En fait j'ai contacté plusieurs guide francophone qui sont conseillés sur le site mais 1 seul m'a répondu et négativement (déjà pris : c'est Lalantha), un second a répondu à un seul mail et depuis plus de nouvelles donc si quelqu'un peut me donner les coordonnées d'un guide Francophone pour le Sri Lanka en message privé ça serait vraiment sympa.

Personnellement j'ai aussi eu du mal a trouver un guide pour mon voyage an Avril prochain, soient ils étaient déjà pris, soient ils étaient trop onéreux. Finalement j'ai enfin trouvé, nous voyagerons avec Ivan De Silva.
Bref voici quelques guides que j'ai pu contacter:
- "Cyril Perera" il écrit bien français, à l'air sympas, mais il était trop cher pour moi, à voir selon votre budget (75 euros par jour)
- "indika alahakoon" il n'était pas dispo, mais il avait l'air sympas
- manju galappaththi" travail avec un chauffeur, trop cher pour moi
- Nevil Kotigala" pas dispo pour mes dates
- Anura Lakshman" anuralucky@yahoo.com trop cher pour moi
- ivan de silva" avec qui nous allons voyager (50 euros par jour si on choisit des hôtels où il est logé, si on préfère des guest house on rajoute 10 euros)
- sunny jayasinghe" qui a l'air sympas, mais il est que chauffeur, mais francophone
- Kalahe Gamini" trop cher pour moi (70 euros par jour)
Voilà, je ne vous ai bien sure pas donné ceux qui normalement parlaient français mais m'ont répondu en anglais. J'espère que vous trouverez un guide qui vous convient. Aprés je ne peut pas vous dire qui est bien ou moins bien, car je ne les connait pas, je ne suis pas encore allée là bas.
Je vous ai envoyé le même message en mp, et puis je me suis dit que ces mails pouvaient éventuellement servir à d'autre, donc je les mais aussi ici.

Les tarifs journaliers que j'ai donné comprenne le tout, à savoir les services du chauffeur-guide francophone, son véhicule, l'essence, ses repas et son hébergement. A savoir que ces tarifs sont à priori sous réserve de loger dans un hôtel proposant une chambre gratuite au chauffeur (à vérifier selon les personnes). Par exemple pour Ivan De Silva avec qui nous voyagerons, c'est 50 euros tout compris si on opte pour les adresses qu'il nous propose( selon les critères que je lui demande, exemple piscine ou non, demi pension ou bed and breakfast, etc...). Comme je souhaite également dormir quelque fois en guest house, il est ok mais ces nuits là je rajouterais 10 euros pour son hébergement.
Nous partons du 07 au 21 Avril 2012, mais comme nous terminons par quelques jours de plage, nous avons opté pour les services d'un guide du 08 (notre arrivée) au 17 Avril.
Après j'ai préféré leur demander leur tarif journalier car je voulais créer mon propre circuit (je voyage avec mon fils de 9 ans, et je voulais essayer d'équilibrer visites et détente). Mais si tu le souhaites, tu peux aussi leur demander un devis par rapport a un circuit qu'ils organisent eux même.

Par contre vu que tu es en contact avec ivan da silva pourai tu lui demander s il est libre du 11/02 jusqu au 25/02? Il m a repondu 1 fois pour les tarifs et depuis plus rien. Bon dimanche
Ben je t'ai donné que les guides qui m'ont répondu et en français, donc normalement ils devraient te répondre aussi, simplement certains sont plus rapide que d'autres, surtout s'ils sont en circuit et n'ont pas accès a internet.
Pour Ivan De Silva, je pense que le mieux serait que tu le relances. Tu ne lui avais pas donné tes dates quand tu lui a demandé ses tarifs? De plus il prend plus ou moins sa retraite à ce qu'il m'a dit, en fait il continue de travailler un peu mais beaucoup moins qu'avant si j'ai bien compris.
J'ai contacté Ivan de Silva mais n'ai pas eu de réponse. Apparemment il prend sa retraite en Février. Quand pars-tu avec lui. Nous partons du 22/04 au 4/05. Seras-tu avec lui à ces dates-là? Merci de tes conseils😉
Salut, si c est pour moi ta question alors en fait j ai decidé de le faire sans guide puisqu apparement il y a des guides devant les principaux monuments et autres a visiter. Bon voyage moi c dans moins de 3 semaine maintenant...

