J'aimerais bénéficier de vos avis sur l'itinéraire que ma femme et moi projetons de faire, en train, dans le Rajasthan pendant 1 mois entre mi-octobre et mi-novembre.
Nous avons nos visas et sommes inscrit sur "cleartrip" pour réserver les billets de train.
Mais à l'heure de réserver, je me pose la question de savoir à quel point les retards de train peuvent influer sur l'itinéraire initial. Le risque de devoir re-planifier un itinéraire et racheter des billets est-il important?
J'aimerais également que vous m'aidiez à optimiser le planning initiale afin de pouvoir consacrer une journée supplémentaire à Benares.

Les retards de train sont la norme en Inde. Cela dit, la plupart du temps, ça n'influe pas sur l'itinéraire. Les retards de 1 à 2 heures sont très fréquents mais ne changent rien. Le pire qu'il me soit arrivé est un retard de 5/6 heures, mais ça m'est arrivé seulement deux fois sur plusieurs dizaines, et ça n'a pas changé beaucoup de chose, une après-midi de perdue tout au plus. Il y a peu de chance que ça vous arrive de toute façon.

C'est toujours très subjectif de répondre à ce genre de question. Mais pour ma part, je zapperais Bikaner et je prendrai directement un train de nuit entre Delhi et Jaisalmer. J'ai toujours trouvé que Bikaner avait un peu moins d'intérêt à côté des autres classiques du Rajasthan. Puis troquer Bikaner contre plus de temps à Varanasi, y a pas photo pour moi!
L'autre ville sur laquelle je pourrais faire l'impasse dans cette situation est Jaipur.
Comme l'indique Pagaljavab, le retard est la norme pour les trains en Inde, mais :
- ils partent à l'heure de leur gare d'origine,
- le retard est généralement réduit au début de son itinéraire, puis s'accentue au fur et à mesure de l'éloignement.
- sur les lignes les plus fréquentées, les retards se répercutent en cascade sur tous les autres, même si les "hauts-de-gamme" (par ex. Rajdani ou les trains Superfast) sont prioritaires en cas de problèmes sur la ligne.
- les bouts de lignes sont peu fréquentés, et les trajets sur ces segments ne sont alors impactés que par leur propre défaillance. Donc ces trains ne subissent que leur propre retard si cela arrive (rarement conséquent donc).
Ces préalables étant indiqués, je pense que plusieurs des trains indiqués ne subiront pas de retard conséquent. Ainsi ceux de Jaisalmer qui est une gare assez isolée.
De manière générale, consulter le site indiarailinfo.com pour les retards moyens constatés sur le trajet suivi. En cas de doute, accéder à la totalité du trajet suivi par le train. Plus il s'éloigne de sa gare d'origine, plus le retard risque d'être conséquent. Idéalement, il faudrait consulter indiarailinfo.com à la même époque que le voyage envisagé, donc 1 an avant, car la Mousson peut avoir un énorme impact sur les trajets.
Si je recommande le transport ferroviaire pour les longs trajets en Inde, ce n'est pas forcément une bonne idée sur les courts trajets desservis pas des autocars. Du fait des possibles retards, cela risque de doubler le temps pour arriver à destination. Voire plus.
Ainsi, je privilégierais l'autocar entre Udaipur et Chittorgarh. Autocars réguliers, donc pas vraiment de contrainte horaire pour les emprunter. Sans doute de même pour Chittorgarh à Bundi.
De Jaipur à Agra, je recommanderais aussi l'autocar, car il est alors possible de se faire déposer en chemin à l'embranchement de Fatehpur Sikri, de visiter l'ancienne cité palatiale moghole (inscrite au Patrimoine de l'Humanité), puis de rejoindre Agra en autocar local.
D'Agra à Varanasi, le train de nuit ne doit pas arriver avec beaucoup de retard s'il commence à Delhi. Pour la suite, valider sur indiarailinfo.com.
Comme l'indique Pagaljavab, le 3 jours réservés à Jaipur/Amber peuvent être réduits sans trop de regrets. Matinée pour Amber pour profiter de la belle lumière du soleil levant avec le spectacle des touristes à dos d'éléphant.

Quand j'écrivais "sans doute", c'était en pensant "probablement", ce qui aurait été mieux indiqué.
D'autant que le site web du RSRTC (compagnie de transport de l'Etat du Rajasthan) confirme les dires du Lonely Planet (pas toujours irréprochable).

