Après un certain nombre de lectures ici et là (Merci pour ton blog Vazyvite !), j'ai déterminé un petit programme pour mes 10 jours à New York en Novembre. Je n'ai compté que les journées pleines, la première après-midi sera sûrement une petite balade au hasard nous menant vers Times Square puisque ce sera la première fois à New York pour mon mari, autant aller au coeur de Manhattan et de son agitation ! 😉
Lever de soleil à 6h40, coucher à 16h40, courtes journées 😉
Nous logeons au Park South Hotel dans la 28th st. (Vazyvite, encore toi, j'ai vu que tu y étais allé, certes il y a 4 ans, mais il est bien l'hôtel ? Merci).
Vous constaterez l'absence totale de musées... c'est pas vraiment notre truc, maintenant en cas de grosses pluies, ce n'est absolument pas exclu !
Rien n'est vraiment figé (les jours sont interchangeables, les matinées et AM aussi...) sauf le J4 puisque la visite du Memorial 9/11 est réservée. Evidemment tout dépendra aussi de la météo... mais enfin si vous pouviez me donner quelques avis cependant, si c'est parfois trop chargé... Certains jours pourront paraître un peu légers mais nous ne voulons pas trop courir et surtout je n'ai pas précisé les pauses magasins qui ne manqueront pas ! 😛 En plus je prends beaucoup de photos et parfois je reste longtemps devant un endroit pour avoir celle que je veux 😎

Départ à 19h05, donc dernière matinée à traîner dans Midtown sûrement 🙂
11 jours à NYC c'est top, vous allez vraiment pouvoir en profiter sans trop courir et être trop crevés!
Je ne suis allée qu'une seule fois à NY en août 20120 donc je suis loin d'être spécialiste mais votre planning me semble bon si vous avez envie de prendre votre temps. On était pas du tout musées non plus (à part le MOMA mais on est ressorti minutes après en suffoquant pour aller se ballader à Central Park😏)
Pour l'après-midi du jour 1 dans le quartier d'affaires il y a un Mac Donalds (oui je sais bien qu'aux USA on ne mange pas que des burgers mais il faut bien le faire une fois 😉)un peu particulier: il y a un grand piano noir à queue avec un jazz-man à l'étage. On le voit depuis l'extérieur grâce à la petite baie vitrée et j'avais trouvé ça drôle de se goinfrer de junk food dans cette ambiance!
Comme vous semblez aimez le shopping, je vous conseille quand même de passer au Century21 si vous avez le temps (pas loin du mac do). Un peu fouillis mais de très bonnes affaires sur pleins de marques. On peux vraiment trouver de tout en prenant son temps (il y a un magasin annexe avec tout ce qui est chaussures...si je me souviens bien). 😎
Greenwich village est vraiment un quartier adorable et très agréable pour se promener (voir éventuellement le petit parc avec les statues homosexuelles vu que c'est un peu le quartier).
J'ai fais l'ESB et le Top of the Rock (malheureusement il y avait un peu de brouillard)et je vous conseille vraiment d'en faire un des deux en soirée. On avait fait l'ESB assez tard le soir et avec toutes les lumières c'était vraiment magnifique et différent.
Central Park c'est vraiment sympa quand il fait beau mais très grand!
Ca pourrait peut-être sympa de faire Harlem le dimanche pour une messe Gospel (très joyeux) ou profiter de l'ambiance des sorties d'églises...
Un excellent voyage en tout cas! NY est une ville géniale ou règne une constante effervescence!
L'ESB en soirée c'est effectivement une bonne option, je pense que de toute façon une fois sur place on sera bien tenté de faire les deux !
Je note le Mc Do, rassure toi je n'hésite pas à manger des burgers aux Etats-Unis, même pas peur des lieux communs 😉 En plus je suis allée 3 fois là bas et j'ai jamais testé le Mc Do encore !
Pour Harlem le Dimanche j'y ai pensé mais j'ai peur que la messe soit un peu longue et mon mari ça risque de le gonfler un peu... Et je ne veux pas m'embarquer là dedans et partir avant la fin, ce ne serait pas très respectueux 😕
Donc ça on va voir ce qu'en pense Monsieur ! 🙂
Le but du planning c'est de pouvoir flâner un peu, pouvoir prendre le temps de faire les boutiques que l'on veut, s'arrêter au hasard si on trouve un resto sympa pour un brunch, c'est un équilibre visites / flânerie que j'aimerais trouver, tout en voyant tout ce que j'ai envie 😛

