je viens de réserver des billets pour l'afrique du sud à la Toussaint.
Il est très tard pour réserver au Kruger, j'aurais bien besoin d'un coup de main!
Je copie colle mon message sur le forum du routard où je n'ai pas reçu beaucoup de réponses.
J'arrive lundi 21 octobre à Johannesburg à 8h30. Je compte prendre le premier vol pour Cape Town et aller à Table mountain.
Mardi 22: cap de bonne espérance et plage avec les manchots, 2e nuit à cape Town
Mercredi 23 et jeudi 24: Hermanus et nuits à De Kelders en espérant voir plein de baleines.
Vendredi 25: vol Cape Town Johannesburg, c'est là que ça se corse.
Option 1
Vendredi 25 vol cape town johannesburg, nuit blyde river
Samedi 26: visite pilgrim le matin, nuit Olifants ou Satara
Dimanche 27: nuit Orpen
Lundi 28 nuit Skukuza
Mardi 29: pas de place à Lower Sabie, donc soit je reste à Skukuza, soit je vais Biyamti, berg en dal ou Pretoriuskop
Mercredi 30: dernière journee au Kruger, nuit au Sud du parc
Jeudi 31: retour Johannesburg, vol à 22h30. Passage express Swaziland?
Option 2
vendredi 25: vol cape town johannesburg, nuit Swaziland ou proche parc
samedi 26: kruger, nuit Lower Sabie (dispo)
dimanche 27: nuit Skukuza

I’m in the middle of planning our trip/safari to Kruger in October:
- 2 nights in the Manyeleti private reserve (Honeyguide Montobeni)
- 2 nights in Kruger for a self-drive safari (which reserve, or where to stay?)
- 1 night at Blyde River Canyon (where?)
- 2 nights in the Balule private reserve (Imagine Africa Luxury)
Then heading to CAPE TOWN.
So as you’ve probably guessed, I’m not sure:
- where to stay for the BRC and need lodge names
- coming from Manyeleti and heading to the BRC, which strategic spot in greater Kruger to choose (I was thinking Satara, not too far) but couldn’t find any available places for October on Sandparc
- and which domestic flight destination for Manyeleti from JNB (Hoedspruit?) to arrive at Orpen Gate,
- And same question for which airport to fly out to Cape Town after Balule.

