Nous sommes 6 à partir le 3 mai 08 de Lyon à Los Angeles et nous rentrons le 19 mai.
Nous avons loué 4 harley sur le site EAGLE READER de L. A; ce qui n'a pas été une mince affaire puisque leur site ne fonctionne pas correctement mais nous avons eu affaire à des personnes compétentes par téléphone.
Nous pensons partir de L.A., faire une partie de la côte pour nous rendre vers Yosemite; notre but étant de faire de belles balades pour terminer sur une partie de la route 66 jusqu'à refermer la boucle sur L.A. tout en visitant.
Nous n'avons réservé aucun hôtel car on ne veut pas être pénalisés par des réservations suivant le temps, l'humeur et les visites du jour Etc....
Nos questions : quel temps fait-il généralement au mois de mai ? tout en sachant que tout est immense (nous serons limités en bagages). Y a t-il beaucoup de variations de température? Nous faut-il prendre des vêtements chauds ?
Quel circuit pouvez-vous nous conseiller ? Les chambres d'hôtels sont-elles à des prix abordables ?
Est-ce que le pouboire de 20 % de la note du restaurant est toujours d'actualité ?

N'étant pas "biker" je ne sais pas trop quoi te répondre pour l'habillement ; ce que je sais c'est qu'au sud Californie et en Arizona il fait déjà chaud en mai. Peut même faire très chaud à Las Vegas (genre 35C à midi !)
Par contre à Yosemite, il n'est pas certain du tout que la route qui traverse le parc (Tioga Pass) soit débarrassée de la neige...
Plus généralement ton idée de parcours me parait ambitieuse pour seulement 15 jours et tu ne vas pas pouvoir rouler longtemps sur la 66 😊.
Perso je verrais plutôt qq chose du genre : LA/Las Vegas plus une boucle A/R à Death Valley, puis vers Grand Canyon en prenant la 66 de Kingman à Seligman et finir par Monument Valley.
Pour les motels, dans le genre Motel6 ou Super8, compte 70$/nuit pour une chambre de 1 ou 2 personnes, qq $$$ de plus si 4 par chambre.
Pour les restos : perso je compte toujours 15% de service sur le sous-total avant les taxes, et on ne m'a jamais fait les gros yeux 🤪
Si vous ne réussissez jamais rien du premier coup, n'essayez pas le parachutisme !
je me suis fait avoir sur les pourboires, pendant 15 jours de notre voyage, nous avons laissé un pourboires de 20% des factures de resto sans comprendre qu'ils nous facturaient déjà un pourboire sur les tickets, ce qu'ils appellent le T.I.P, facturé en général pour les étrangers.

Je viens de faire la moitie de la route 66 en Ducati au fin octobre en solitaire.
J'avais un RDV important donc j'ai rouler comme un cochon et j'ai fait L.A Toronto en 4 jours.
15 jours sont sufisant je pense.
Le jour il fait tres chaud je roulais avec une veste d'ete. La nuit la temperature descend tres vite, surtout au nouveau mexique car le plateau atteint 2000 metre a des endroit. Moi j'avais juste un sous pull thermique de SKi et mon sac de couchage extreme et j'ai dormis parfaitement sous les plus beau ciel etoile de la route 66.
J'ai dormis sous tente dans le desert donc gratuit, mais j'ai du prendre un logement a oklahoma city car trop fatigue et j'ai trouver une chambre double pour 29$
Si tu prend les petits motel avant les villes tu peux trouver entre 25$-45$ pour une chambre double.
Pour les Tips c'est deja compris mais le geste fait toujours plaisire, surtout quand la serveuse te sort de grand sourire avec sa dentition Texane plus blanche que du Collgate.
Je suis deja jaloux de votre periple. Si tu as besoins d'autre conseille contact moi.
pour eagle rider, seulement la version americaine du site fonctionne correctement mais il faut rentrer les dates sous la forme mois/jour/annee .
en 15 jours à moto je pense qu'un periple LA - SF par la route cotiere est possible en 2 jours (ne pas s'arreter à La, recuperer la moto le jour d'arrivée, longer la cote jusqu'à venice et sta monica, y dormir puis rouler le lendemain ), 2 jours à SF puis route vers yosemite (sous reserve de la tioga pass) DV, LV, rejoindre la 66 au sud vers flagstaff ou kingman et route pour LA . en principe à cette periode grand beau temps et chaud . prevoir une polaire pour les journées fraiches et un blouson leger pour les tres chaudes . + vetements de pluie of course .
budget hotel : prevoir 50 à 60 $ par chambre en moyenne si vous ne voulez pas le luxe ( un peu plus pour SF et LV ) et je suis d'accord pour ne rien reserver . nous avons toujours trouvé !
pour les restos, le Tip ne nous a jamais ete facturé d'office ( sauf pour les groupes) et il faut toujours ajouter 15 % . si nous sommes contents bien sur .