En fait je voyage avec Yvan du 8 au 16 Avril, donc pas a vos dates lol.
Après pour les réponses des guides elles sont plus ou moins rapide selon qu'ils sont dispo ou bien en circuit. Quand ils sont en circuit, ils n'ont pas toujours le temps ou les moyens matériel de répondre, donc il faut parfois attendre un peu.
Et oui Yvan m'a dit prendre plus ou moins sa retraite, en fait si j'ai bien compris il va continuer à travailler un peu mais beaucoup moins qu'avant.

Ivan propose un circuit en fonction des desiderata du client. On peut ensuite l'affiner par des aller et retour de courriels.

Non, nous avons versé le premier jour du circuit environ 50% de la somme arrêtée et le solde le dernier jour.

Effectivement, les prix ont bien augmenté depuis 2 ans, et ça ne m'arrange pas vraiment.
Shandeep se débrouille en français mais nettement moins bien qu'Ivan et Shameera ne parle pas français.
A l'été 2010, Shandeep espérait avoir bientôt sa carte de guide, mais je ne sais pas s'il l'a obtenue depuis. Quant à Shameera, je ne sais pas.
Bien sûr, ils parlent anglais tous les deux.

Personnellement j'avais en parti préétabli le circuit que je souhaite faire (bien que je me pose des questions sur le fait d'aller à Anuradhapura ou pas...) bref, du coup j'ai demandé à Yvan si cela lui convenait en lui demandant ses suggestions. Par exemple il m'a conseillé de faire Sigiriya le matin alors que j'avais prévu de le faire en après midi. Bref tu peux discuter avec lui du sircuit, de ce que tu souhaites faire et de ce que tu souhaites éviter.
Pour les logements il me les a tout d'abord proposé en demi pension, comme je souhaite du bed and breakfast le plus souvent, je lui ai demandé et il m'a donc proposé en fonction.
Pour le coût total j'ai pas encore fait le calcul lol, sachant que pour certaines nuits je souhaites opter pour des guest houses et donc voir sur place (certains n'ont pas internet), mais va falloir que je le fasse... car avec la montée des prix + le pass qui est passé aux oubliettes, je vais peut être modifier mon trajet... j'hésite encore.
Comme te l'a dit lepiaf l'ETA est un visa en fait.
Pour le traitement anti palu j'ai lu pas mal de versions différentes... pour ma part je pense que je vais m'en passer, en revanche mon fils y aura le droit (c'est ce qu'a fait le collègue doc de mon doc, il a pris un traitement pour sa fille mais pas pour lui), je suis peut être surprotectrice avec mon fils mais c'est comme ça lol.

Pour l'itinéraire, je suis un peu perdue avec tout ce que je lis🤪: j'hésite entre les parcs d'Uda Walawe et de Yala, Horton Plains, entre Ella et Nuwara Eliya.
Et les plages: plutôt Unawatuna, Tangalle ou Mirissa en Avril/mai avec les enfants?
As-tu (quelqu'un a-t-il) réservé les logements lui-même de France?
Selon ses disponibilités (s'il en circuit ou non par exemple), il me répond plus ou moins rapidement. Parfois du jour au lendemain, et parfois 1 voir 2 semaines après.
Pour les parcs perso au début j'avais choisi Yala (pour tenter de voir des léopards pour mon fils), mais en lisant que certains touristes y ont vécu une matinée de bouchons... ben ça me fait réfléchir... je comptais justement poser la question à Yvan, si selon son expérience, si en y allant avant l'ouverture, s'il y a des chances que ça reste un moment agréable ou bien si c'est tout le temps blindé.
J'ai choisi d'aller à Horton plains (l'adam's peak ne semblant pas être réalisable pour moi comme mon fils lol), et je pensais aller au World'send (se trouve a Horton plains).
Pour le moment je ne sais pas encore si on passera à Ella, je pense qu'on verra sur place selon les envies (normalement le 14 au matin horton plains et le 15 au soir on dort à Tissa, entre les deux on avisera lol).
Le truc sur lequel je me pose vraiment la question c'est si on va à Anuradhapura, ou bien si on zappe cette étape au profit d'un journée de plus pour tirer un peu plus à l'est.
Pour la plage je pense aller à Polhena, là encore je n'ai rien réserver je verrais sur place.
En revanche pour la dernière nuit j'ai réservé vers Beruwela pour se rapporcher un peu de l'aéroport (on ne part pas aux aurores donc pas la peine de dormir sur Négombo non plus) et puis pour faire la nurserie de Tortue.
Bref de France je n'ai réservé que cette dernière nuit. Pour le circuit Yvan s'occupe de la majorité des réservations. Pour les 4 premières nuits, et pour les 3 nuits à Polhena, on verra sur place.

