Hello, After a lot of searching, exchanging ideas, and thinking it over, I’ve decided to go back to my original plan of spending two weeks in Bangkok. From January 19th to February 2nd. I’ll also take a quick trip for one night/two days to Ayutthaya (and return to Bangkok, where I’ll have kept the apartment I booked), and possibly the same for Kanchanaburi, depending on how I feel once I’m there—whether I find something more interesting in Bangkok or nearby. The key word is: taking my time to take photos, observe, taste, savor (in every sense of the word), and most importantly, not rushing. Beyond the must-see tourist spots, I’d love to wander around the city and maybe within a 40 to 50 km radius for a day trip to discover unusual and lesser-known streets, houses, temples, markets, gardens, and more. I’ll also be spending two weeks in Chiang Mai and two weeks in Nan. I’m open to any suggestions. Thank you so much!

Donc comment se rendre à don muang a cette heure matinale ? Bus ? Est ce peut-être mieux de partir du "centre"?

Bonjour Avis aux spécialistes ;-) Je suis déjà allée en Thailande en juillet (il y a + de 10 ans), je voudrais y retourner mais j'hésite entre juillet et décembre (en congés scolaires). Je sais qu'en décembre il fera meilleur, plus frais mais je crains qu'il y ait beaucoup plus de monde - et les grosses foules, les files de touristes partout, je n'aime pas. Les chambres sont-elles beaucoup plus chères en décembre (j'ai regardé un peu via Booking , la différence ne me parait pas énorme mais ailleurs je lis que si)? Sachant que je compte voir des lieux touristiques (Sukhotai, Bangkok...) et d'autres moins (mais on restera quand même en zone "semi-touristique" car voyage en famille) Merci Valérie

Mais comme nous nous déplaçons en transports en commun je me disais qu'Amphawa serait peut-être plus facilement accessible. Mais est-il encore assez préservé? I’m looking for a beach spot within 3 hours max of Bangkok for the end of my trip (January). I know full well I won’t find that postcard-perfect vibe of the more remote islands! But I don’t have a choice. If you’ve got any ideas... no high-rises, obviously not Pattaya, somewhere quiet, swimming possible, a hotel right on the beach (and not too dirty, the beach itself!) I’ve looked at hotels around Ko Samet or, across from it, on the mainland. I spotted the Bann Pae Cabana. But nothing really exciting on either side. New ideas welcome! 🙂

Hello, I’m traveling with 2 adults and 2 kids for the Christmas 2025 holidays. Here’s my plan: - 2 nights in Bangkok - 1 night in Ayutthaya (then an overnight train) - 3 nights in Chiang Mai (flight to Krabi) - 4 nights on Koh Lanta - 2 nights in Railay (flight back to Bangkok) - 1 night in Bangkok I have a few questions: 1) For Bangkok: how do you organize a visit to the klongs? Can I easily find an agency on the spot? 2) Do I need to book the bus or train to Ayutthaya in advance? 3) Chiang Mai. I’m planning one day for temple sightseeing + Doi Suthep, and I’m debating between two options for the other two days: - Option 1: Day 1: Doi Inthanon day trip + Day 2: elephant experience for the kids. - Option 2: 2 days/1 night for a trek, staying in a village, and seeing elephants. Whichever I choose, should I book in advance? Any tips or suggestions for good, affordable activities? What do you think of Get Your Guide excursions? Thanks for your advice!

Fin octobre nous partons pour Bangkok que nous ne connaissons absolument pas... Nous sommes 7 dont une dame de 70 ans et une enfant de 9 ans. De ce fait, nous souhaitons 2 chambres dont une pour 4 personnes et une pour 3. On nous avait conseillé différents hôtels mais aucun n'avait de chambre pour 3 ou 4. Du coup en faisant des recherches sur un site d'hôtels nous avons trouvé celui ci : Le Prince Palace Hotel. Certains d'entre vous y sont déjà allés? Est il bien situé ? Bon quartier? Proche transports communs? Et d'autres parts, le taxi de l'aéroport jusque à l'hôtel coûte t il très cher? Autant de questions que nous nous posons et dont nous aimerions avoir des réponses par des personnes qui ont tâté du doigt...🙂

