne nuit de sommeil sur place (vu le décallage horaire 🙁) et d'être à nouveau de bonne heure à l'aéroport pour reprendre un avion pour Koh Samui à 9h00 avec Air Asia.
Par contre à notre retour de Koh Samui le 21 nous passons 3 jours du côté de Sukhumvit à l'hôtel Manhattan (choix d'après vos différents commentaires).

Contrairement à ce que je pensais, il semblerait qu' il existe un bateau Koh Phan Ngan - Surat Thani sans arrêt à Koh Samui, voici d' ailleurs un lien avec les différentes compagnies, leurs itinéraire et les horaires aller et retour .Il s' agit de la compagnie Raja .

mais je vais essayer de trouver le site de Seatran (car Latanapong me parle d'un speed boat de la Cie Seatran qui ferait Koh Phan Ngan/Donsak directement) et le site de raja ferry annonce un départ de Koh Phan Ngan à 7h00 pour Surat. Alors si on calcule 1h30 de traversée + 1h de bus de Donsak à Surat, cela me fait arriver vers 9h30/10h à l'aéroport, un peu juste pour prendre l'avion de 10h45 (si on compte les éventuels retards qu'il pourrait y avoir).
Sinon je me renseignerai une fois sur place, je trouverai bien quelqu'un parlant français. 🤪

De toute facon ils vendent les billets Koh samui -> aeroport de surtthani pour etre a temps a l'aeroport. Soit de Phangan ils font pareil soit vous repasser par samui car la c'est sur qu'il le font.
Le mieux c'est de laisser faire, sur place le jour ou vous arriverez, vous verrez a quel point c'est facile de tout vous organiser.

I didn’t plan to return to Thailand this year, but my health conditions mean it’ll be the best place for me to stay between two trips to India. The tourism setup there is so well-organized that it’s the most "comfortable" country for a short visit. Thailand feels too sanitized for my taste, and there’s too much religion, Buddha, and the King, but it’s still the best option given how my health has been evolving. I’d considered two weeks in ThaTon for hiking, but I got too sick from the burn-offs during my trips to the mountains around Chiang Rai. So I’m not sure where to go this year. Definitely not the sea, touristy spots, or the mountains with burn-offs...

In 1996, we crossed Vietnam from Saigon to Hanoi by motorbike—Minsk bikes we bought in Saigon. I haven’t been back since, and it seems like a lot has changed.
- We’re heading to the south (well, the north and center) with the family in July-August (3 people).
- Is the road network more developed now? Back then, there was only National Route 1 from south to north. I’m thinking of renting a car this time (no motorbike with the family—though in ’96, they had a Jawa sidecar for sale, and we hesitated… maybe it’s for the best).
- Is Halong Bay really something to avoid because of overtourism? Even back then, it was pretty crowded. Is there a less touristy alternative?
- We’ll be traveling from Hanoi down to Danang (the only city we didn’t stop in back in ’96). Even though it’s a bit overhyped in a Chinese-tourist kind of way (from what I’ve read), we’re only going for the beach—pure relaxation for 7 days. The beaches are stunning, and I know the South China Sea is warm like coffee.
- Then, we’ll visit Hoi An, where I stopped in ’96. It was already popular with backpackers back then, but no glowing boats or all the touristy fuss!
- After that, Hue, where I have great memories—it’s a beautiful city.
- And also the nature around Ninh Binh, followed by 2-3 days in Hanoi.
That’s the plan. I’d love to hear any tips to avoid mass tourism, and if anyone’s done this before:
- Is it possible to rent a car in Danang and drop it off in Hanoi?

I’m struggling to wrap up the end of my itinerary, even though it’s pretty straightforward (long but simple).
Last year, we did Malaysia (KL and the mainland + around Kuching).
Day 1 – Arrive in Kota Kinabalu early, stroll around town and hit the must-sees.
Day 2 – Excursion to Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, snorkeling at 3 islands.
Day 3 – Hike around Mount Kinabalu without summiting (450 per person, no way).
Day 4 – Poring Hot Springs + evening flight to Sandakan.
Day 5-6-7 – Kinabatangan River (still looking for the right guide).
Day 8 – Sepilok for the orangutans, the Sun Bear Centre, and Rainforest Discovery Centre.
Day 9 – Selingan, turtle island.
Day 10 – Head to Semporna.
Day 11-12-13-14 – Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai.
Day 15 – Bohey Dulang.
Day 16 to Day 25: I’M STUCK.
I looked into Danum Valley, but for 3 days/2 nights, they’re quoting 650 € per person—come on, that’s ridiculous.
I checked out a detour into Indonesia (still East Borneo), but I’m having trouble deciding what would be amazing.
I read about Sangalaki + Kakaban (2 islands, 1 base) / Mahakam Delta - Kutai (orangutans and river) / Sungai Boh (Dayak Kayan) – jungle & culture.
But honestly, I’m struggling to finalize this itinerary.
If we venture that way, we’d head back to KK from Balikpapan.
For a 4-month stay in Egypt, I had ENORMOUS problems. The regulations are very bureaucratic and extremely nitpicky there. For a 4-month stay in the Philippines, I was wondering if the procedures are just as complicated? I’m bringing my cell phone with an eSIM. Should I choose a plan from Canada for use in the Philippines, or should I get a plan only once I arrive? After 30 days, do I renew with the Canadian provider I chose before leaving, or do I switch to a local company? Do I need to register my phone with the authorities in the Philippines? (That was the case in Egypt.) For the 3rd and 4th months, will it be just as simple—renewing with a Canadian or local provider—or should I expect problems?