Personnellement j'ai choisi de zapper Anuradhpura: cela fait trop de route pour les enfants pour revoir des temples. Je pense qu'ils vont se lasser.
Pour ton circuit: pour combien de jour as-tu pris un guide et pour quelles étapes? Je me demande si c'est vraiment utile que nous prenions un chauffeur pour l'ensemble du séjour, mais sinon comment réserver nos logements et pour quelles étapes prendre le guide? Nous sommes quand-même 4, et je ne sais pas jusqu'à quel point je dois planifier.
Perso j'ai opté pour un guide pour le circuit à proprement parlé, du 08 au 16. Une fois arrivé aux plages, nous nous débrouillerons, en même temps à part Galle et un centre pour tortues je n'ai pas prévu réellement de "visites" à la fin, je me dis qu'on fera selon l'envie et on usera des bus ou three wheelers selon les besoins.
Apparement, de ce que j'ai lu, le Sri Lanka propose pas mal de logements (guests houses ou hotels) donc je ne pense pas que cela puisse poser soucis. Sauf si bien sure tu veux un établissement en particulier lol.
Perso si j'ai réservé la dernière nuit c'est surtout parceque j'étais tombé sur un prix très intéressant en farfouillant sur le net.

D'après tout ce que j'ai pu lire, tout peut se faire en train et bus, mais ce n'est pas le même temps de trajet. Je crois qu'il y a une ligne de train entre Colombo et Matara, Il y a une ligne de train entre Colombo et après Ella qui passe par Kandy, et une troisième je crois. Tout cela reste a vérifier, car je ne me suis aps penché plus que cela sur ce sujet.
Pour les guides, n'hésite pas a les relancer, saches aussi que Lalantha n'est pas dans les moins cher.
D'après ce que j'ai lu aussi, Colombo ne présente pas beaucoup d'intérêt... mieux vaut Négombo (demande à lepiaf, il me semble qu'il a parlé d'une balade sympas à y faire sur un canal je crois).
Pour les montagnes, je vais continuer de me renseigner pour moi, mais j'ai l'impression que les knucles au Nord est de Kandy ont l'air sympas... mais faut que je me penche plus sur le sujet.
Entre Tangalle et Mirissa, si j'ai bien compris Tangalle est moins "touristique" donc plus sympas niveau nature, Mirissa plus touristique mais un peu moins dangereuse niveau courant et donc pour se baigner avec les enfants. En revanche les deux sont loin de Colombo.
Pour contacter les guest housesw, ben faut chercher lol, certaines ont des adresses mail, d'autre n'ont que le tél donc tu peux soit leur téléphoner maintenant (je n'ai pas du tout idée du prix de la communication) soit attendre d'être sur place pour acheter une carte et leur tél quelques jours avant.
Merci de tes renseignements. J'en suis à peu près au même endroit que toi dans mes réflexions mais je me heurte au problème du guide. Dès que je crois en avoir trouvé un, il n'est pas libre ou pas de réponse comme avec Ivan. Je ne veux pas tout faire avec les transports en commun car nous perdrions trop de temps sur 11J. Seulement Ella> Kandy en train et pour la plage pas besoin du guide. Donc , il faut trouver le guide🤪
Concernant l'itinéraire, sur les hésitations voilà ce que je conseille :
- Passer à Nurewa Elya, s'arrêter au centre-ville voire y manger, faire un petit tour de shopping du côté des habits il y a un large choix, et ensuite reprendre la route pour Ella,
Et dormir à Ella. A Ella, il y a une très bonne guest house : Green Hill, très propre et avec une vue magnifique au réveil.
Les montagnes d'Ella au réveil, rien de mieux...
Ensuite je conseille de partir le lendemain, de passer par Kataragama, ville de pélerinage bouddhiste extra ordinaire (surtout si vous avez votre guide qui pourra vous expliquer les traditions), et ensuite d'aller à Tangalle.
A Tangalle, le soir vous pouvez aller voir la ponte des tortues sur une plage (demander à votre guest house)
C'est une ville peu touristique où on y fait de magnifiques rencontres.
Je conseille très très fortement Frangipani Beach Hotel, à Medaketiya (quartier de Tangalle). L'hôtel est sur la plage, le proprio et son équipe sont des amours, très attentionnés. Vous pouvez m'envoyer un message privé si vous désirez les coordonnées.

