Bonjour, Nous avons acheté nos vols hier après midi. Malheureusement ce matin nous étions tenus de les annuler. Nous avons appelé ce matin le service clients de Qatar Airways à Doha (bien que le numéro de téléphone soit français). Nous avons annulé nos vols téléphoniquement. (pas de délai de rétractation) puis nous devions recevoir un email de confirmation 6 minutes après : au bout d'une demie heure nous avons rappelé là nous devons être patients puis 1h après vous avez dû recevoir un mail nous as t-on dit et il faudra attendre que le service Back office s'en occupe : si aujourd'hui ou demain matin nous n'avons pas toujours reçu d'email de confirmation d'annulation, les rappeler...nous sommes allés alors sur le forum du routard et là, découverte que cette manière de procéder n'est pas nouvelle avec cette compagnie. Nous ne savons plus quoi faire : attendre une hypothétique réponse ou et attendre le remboursement (la moitie de la dépense) qui interviendrait 2 semaines ou 4 semaines après... Quelqu'un a t-il rencontré ce problème? A qui vous êtes vous adressé? comment avez vous fait! à notre âge (plus de 70 ans) notre stresse va grandissant>. Our family trip (2 kids, boys aged 6 and 9) is coming up fast, and I have a few questions. I’ve seen that quite a few people on this forum are active about Thailand, so I hope you can help me out :-)

- I have a Free mobile plan with a good amount of data abroad (35GB). Do you know if the Bolt or Grab apps work well with a French SIM? I’ve read that the app might not work if the SIM isn’t Thai, but I’ve also seen French travelers using their SIMs in Thailand, so I’m not sure what to think.

- What tips do you have to avoid traveler’s diarrhea (especially for our 6- and 9-year-olds)? I’m already preparing them to wash their hands often and not put their hands in their mouths or brush their teeth with tap water (they’re still little and might not control the water well in their mouths). Are there certain dishes or food stands to avoid? Are ice cubes really off-limits too?

- We arrive in Bangkok at 9 AM, and we have a French-speaking guided tour scheduled for the next morning (all day). The itinerary isn’t finalized yet with the guide—I need to get back in touch soon. What do you recommend doing on that first day, which might be tiring after the long flight and jet lag? Our hotel has a nice pool, but I’d love for us to get out and explore a bit :-)

- Is the Grand Palace really best visited early in the morning to avoid crowds?

- I’d love to visit a night or floating market, but they’re all on weekends. Unfortunately, we’re in Bangkok from Wednesday to Saturday morning (then we take the train to Ayutthaya in the morning). Is there a market on Friday night? I saw Chatuchak, but Friday night doesn’t seem like the best time—is it still worth going?

I’ve looked for answers to these questions, but I’m either not finding a definitive answer or I’m overwhelmed by all the things to do/see in Bangkok. So, I’m hoping your advice or experiences can help me out!

struggling to find a decent flight to Thailand?????

Hi everyone, I’ve been traveling in Asia for over 30 years, often to Thailand, but only during the school holidays in February, April, and especially in the summer, departing from Marseille or Lyon.

For some time now, I’ve noticed it’s really hard to find a flight at a reasonable price (under 900 €) and, more importantly, with a decent itinerary (we’re often offered 2 or 3 layovers with total travel times of 40 or even 50 hours), and this is the case almost a year in advance. This is something we never saw even 4 years ago—I’m wondering: are there fewer flights available now...?

- Can you choose the denominations at exchange bureaus/ATMs? How do you avoid ending up with only 1000-baht notes when exchanging large sums? - If not, is there an easy way to get change? Any alternatives to buying stuff at 7-Eleven? - Can you buy train tickets from Thonburi to Kanchanaburi in advance? Is there usually space available, considering some people do the Death Railway day trip from Bangkok to Sai Yok Noi? - Is there room for luggage on the trains to Kanchanaburi? We’ll be traveling as a group of four with two large checked-baggage-sized suitcases (25 kg each). - Kanchanaburi: Most day tours allow around 3 hours at Erawan Falls. Is that enough, or is it worth spending the whole day there, especially at the start of the rainy season when it’s a bit greener? - In Sam Roi Yot, are there taxis/Grab/Bolt available for exploring the surrounding areas? I’d appreciate any numbers or addresses. - Does True (7-Eleven) have good coverage across Thailand, from Sam Roi Yot to Chiang Rai, or should we go with AIS? - In Bangkok, if you need to switch BTS lines, do you need a new ticket, or can you change lines as long as you don’t exit the station?

J'ai une question, peut être un peu parano sur les bords je vous préviens, mais si vous pouviez m'éclairer ça serait parfait.

Voilà je pars bientôt pour un voyage de 2 mois en Thailande et au Laos avec un ami, et nous somme tous les deux fans d'un jeu de carte, "Magic the gathering", donc nous voulions amener nos jeux de cartes pour l'avion, les transports...

Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas ce jeu, certaines cartes ont de la valeur, et nous avons des decks (paquet de cartes) fait maisons, on a imprimé les visuels des cartes que nous ne possédons pas, sur internet, et ont a ensuite collé ses photocopies sur de vraies cartes "Magic" qui n'ont pas de valeur. Certaines carte valent 1 centime tandis que d'autre peuvent attendre plusieurs centaine d'euros.

Un travail d'amateur, bien que réussi mais absolument aucune équivoque quand à la ressemblance, on voit clairement que c'est du fait maison. C'est juste pour s'amuser entre nous, aucune intention de revente. On aime juste varier nos jeux et diversifier les mécaniques sans mettre des milliers d'euros dans le jeu.

