Mon projet de voyage en juillet 2011 dans l'ouest des Etats-Unis prend forme grâce à vos conseils avisés. Les réservations des hôtels dans les parcs (Yellowstone et Grand Téton) ont déjà été effectuées. Suivra bientôt la réservation des billets d'avion, de la voiture, des hôtels tout au long du parcours, ce qui, pour une famille de quatre, représente un gros budget. Si certains hôtels permettent l'annulation sans frais, ce n'est pas toujours le cas et quid pour les billets d'avion, la voiture ... Je suis à la recherche d'une assurance couvrant le maximum de risques dans le cas de réservations effectuées à titre individuel (mes premières recherches semblent ne couvrir que les annulations des réservations effectuées avec un tour opérateur). Quels conseils pouvez-vous me donner ? Expériences (bonnes ou mauvaises) à partager ? Merci d'avance de votre aide !
Des assurances sont liées à ta carte de crédit , à vérifier , mais si et seulement si tes achats sont réglés par cette carte.
Les billets d'avions c'est selon le type de billet , à vérifier avec la compagnie .
Si tu prends une assurance annulation quelle qu'elle soit : attention aux conditions ouvrant droit aux remboursement , comme tout contrat d'assurance , il y a des "accidents et circonstances non couvertes" !!!!!!!!!
Pour la location de voiture, ce n'est pas tant la disponibilité qui pose problème, quoique si tu cherches le plus petit modèle (souvent absent) ou la mustang décapotable c'est pas gagné , que le tarif, il est toujours moins cher de louer de france ou sur un site français par le net si tu es déjà aux USA, ceci pour des questions d'assurances qui sont facturées moins cher et incluses au départ.
Attention quand même au type de véhicule loué moto, 4X4 et RV à la durée de la location !!

Avec une carte genre Visa Premier, certaines assurances sont incluses si tu as acheté (ou tu vas..) tes billets d'avion avec. Demande leur, les documents adéquats.
Ensuite contacte ton assureur (maison-voiture), il est possible que certaines choses soient déjà prévues.
les assurances annulations qu'elles quelles soient sont toujours trés restrictives, vous n'etes couverts qu'en cas de diffcultés très sérieuses.
En passant par un TO l'avantage c'est qu'il n'y a qu'un interlocuteur, mais qund on considére les choses vraiment, le voyage organisé n'apporte pas beaucoup plus de garanties qu'en individuel c'est une fausse impression de sérénité.
On peut seulement limiter les risques...
le minimum de prépaiement, hotels presque toujours annulables sauf parcs évidemment et quelques destinations trés demandées.
voiture location réservation simple chez le loueur
billets d'avion pris chez les Cies directement de préférence, pour récupérer les taxes plus facilement en cas d'annulation non couvertes par l'assurance.
Voyager, c'est demander d'un coup à la distance ce que le temps ne pourrait nous donner que peu à peu, c'est gagner son procès contre l'habitude.
L'assurance annulation prend en compte les choses "graves ou du fait d'un tiers" tels : maladie (pas un rhume bien sur), accident grave survenu avant le départ, modification des congés par l'employeur, mutation professionnelle....
Ces assurances sont inclues dans toutes les cartes bancaires (ce qui diffère selon le type de carte se sont les montants d'indemnisation et les exclusions eventuelle). Bien régler toutes les réservations et achats avec la carte.
je ne peux malheureusement pas t'indiquer d'assurances annulation pour un voyage organisé par toi même...
mais quand je fais la liste de mes réservations (pour mon voyage aux US dans 2 semaines), j'arrive à la conclusion que si je devais annuler mon départ quelques jours avant pour X raison, la seule chose que je perdrais (mais non des moindres) c'est le billet d'avion !
toutes mes autres résas sont entièrement annulables et remboursables, y compris la voiture, et les nuitées dans les parcs nationaux.
pour les billets d'avion, il est tout de même possible de les choisir "modifiables" et même "remboursables" mais c'est nettement plus cher...
oui tu as raison, la plupart des billets sont modifiables (pas tous cependant) moyennant une somme tout de même importante...
perso je trouve que 100 € (par billet) ça fait déjà un peu cher la modif, mais ça vaut quand même le coup !
pour mon voyage, j'avais acheté mes billets par eBookers (un peu moins chers que sur le site de Delta à ce moment là) et pour un changement d'horaire (mais le même jour) eBookers m'avait d'abord demandé 236 € pour la modif !
(finalement je n'ai pas eu à les payer, car je ne faisais que demander l'horaire initialement choisi, puis modifié par Delta)
et pour des billets totalement remboursables, j'ai fait une simulation sur Delta :
- un Paris - Vegas non remboursable coûte 580 €
- le même billet, remboursable, coûte 3200 € 🤪
la formule NO STOP annuelle ou temporaire chez Touring. La formule annuelle permet de couvrir tous les voyages effectués pendant un an, la formule temporaire couvre par jour le voyage à assurer. Formule assez complète qui couvre en plus de la maladie, le décès, les catastrophes naturelles, les secondes sessions des enfants, le licenciement, un achat important, ... Sans doute la couverture la plus complète sur le marché belge. Il comporte aussi un volet bagages et vol d'affaires : http://www.touring.be/...ation/comparison.asp. Si tu as des questions bien précises, n'hésite pas.
Pour les Etats-unis, il faut aussi penser à une bonne assurance voyage car les frais médicaux sont exhorbitants là-bas. Bien vérifier le montant maximum d'intervention de vos assurances. Il n'est pas rare qu'un problème médical ou accident coûte plus de 150.000$, j'en connais personnellement qui ont coûté plus de 250.000$.

