Washington (state)
FR
With its major metropolis, Seattle, and proximity to the Canadian city of Vancouver, the state of Washington offers a dynamic image on all levels, including economically with companies like Boeing and Microsoft headquartered there. But beyond these urban areas, Washington is primarily a nature state, both along its coastline—particularly Puget Sound, the striking inlet reaching Seattle—and in its interior, where mountains exceed 4,000 meters, such as at Mount Rainier National Park.

Cities and their heritage

Beaches and coastline

Like in the neighboring Oregon, the coast here is rugged, offering stunning landscapes to discover along US Highway 101, which roughly follows the shoreline to the magnificent Olympic National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Even if a town like Ocean Shores is known as THE coastal resort of the region, it’s primarily for the scenery and all the outdoor sports available in the area that visitors come—rather than for swimming, given the water temperature, even in summer.

Nature and activities

Both along the coast and inland, this part of the U.S. is breathtaking. Whether it’s the coastal strip or the famous Puget Sound, the inlet reaching Seattle and home to the charming San Juan Islands, or sites like Mount Rainier National Park, North Cascades, or Olympic National Park, there’s plenty to explore. Each environment offers its own outdoor activities, from hiking, rafting, and skiing to whale watching and even diving.