Pour un gospel, tu peux éventuellement chercher une église avec une première "séance" à 8 h, qui se termine à 10h. C'est moins long que la messe de 10h.
J'avais loupé la 1re fois la vue de NY la nuit. 🤪 En repérant les heures de fin de journée, nous sommes montés au ToR 1h avant le coucher de soleil, puis 1h sur place. Le jour et la nuit en 2h max. 🙂
Si tu passes devant à l'avance, tu peux prendre les tickets pour l'heure prévue. De préférence à l'entrée de la tour dans le bâtiment sur 50th, où il y a en général moins de monde qu'au kiosque sur Rockfeller Plaza.
J'avais bien aimé surtout le petit-déj inclus bien varié et adapté aux français 😛 ( pain, yaourt, etc ... )
Métro juste à côté. Beaucoup de restos indiens dans ce quartier, surnommé CURRY Hill. 😎
Pour la Federal Reserve, faut réserver d'avance sur leur site en proposant des jours.
Chrysler Building un Dimanche = fermé et pas possible de rentrer. Dommage 😕
Idem, j'irais plutôt le Dimanche à Chinatown quand les gens font leurs courses et Grand Central en semaine car je ne sais pas si le marché avec épiceries fines est ouverte 🤪 Sympa de voir tous ces fromages français !
La remontée de Brodway est amusante avec un changement étonnant de quartiers tous les 2 ou 3 blocks. La meilleure façon de s'en rendre compte à mon avis. Attention de ne pas perdre le fil vers Union Square où on a tendance à continuer sur la 7th Avenue 😛 Et de ne pas se laisser tenter d'aller à gauche ou à droite sinon on ne finit jamais !
Surtout vers SoHo avec tous ces superbes immeubles en Cast Iron. Difficile de résister pour un photographe amateur.
Faut y consacrer un circuit à part avec Tribeca pour rester dans le concept.
Pas grand chose d'autre à dire sur ton programme pour ma part par contre je peux te parler des choses qui m'avaient vraiment plu et marquées. Après c'est très personnel donc à voir selon vos centres d'intérêts, vos envies et aussi le budget (si on pouvait l'oublier celui là! 😛).
A NY on avait énormément apprécié le tour en hélicoptère (durée d’environ 15-20 minutes). Cher mais sensations géniales et vues imprenables. D'autant plus intéressant quand le pilote est sympa et instructif!
Nous avions aussi fait un dîner-croisière (pas un buffet-même si moins cher) le soir. C'était magique aussi. Soirée très classe, posée et cosy. Personnel très attentionné. Par exemple lors du repas (entre le plat et le dessert, qu'on avait fini un peu avant), une dame est venue nous voir et nous a du coup proposé d'aller se balader à l'extérieur pour admirer la vue. C'était vraiment magnifique et prenant. De plus pour ne rien gâcher, le repas et le vin étaient bon et à la fin du repas un coin du bateau s'est transformé en piste de danse. Il y a deux photos souvenir prises avant d'embarquer et que l'on propose de te faire acheter à la fin.
Dernière remarque: je n'ai pas vu de spectacle programmé (ou alors je n'ai pas fait attention 🤪). On avait été voir Marry Poppins à Broadway et c'était très sympatique également. On voit que ce sont des professionnels et je trouve qu'on en a pour son argent. Pour moi c'est vraiment représentatif de New York et en particulier de ce quartier donc à faire si possible!
Si vous êtes plutôt musique vous pouvez aussi faire une soirée dîner-jazz sur Harlem (au cotton-club, endroit très réputé). Je ne l'ai pas fais personnellement mais j'en ai entendu du bien et je pense le faire quand je retournerai sur NY.
Pour info je retourne aux États-Unis l'année prochaine et notamment à NY et toutes les activités que je viens de te dire je compte bien les refaire (preuve que ça m'a vraiment plus 🙂).

