Hi there!

We’re planning a trip to Egypt from January 21 to 28, 2027.

J21 – Arrival in Cairo at 6 PM V22 – Visit the Pyramids S23 – Early flight to Aswan, visit Aswan D24 – Visit Aswan, depart mid-afternoon for Abu Simbel L25 – Morning visit to Abu Simbel, return to Aswan. Is it possible to go all the way to Luxor the same day? Private driver between Aswan and Luxor M26 – Visit Luxor M27 – Visit Luxor J28 – Early flight to Cairo, arrive around 9–10 AM, head back into the city to see 1 or 2 museums (probably just 1 due to time), then flight to Lyon at 7 PM

Does this itinerary seem realistic to you? Does it cover the highlights?

Thanks for your feedback! Best, Christophe

Hi Christophe,

8 days, 5 stops = an average of 0.6 full days per stop... 😕

Does it let you see the highlights?

Otherwise, are you packing even more in?

Best regards.

Hi and thanks for the reply... To be honest, I based it on tour operators. In Cairo, we only want to visit the Giza Plateau, not the city. Is 2 days in Aswan and Luxor not enough in your opinion? We don’t want to see everything—we’ll focus our visits (temples, etc.). Should we skip Abu Simbel? If so, that’s a shame—what’s the best way to handle it then?

Best regards, Christophe

Good evening

I’d say more like 7 days, 4 stops = 1.7 days per stop. Tight, but doable... Have a great trip.

Thanks a lot, that’s reassuring! True, it’s tight, but it should work—we can always go back!

Ah, all good, you found yourself a fitness coach in the end... 😉

Not a fitness coach or a math teacher, but at least I know this: 8 days, 5 stops = that doesn’t average out to 0.6 full days per stop.

Good evening, I could really use some help! All jokes aside, it's true we're at just over 0.6 days per stop... 😉

Absolutely, my dear Watson! Just need to polish it up now! Thanks 😎

8 days, 5 stops = that doesn’t average out to a full 0.6 days per stop

Calculation method I used at the start: 8 days divided by 5 stops = 1.6, then I subtract 1 for the travel days to each of the 5 stops, and I do end up with an average of 0.6 full days per stop.

Another method: 3 full days (1 in Cairo for the pyramids, 2 in Luxor) divided by 5 stops, and I again get an average of 0.6 full days.

And that’s assuming you can go from Abu Simbel to Luxor without having to stay overnight in Aswan again—otherwise, the number of stops goes up to 6, leaving only one full day in Luxor, and the average drops to... 0.33!

Hi Christophe, doing Abu Simbel and Luxor in the same day by car is doable, but it’s a very long day. You’re looking at about 3.5 hours each way between Aswan and Abu Simbel, around 2 hours for the visit, then another 3.5 to 4 hours from Aswan to Luxor. Realistically, you’d need to leave around 4 AM and you’d get to Luxor in the early evening with not much energy left to enjoy it. Two more comfortable alternatives: fly round-trip to Abu Simbel from Aswan (check current schedules), or save Abu Simbel for a full day and do Aswan-Luxor the next day, stopping at the temples of Kom Ombo and Edfu along the way. For the rest, I’d keep at least two full days in Cairo for Giza, Saqqara, and the Grand Egyptian Museum, and two days in Luxor for the Valley of the Kings, Karnak, and the Luxor Temple at night. Have a great trip!

Hello everyone, For a 7-day trip, you’ll lose a lot of time on transportation—not just that, but also unpacking and repacking your bags and airport transfers. For your trip to Abu Simbel, it’ll take at least 3.5 hours in the afternoon, which isn’t doable unless you take the 12 PM or 1 PM bus. You also need to buy your bus tickets the day before to be sure you’ll get one. Otherwise, you’ll have to hire a private vehicle, but even then, you might get stuck at a checkpoint depending on what time you leave Aswan. ?? From what I see, are you planning to stay overnight in Abu Simbel? What do you mean by an early flight to Aswan? For your trip to Luxor, it’s possible, but it also depends on your departure time. Keep in mind that in Egypt, if you’re traveling with a driver, you can’t drive at night—or as soon as night falls, you’ll be stopped at the first checkpoint and won’t be allowed to continue. When you say, "Do you think this itinerary is realistic? Does it let you see the essentials?" Honestly, you won’t see much. What do you want to see in Aswan? Luxor? Cairo? If you don’t know the country, you should plan ahead to avoid wasting too much time. Send me a private message about what you need??? Also, if possible and depending on your priorities, I’d pick two cities to minimize travel time. ?? So, the itinerary isn’t realistic in terms of time lost on transportation, transfers, and luggage if you don’t make a choice. Thoutmosis