Après ma première dans le Kruger, voilà ce que j'aurais tout simplement aimé savoir pour mon organisation :
Comme tous, j'ai parcouru divers forums afin d'avoir des avis croisés, ce qui n'est pas une sinécure, bon nombre ont tendance à développer leurs propres appréciations, de même que ces avis se transforment parfois en pugilats écrits, toutefois je me dois de remercier les personnes qui ont pris la peine de me donner des avis pertinents, donc :
Tout d’abord, j'ai cherché à comprendre comment fonctionne le système du parc, puisqu'il ne s'agit pas d'un zoo, mais d'une véritable randonnée à travers la brousse...
Le parc est divisé en plusieurs camps, comme on peut le consulter sur leur site Pour un court séjour (mini 2 jours un seul camp), l'idéal 4 à 5 jours, 2 camps est suffisant pour en profiter un max
La circulation dans le parc est très très bien signalisée, la route est parfaite et les pistes tout à fait roulantes même si parfois il y a de la « tôle ondulée » (idéale pour les amateurs d'Orangina)
Dans les camps, il y a plusieurs types d'hébergement, cela va du camping au confortable bungalow, avec clim, frigo, sdb, cuisine, etc...les tarifs et résa sont sur le site sandparc, par contre les réservations sont à faire le plus tôt possible, car elles partent très vite... !
Dans tous les camps il y a une station carburant (ainsi qu'aux portes d'entrées du parc), on y trouve une boutique avec des babioles souvenir et de quoi se nourrir, (excellente bière et vins sudaf) un restaurant, sympa pour le breakfast et les autres repas avec des tarifs très abordables, dans les plus grands camps un point wifi au resto (voire même un DAB à Skukuza) la carte bancaire est acceptée partout sans souci particulier (perso, j'aime bien avoir du liquide pour me achats)
Sur Maps j'ai situé la position géographique du parc par rapport à l'aéroport de Johannesburg (JNB) au vu de la distance et selon l’horaire d'arrivée, mieux vaut prévoir un hôtel entre les 2 (A/R)
J'avais réglé toutes mes réservations à l'avance (bungalows, entrées du parc (une par journée et par personne) les 2 hôtels A/R, la location de la voiture +le gps, (utile surtout pour trouver les hôtels) tout cela nous a fait gagner énormément de temps partout....
En arrivant à JNB,
1-j'ai pris aussitôt une carte SIM pour la semaine chez vodafone, (364zar 22€50) à droite dès l'entrée du hall,
2-ensuite en repartant vers le centre, il y a des bureaux de change, et un DAB où j'ai retiré de l'argent
3-je suis allé au bureau avis prendre ma voiture
Pour info, il y a un semblant de portier à la sortie de l'aéroport coté rentalcar, qui m'a demandé ou j'allais, j'ai répondu avis, aussitôt il a hélé un gus qui est sorti de nul part et m'a dit de le suivre, j'avais compris le truc, le même partout en Afrique, j'ai eu beau lui dire de me foutre la paix, rien à faire, il m'a escorté jusqu'à chez avis soit à 2 pas de la sortie, et a exigé que je lui donne de la monnaie, j'ai réussi péniblement à m'en débarrasser pour retomber par la suite sur un autre qui s'est installé dans la voiture pour me programmer le gps et me renseigner de tout, j'ignore si il était de la maison ou pas, mais il a été récompensé autant que l'autre (je ne suis pas radin, mais le dab ne donne pas de monnaie)
Une fois assis dans la voiture, la 1ère véritable étape était enfin bouclée....(ouf!)
Important, en sortant du parking souterrain, il faut suivre la direction Boksburg fléchée au sol et sur les panneaux, pas évident, parce que les voies se croisent de façon rapprochée, ensuite la route est simple sauf que les conducteurs sont encore plus dangereux que les buffles du parc. Pour ce qui est de la vitesse, notre « Louis Philippe » national s'arracherait les cheveux avec ses 80 km/h, surtout quand on voit un panneau 120 (radar!) sur une section à voie unique et double sens ….. !!!
Pour le retour de la voiture, le plein devant être fait , il y a une station juste à la sortie (!) du parking, celle la même que l'on prend au départ, heureusement il y a une voie de retour vers l'aéroport
Avis est très bien organisé, avec le fléchage dans le parking souterrain, un placeur vous attend, aussitôt stoppé une personne vient faire l'état du véhicule et se charge de la voiture.... Fin du séjour....

Nous partons mi février avec nos 2 ados (pas vraiment enchantés à priori, j'espère que cela changera sur place😛)
Nous commençons par le cap 4 nuits, puis remontons en vol interne sur Joburg pour le kruger et Blyde.
nos Camps dans le kruger sont : -Berg en dal le 1er soir, mais l'arrivée risque d'être vers la fin d'aprem vu que notre avion atterrit à Joburg à 11h10. -Lower sabie 1 nuit le lendemain -Puis on va faire un tour sur Blyde 2 nuits et retour sur le Kruger (conseil d’Attila de faire une pause hors du parc notamment pour les ados😛 .....) -satara 2 nuits -Olifants 1 nuit puis retour de bonne heure pour reprendre notre vol qui décolle à 23h30 de joburg.
Ma question vous qui connaissez les rest camps : Que me conseillez vous en plus de nos propres sorties ? En walk ou drive avec les rangers, matin ou soir, et à partir de quel rest camp?

Is it better to go during the first half of October, the second half (or the middle 😏), or does the current unpredictable weather make it all pretty much the same in the end?