Tu as raison : il ne faut pas louer de 4x4 et si tu as un carte Gold de chez Mastercard, il ne faut pas que le prix du véhicule loué dépasse 50000€ (et 100000€ pour une carte Platinum toujours chez Mastercard)

Je ne crois pas que sauf imprévu de dernière minute, je modifierai mon itinéraire ... Néanmoins, je veillerai à privilégier des chaînes d'hôtels qui permettent des annulations sans frais, de façon à réduire les risques ...

Tu peux prendre une carte haut de gamme pour la période des vacances et tu arrète l'abonnement juste après les vacances
C'est ce que je fais chaque année avec le crédit mutuel et ils me remboursent la cotisation de la période inutilisée et tu reprends ensuite une carte normale
La carte Gold ne coûte que +/- 20€/an en plus par rapport à la visa classique (chez Fortis). Et elle est liée notamment à une assurance accidents de voyage, assurance annulation de voyage (pour cause de maladie, accident ou décès d'un proche), assurance retard de vol.
C'est justement pour mon 1er voyage aux States que j'ai commandé cette carte visa gold avec laquelle j'ai effectué ttes mes réservations (avions, hôtels, voiture)
J'ai en plus souscrit une assurance (chez Ethias) pour couvrir frais de rapatriement, hospitalisation et médicaments

Type d'assurance que nous avons aussi inclue dans le contrat d'assurance automobile.
Au bout du compte nous avons pour la même chose deux voir trois contrats d'assurance ...

Je ne pense pas qu'il faille généraliser ; en tous cas je n'en ai ni avec l'assurance auto, ni avec l'assurance habitation.
Il est en général préférable, en effet, d'avoir une assistance voyage en complément de celle fournie par les cartes de crédit car celles-ci ont souvent des garanties limitées et des limites d'intervention assez basses, vu leur prix. IL faut bien lire les conditions générales. C'est d'autant plus important pour les Etats-unis où les frais peuvent vite dépasser ces plafonds.

vrai mais il faut vérifier les montants maxi en Amérique du nord ils peuvent insuffisants.
Au Québec l'assurance-habitation inclut automatiquement une assurance-responsabilité de base de 1million.
Une protection qui suit l'assuré partout dans le monde.
Pour une dizaine de dollars de plus, on obtient une protection de 2 millions.

Je sais que vous ne lisez pas plus que moi dans la boule de cristal, aussi je ne vous demande évidemment pas quelle sera la situation au niveau des incendies dans un mois...

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?

Is it pretty easy to navigate Detroit Airport to catch the connecting flight to Grand Rapids (domestic flight)? There are several of them who speak English well.

We’d like to walk to Eagle Falls and then Eagle Lake. I’ve spotted two parking lots that seem close to each other and give access to the trailhead. Where and how do we pay for entry to Emerald Bay State Park and Inspiration Point?
**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I'm shocked by the price of the Upper Antelope Canyon tour—$175 for less than an hour… You might say, "if you can’t afford it…" But the real question is whether it’s really worth it, because $350 for two makes me feel like I’m getting ripped off. I’ve read there are trails to access the trailheads for Cinder Cone (11 km) and Warner Valley. Are these easy trails for an SUV?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

Travelers to the United States | Photo Now Mandatory Upon Entry and Exit | La Presse
I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!