C'est pas facile d'occuper un Dimanche finalement dans cette grande ville ! J'avais mis la gare et Chrysler ce jour là car j'ai lu à droite à gauche qu'il valait mieux rester dans midtown pour voir un peu d'animation mais du coup je vais tenir compte de tes conseils et caser Chinatown.
J'espère aussi qu'il ne fera pas trop mauvais... 😕
On verra bien, si ça se trouve on va passer notre temps enfermés dans les magasins et les musées 🙂

Oui le Marriot j'avais oublié mais c'est très bien comme endroit! Tu peux aussi décider d'y dîner. Nous on avait pris la formule buffet et on en avait été satisfait, très complet et puis c'est marrant de changer lentement de vues!
Non dans mes souvenirs ça n'était pas excessif pour un buffet à volonté dans un endroit pareil (assez chic). Sur internet j'ai vu que le buffet était à 35USD par personne, ce qui correspond approximativement à mes souvenirs. En plus l’ascenseur panoramique pour arriver au 47e étage est vachement sympa à prendre!
Après il y a d'autres options comme prendre le buffet mais uniquement fromage et dessert (moins cher forcément) ou juste prendre un verre ou un coktail. Le restaurant est beaucoup plus cher, on ne l'a pas fait donc je ne peux pas t'en parler.

Chez Sarabeth's, par exemple (http://www.sarabethscps.com/). Je t'ai mis celui de Central Park South mais il y en a trois autres dans Manhattan.

Déjà, Central Park, classique. Il y des "flea markets" aussi dans le coin. Ca peut être sympa !
Sinon, moi le dimanche, j'avais pris le ferry pour Staten Island, j'avais fait la High Ligne, je m'étais baladée dans Greenwich... c'était super animé, super sympa. On sentait les gens très relax ! Je dirais qu'il faut aller partout où les New Yorkais vont pour décompresser de leur semaine... les parcs, le pont de Brooklyn... Il y a aussi le gospel, mais j'ai les mêmes réserves que ton mari... 😉 (et je me suis tapé 6 mois de messe à l'église tous les dimanches avec ma famille américaine il y a des années, alors bon, je vois un peu le concept 😏)
J'aurais aussi voulu aller à Chinatown, vu les conseils de Vazyvite, mais pas faisable !

Oui le Little Italy "officiel" est réduit à peau de chagrin, apparemment celui du bronx est nettement mieux, beaucoup plus authentique. Je n'avais pas prévu d'aller dans le bronx, peut-être des appréhensions qui n'ont pas lieues d'être.... 😊

Je ne pense pas que tu risques grand chose. Figure-toi que j'y suis allée toute seule un samedi matin ! 😉 Du moment qu'on ne quitte pas les artères animées, il n'y a pas de raisons que l'endroit soit plus dangereux qu'un autre.
Mais il y a quelque chose d'intéressant à voir dans le Bronx ? Hormis le zoo, dont je n'ai strictement rien à faire. 😏
Perso, j'ai beaucoup aimé Little Italy ! Evidemment, j'y suis tombée au moment de la fête de San Gennaro, ça rajoute une petite touche locale 😏, mais je trouve que l'architecture est très belle, avec le Chrysler bldg et l'ESB qui se révèlent au loin au détour des rues... (et maintenant le WTC1 de l'autre côté je suppose).
Pour la météo... c'est très changeant là-bas donc on va croiser les doigts !! 🙂

J'avoue que pour ma part, je trouve qu'il y a tellement à faire à Manhattan même (et on va être sympa, sur les rives de Brooklyn... pour la vue sur Manhattan 😛) que je n'ai aucune envie d'aller explorer les autres boroughs. Et ce ne sont pas les émissions de télé que j'ai vues ou ce que j'en lis qui me font changer d'avis.