I was thinking of continuing the questions from my first post, but since the title was changed... I’m starting a new thread
The plane should land on Saturday around 11 AM. After collecting luggage and the car, I think we’ll leave the airport between 1 and 2 PM. Question #1: Where should we stop along the way, allowing some buffer time so we don’t end up driving at night if the flight is delayed? (The idea isn’t to sightsee but just to take a break while making progress toward Kruger.)
We’ll spend part of Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (a little over 4 days) in Kruger. Questions #2 and beyond: What route should we take? I’ve considered two options: either enter from the south (Malelane Gate?) and head north up to the Olifants area to exit at Orpen Gate. How many accommodations should we book in this case, and where? Or enter at Orpen Gate and exit near Hazyview (or the other way around, and near Hazyview, should it be Paul Kruger Gate or Phabeni?). In this case, it would allow us to spend 2 nights in one place and 2 in another, but we’d skip the south (or is it possible to visit it in a day?) Well, for accommodations (accessible by sedan), all suggestions are welcome… but I’ve checked October availability, and there aren’t many left 😕 I plan to spend Thursday in the park and exit before it closes to sleep outside, which would save time the next day for the drive to the airport. I was thinking of Hazyview (again, no sightseeing since we already visited the area in 2009), but do you have another/better idea?

Après avoir écumé moult pages de ce forum je voulais avoir votre ressenti sur mon itinéraire de voyage en Afrique du Sud. Nous avons décidé de partir en dernière minute et nous atterrirons jeudi matin prochain à Johannesburg et re-décollerons du Cap le samedi 14 au soir soit 17 jours sur place.
Nous avons envie de nature et de montagnes. N'étant pas forcément particulièrement attirés par les animaux, nous avions au départ décidé d'opter pour le Maputaland plutôt que Kruger et Blyde mais finalement nous avons décidé qu'il serait quand même dommage d'aller en Afrique du Sud sans faire une virée au Kruger ... (et puis Blyde a l'air incroyable aussi !).
Voici l'itinéraire prévu : voyez-vous des choses à modifier ?
J1 : Arrivée à Johannesburg à 11h30 - visite du Musée de l'apartheid l'après-midi
J2 : Décollage pour Skukuza - location de voiture - nuit au Kruger (où ? Lower Sabie déjà complet, Berg en Dal ?)
J3 : Kruger : Nuit 2 (quel deuxième camp ? Je voulais aller à Olifants mais c'est 10h de trajet du coup impossible sur une journée du coup je ne sais pas pour quel point de chute opter)
J4 - J5 : Blyde : 2 nuits à Her en Dal, marche dans le canyon
J6 : Trajet en voiture de Blyde au Royal Natal (cela se fait bien en une journée ?)
J7 - J10 : Drakensberg : 2 nuits au Royal Natal puis vers le Sud (Sani Pass par exemple)
J11 - J17 : Virée au Cap et proximité (Cape Town, Table Mountain, Cap de Bonne espérances, 2J de vignobles, peut-être Overberg ...)
J18 : Retour tristesse et grisaille
J'ai encore quelques doutes sur la première partie du périple sur lesquels je serais ravi d'avoir des lumières :
* pour le Kruger, où passeriez-vous vos deux nuits en atterrissant à Skukuza ? (sachant que Lower Sabie pas dispo sur la période) Au même endroits ? Deux endroits différents ?
* avez-vous des conseils sur la meilleure manière de relier Blyde au Drakensberg ? De ce que j'ai compris le trajet est long env. 7h de voiture voire plus, particulièrement ennuyeux avec peu de points d'arrêt entre les deux destinations et il n'y a pas non plus de vol direct ...
* Auriez-vous des recommandations pour les points du chute et hébergements pour nos 5 jours au Drakensberg ?
Un grand merci par avance pour votre aide et n'hésitez pas à me dire si certains points ne sont pas clairs ou vous semblent mal goupillés ... !

What’s the best route between Kosy Bay and the southern part of Kruger Park?
Is the Mozambique route via Maputo a good option?
What are the formalities for crossing into Mozambique?
Is the Kosy Bay area worth a detour?
We’ll be entering Kruger from the south for 4 days. Any recommendations for routes/campsites? Lower Sabie, Satara?
Do we really need to book accommodations in Kruger in February? And what about safaris?

Et voilà...
Nous voilà repartis sur un nouveau voyage en perspective auquel on a pas pu résister. En effet, Qatar Airways avait lancé une offre de 10 000 billets gratuits (juste les taxes à payer) pour les soignants (je suis infirmière)
On n’a hélas pas réussi à avoir un code promotionnel mais quelques semaines plus tard on a reçu un code promotionnel à 50% et on a saisi l opportunité.
Sur le fil du rasoir, on a réussi à avoir deux billets aller retour et on s est décidé pour 15 jours dans la région du cap en Afrique du Sud du 16 au 30 novembre.
Il y a évidemment un risque d annulation si COVID-19 mais les billets seront alors reportés.
On part donc sur un road-trip en 4x4 avec matériel de camping pour alterner nuits en camping et hôtel. On va se concentrer sur la région du Sud et je suis donc preneuse de vos lumières...