Hi, just a quick note mainly for Samsong, even if he’s still giving me the silent treatment. I’ve been in Nan since yesterday and... I love it! So thanks, Thierry. It’s exactly the kind of place I’d been dreaming of... Even if communication is a bit tough, it’s not impossible. They don’t even know the most basic English words! Everyone laughs and they’re the first to pull out their phones to... translate. They’re even quicker on the uptake than I am. And then there’s the time I say Nan (pronounced "Nane"). They don’t understand me. After a while (sometimes a long one), they reply: "Ah, Nan?" (pronounced "Nane") 😵🤳😃

The town is exactly how you described it back in 2022. Though I’m surprised to find so many trendy, slightly intellectual "Cafés." Apparently, coffee—excellent everywhere—is king in Nan. It feels like a university town. And it seems pretty lively at night! But for now, I’m going to bed early. I caught a nasty cold, which didn’t stop me from walking 12 km this morning. But I came back to my accommodation by 3 PM (gorgeous and luxurious with top-notch service for 800 baht—even a cute local welcome gift this morning, plus other unexpected touches like a bottle of honey and chrysanthemum flowers for tea. The lady must’ve guessed I was coming down with something yesterday). I thought about going out for dinner but didn’t have the energy. I think I’ve got at least 39°C fever...

Anyway, I’m sending you this message, Thierry, because you mentioned a daily bus to Chiang Rai, so I didn’t look into it. But now it’s a real problem—no buses to Chiang Rai, only taxis. At least 2,500 baht for the cheapest one! I’ll check the bus station directly tomorrow. Online, it’s all taxis, no buses. I’d like to explore the countryside/mountains if I can find an affordable driver. Any ideas for destinations or itineraries? Thanks.

Nous projetons de partir 6 à 7 semaines à partir du 28 octobre 2020. Nos poles d'interets sont -visites -petits trecs -vivre au milieu des habitants. -calme Il faudrait que le circuit tienne compte des conditions climatiques, surtout" pas trop chaud" On aime bien se déplacer en bus ou train . Hi everyone, I’m a die-hard fan of India, but it’s time I discovered Thailand too to broaden my Asian horizons. I’m heading there on January 19, 2025, for a 46-day trip (no visa needed as I’m French). I’ve pored over a few guidebooks and travel blogs. Based on what caught my interest, I’ve put together a rough itinerary and list of sights. But since I know absolutely nothing about Thailand, I’m kind of flying blind here. Since I’m not exactly a spring chicken anymore, I’ve opted for a few bases where I’ll stay several days in the same place. That way, I won’t have to change locations and hotels every day or so, packing and unpacking my suitcase constantly. Instead, I plan to explore the surrounding area each day, within a maximum radius of 50 to 70 km. So, first question: Is that kind of round-trip distance manageable in a day in Thailand? In India, renting a car for a day—with a driver—currently costs around 35 to 40 € per day. Knowing that 1,300 to 1,500 THB would be my absolute max, and even then, only if I don’t rent a car every single day. Which brings me to my second question: Am I being unrealistic? Otherwise—third question—once I’m settled in the city I’ve chosen as my base, can I get around within that 50–70 km radius using public transport? I’ve already booked all my hotels—with free cancellation—on booking.com at an average price of 950/1,000 THB per night. Does that put me in a good range for value for money? Or am I dreaming?

Here’s my plan:

BANGKOK (13 days, 14 nights): 1 week for exploring Bangkok – Kanchanaburi/Erawan National Park? – Ayutthaya/Lopburi? – Muang Boran – Samut – Songkram/Amphawa

Bangkok -> Chiang Mai by overnight train in first-class sleeper

CHIANG MAI (6 days/6 nights): Mae Hong Son – Hot springs – Chiang Dao – caves – Lamphun – other places to be decided on the spot based on what’s worth seeing and transport options

Chiang Mai -> Chiang Rai

CHIANG RAI (7 days/8 nights): Fang – Tha Ton – Chiang Saen – Doi Tung – Chiang Khong – Doi Ang Khang, Phu Chi Fah, etc.