Mes 2 dernières fois là-bas, j'ai tenté Brooklyn (le tour en bus, j'avoue 😏), et rien ne m'a attirée. Cette année, je compte aller à Brooklyn Heights et au parc entre les deux ponts, but that's about it. 😏 Life's too short! 😏

Ca m'a pas traumatisé non plus 😛 On voit les mêmes maisons qu'à Greenwich ou Lower East Side je trouve.
Peut-être Willamsburg plutôt ( même si je connais pas ) si on traverse hormis Brooklyn Heights pour la vue et le pont.
En parlant de ça, j'ai relu le récit de ta deuxième visite, et j'avoue, j'étais morte de rire avec tes idées de suicide (surtout quand tu le remets à plus tard 😏).
J'ai bien aimé le Skyscraper Museum par contre, même si c'est petit, c'est vrai.

Il y a certainement d'autres endroits intéressants à voir dans le Bronx... mais quand on va à New York, on n'a pas beaucoup de temps pour s'éloigner un peu de Manhattan.

Il y a aussi un très grand parc (trois fois la taille de Central Park) : Pelham Bay Park (http://www.nycgovparks/pelhambaypark), juste à côté de City Island, d'ailleurs.

Sympa ce petit "village", Sabine ! Les parcs, bof. Je vais déjà essayer de faire Central Park, cette année. 😏 (l'année dernière, j'ai calé ça rapidos le matin du départ. Première fois que j'y allais 😏. Moi quand je vais en ville, c'est pour la ville. 😏) Et je note Shoegasm. 😎

Hello everyone! Really damaged due to flooding caused by runoff after forest fires (a total mess!), does anyone in this friendly forum have any updates on the Apache Trail between Apache Junction and Roosevelt Dam? Is there still a section of the road that’s tough to navigate?
We're leaving at the end of June and will be driving the route between Buffalo and Cody. We’ve already booked our accommodations and a rodeo in Cody, but during the day, we’ll be driving between the two and I’m unsure about the itinerary.
Which route do you think is the most pleasant, interesting, or scenic between:
- The northern route via Highway 14 with Sheridan, Lowell, etc.
- The southern route with Highways 16/20/14, passing by Loaf Mountain Overlook, Powder River Pass, Ten Sleep Canyon...
We’ll be in a car, so we should be able to drive on any road.

I’m almost done planning our September road trip. After our 3-night visit to Sequoia, we’ll have a stopover night in Coalinga (to break up the drive). We’ll be staying two nights in Monterey and would like to stop along the way to visit one side of Pinnacles National Park. We’re torn between the West entrance and the East entrance, and we’d like to do a short hike of no more than 2 hours since we don’t want to arrive too late in Monterey.
This park is split into two distinct zones with no connection between them, and the mileage from Coalinga to Monterey is pretty much the same for both. Which area do you recommend visiting—east or west? And which route is the most scenic?
I’ve spotted two short hikes:
- East: Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop
- West: Balconies Cliffs Cave Loop
Has anyone been there, or do you have another hike to suggest?

After our first trip as a young couple to the West in 2007 (yes, that doesn’t make us any younger!), we’re planning to go back in 2028, but this time as a family of four! (We have two boys who’ll be 5½ and 13 years old in the summer of 2028.)
Our plan is to combine a few big cities (SF and LA, maybe San Diego) with national parks and state parks, mostly!
Ideally, we’d like to leave at the end of June and head back to France around July 19–20, so we can enjoy the first week of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Since we already did the "loop" in 2007, there are must-see places we absolutely want to revisit—and especially share with our kids: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite, and above all, the Grand Canyon, which is still the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen on Earth!
On the other hand, some places didn’t leave a big impression on us for various reasons, so we’re not making them a priority: Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, for example.
We’re planning ahead, but might as well be smart about it😏
Do you have any tips for a fun and doable itinerary over about 20–25 days with kids, without rushing?

Just a quick question about King Canyon and Sequoia National Park.
Before our night in Miramonte, we plan to visit King Canyon. The next stop will be two nights in Three Rivers to explore Sequoia National Park. I wanted to go all the way to Roaring River Falls on the King Canyon Scenic Byway and then turn back to head to Miramonte. Since we’re coming from Oakhurst, Google Maps says it’s 300 km and 5 hours of driving. Since we also want to hike to see the sequoias (Big Stump Area and Grand Grove) before tackling the King Canyon Scenic Byway, the timing’s going to be tight. How far do you recommend going before turning back to miss as few points of interest as possible on the King Canyon Scenic Byway? Thanks for your advice, and have a great evening!