It's been a year since I've been longing for South Africa. Our first trip in August 2025 amazed us, and—rarely—it was a unanimous hit with our little family! We were touched to the core, and from the moment we got home, we couldn’t stop talking about going back. 😄
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who gave me advice on the itinerary for that first trip (Johannesburg loop: Blyde, Kruger, Eswatini, St. Lucia, Durban, Drakensberg)! Thanks to you, our trip went like a dream!
Since then, I haven’t stopped reading articles and discussions on VoyageForum to keep my head in South Africa a little longer!
So, we finally caved and just booked our tickets for January 2027 (from the 3rd to the 26th), with a plan to do a road trip from Cape Town to Johannesburg in about 3 weeks.
I’ve got a rough itinerary that seems great based on what I’ve read on various forums, but there are still some uncertain points, and that’s where I could use your advice.
3/01: Arrival in Johannesburg at 11:45 PM 4/01: Flight to Cape Town, pick up rental car. Afternoon sightseeing 5,6,7/01: Cape Town to visit the big classics in the area (any tips for finding accommodation: which neighborhood, a specific place?) 8/01: Overnight stop before Oudtshoorn—but where??? (Is it essential, or is the CT-Oudtshoorn drive manageable? If so, I’d gain a day in Oudtshoorn. Google Maps shows over 5 hours of driving...) 9,10/01: Oudtshoorn (or would 3 nights be better to really enjoy the area?) 11,12/01: Knysna, Plettenberg Bay (to have time for hiking—if you’ve got hiking tips, I’m all ears!) 13,14/01: Tsitsikamma (still to have time for hiking—who knows the must-do hikes in the area? But maybe 4 nights in the Knysna-Tsitsikamma area is too much—I’m not sure) 16,17/01: Addo Elephant (I’m torn between 3 nights at Addo or 3 nights at Mountain Zebra. Based on travel journals, especially Michel’s on MZ, I’ve scheduled 3 nights at MZ 😄...) 18,19,20/01: Mountain Zebra NP 21/01: Camdeboo NP (because it looks so beautiful!) 22/01: Overnight stop (where?) before wrapping up the trip with either 2 or 3 nights at Golden Gate NP or the Lesotho option, which appeals to me, but I don’t know if it’s doable in 3 days to be back in Johannesburg by the afternoon of the 26th.
That’s my trip idea for now... I’m eagerly waiting for your advice, ideas, and comments... Can’t wait to be back there again!

Je suis en pleine organisation de mon futur voyage en Afrique du Sud pour 2 semaines a partir de mi juin. Nous sommes 5 personnes, ma femmes, moi et les enfants de 20ans, 15ans et 13ans.
Programme : arrivée Johannesburg, location voiture direction blyde river pour 2 nuits puis parc national Kruger 4 jours ( quel sont les meilleurs camps ?) Puis Swaziland, et je pense aussi faire le cap pour quelques jours.

D1 to D4: Cape Town and Cape of Good Hope (Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, Waterfront, Bo-Kaap, Boulders, Cape Point, Chapman’s Peak Drive). I’ve spotted a few places to stay between Camps Bay and Hout Bay (3 nights). D5 and D6: Either Karoo NP or Hermanus and De Hoop. Any opinions to tip the scales? I’ll admit I’m already leaning toward Karoo (the "wild" vibe of the landscapes and wildlife encounters appeal to me much more than the seaside, which feels less exotic). If we go for Karoo, where should we stay? Inside the park or in Beaufort West? I’ve seen good reviews for Ko-ka Tsara Bush Camp, but maybe it’s better to stay in the Sanparks cottages to make the most of the park? (2 nights) Option B is to do Stellenbosch (though vineyards aren’t great in winter) and/or the Whale Route—Betty’s Bay, Hermanus, De Hoop (2 nights near Gansbaai). D7 and D8: Klein Karoo, Oudtshoorn. Staying at De Cango Guest Farm (2 nights). D9 and D10: Knysna, Robberg Nature Reserve, Tsitsikamma (2 nights in Plettenberg Bay and 1 night in PE). D11: Flight from Port Elizabeth to Joburg at 7 AM and drive to Marloth Park.
For Kruger, I’ve booked 2 nights in Marloth Park, 1 night in Skukuza, 2 nights in Satara, and 1 night in Talamati, which we loved. I’ll book the last night in Graskop later since we want to revisit the Blyde Canyon area.