J'ai une autre question toute simple: faut-il que nous emmenions nos casques moto? Je sais qu'ils sont compris dans la location mais un casque reste très personnel et nous pensions les acheter dans une concession à l'arrivée à L.A. mais le problème nous atterrissons samedi soir et prenons possession des motos le dimanche.(à moins de rêver et penser qu'une concession soit ouverte le dimanche?)
Est-il vrai que la concession Harley de Las Vegas est la + importante des USA ?
ok pour la tioga . mais prepares toi 2 itineraires avec tioga et sans . car au moment elle sera peut etre ouverte selon la meteo . cf le rechauffemen, t !
pour LA, à quelle agence eaglerider as tu réservé ? celle à coté de venice et sta monica ? et à quelle heure dois tu retirer les motos ? prevois une grosse heure . c'est dommage que tu n'ais pas retenu à partir du dimanche car c'est d'heure à heure comme les voitures, et tant pis pour frimer à sta monica le dimanche ap midi !
pour les casques nous avons toujours pris les notres (c'est perso, tu l'as dit ) et de la à acheter un casque américain .... je n'aurai pas confiance dans leurs casques (timbales plutot !) et en plus tu n'en fera rien en france car non homologués . en plus tu auras du mal à trouver un magasin le dimanche, chez eagle le choix à la vente est symbolique et penses qu'en californie, le casque est obligatoire !
pour LV, je ne sais pas car HD n'est pas ma tasse de thé et je ne vais pas en principe dans les concessions, mais les rares que j'ai vu sont trés grandes et tout le monde dit que celle de LV est gigantesque ...

Quel beau voyage en perspective.... nous y étions en mai/juin dernier, en HD également.
Il faut prévoir des vètements chauds tout de même, (1 polaire et un pull sous les vetements de pluie) début juin il faisait extrement chaud a LV et 2 jours plus tard a Zion il neigeait.
Nous avons fait la route de la côte LA/SF le 5 juin, il faisait froid.
Pour les hôtels, nous avons retenus sur place, a cette époque il y a de la place partout, pour notre part nous avions privilégié les petits môtels sur le bord de la route, super sympas et pas chers, nous étions 2 couples et la plus part du temps nous avons pris une chambre pour 4 (elles sont super grandes avec 2 lits de 160) pour un prix variant de 35 a 50$ /2 personnes
Pour les pourboires, effectivement ils sont souvent additionnés a la facture.
Pour les bagages, ne pas trop se charger, il y a des laveries un peu partout, toujours a proximités des hotels, et si ce n'est pas le cas on en trouve sur notre route dans les petits bleds, en 40 mn ont fait lavage et séchage.

I’m starting to think about a trip that’s really close to my heart: Algeria by motorcycle, specifically the southern part of the country. It’d be for January 2025, and I’ve got two main questions:
Is it possible for an individual on a motorcycle to travel freely, outside of any organized tour, or does the regulation require some kind of supervision in the Algerian Sahara region?
Is the Hoggar massif accessible by road or by (rideable) tracks?
Beyond the official recommendations, I’m really looking for your firsthand experiences.

I just realized I’ve been registered on VoyageForum since... March 28, 2012 😊. Yet, I’ve barely participated until now.
August 1, 2026, will mark a somewhat special milestone: 5 years on the road.
We left Switzerland on August 1, 2021 with a simple idea: let chance decide our direction. We placed a bottle of wine on a world map, spun it... and it chose our first destination.
A year later, when we arrived in Morocco, we faced a new choice: continue toward Africa or head to Asia. This time, a tarot card game made the decision. Since then, we’ve tried to keep this journey as open to the unexpected as possible.
Today, that adds up to about 120,000 km, 46 countries, and over 1,800 days on the road—mostly by motorcycle, but also by sailboat, train, bus, hitchhiking, or on foot when adventure calls.
Our guiding thread isn’t just the motorcycle, but service exchanges. Instead of simply passing through countries, we try to stop regularly to lend a hand to the people we meet. So far, that’s about 600 days of volunteering.
Over the years, we’ve:
renovated a house in Croatia
made earth bricks in the Moroccan desert
helped sail a boat through the Greek islands
looked after houses, dogs, horses, a camel... and lots of other animals
worked at a street art festival in Morocco
created videos for local associations and projects
worked the grape harvest on the Tibetan plateau
been accredited as "media" for the World Nomad Games in Central Asia
Some of the moments that have stuck with us the most include six months in China, a night spent on the Great Wall, the Pamir Highway, the Silk Road, three months in Taiwan, and the incredible encounters in the mountains of Central Asia.
We travel on Falkor, our lucky dragon—a 2014 BMW F800GS that’s been with us since the start and is starting to have some great stories of its own.
While we share our adventure on Instagram, Polarsteps, and YouTube, that’s not why we’re here. The forum’s rules about promotion are clear, and I totally get them. If I’m finally taking the time to write, it’s mostly because after five years on the road, I thought our experience might be useful to other travelers.