Je viens de regarder sur indiarailinfo, et à ta place, je prendrais le train 29019 de 15h45, arrivée Bundi annoncée à 17h46. C'est un train express quotidien ne partant qu'à 3 gares de Chittorgarh, ce qui limite fortement le risque d'un retard conséquent. Les 3 dernières arrivées à Kota étaient dans les temps, et même en avance, d'après indiarailinfo (mais vitesse moyenne fantaisiste causée par une distance multipliée par 3 !).
Si tu veux passer la journée à Chittorgarh, tu peux aussi prendre le Mewar SF Express, en provenance d'Udaipur (pas trop loin, donc ponctuel), et partant à 20h50, arrivée à Bundi à 22h45.
autrement, est-ce qu'il y a un changement de bus à faire mais lequel ?
A mon avis, le plus naturel est alors de changer à Bijolya, sur la ligne Udaipur -> Kota, mais pas sûr que les horaires soient compatibles avec ton circuit. De plus, RSRTC ne présente pas de liaison Bijolya -> Bundi, peut-être desservie par des taxis collectifs sur ces 50 km.
En passant par Kota, il te faudra sans doute coucher à Kota.
Voir les horaires des autocars sur rsrtconline.rajasthan.gov.in/busenquiry. (demander l'affichage détaillé de la ligne car erreurs sur certains arrêts intermédiaires)
Le train me semble la meilleure solution entre Chittorgarh et Bundi.

Pas souvenir de beaucoup de magasins aux alentours. Par contre, un motel à moins de 50 m de la gare routière, dans la Bundi Road vers l'ouest.
Un repli possible s'il n'y a pas de consigne en gare routière (pas souvenir d'en avoir jamais essayé en Inde, par contre OK dans la plupart des gares ferroviaires citadines).

ok ! alors, je pourrai prendre un bus Udaïpur- Chittor, puis un rickwshaw qui me conduit à la gare des trains (consigne) , puis au fort pour la visite et me ramène à la gare pour le train de 15h45 vers Bundi , qu'en penses-tu ? combien pour le rickshaw 500, 700 ?

Si vous voyagez seule, je vous conseille de réserver vos trains de nuit sinon vous allez vous retrouver dans des wagons très rudimentaires, avec pas mal de promiscuité. C'est sympa pour des trajets courts mais pour y passer toute la nuit, qui plus est en tant que femme seule, je pense que la AC 2 ou 3 tier serait plus adaptée... mais pour y avoir de la place, il est préférable de réserver.
En un mois et demi, vous avez le temps de voir pas mal de lieux en Inde du nord.

Je crois tout de même qu'il va vous falloir faire un choix parmi vos destinations car les distances sont grandes en Inde et les temps de trajet très longs...

je n'ai pas trop envie de réserver à l'avance ni hôtel ni transport, je ne veux pas être obliger.