Hi everyone, I’m here to get some advice on visiting KRUGER Park.
From what I’ve gathered through my reading, I understand there are two ways to visit the park:
- Independently with your own vehicle
=> Do you drive all day?
- By booking with a professional
=> Safari early in the morning and late in the afternoon. But what do you do in between?
When it comes to accommodations, the options are: - Booking in one of the park’s camps, where the lodging is basic but functional - Booking in a private reserve, which is more comfortable but prohibitively expensive - Booking outside the park, which means entering the park every morning. But if you want to stay for 3 days, that doesn’t seem practical to me. Do you have any advice for accommodations?

For those who’ve been following me... progress is being made!
Anyway, just to recap for the others: I’m leaving Manyeleti (a private reserve) to do a self-drive safari in the main Kruger Park for 2 nights before heading to Blyde River Canyon (sharing all this so you can picture the route). So Satara seemed like a good base for the safari, except that you can only book accommodation in this non-private park through Sandparks to find a camp. Since Satara is fully booked, the only ones with availability for my dates are:
Tamboti, Olifants, and Satara—wait, no, Satara’s full—so Letaba, sorry! Any thoughts on these camps?
Because I can enter via Orpen and drive north (safari-style), which would let us explore, but:
1/ Too many km if we pick the farthest one, Letaba?
If I leave Manyeleti (Honeyguide Mantobeni) after the morning safari, what time do I need to be at the camp by?

tout d'abord, selon vous, votre expérience, est ce une bonne période ?
Nous aurons visiter la Namibie en juillet, mais sommes très attirés par le côté safari en ce moment.
nous envisagons d'attérir à Johansbourg, de passer 3 nuits dans la région de Blyde canyon ( je crois que la route y menant est sympa, cascades, grotte à visiter ?! ), nous aimerions aussi y faire qq randos si possible?!
puis 2 nuits dans le parc kruger ( ou 3 ! )
et enfin 2 nuits dans la réserve privé de Sabi ( ou 3 ! ).
je ne voulais pas trop me précipiter, mais en budgettant mon projet, je m'aperçois qu'il y a DEJA très peu de place dans la réserve privée de Sabi, et que si nous osuhaitons y dormir il faudrait réserver dès maintenant ...
du coup, avez vous eu la chance d'y être allés? que pensez vous du choix de notre itinéraire ? serons nous déçus par rapport à Etosha en juillet ?

Notre objectif est prioritairement de profiter du parc Kruger et des golfs. Nous pensons partir de Bordeaux le 09 sept 2020 pour atterrir a JNB le 10. nous repartirons le 28 sept de JNB retour bordeaux
1- le voyage : je trouve des vols BOR - JNB pour 820 € pour deux personnes en A/R avec 1 valise soute et le transport de nos clubs de golf gratuit. durée du vol environ 14h avec escale a CDG. pensez vous qu en attendant un peu nous pourrons trouver de meilleurs offres ?
2 - notre périple location de voiture sur l ensemble du séjour, si vous avez une adresse pour louer en toute sécurité a prix discount je suis preneur
a- arrivée a Jobur le 10/09. Nous pensons rester 4 jours afin de découvrir la ville + Pretoria + soweto. nous recherchons un airbnb un peu classe (piscine, parking etc) proche du centre de JNB. avez vous un quartier a me préconiser ? ou encore mieux une adresse ? je pense que nous utiliserons les bus rouge (type anglais) pour faire un tour de la ville puis une visite avec un guide français pour soweto (si vous avez un bon plan je suis preneur).
b- kruger sur 8 jours en réservant sur le site national du kruger 4 camps. Nous entrerons par Punda Maria, Olifan, Satara, Lower sabie. 2 jours sur chaque camps qui sont dotés d une piscine, restau et superette. l idée et d aller du nord au sud en ayant du temps et de profiter sans être pressé. nous prendrions les bungalows 2 personnes. si vous connaissez pouvez vous me dire si c est propre, agréable etc.
c- région de leopard creek, Nelspruit 5 nuits ou nous cumulerons les paysages+ golf. Je recherche un airbnb de qualité permettant de passer ces 6 jours de façon confortable.
d- retour pour 2 nuits a JNB pour du golf exclusivement
notre budget a cette heure pour 6 golfs 2 personnes est de 4000 € hors repas. je recherche des logements sur JNB et Leopard Creeks entre 50 et 100 € par nuit pour 2 personnes.
enfin si vous avez des idées de visites je suis preneur. Nous avons fait le choix de ne pas aller au cap afin de limiter les transports aériens, temps perdu aux aéroports et profiter du golf. Le cap et la région sud de l ADS fera l objet d autres vacances.