Chiang Rai -> Phrae

PHRAE (4 days/5 nights): Lampang and surrounding areas, depending on what’s interesting to see

Phrae -> Loei

LOEI (4 days/5 nights): Phu Kradung – Chiang Khan and surrounding areas, depending on what’s worth seeing

Loei -> Buriram

PHIMAI (Nakhon Ratchasima/Khorat) (5 days/6 nights): Phimai – Prasat Muang Tam – Phanom Rung – Prasat Phanom Wan

Phimai -> Khorat (airport or train station) -> Bangkok (overnight in Bangkok)

Day 46: BANGKOK -> KOCHI

I'm "finalizing" a trip with my adventurous family (wife + 3 kids aged 16, 14, and 8) for this Easter break in Thailand (we'll be there from 04/19 to 05/01).

I'm going through the site and wanted to thank you all for the tips and insights you share on the forum. They're really valuable. But boy, it's tough to sketch out an itinerary

Of course, my backpacking route might be debatable, but I'm trying to target this path to get a first taste of the country's different "facets" and keep everyone in the family happy 😛

For this first trip, we're sticking to the classics and planning to explore a different side of the Land of Smiles in the future:

- arrival in BKK at 4 PM on 04/19 ==> leaving the same day at 7 PM for Chiang Mai (I "hesitated" with the 5:30 PM flight but was worried we wouldn't have enough time to switch from British AW to Thai Airways + airport fees + baggage + customs, etc. )

- from 04/20 to 04/23 ==> Chiang Mai with the main highlights (we've picked: Doi Suthep, Wat Pha Lat, elephant sanctuary, Doi Inthanon, the old city, Wat Chedi, Wat Phra Singh).

==> For the elephant sanctuary: any recommendations? Morning or afternoon visit?

==> It might seem ambitious, but we're considering a day trip to Chiang Rai—though it's not a must. Yes, we know it means ~6 hours of travel in one day.

- direct flight on the morning of 04/24 to Krabi ==> Railay - Phang Nga ==> this part isn't finalized yet (we won't stay in Krabi).

For those who've been there, which part of the south would be best weather-wise during this period?

We'd stay in the south until 04/28 and take a 8 PM flight to BKK.

- BKK on 04/29, 04/30, and part of 05/01 before our flight to London at 11 PM.

We'll hit the must-see/classic spots there.

If you have time to share some insights, I'd really appreciate it.

Retour sur notre voyage effectué ce mois de Janvier 2019 à propos de l'agence Thaïlande évasion. J'attire votre attention sur quelques désagréments que nous avons eu avec cette structure, et pourtant après moult voyages avec beaucoup d'agence, je n'avais jamais rencontré autant de soucis de ce genre. - A notre arrivée à aéroport de Bangkok, nous avons cherchés notre contact qui devait être là, personne. nous avons essayer de contacter l'agence avec le n° de téléphone qu'il nous avait donné " personne au bout du fil". Après 45 mn d'attente, notre contact arrive !!!! Bonjour le stress ! - Nous étions un groupe de 10 personnes pour 1 mini bus, 10 valises + les sacs, donc pas assez de places assises, un des nôtres à du voyager assis sur une valise, quel confort. Rebelote 2 jours après, mais avec 3h00 de route, je ne vous dit pas les remarques désagréables du groupe envers Thaïlande évasion et son organisation d'amateur, même le guide qui était au top" heureusement" n'avait jamais vu cela. Il nous à même dit que pour un groupe de 10 il fallait 2 véhicules. Il a fait remonter ce désagrément à l'agence, qui à partir de là a fait le nécessaire pour avoir un véhicule supplémentaire pour transporter les valises. - Dans notre contrat il y avait une journée de trek, mais au final cette journée n'y était plus? on avait quand même payé la prestation! - Par hasard des membres de notre groupe ont rencontrés la responsable de notre séjour à Chiang Maï, une certaine "Nathalie"en demandant des explications, mais elle a ouvertement refusée de venir discuter avec le groupe et a été à la limite de la correction et de la grossièreté.Pour un cadre de l'entreprise c'est du top ! -Nous avions demandés un transfert en avion en fin de circuit de Chiangmaï/ Phuket direct, mais nous avons eu un vol Chiangmaï/Bangkok et un autre vol Bangok/Phuket ! Incompréhensible et des heures de perdues en attente et transfert. A part ces péripéties qui auraient pu nous gâcher le voyage, nous avons pris cela comme des erreurs de jeunesse, en espérant qu'ils se serviront de nos mésaventures pour les prochains groupes. Il y a eu du positif quand même, durant notre séjour. -Les guides étaient supers, très instruits et parlant couramment le Français, très intéressants dans leurs explications. Le circuit lui même était bien équilibré, avec des distances raisonnables et des rencontres fortuites avec des populations locales où il n'y avait pas trop de touristes. Le choix de hôtels bien pensé assez prés des quartiers animés ou vraiment dépaysants. Fin de mon commentaire sur Thaïlande Evasion, avec qui je ne repartirai certainement pas.