We’re heading to Sri Lanka for 23 days in January 2027—there are four of us—and we’ll wrap up the trip with 5 days in Mumbai. Our itinerary is coming together, but what do you think? (We can’t change the dates since our flights are already booked.)
We still have one night to slot in, and I’ve tentatively planned it in Tangalle, though it was a bit random. Would it make more sense to place it at a different stop? Or is there an intermediate stop I might be missing?
I’ve got accommodations sorted everywhere except Mumbai—it’s a nightmare (either way too expensive or really dodgy). By default, we’ve spotted the Residency Hotel Fort, but 70 € a night (with a discount) for a hotel that doesn’t offer anything special in India?!
I’m planning a short visit to Pokhara around mid-February 2027 (it’ll be my 4th time in Nepal 😊, over 40 years!). I’d like to book a room in advance rather than looking when I arrive. I’ve checked a bit on Bxxking.com and see lots of options. I’m used to scoping out the surroundings of places listed, just to avoid ending up in areas that are either unappealing or far from everything.
So, I see quite a few offers around the lake (Lakeside?), but every time I check what it looks like, the streets seem really uninviting. It’s kind of like a construction site with buildings everywhere… Nothing like Bhaktapur (for example) or even Thamel, where the streets seem way more pleasant.
Could anyone give me some advice?
Also, I don’t really get the impression that Pokhara is worth a visit of several days. The lake, sure, but once you’ve seen it—what else is there?
I’m interested in the 10-day/8-night "Discover Nepal" tour offered by Capitales Tours, among others.
For Day 4, it lists Kathmandu-Mugling-Pokhara as 200 km and 8/9 hours of travel.
Is this duration due to the road conditions? I assume the stop in Mugling for lunch is included in the travel time.
For Pokhara-Chitwan, only the distance is mentioned: 160 km. Should I expect a long bus ride there as well?
The proposed flights would be with AIR-INDIA via DELHI. We had issues with AIR-INDIA before—they denied us boarding for Paris even though we arrived at the airport more than 3 hours early. There was no specific counter for PARIS; the counters were for all destinations, and we waited in line for over 2.5 hours only to be told "too late"...

We’ve already traveled to India twice before, but only for two-week stretches (2013, a loop from Mumbai including Hampi, and in 2019, Tamil Nadu). This time, we’re leaving at the end of October for nearly three months of travel—something completely new for us! We’ll arrive in Delhi and depart from Bangalore. Our goal is to explore Northern India and then head down to Kerala, taking a maximum of one flight and prioritizing trains.
Traveling for this long should let us plan longer stops to slow down the pace and fully enjoy our trip...
What are the places you’ve loved with this in mind?

we got back from our trip to Kashmir and Ladakh three weeks ago.
We spent 4 weeks there, including one in Kashmir.
We’re really happy with our stay in Srinagar and Sonamarg. The Kashmiris gave us a very warm welcome and seemed pleased to see tourists who weren’t Indian. In fact, over the 4 days we spent in Srinagar, we only saw 4 people who looked European... Srinagar is stunning with its lakes and the lively Mughal gardens. No trouble getting around, whether by shikara, rickshaw, taxi, or on foot. The houseboats are gorgeous, unfortunately controlled by consortiums. We took a taxi to Sonamarg (20 €).
Sonamarg (two nights) and its glacier are easy to explore, either on horseback or on foot, but it’s becoming a leisure spot for Indians.
To get to Ladakh afterward, we opted for a private taxi (quite expensive at 100 €, but the road is long). Since we’re a couple, it allowed us to stop whenever we wanted... and the route is beautiful all the way to Lamayuru, with our first snow-covered pass under snow when we crossed around May 21st. Then we stopped in Mulbek and Kargil before arriving in Lamayuru (three nights). We took another taxi to Alchi (26 €), spent one night there, and took the local bus at around 8 AM to Leh (3 €, a comfortable one-hour ride). We arrived in Leh around 9:30 AM, and Gyatsel from Tsarap Guesthouse came to pick us up with our backpacks. His guesthouse is located 500 meters from the market square in Leh, in a quiet little alley with no traffic. We highly recommend it because Gyatsel is invaluable for arranging taxis and organizing off-agency circuits...
His accommodation is super comfortable, and he cooks with vegetables from his garden. His wife also helps out... It’s Gyatsel’s mother who tends the garden. Through him, we arranged permits for the Nubra Valley up to Turtuk, then the Pangong and Tso Moriri lakes (we didn’t do the latter due to snow overnight!). We also crossed the Changtang (magnificent) to reach Thiksey, Stakna, Hemis, and returned to Leh. Six days in a private taxi (400 €). Since the roads were clear, we headed to Zanskar for 5 days in a shared taxi (28 € round trip for both of us). The route from Leh to Zangla follows the Zanskar gorges (impressive!).
We discovered Padum, Pibiting, Karsha, and Puktal, which you can reach via a small 7 km road and a 45-minute walk to finish, plus the sacred summit on the way to Manali.
Back in Leh, we extended our permit to visit the Aryan Valley by taxi (round trip, two days, 90 €).
We spent our last two days resting in Leh—the altitude is really tiring...
I’m sharing these taxi prices as a guide for a couple.
Accommodation ranged from 12 € in Leh to 30 € at Pangong Lake (the most expensive), but averaged around 15-17 € per night.
We’re not trekkers, but we love walks, discovery, and meeting people along the way. It was an amazing trip, and we even discovered a very old monastery a few kilometers before Lamayuru, where a monk took us—timeless...