Nous avons planché pendant des semaines sur l'Australie mais finalement, vu les circonstances, ce sera l'Afrique du Sud que nous préparons un peu dans la précipitation et nous avons donc besoin de votre aide car les jours passent très vite... Nous serons en 4x4 avec tente sur le toit (mais nous logerons parfois en hébergement en dur) ; nous sommes un couple orienté randonnée quand c'est possible.

Je suis un néophyte du continent africain.
Avec mon épouse nous avon 15 jours de congés fin janvier. On ne savait pas Trop où partir et en voyant des prix interessants pour Johannesburg je me dis pourquoi pas ....
Mais déjà le premier hic.., le temps j ai lu que c etait la saison des pluies et que ce n etait pas forcément la meilleur période...du coup si vous avez des expériences à cette période je suis tout ouie.
Du coup sur 12 jours, on se ferait tranquillement Johannesburg, Pretoria, le Kruger et éventuellement le pilansberg. On peut se deplacer en bus ou train ou faut il louer une voiture? D apres ce que j ai compris le parc kruger peut se faire en solo....ca se fait bien?

We’re back from our 3-week trip to South Africa in July. It was a family trip with our four grown-up kids (ages 18 to 25).
First off, I’d like to thank everyone on this forum for their great tips—they really helped us plan this trip!
The trip: We spent 15 days between Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, then a week around Kruger (including Blyde River Canyon). We found South Africans to be welcoming and always ready to help. We never felt unsafe (just followed basic safety rules). The police are very visible, especially on the roads.
Logistics: We’d booked our accommodations in advance but made a few changes on the spot based on how we felt at the time. We rented two vehicles from Firefly (Hertz). No complaints—recent cars, quick returns, and the deposit wasn’t charged. We’d gotten our international driver’s permits... which stayed in France! Luckily, no one asked for them. Driving on the left wasn’t an issue (it wasn’t our first time). The roads we took were in good, even great, condition. Only a few tracks to lodges or parks were rough and required extra caution. Lots of pedestrians on the sides of roads, even highways. And plenty of very slow trucks. But they pull over to let you pass. It’s also common for cars to cross into the opposite lane to overtake, even with white lines. We took two domestic flights: one early in the morning (Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth) and one in the late afternoon (Cape Town to Johannesburg) to save time.
We had some highlights and a few disappointments—all part of the journey! More details coming soon.

Hi everyone, has anyone been to Shingwezi Camp in the northern part of Kruger Park? I read on the SanParks website that the drive from Phalaborwa Gate to Shingwezi Camp takes 12 hours🤯. Can anyone confirm this? When I check Google Maps, it shows a 5-hour trip?? Thanks for your replies 😅

(sur leur site, ils disent bien qu'un 4X4 serait préférable)