I’m planning a motorcycle road trip to Armenia and Georgia in September 2026 or May 2027. I’m looking for one or more riders (male or female) who’d like to explore these countries with me.
Along the way, we’ll visit Cappadocia, the capitals Yerevan, Tbilisi, Sofia, Skopje, and other cities—we can finalize the route and roadbook later.
This trip requires experience with long motorcycle journeys, as we’ll cover around 7,000 km over 5 or 6 weeks (or more, depending on sightseeing and time spent).
I don’t expect dozens of applicants, since motorcycle riders are few and far between on this forum, but I’m putting this out there anyway.

I’m not particularly drawn to museums, ruins, or monuments.
I want to experience local life—small villages, seaside spots, beaches, and the interior if the landscapes are extraordinary.
Ideally, coming from Athens, I’d take a bus or train to get as close as possible to a starting point, then rent a scooter (125cc) to explore by taking secondary roads or even coastal paths. I’d stay in 2-3 places for a few days each to discover their surroundings.

What do you think would be the ideal itinerary?
From Athens, the best option would be to take either a flight or a bus to Kalamata. Rent a scooter and head either west or east. Is there a tertiary road (very lightly trafficked) or a path where I can ride slowly, take it easy, and enjoy the scenery without being bothered by traffic? I’d like to go all the way to Monemvasia, still hugging the coast. I need to find a way to avoid returning to Kalamata to drop off the scooter and catch a flight—maybe a small town where the train stops so I can head back to Athens.

I’m looking for info on shipping my vehicle by sea—possibly to Uruguay or another destination, as I haven’t finalized anything yet.
How do you get visas for the countries I’ll be crossing: Uruguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile? Are they e-Visas, obtained at the border, or through embassies?
Where can I get vehicle insurance?
Lastly, if any bikers want to join us (my partner and me), we’re open to that possibility too.

I’ve got 15 days off in June and I’m pretty undecided about where to go for a motorcycle road trip. Two strong desires are pulling me in different directions: Corsica or Norway.
Corsica has been a dream of mine for a long time: legendary roads, stunning landscapes, a unique vibe, and the perfect mix of sea and mountains. At the same time, I’m wondering if 2 weeks might be *too much* for Corsica—risking feeling like I’ve seen it all too quickly, especially on a bike.
Since I also have an extra week free in May, I could use that specifically for Corsica. Maybe splitting it into two trips would make more sense? If so, which routes or regions would be the most interesting to plan for a 7-day trip?
On the other hand, Norway is *super* appealing. The landscapes look incredible, totally different from anything I’ve experienced, and it’d be a real “wow” trip. I know 15 days is still short for such a vast country. Getting all the way to the North Cape seems pretty much impossible in that time, but I’m curious about what realistic routes could be planned.
So I’m wondering:
Is it better to save Norway for next year, take 3 weeks off, and do it *properly*?
Or are 15 days enough for a first amazing taste of the country?
I’d love to hear about your experiences—whether it’s Corsica (ideal duration, routes) or Norway (what’s realistic in 2 weeks on a bike).

Hello! We’re planning a motorcycle trip that will include a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in June 2026.
We’re unsure (still debating) whether we should stay at a hotel on-site and get to the memorial with an Uber (leaving our bikes at the hotel) and book a guided tour, or base ourselves in Kraków and take a tour that includes transport.
One thing’s for sure—we’d prefer a guide in French since we don’t speak English 😅.
Could you share your experiences or advice?

Has anyone here already ridden it?
Unfortunately, I’m worried that parts of the N630 may have disappeared or merged with the A66 motorway, forcing us to ride long stretches of highway, which we’d rather avoid.

We’ve rented two Royal Enfield 450s.
This is our first motorcycle trip in Morocco. I got my license two years ago with the dream of taking this kind of trip, and here we are! ✌️😍
In France, we usually ride between 300 to 400 km per day on roadsters. We’re not used to off-road tracks, so we’re looking for easy ones 😅—especially for me 😅.
For Morocco, I’ve planned stages of 200 to 300 km per day.
Here’s the idea:
Day 1 (departure at noon): Marrakech - Tizi n Test - Tafingoult (165 km - 4h15)
Day 2: Tafingoult - Amzarkou - Telouet (200 km - 4h34)
Day 3: Telouet - Ait Benhaddou - Ouarzazate - Boumalne (200 km - 3h30) (+ Vallée des Roses maybe)
Day 4: Boumalne - Dades Gorges - Agoudal - Todra Gorges - Tinghir - Goulmima (291 km - 6h)
Day 5: Goulmima - Midelt - Cirque Jaffar - Agoudim (280 km - 4h45)
Day 6: Agoudim - Imilchil - Aghbala - El Ksiba (280 km - 4h45)
Day 7: El Ksiba - La Cathédrale - Zaouiat Ahansal (212 km - 4h20)
Day 8: Ahansal - Ouzoud Waterfalls via R 302 (188 km - 4h22)
Day 9: Ouzoud - Marrakech (160 km - 2h43)

Can we take our helmets with us in the cabin, or should we pack them in the checked luggage surrounded by clothes to avoid damage?