Je suis surement parano et la question peut paraître fantaisiste, mais pensez vous que l'on peut avoir des problèmes dans les aéroports avec ces cartes?

Rescue operation saves two other elephants in danger after attempting to save a calf at Haew Narok

Six wild elephants died after falling into the Haew Narok waterfall in Khao Yai National Park early Saturday morning. A team of park rangers who were herding elephants back into the forest from Route 3077 in Prachin Buri heard loud elephant calls coming from Samor Poon creek, near the waterfall, around 3 a.m. Saturday. By 6 a.m., they went to check and found a calf, about 3 years old, that had drowned in the first tier of the waterfall. Two elephants were spotted trying to help it. They looked exhausted. Officials descended into the area below the waterfall and found five other drowned elephants, said Khanchit Srinoppawan, the national park chief. The waterfall was closed to the public following the incident. Mr. Khanchit said more park officials and rescuers were deployed, and ropes were used to help the two other struggling elephants at the waterfall. They were rescued at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, announced the Khao Yai Gaur nature protection group on its Facebook page. (...)

Haew Narok is the largest and one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Khao Yai National Park. Before the construction of the Prachin Buri-Khao Yai road, visitors had to walk at least six hours to reach the site.

Hi everyone, I’m starting to plan my next trip to Southeast Asia this winter (2.5 months, leaving in early December), and here’s a rough outline of my route—I’d love to share it with you and hear your thoughts and tips.

- I’ll start in Bangkok and already have three spots I’ve marked: Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, and Uthai Thani (I haven’t been to any of these places yet). - Next, I’d like to cross the country from west to east to reach the Laos border. I’d love suggestions for any interesting stops along this route—I don’t know this part of Thailand at all... - Then I’ll head into Laos, probably at Savannakhet (you can usually get a visa at the border). - > I’m tempted to spend a week in Hoi An, Vietnam, since I loved that city and the area when I visited two years ago. No visa needed for Vietnam now, so it could be a nice little detour. On the map, it doesn’t look too far, but I know you’ve got to be careful with these things, and I’m not sure if it’s a good idea. Any opinions on this? - Back to Laos (maybe via Dakta), and I’ll head south along the Mekong, probably doing the Bolaven Plateau loop that I missed last time. Then Paksé, the 4,000 Islands... I’ve been before, but I’d happily go back. - Crossing into Cambodia, I’ll follow the Mekong down to Phnom Penh (I know this area and love how untouristy it is). From there, I’ll probably spend a few days in Kep (quieter than Kampot). Still undecided, though. - Then back to Thailand (BKK), likely by plane from Phnom Penh since the borders between the two countries are currently closed (plus, let’s be honest, Cambodian roads... ;-). We’ll see how things look when the time comes. - After that, I’d like to explore southern Thailand, taking it slow with short hops. I’ve got my eye on Khao Sok National Park, and I’ve heard good things about Krabi... Again, I don’t know this region well, so any info or tips would be great.

So, I think this should be doable in 2.5 months, especially since I prefer short hops of 300 km max to avoid getting too tired, and I like staying 2-3 days in each place to explore. Plus, I’ll take a week off to relax if I find a spot I love—maybe by the sea for some real downtime.

Je passe par la Thailande tous les 6 mois et une fois de plus la bath n'en fini pas de monter, j'ai changé hier 31.78 pour 1 euro, il y a 6 mois j'avais 38 baths et un an 42 baths. Ça pénalise le tourisme, en effet la chute du nombre de touriste continu et ça se voit dans les hôtels, dans celui ou je vais habituellement à BKK, Hôtel 4 étoiles, peu de touristes occidentaux mais surtout des Thaïs, j'ai demandé au réceptionniste ce qui se passe et il m'a dit qu'ils subissaient une forte baisse de la demande Europe et US, du coup ils font des prix pour les locaux afin de remplir l’hôtel. La compagnie aérienne nationale est obligé de réduire la voilure, elle supprime son A380 au départ de Paris faute à la baisse de la demande et met un 777 à la place. La Thaï serait aussi au bord du dépôt de bilan et fera des propositions mi novembre comme une baisse drastique des salaires surtout des cadres de la compagnie, elle emploie actuellement 20000 salariés. Les européens se tournent vers des pays moins chères comme le Vietnam, le Cambodge et le Laos... La Birmanie est aussi en baisse après des années d'augmentation du nombre de touristes.

Je découvre un article mettant en garde sur le tourisme en cette région de nord à cause de la pollution due aux brulis de foret ...la visibilité serait souvent réduite, le ciel couvert...Qui a été en avril et peut me renseigner? Si alors le nord n'est pas le bon choix en avril, est ce que l'Isan est épargnée par cette tradition? Quelle région privilgier en avril en dehors des iles du sud?? Merci!

Our next trip to Thailand is coming up, and we just can't wait! We talk, eat, drink, and dream Thailand 😏

Our itinerary is mostly set, and we’ve found quite a few new things to explore, but I’d still love to hear your recommendations for Bangkok. Just so you know: we love this city, and every time we visit, we spend several days there without ever feeling like we’ve seen it all. So this year, we’re staying for 8 days! Here’s what we have planned this year: * Exploring Nonthaburi * A day trip to Nakhon Pathom (to test out our basic Thai skills 😛) * Khlong Lat Mayom floating market (we went 10 years ago—it’s probably changed a lot!) * The Erawan Museum (we visited Muang Boran on our last trip) * Finally taking the time to check out Wat Phra Sri Maha Mariamman and Wat Yannawa (we’ve planned to go several times but never made it—are they worth a visit?)

This is what we’ve picked so far, but I’d love to hear about the favorite spots and recommendations from travelers who, like us, adore Bangkok.