Or is it pretty easy to organize everything as we go without any issues?
Same question for activities: Should we book safaris and tours ahead of time, or can we arrange them easily on the spot? Is there a risk of not getting a spot, for example, to visit a park since we’ll be there in July?
We’ll be using local transport (train, VTC via PickMe, tuk-tuk) to get from one place to another.
In short: Are there any must-book things we should reserve now?

Not only do you save time, but you also know where you’ll be staying each night. Choosing well on Booking (or elsewhere) is actually a pleasure!
For safaris, given the number of jeeps with drivers available, it’s unlikely you’ll be turned away... the real issue is more about the concentration of jeeps around the animals.
I travel like you do—train, bus, tuk-tuk, and sometimes taxi. Ride-hailing apps like PickMe and other VTCs are mostly in big cities.
For the mountain train, due to severe flooding, service was interrupted on the line between Kandy and Ella. Check ahead, because reservations for this train are very complicated, if not impossible.
For the Colombo/Kandy train, you reserve your seats by buying the ticket before boarding. In the south, no need to book in advance for trains.
In Sri Lanka, there’s always a solution for getting around—just ask your hosts. They have trusted contacts at their fingertips. But still, compare prices—😏 smart move!
I stick to booking my nights and keep pre-planned activities to a minimum.
For reservations you can’t skip, it’s the beach stays you’ll want to secure.

We’re torn between spending it in the Jaffna region or on the east coast between Batticaloa and Trincomalee.
We’re divers, so the east coast appeals to us for snorkeling, beaches, and lagoons—but it seems like late March might not be the best time for that coast. What do you think?
As for Jaffna, the culture of the region, its more authentic feel since it’s less touristy, and the offshore islands all appeal to us too—but it seems far from the rest of the country and harder to access.
We have to choose because we won’t be able to visit both sides, and I’d love to hear your thoughts.

We just got back from a 2-week trip to Sri Lanka as a couple, and while planning the trip, we found plenty of info on the itinerary, places to see, and transportation, but much fewer clear reports on the actual budget to expect once there. Yet, that was an important point for us because we like to plan ahead a little before traveling.

We’re a group of 5 heading to the Everest Base Camp trek in early April. We won’t have a porter or guide—we’re used to hiking independently and have already done the Langtang trek and the Annapurna Circuit (back in 2003!).
I’d love to know if it’s necessary to book lodges in advance or if we’ll easily find availability during this busy season. Also, will we find lodges all along the route between the main stopover villages, or only in those villages? I remember there were plenty everywhere on the Annapurna Circuit. We want to stay as flexible as possible.
We’re heading to India in March 2026 and had planned to visit the parts of the Meenakshi Temple that are open to non-Hindus. However, the temple is currently undergoing major renovations—with all the towers covered in scaffolding—which might really take away from the experience and our stop in Madurai.
After some frustrating and vague online searches, and before we reshuffle our itinerary, I’d love to know—if possible—the most accurate expected completion date for the renovation work.

The Lonely Planet says: "In April 2023, the government announced that every trekker would need to hire the services of a porter or a licensed guide to obtain the TIMS permit. The law isn’t enforced, and by 2025, there were no longer any obligations for teahouse treks."
