Bon, j'ai pris le temps de prendre connaissance de tes derniers conseils et posts qui étaient joints à ton dernier mail !
On fera le Yunnan en premier, le Vietnam nord en deuxième, et en troisième dans le désordre, Ninh Binh (Tam Coc etc ...) BH maritime et Hoa Binh
(2 semaines pour le Yunnan, 1 pour Ninh Binh, 2 pour la boucle nord, et la dernière pour BH maritime et Hoî An) je ne pense pas refaire Hué et Da Nang. Mais tout cela n'est pas figé ....
Je ne sais pas encore au niveau des vols et ou on arrivera et d'où on partira, mais à priori :
- si on arrive à Kunming et qu'on repart de Hanoï, avec l'entrée sur le VN par voie terrestre ce sera aux alentours de 1000 €, et 1300 € si on fait le choix d'un vol Kunming/Hanoï + visa à vérifier
- si on fait un A/R Paris-Hanoï avec 1 escale et incluant le vol Kunming/Hanoï on tourne aux environ des 800 €, et en vol direct 1000 €
- Plus cher si on repart de Da Nang
Donc à voir ....
Reste cette boucle du nord qui pose toujours problème !
1/ si on arrive par voie terrestre de Lao Caï, et que l'on suit tes conseils en partant direct sur Bac Ha pour la boucle Ha Giang, ce qui me va bien ... comment faire cette grande boucle incluant la route Dong Van Méo vac avec retour sur Hanoï ? sachant qu'on est partant pour prendre quelques transports en commun à certains endroits, mais que globalement, on préfère voiture avec chauffeur pour s'arrêter quand on veut pour les photos !! les bus etc ... ne nous arrêteront pas ou on veut, et iront d'un point à un autre, et si la route est belle !!?? et par transport de nuit comme Lao caï, on ne voit rien ! plus bcp de temps perdu.
Donc la première question sur ce sujet, est comment et ou peut on prendre un véhicule avec chauffeur qui nous prendrait dans le nord vers Lao Caï ou Sapa, et que l'on pourrait laisser à Hanoï !? s'il nous compte le retour, autant continuer cette boucle par la route 32 et reprendre le train à Lao Caï pour retourner à Hanoï, après avoir laisser le chauffeur et la voiture !
La deuxième est : "quid" de cette route 32 que nous ne souhaitons pas zapper dans le cadre de ta boucle Ha Giang ?! la solution serait peut être de faire un vol Kunming/Hanoï et de prendre un chauffeur à Hanoï qui nous ferait faire le GRAND tour incluant la 32 !? à moins que tu ais une autre alternative ?
Tu me suggères de faire la BH maritime AVANT la BH terrestre. Compte tenu de l'attraction des rizières et de la date des récoltes, n'est il pas souhaitable de faire l'inverse, la BH maritime ne présentant pas un caractère d'urgence par rapport à la période ?
Par ailleurs, dans cet esprit, vaut il mieux, au retour du Yunnan, s'attaquer à la région de Ninh Binh avec direct transport en commun la BH maritime et retour hanoï pour faire être sûrs que les rizières de Tam Coc soient encore attractives (dans ce cas nous y serions la 2ème semaine d'avril), ou la fameuse boucle du nord qui va nous prendre je pense 2 semaines, ce qui nous amènerait à Tam Coc dans cette deuxième option vers la 4è semaine d'avril !!
Idem pour Yuanyang et les terres rouges, tu me suggères de commencer par les Terres rouges qui, si j'ai bien compris seront superbes en avril. Si nous partons dernière semaine de mars, peut être vaut il mieux faire l'inverse pour avoir les rizières du Yuanyang encore en miroir ?! sur mars et faire les TR sur avril !
La 109 et 100 dans les TR ?? ce sont des routes ou des points kms sur un parcours ? j'ai vu ça sur l'un de tes fichiers attachés ! mais comme je n'arrive pas à avoir une carte du Yunnan ....
A ton avis, vaut il mieux prendre les vols intérieurs avant de partir ou peut on les prendre sur place sans risque (Hanoï/Da Nang) ?

Bonne idée d'enclencher l'ensemble du trajet, par contre, peut on louer une voiture à Lao Caï ? et la rendre à Hanoi ? sinon couper en 2 avec location à Lao Caï rendue à Lao Caï pour la boucle nord, retour en train Lao Caï/Hanoï et re-location hanoï retour Hanoi pour la route des photographes !! au cas où .... !

Ne pas faire de confusion : au Vietnam, il n'est pas possible, pour un touriste, de louer une voiture sans chauffeur (style Hertz ou autre) d'ailleurs je n'ai jamais vu ce genre de société au Vietnam. Les touristes n'ont pas le droit de conduire une voiture (ni même une moto, le scooter est toléré ... A mon sens, tu peux donc tout à fait solliciter les services d'une voiture avec chauffeur à un point et demander qu'on te laisse à un autre point d'autant que les voitures avec chauffeur, tu vas les trouver à Hanoi, pas à Lao Caï où elles devront venir à ta rencontre depuis Hanoi. Les voitures que l'on trouve à Lao Caï sont des minivans qui te "montent" à Sapa - 9 places je crois dans le minivan - (car le train ne va pas jusque là-haut) et dont le prix varie du simple au sextuple selon que tu as affaire à un rabatteur ou que tu ailles direct dans le minivan.
A voir le prix de la location voiture avec chauffeur pour revenir sur Hanoi. Les places du train de nuit entre Sapa et Hanoi (ou vice versa) sont achetées en totalité par les agences de voyages qui les revendent à prix fort. S'il y a des invendus, alors, directement à la gare (mais pas au guichet) on peut avoir des places au moindre prix. C'est un peu la loterie et si le prix du billet est au prix fort (multiplié par deux personnes), réfléchir si ce n'est pas mieux de rentrer avec la voiture (dont il me semblerait logique que tu doives, de toutes façons, payer le retour sur Hanoi). Mais, bon, il y a aussi le train de jour, banquette dure, très bon marché... mais qui met une journée pour revenir sur Hanoi.

Hi everyone, I wanted to take the Paris-Berlin overnight train with a sleeper berth, the new service operated by European Sleepers.
24/05/2026 17:45 Paris-Nord (actually 16:00 from Paris Bercy Seine) -> 25/05/2026 9:59 (actually 7:30 in Berlin)
05/06/2026 18:31 Berlin (actually 20:00) -> 06/06/2026 10:00 Paris Nord (actually 12:30)
Part of the journey was operated by bus instead of the promised overnight train.
For 2 people: 340 € round trip
A total disaster. Never again. I was really looking forward to taking the overnight train, but we faced last-minute changes and truly unpleasant travel conditions. Here are the details:
1) 2 days before departure: email announcing a change of departure station for the outbound trip—Bercy Seine bus station instead of Gare du Nord.
2) Change of schedule: 4:00 PM from Bercy instead of 5:45 PM from Gare du Nord.
3) Change of transport mode!! A bus from Paris to Brussels, then an overnight train from Brussels to Berlin. No functional toilets on the bus. No children under 4 allowed on the bus.
4) On the sleeper train at 9:30 PM: no functional toilets in our carriage, so we had to go to other carriages, even in the middle of the night, to find working ones.
5) The onboard staff, though very friendly, were as lost as we were. In particular, they didn’t know how to handle the lower berths, so people using them had less space (armrests and backrests). Berth numbers weren’t respected, so some passengers had to move. The staff also didn’t know who was supposed to join the compartment during the journey.
6) Arrival at 7:30 AM in Berlin instead of 10:00 AM. No arrival announcement. Passengers had to search for staff to get breakfast and ended up with just a coffee (breakfast = 15 €, not bad for just a coffee).
7) Return trip: drastic schedule change announced by email on 26/05/2026—departure at 7:30 PM instead of 6:30 PM, with arrival between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM in Paris instead of 10:00 AM. No change in transport mode announced.
8) Change in transport mode announced by email on the same day (05/06/2026)!! Overnight train from Brussels to Berlin, then a bus from Paris to Brussels. No functional toilets on the bus. Children under 4 banned from the bus, and families in this situation were asked to find another way—after being notified the same day.
9) The overnight train arrived at Berlin station with a 30-minute delay on top of its initial delay (scheduled for 6:31 PM, then 7:30 PM, finally arriving at 8:00 PM). The heating was blasting in the compartment with no way to turn it off. No functional toilets in the carriage. From that point on, customer service stopped responding to my messages.
10) Woken up at 5:00 AM with an announcement in all carriages about arrival in Liège.
11) Woken up again at 6:00 AM to be told we’d arrive in Brussels at 7:00 AM.
12) Arrival in Brussels at 7:00 AM and a one-hour wait for the bus to Paris. No functional toilets on the bus.
13) Arrival at Paris Nord at 12:30 PM, so 2.5 hours late compared to the originally scheduled time.
14) The overnight trains used are very old—I recognized the carriages from 20 years ago!! No functional power outlets, no Wi-Fi, no air conditioning. Five people per compartment is a bit cramped, but I consider these conditions expected (especially the air conditioning), so I’m not complaining about that. There’s already plenty to gripe about with the travel conditions.
I have little hope of getting even a partial refund. Customer service emails acknowledge the discomfort but only offer to reimburse the cost of a coffee on board if we send them the receipt... a bit weak.
I’m sharing this experience in the hope it might help others.

I just realized there’s only one payment method accepted for booking the Mombasa-Nairobi express train ticket online: M-Pesa, a mobile money transfer service used in Africa. Would it be impossible to book as a European?
I’d love to know if any of you have recently eaten on the overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.
We’ve always ordered food on the train, and it was really good (and super convenient).
But in 2022, we ended up feeling like total idiots (with our 4-year-old daughter...) when we boarded the train only to find out that this service was no longer available... (It was the first time we’d traveled right after COVID.)
That’s also when we saw once again how kind Thai people are—they all offered to share their food with us, even though we were mortified. In the end, we managed to buy some instant noodles, which was better than nothing. Anyway, that’s the little story behind it.
In the following years, we’ve always brought our own meals.
I’ve read online that meal trays are back in service (could you confirm this, please?), but that the quality is really poor. I’ve also seen multiple reports that, even though you can eat well everywhere in Thailand, the train meal was the worst food travelers had during their trip...
Could you give me a recent opinion on this?

I’m planning to travel from Ulaanbaatar to Irkutsk by train this summer but I’m a bit worried about crossing the borders. How does it work? Could anyone share their experience? (I’ve found quite a few accounts of people going *from* Russia *to* Mongolia, but entering a country is never the same as leaving it—especially in this context!)
