Hi there, Is there a bike route that crosses Italy to catch the boat to Sicily? If so, where does it start and where does it end?

Hello,

Maybe specify whether you're taking the boat from Genoa or Villa San Giovanni...

What’s the best option and the best time—I’m guessing spring?

I don’t bike, but I always travel between April 15th and May 15th—or even May 30th—or between September 15th and October 15th.

In Liguria, they’ve moved the railway line above the coast in many places, and the old railway has been turned into a bike path—like in Diano Marina, San Remo...

Hi, could you specify the starting city? Is it Ventimiglia?

Hi there,

Yes, there’s a bike route in Italy—it’s EuroVelo 7, also called the "Sun Route." It starts way up north in Italy at the Austrian border, at the Brenner Pass (or Prato alla Drava / San Candido in Italy), and ends in Villa San Giovanni / Reggio Calabria (at the tip of Calabria), where you can take the ferry across the Strait of Messina to Sicily. Once you land in Messina, EuroVelo 7 continues on the island (via Palermo, Syracuse, Pozzallo).
