Hi there,

Anse Sévère:

After spending over 2 hours at Anse Source d'Argent, our driver came to pick us up to take us to Anse Sévère to finish the tour.

Gorgeous beach (not far from the port) with a slightly different vibe, but we liked it.

The program originally included a stop at Anse Patate, but due to lack of time, we decided to stay at Anse Sévère to really enjoy this beautiful beach. Maybe next time for Anse Patate.

A few photos:

Continuation: We returned to the port around 6:30 PM to take the second-to-last tender back to the ship. There was almost nothing left on the dock because they were packing everything up.

A few photos taken in the tender on our way back to the ship. The sun is starting to set.

Halfway between the ship and the port, the tender broke down. Lol! Another tender came to our rescue (never seen that before). Anyway! Finally back on the ship, I settled on the balcony for my apéritif, enjoyed the sunset, and especially relived this amazing day I just spent in this MAGNIFICENT place!!! Whiskey (Jack Daniel’s) and Coke.

Dinner at the classic restaurant, then headed to my favorite bar (Bliss) to finish the evening.

Victoria / Mahé:

Like La Digue, before leaving I’d contacted several agencies for a quote for a full-day tour (island loop + beach). I couldn’t find anything under 200 €.

I wanted to rent a car, but driving on the left makes me nervous, and I’m a bit scared...

Back in 2018, I paid less than 100 € for 7 hours of sightseeing, and now the price has doubled. Oh well!

I posted on Facebook and found someone for 150 € for 10 hours of touring (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.). Since I’ve already visited this island, I gave him a detailed itinerary with the places I wanted to see.

The ship arrived at 6 a.m., and by 7 a.m. we got the go-ahead to disembark.

We got off around 8 a.m., and the driver was already at the meet-up spot with my name on a sign.

He took us to the car, showed us the itinerary I’d sent him, and handed us a map of the island.

We started with a loop around Victoria, but since it’s Sunday, everything’s closed and the streets are nearly deserted.

Hi Catherine!

Despite a few minor hiccups (late disembarkation from the boat, broken tensioner on the way back), we still had an unforgettable day on La Digue. Honestly, I’ve rarely seen such beautiful sunsets.

Next up

We’re heading to Beau Vallon. It’s early, and the beach is almost deserted, but it makes you want to take a dip. We’ll come back at the end of the day to finish our route.

AMAZING!!!!!! A LITTLE QUESTION: Have you ever had any issues with shore excursions? Like breakdowns, traffic jams, and... arriving too late for the ship? I have a little memory from London—we’d booked a BOAT tour, which luckily saved us because the bus ended up being 2 HOURS late on the way back due to traffic from a soccer match. The poor cruisers who’d gone on their own found themselves in a pretty rough spot! Anyway, that kinda cooled our adventurous spirits...

Hi Gilberte,

Thanks for your message!

I must be incredibly lucky because I’ve been on over 60 cruises and almost never had issues with shore excursions.

From what I remember, I only took a ship-organized excursion once—it was for safety reasons, and it was in Israel (Holy Land cruise).

That said, I’m pretty cautious and try to get back to the ship at least an hour before “all aboard.”

Last year in Polynesia (Raiatea), we’d booked an excursion on our own, and the minibus broke down after an hour on the road. But since it was early in the excursion, another minibus came to rescue us a few minutes later. Other than that, I’ve NEVER had any issues

From Baie Ternay, we follow the entire coast, passing through Grand Anse, Anse Boileau, Anse à la Mouche, Anse Soleil, and Anse Gaulette to reach Anse Takamaka, where we’ll have lunch with our guide.

At Batista’s in Anse Takamaka, it’s a hotel bar/restaurant where every Sunday there’s a local vibe with a live band and an all-you-can-eat buffet for 700 SCR (around 45 € per person).

Giant tortoises in the parking lot at Batista’s.

We stopped for lunch. I’m not usually a fan of buffets, but the setting was gorgeous, and it was really nice to be part of such a lively local atmosphere.

After this 2-hour break, we hit the road again for Anse Intendance. Anse Intendance:
