I didn’t find it either. But in Morocco, spellings can vary depending on whether it’s Berber or Arabic...

Yes, that's exactly it! 😊

Good evening, Aoukerda is south of Tafraoute. I’m sharing the link with you. I’ve never been there, but I passed very close via the R107, which goes through Izerbi!! My god, what a road—I wouldn’t do it again even on foot, not even with a 50 € car 😡. To be honest, I’m still trying to figure out how to get there without leaving my tires behind!!

Hi Imad, I’ve taken the R107 very often. The road is perfect and the scenery is gorgeous. I think you’re talking about the stretch that leads into the village, which is bad?

Good evening Alain, Oh! Now I’m starting to doubt! I took this route just two years ago! Anyway, once I’m at the hostel, I’ll ask. But your message still reassures me 🙂 Thanks.

I take this route from Tafraoute to the RN 17 and Icht, or vice versa, pretty much every year—except last year for health reasons. It's fully paved all the way. Since then, there’ve been heavy rains, and it’s possible the stretch across the plain along the oued before Icht may have taken a hit?? Any members with updates??

I forgot to ask if this village is a bit far from the 107

After thinking it over, I think it's Aoukerda.
LA Lagardevicto Veteran ·
Hi Jean, Sure enough, looking at the map, that seems to match up. I’ll swing by during my next winter trip soon.

I went there some time ago and have great memories of it. You can find some info and photos in this travel journal. https://www.routard.com/forums/t/3-semaines-au-maroc-mais-quel-beau-pays/333221
VI Viovio2 Regular ·
I think I read recently that the region was badly damaged by torrential rains some time ago. Worth checking the condition of the roads.

Thanks for this amazing travel journal that helped me discover some stunning off-the-beaten-path spots!

We felt the same way. I discovered some different spots in your travel journal. And thanks for all these beautiful photos!
VI Viovio2 Regular ·
Morocco is vast, and the paved roads are expanding, allowing travelers to access new sites. It's awesome!
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
That’s why I love every trip I take. Still just as much joy in revisiting certain regions or people, and of course, always eager to discover new things.
VI Viovio2 Regular ·
When's the next trip?
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
Not before 2026 now. I just got back from 3 weeks in China, specifically in Yunnan. An amazing trip that we really enjoyed. So, we won’t be traveling again right away...
VI Viovio2 Regular ·
China is an amazing destination... it's a dream! Planning a travel journal? It would also be a great opportunity to do some traveling too!
FD Fdan Regular ·
Icht, a town far from mass tourism... Is it easy to find decent accommodation, simple but clean, for one or two nights—or even longer if we like the area? Thanks, and have a great day!

No problem, I think. Personally, I always bivouac, so no specific address to recommend. Otherwise, nearby, there’s a large fenced area called "Borg... etc."—I don’t remember the exact name, but everyone knows it—which is great and also has a large campsite. Otherwise, there are gîtes.

Icht is quite well-known and reasonably visited. So, finding guesthouses won’t be a problem. Other members might be able to recommend specific ones.

there’s a large enclosed estate called "Borg...etc." Probably Borj Biramane

Absolutely. Thanks for your help.

I think I read somewhere that this large estate had been sold. What’s the current situation?

MA Marabamu Regular ·
Hi, Actually, the Savonito brothers, the founders, sold the place in 2023. I went back in September '23, and the vibe was totally different.

PS: I just checked the website, and the rates for half-board rooms aren’t the same anymore either

I stopped by Borj Biramane a few years ago and really didn’t like it. Indifferent welcome, dusty bungalow room....
MA Marabamu Regular ·
I never got that impression until the establishment changed hands. I discovered the place 1 or 2 years after it opened and kept coming back regularly. Every time, the two brothers (or one of them) were there. The welcome was professional and the place spotless. I went back once since the change of ownership and felt the same thing as you.

JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
I couldn’t tell you if the owners were there or not—we didn’t stay. But it was packed, maybe a group. We really didn’t like it at all. And yet, we’d read such great reviews, which is what brought us there in the first place...
VE Vero3000 Regular ·
It’s true that in this area, quality accommodations are few and far between.
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
Yes, absolutely....
VI Viovio2 Regular ·
It’s a beautiful region to explore, with vast open spaces. It’s a bit remote from everything—that’s what gives it its charm. But for accommodations, it’s not great.
FD Fdan Regular ·
We’re planning to be around Icht in mid-March. What kind of weather should we expect? Thanks a lot and happy New Year!
Francine
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
Mid-March in Morocco is already spring. Even though the climate is changing....
VI Viovio2 Regular ·
In March, you shouldn't be cold... but personally, I never leave without a fleece jacket, no matter where I go... I hate being cold.
LA Lagardevicto Veteran ·
For years, I’ve only visited Morocco between November and March. This is the first time I’m roasting this much in my little VW.

What area are you in? Good luck to you. I’d tell you to come to my place, but we’re freezing too. You can’t just get invited to someone’s place to warm up. Just one more week and it’ll get better. I’m waiting for 11 degrees impatiently lol. If you can get near a big city, head to Decathlon to buy some warm technical clothes. Take care of yourself anyway
GR Groschats Veteran ·
Still, you're the type who packs ways to stay warm. 😏

I’m realizing I’m not twenty anymore!! Plus, I’m also seeing that my cardio-respiratory arrest last August really weakened me!! Even though I was resuscitated after 10 minutes and given CPR for 6 minutes, I made it—but with fewer bullets left in the chamber!!

The cold this year is no joke!

He knows my house since he’s already been there. Not at all suited for these temperatures.

No amount of ammunition can help...
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
It seems like this year Morocco is experiencing a much colder winter, and wetter too.
VE Vero3000 Regular ·
It's raining, it's snowing, but without causing any damage. That’s important. And the snow that’s melting will continue to feed the wadis for a while.
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
France is getting plenty of rain this winter too... no one’s talking about drought anymore!

We went there in 2010, Mohamed had put on some weight, sure, but he still seemed just as kind. Jipé

It's true that Mohamed has a certain warmth about him. And his modest build is part of his charm—it suits him well.

Still as kind as ever, for sure. We just spent a few days with Mohamed and his family in Skoura. The snow showed up unannounced. Mohamed did everything he could to make sure it was a great time for us and not a hassle. We even loved experiencing that incredible moment with them.
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
We’ll be passing through Skoura in early March, weather permitting. Spring will have arrived—it’s a great month to explore Morocco.
VI Viovio2 Regular ·
And we might have the pleasure of traveling with you. Have a great trip!
JE Jeeaan Globetrotter ·
Will you be in Morocco in March too?
VI Viovio2 Regular ·
No, unfortunately not! But I hope I’ll get the pleasure of following you on the forum... A little consolation! !