Pour les hôtels, c'est toujours ce que je fais, en Inde comme ailleurs. Sauf si je sais que je vais arriver trop tard, par ex. en milieu de nuit. Je ne l'ai ainsi fait qu'une unique fois, pour Delhi, arrivée vers 23h00 en toute fin de voyage, venant en train d'Agra.
Plus tôt on sollicite des hôtels, moins on a de risque à ce qu'ils soient tous pleins, sauf les plus chers. Ainsi, je me débrouille pour arriver dans le quartier sélectionné avant le coucher du soleil, de préférence avant 16h00. Ce principe reste valide un peu partout dans le monde.
Dans de très rares cas, j'ai un peu galéré avant de trouver un hébergement qui me convienne (localisation, prix, propreté, calme) :
- Gwalior aux abords de la gare ferroviaire.
- Tiruchirappali / Trichy aux abords de la gare routière.
- Vellore, cas très très particulier induit par le "tourisme" médical suscité par le Christian Medical College, mondialement réputé.
- Ahmedabad près du centre historique.
Même à Agra, j'avais trouvé une belle chambre proche de terrasse du restaurant, face au Taj Mahal, et pour un prix tout à fait raisonnable sans avoir trop à marchander. Mon "accompagnatrice" était satisfaite.
Une gène somme toute réduite sur un total de 14 semaines en Inde.
De même, je n'ai pas réservé le moindre transport en autocar en Inde, achetant le billet lorsque j'arrive. Seule exception, un taxi collectif Srinagar -> Kargil réservé la veille dans le courant de l'après-midi. Mon programme exigeait de prendre le tout premier taxi collectif au départ.
Par contre, pour les trains, je réservais tout dès que possible, quitte à faire des échanges ou annulations si nécessaires. Si l'annulation est réalisée plus de 48 h à l'avance, le coût induit reste très raisonnable (hors frais de paiement internationaux si via carte de crédit). A vérifier tout de même sur le site des chemins de fers indiens car cette politique peut avoir encore changé (forte augmentation constatée en 2014 ou 2015).
que me conseillez vous pour mes trajets en général.
En Inde, je recommande de recourir à l'autocar pour les trajets courtes et moyennes distances en évitant le transport de nuit (les chauffeurs sont sérieux, mais ils ne sont pas seuls sur la route).
Pour les transports longue-distance, le train me semble plus confortable, même en catégorie SL (Sleeper), quasiment la seule que j'ai utilisée. De plus, certaines étapes collent bien à des trains de nuit, ce qui évite de consommer du temps utile dans les transports (paysages d'un intérêt modeste). Par ex. Jodhpur -> Jaisalmer, et Jaisalmer -> Bikamer. Dans l'autre sens, je n'ai plus souvenir si les trains de nuit sont opportuns en terme d'horaires.
En cas de besoin critique, et à défaut d'autre alternative, il est envisageable de tenter de pénétrer un wagon de classe General, mais c'est généralement saturé, donc très très difficilement accessible, physiquement parlant. Même si j'ai eu quelques expériences agréables (par ex. sur le segment terminal desservant Khajuraho, car peu fréquenté), je ne l'envisagerai aucunement pour un trajet de nuit.

Dans l'esprit, cela tient la route, mais il faut définir les transports pour identifier clairement les temps disponibles pour visiter chaque ville / site.

déjà, je ne dors pas en bus. je serais donc obligée d'aller me coucher en arrivant si je voyage de nuit. en bus, de nuit, j'ai de mauvais souvenirs dû au manque de confort des bus.
et même si je voyageais de nuit en train, je ne serais pas rassurer pour dormir.
je privilégie le voyage durant la journée.
savez vous si je peux voyager de jour en bus sur tous les parcours que je vous ai défini?
ou si non en train sur ces mêmes parcours

Je ne me prononce pas pour Mandawa et pour Fatehpur que je ne connais pas. Pour le reste, l'autocar sera toujours possible mais pas forcément direct. Ainsi à mon avis entre Udaipur et Bundi, et entre Bundi et Ajmer.
Au sein du Rajasthan, rechercher le site web de la compagnie publique de transport, la RTC ou la RTDC, ma mémoire me fait défaut.

So here’s my question: Given that several of our trips fall during or around festivals, will it be possible to book bus/train tickets once we’re there, or is there a risk they’ll already be sold out? Specifically for Seoul-Andong, Busan-Jinju, and Jinju-Suwon.
I was thinking of booking everything on our first day in Seoul.
And if it’s better to plan ahead, how should we go about it? I can’t seem to access the Korail (letskorail) or Kobus websites.

I’m planning a family trip in a year. Our goal: traveling to China (and maybe Hong Kong) by train.
I’m all set with the route up to eastern Turkey.
However, I’m just starting my research for the rest of the journey—namely the Caucasus (no trains as far as I know, so buses and/or ferries), then Central Asia and China.
So, I’d love to hear any info or tips (general and forward-looking at this stage) about the train route through Central Asia and China to reach the east coast.
I’m particularly interested in details on:
- How far in advance to book / any potential difficulties with reservations
- Whether there are PASS systems (or equivalent) between countries and/or if some tickets allow stopovers, meaning you can hop on and off as you please
- Day trains vs. night trains (the latter option lets you explore cities between two legs of the journey)

Tokyo - Hakone
Hakone - Kyoto
Kyoto - Osaka

a) Is it possible to buy train tickets for these segments from Canada?
b) If so, which website should I use to do this?
c) And if it is possible, will we be able to print our tickets from Canada?