I’d like to travel along I-15N from San Diego to Las Vegas with my mom, who’s 67. We’ve explored Northern California and the California Coast over the past two years and now want to continue through the desert.
There are several attractions along the way:
- Mormon Rocks
- Desert Discovery Center and visit the Old Woman meteorite
- Joshua Tree National Park
- Mojave Desert
- Mojave National Preserve
- Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
- Silverwood Lake
My mom has back issues that prevent her from hiking or walking on trails with elevation changes. Is it possible to visit these places by car, or are the routes flat enough?
I’d love for her to experience the desert with an itinerary adapted to her condition. I’m also open to other points of interest that aren’t mentioned. We have 3-4 days for the trip, so we’re not in a rush—just want to explore.
I’d love to take a road trip and visit Nova Scotia. I’d appreciate some info on the best cities to see and the most interesting spots. The trip should last about 10 to 15 days, staying in hotels or motels. Thanks in advance!

**Viewpoints on the East Side:**
Are most of the viewpoints (Balancing Rock, Granite Cave, Bonsai Rock, etc.) right by the road, or do you have to hike to reach them?
**Donner Memorial State Park:**
Is it worth making a detour to Truckee to visit this park and the Truckee historic downtown?

I’m a total USA addict. I’ve already done several road trips, including the East Coast and West Coast.
I’m here today because I’m planning to go back for another road trip on the West Coast. Possibly with one of my sisters and a couple of friends. It’s still just a plan for now, but I’m working on an itinerary in the meantime. Ideally, I’d leave in 2026, but I don’t have the exact dates yet—maybe April-May or September-October.
My last trip to the West Coast was in September 2014. We went for 2 weeks, but this time it’d be 3 weeks. What made me want to go back was simply a colleague who just left today. As I’m writing this, he’s on the plane. I’m so happy for him, but now all I can think about is going back.
Since I recently went to NY, I noticed that prices have really gone up. I assume the same is true for the West Coast? For 2 people over 3 weeks, what budget should I expect? We’re the type to watch our spending and find great tips.
I think we’ll arrive in San Francisco like the first time and leave from either Los Angeles or Las Vegas.

I assume many of you already know, but the America the Beautiful annual pass, which was $80, will increase to $250 starting January 1, 2026.
So if you're planning to travel before the end of December 2026, it's in your best interest to buy your pass in December 2025, since it will still cost $80 and be valid until the end of December 2026 if you purchase it in December 2025.
This price increase only applies to non-U.S. residents.
Additionally, for those who planned to visit just one park, a $100 surcharge per person will apply to access a list of 11 national parks...
For example, if there are 4 of you in a car, you’ll have to pay $35 + $400,
which comes to $435 to visit one of the 11 parks on the list (I don’t have all of them... Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc.).
Total madness.
The goal is to push people who only visit one park into buying the annual pass.
Last point: free entry days are over for non-residents!

We just finished 9 days in the American West and wanted to share our experience because we had an amazing time.
I know some of you might ask, why use an agency? Honestly, we didn’t really feel like doing all the driving and planning, especially since we didn’t know the area at all. And since our English isn’t great, having French-speaking guides was a big comfort.
We found Emmanuelle and Isabelle, and wow, they were fantastic. It was just the two of us with them, so it was a truly VIP, ultra-personalized experience. They treated us like royalty from start to finish. These two live in Las Vegas and know the region like the back of their hand. The service was really personalized. They adapted to our pace and preferences, and we could stop whenever we wanted to take photos. It’s the luxury of being in a small private group—you’re not just a number on a big bus.
In short, we really felt like we were traveling with friends rather than professional guides. Everything’s included in the price (hotel pickup, meals, park entries, etc.), so the value for money is fair.
We loved it so much that we’re already planning to come back next year to explore other areas with them. I think we’ve caught the American West bug—it’s all we can think about, and we can’t wait to return.