First question: We're leaving Kruger Park from Olifants camp to head to BRC.
I know the drive is long (about 4 hours, especially since I think the part through the park will be slow due to animals). We're exiting the park via Phalaborwa Gate, but I can't find a map, so it's hard to tell if we'll arrive at the top of the Canyon or via Graskop to then drive up the Panorama Route.
Second question: I booked 1 night at Forever Resort, but if we arrive from the top and then drive down the Panorama Route, I'm not sure that's the best choice.
Third question: Since we're leaving Kruger early in the morning, I think we can plan to explore the area in the afternoon. We'll sleep there, and then we need to be at our lodge in the Balule private reserve by late morning (Imagine Africa) to catch the afternoon safari. I'm worried it might be too short if we want to do a boat trip on the dam! What do you think? Should I add another night? It's still possible since I haven't planned the rest yet, and we have 7 nights left in Cape Town, including Hermanus! Do you think I should cut short the Cape Town stay? If so, I could break the BRC trip into two parts—one night after leaving Kruger before the private safari, and then come back this way (since it's not too far, I think) after the two nights on safari before heading to Cape Town. But how can I organize the visits logically?
I can already hear Michel telling me I'm overcomplicating things!! 😉

For her 70th birthday, my mom will receive—as a gift—a trip to South Africa at the end of May 2025. We’ll arrive and depart (13 nights later) from JNB on Air France AF990/AF995. We’ll obviously rent a car for certain parts of the trip. I’ve been to the Cape Town area and as far as Agulhas twice, but she’s never been to South Africa before. She might enjoy a day or two of safari, but it’s not a priority for her. I’m well aware that trying to pack in too much is risky, which is why I’m looking for your advice on itineraries, safety, and health (status of the Marburg virus). So far, which combinations of these visits (in no particular order) would be doable and most enjoyable for her at a reasonable pace:
1-day excursion to Pilanesberg Park (+ Hartbeespoort on the way back if possible), self-drive or with a tour guide? 2 nights around the Panorama Route self-driving Garden Route from/to George/PLZ for 5 nights (what are the must-sees for a first-timer with so little time?) Wine region for 2 nights (is it worth doing both the Stellenbosch bus tour and the Franschhoek Wine Tram the next day, or vice versa)—she loves good wine! Cape Town for 2 nights (is it worth stopping at the Cape of Good Hope if—only if—you’ve maybe already been to Agulhas?).
This would give a final itinerary like this:

Pour profiter plus longtemps, nous pensions partir de mi-juillet à début août ( 3 semaines). L'idée serait de traverser le Kruger du nord au sud, de descendre jusqu'à Sainte-Lucie. En avril nous avions fait graskop, Blyde canyon, kruger, shewula mountain camp, hlane et Mlilwane.
Auriez-vous une idée d'itinéraire sympa avec des randonnées faciles, j'avais aussi pensé au Drakensberg mais j'ai peur qu'il fasse trop froid. Merci d'avance pour vos précieux conseils :)

After going through a good chunk of the forum and travel journals about South Africa, I think my itinerary is ready...
I’ve planned 2 days with long drives to minimize time spent outside the parks. These are Sunday the 18th: Johannesburg Airport to Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Reserve, and Friday the 23rd: St. Lucia to Nelspruit (staying in South Africa) or as close as possible to visit the Canyon the next day.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the itinerary, especially these 2 days—are they doable or not? Should I book in advance, or will there be places to sleep along the way if we don’t make it to our planned destination? What’s the crowd level in South Africa in October?
As for Kruger, I’ve chosen campsites with camping facilities, prioritizing the "satellite" camps, at least in the northern part!! I’ve planned to change camps almost every day to combine travel and wildlife spotting, but is this the right choice?

Troisième road trip en 4X4 en préparation pour Août, après 2007 et 2012 . Arrivée en milieu de journée a JNB le 29/07, pour plus de confort nuit sur place. Je pense attaquer directement par le KTP pour 4/5 jours que l'on adore, avec si possible deux nuits en satellite camp, souvenir d'une expérience inoubliable à Garaghab. C'est là que ça se complique, on aimerais bien aller faire un tour en Namibie ou au Botswana avant de finir par le Kruger pour encore 5/6 jours. Vol retour le 13/08 au départ de JNB.

je suis en train de construire mon circuit d'une bonne quinzaine de jours en afrique du sud et je n'arrive pas à boucler sans faire énormement de route...on veut évidemment faire un max mais le passage par le swaziland est-il incontournable??
vaut-il mieux faire des réserves privées? addo elephants est-il à faire ou redondant avec Kruger?
santa lucia?? ressent-on l'insécurité partout?