Hi everyone, I wanted to take the Paris-Berlin overnight train with a sleeper berth, the new service operated by European Sleepers.
24/05/2026 17:45 Paris-Nord (actually 16:00 from Paris Bercy Seine) -> 25/05/2026 9:59 (actually 7:30 in Berlin)
05/06/2026 18:31 Berlin (actually 20:00) -> 06/06/2026 10:00 Paris Nord (actually 12:30)
Part of the journey was operated by bus instead of the promised overnight train.
For 2 people: 340 € round trip
A total disaster. Never again. I was really looking forward to taking the overnight train, but we faced last-minute changes and truly unpleasant travel conditions. Here are the details:
1) 2 days before departure: email announcing a change of departure station for the outbound trip—Bercy Seine bus station instead of Gare du Nord.
2) Change of schedule: 4:00 PM from Bercy instead of 5:45 PM from Gare du Nord.
3) Change of transport mode!! A bus from Paris to Brussels, then an overnight train from Brussels to Berlin. No functional toilets on the bus. No children under 4 allowed on the bus.
4) On the sleeper train at 9:30 PM: no functional toilets in our carriage, so we had to go to other carriages, even in the middle of the night, to find working ones.
5) The onboard staff, though very friendly, were as lost as we were. In particular, they didn’t know how to handle the lower berths, so people using them had less space (armrests and backrests). Berth numbers weren’t respected, so some passengers had to move. The staff also didn’t know who was supposed to join the compartment during the journey.
6) Arrival at 7:30 AM in Berlin instead of 10:00 AM. No arrival announcement. Passengers had to search for staff to get breakfast and ended up with just a coffee (breakfast = 15 €, not bad for just a coffee).
7) Return trip: drastic schedule change announced by email on 26/05/2026—departure at 7:30 PM instead of 6:30 PM, with arrival between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM in Paris instead of 10:00 AM. No change in transport mode announced.
8) Change in transport mode announced by email on the same day (05/06/2026)!! Overnight train from Brussels to Berlin, then a bus from Paris to Brussels. No functional toilets on the bus. Children under 4 banned from the bus, and families in this situation were asked to find another way—after being notified the same day.
9) The overnight train arrived at Berlin station with a 30-minute delay on top of its initial delay (scheduled for 6:31 PM, then 7:30 PM, finally arriving at 8:00 PM). The heating was blasting in the compartment with no way to turn it off. No functional toilets in the carriage. From that point on, customer service stopped responding to my messages.
10) Woken up at 5:00 AM with an announcement in all carriages about arrival in Liège.
11) Woken up again at 6:00 AM to be told we’d arrive in Brussels at 7:00 AM.
12) Arrival in Brussels at 7:00 AM and a one-hour wait for the bus to Paris. No functional toilets on the bus.
13) Arrival at Paris Nord at 12:30 PM, so 2.5 hours late compared to the originally scheduled time.
14) The overnight trains used are very old—I recognized the carriages from 20 years ago!! No functional power outlets, no Wi-Fi, no air conditioning. Five people per compartment is a bit cramped, but I consider these conditions expected (especially the air conditioning), so I’m not complaining about that. There’s already plenty to gripe about with the travel conditions.
I have little hope of getting even a partial refund. Customer service emails acknowledge the discomfort but only offer to reimburse the cost of a coffee on board if we send them the receipt... a bit weak.

Tomorrow afternoon, I arrive at Lyon Part-Dieu on the TGV at 5:50 PM and take the TER to Mâcon at 6:16 PM. Is a 26-minute transfer doable? Are the TGV and TER on the same departure board? And are they on the same platforms too?
I’ve been to Lyon before but never had to make a connection after arriving.

I just realized there’s only one payment method accepted for booking the Mombasa-Nairobi express train ticket online: M-Pesa, a mobile money transfer service used in Africa. Would it be impossible to book as a European?
I’d love to know if any of you have recently eaten on the overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.
We’ve always ordered food on the train, and it was really good (and super convenient).
But in 2022, we ended up feeling like total idiots (with our 4-year-old daughter...) when we boarded the train only to find out that this service was no longer available... (It was the first time we’d traveled right after COVID.)
That’s also when we saw once again how kind Thai people are—they all offered to share their food with us, even though we were mortified. In the end, we managed to buy some instant noodles, which was better than nothing. Anyway, that’s the little story behind it.
In the following years, we’ve always brought our own meals.
I’ve read online that meal trays are back in service (could you confirm this, please?), but that the quality is really poor. I’ve also seen multiple reports that, even though you can eat well everywhere in Thailand, the train meal was the worst food travelers had during their trip...
Could you give me a recent opinion on this?
We’ll be departing from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Station—do you know if there’s anywhere to buy a meal there before boarding the train?