We like to decide things on the spot and go with the flow, without rushing everywhere. But I’m still a bit unsure: when heading down to the center (Hue), is it better to book the overnight trains in advance? We don’t want to take any flights while we’re there—just use the overnight train for the long trips. But I’m worried we won’t get seats if we buy the tickets on the spot, say, 2 days before. I’d love to get some feedback on our itinerary—it’s probably pretty basic! This is our second trip to Asia and our first to Indonesia. We have three kids aged 20, 18, and 12. We land in Jakarta at 4 PM, spend 3 nights/2 days there, then take the train to Yogyakarta for 3 nights/2 days, followed by the train to Surabaya for 2 nights/1 day, then the train to Bromo for 1 day/1 night, a private driver to Ijen for 2 nights/2 days, then on to Bali (Ubud) for 4 nights/3 days, followed by Gili Air for 3 nights/2 days, Senggigi (Lombok) for 2 nights, and finally 5 nights in Kuta. I’m considering cutting the 2 nights in Senggigi to just keep Kuta and extend it to 7 nights. In Lombok, I’m not sure how to get around since I’m not comfortable with scooters... Your thoughts on all of this, and any advice, are more than welcome—don’t hesitate!
For those wondering why cities like Jakarta and Surabaya: we don’t often get the chance to visit big Asian cities, so we wanted to include that discovery in our trip. The trains between Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Probolinggo are booked. The return flight from Lombok to Jakarta is also set. Accommodations are booked but flexible (same for the trains).

For those familiar with SOUTHEAST ASIA, I'm planning to leave in mid-June (with the trip ending at the latest in November), and I don’t have a precise idea of exact places or itineraries yet. The thing is, this period is usually the rainy season...
Any advice? I was thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia, like Sulawesi, for example (all countries and islands in Southeast Asia interest me except Bali).
Any recommendations? I’m doing my research online, but if anyone here has the time and knowledge, I’d love to hear from you.
My partner and I are planning a trip to Indonesia in September-October 2026. My girlfriend and I booked our tickets with Saudia Airlines for a trip to Thailand this summer, from July 5th to August 3rd. Given the geopolitical situation in the Middle East, we’re keeping a close eye on the news.
I was wondering if anyone here is in the same situation as us?
• Have you heard anything about possible mass cancellations or if the airline is still maintaining its routes to Asia?
• Are there any travelers who’ve recently returned who could tell us if air corridors have been changed (longer flight times)?

Thanks for all your contributions on the forum—they’ve really helped me plan my trip. There are four of us friends heading to Sulawesi for 20 days. Based on all your advice, I’ve put together the following itinerary:
July 30: Makassar – sightseeing
July 31: Makassar – sightseeing + overnight bus to Rantepao
August 1–7: Tana Toraja with a guide
August 7: Tana Toraja to Tentena + visit Tentena
August 8: Early departure with a private driver to Ampana, then ferry to the Togian Islands
August 9–15: Togian Islands (2 different resorts)
August 15: Depart Togian Islands for Luwuk
August 16: Flight Luwuk to Makassar
August 17: Rammang Rammang
August 18: Stroll in Makassar, then return home
Overall, what do you think?
I also have a question about the connection between Tentena and the Togian Islands: Is it doable to leave early in the morning as planned and still be sure not to miss the ferry?

I’m currently working on a 30-day itinerary for May/June 2027.
10 days in eastern Java (Malang, Bromo, waterfalls, Meru Beriti Park, Banyuwangi, and Ijen), a short transit in Ubud for a few days, then Flores before heading back to Jakarta.
We’ll spend 15 days in Flores (the classic route: Moni, Bajawa, Riung, Ruteng, ending in Labuan Bajo).
I’d love some firsthand feedback on flights to Maumere or Ende from Bali Denpasar. I know there are no direct routes and that you have to connect through Labuan Bajo or Timor (I think), which isn’t an issue in itself.
But I’ve read here and there that flights to these destinations can be delayed—or worse, canceled—and that it’s better to fly in and out of Labuan Bajo, which isn’t exactly ideal...