Bonjour Voilà mon problème pour fin avril prochain. J'ai calé une visite au park de khao Yai avec Greenleaf et je me retrouve en fin de journée à Pak Chong. Je veux rejoindre Nonk khai ou a defaut Udon Thani pour y être le lendemain. Je n'ai qu'un train à 22h10 avec arrivée Udon à 3h45!!!! Ma question : Y a t il d'autre moyen de transport fiable et si non puis-je trouver un hotel ouvert à 4h00 du matin sachant que je reste quelques jour à Nonk khai pour revenir après sur Bangkok en avion ?

Bonjour nous prevoyons un sejour de 2 semaines en thailande en mars nous avons prevu d'atterir a phucket et faire les iles kho phi phi et kho lanta et apres aller sur khao lak.si quelqu'un peut me donner des conseils et surtout quoi prendre comme transports et les visites a faire temples etc.. et les restos pour pas aller ds les attrapes touristes mrrci a tous de vos reponses. Our next trip to Thailand is coming up, and we just can't wait! We talk, eat, drink, and dream Thailand 😏

Our itinerary is mostly set, and we’ve found quite a few new things to explore, but I’d still love to hear your recommendations for Bangkok. Just so you know: we love this city, and every time we visit, we spend several days there without ever feeling like we’ve seen it all. So this year, we’re staying for 8 days! Here’s what we have planned this year: * Exploring Nonthaburi * A day trip to Nakhon Pathom (to test out our basic Thai skills 😛) * Khlong Lat Mayom floating market (we went 10 years ago—it’s probably changed a lot!) * The Erawan Museum (we visited Muang Boran on our last trip) * Finally taking the time to check out Wat Phra Sri Maha Mariamman and Wat Yannawa (we’ve planned to go several times but never made it—are they worth a visit?)

This is what we’ve picked so far, but I’d love to hear about the favorite spots and recommendations from travelers who, like us, adore Bangkok.

En avril nous allons retourner en Thaïlande. Nous avons gardé un contact régulier avec notre logeuse et aimerions lui faire un petit cadeau ainsi qu’à son équipe qui sont super.

Nous venons de Suisse et avons déjà pensé à quelques chocolats. Mais avez-vous d’autre idées?

Les enfants ont aussi sympathisé avec d’autres enfants de la régions que nous avons revu deux an de suite, donc également si vous avez quelques idées.

Bonjour, Nous avons acheté nos vols hier après midi. Malheureusement ce matin nous étions tenus de les annuler. Nous avons appelé ce matin le service clients de Qatar Airways à Doha (bien que le numéro de téléphone soit français). Nous avons annulé nos vols téléphoniquement. (pas de délai de rétractation) puis nous devions recevoir un email de confirmation 6 minutes après : au bout d'une demie heure nous avons rappelé là nous devons être patients puis 1h après vous avez dû recevoir un mail nous as t-on dit et il faudra attendre que le service Back office s'en occupe : si aujourd'hui ou demain matin nous n'avons pas toujours reçu d'email de confirmation d'annulation, les rappeler...nous sommes allés alors sur le forum du routard et là, découverte que cette manière de procéder n'est pas nouvelle avec cette compagnie. Nous ne savons plus quoi faire : attendre une hypothétique réponse ou et attendre le remboursement (la moitie de la dépense) qui interviendrait 2 semaines ou 4 semaines après... Quelqu'un a t-il rencontré ce problème? A qui vous êtes vous adressé? comment avez vous fait! à notre âge (plus de 70 ans) notre stresse va grandissant>. Les avis semblent unanimes : «  c’est plus ce que c’était... c.est cher...c.est rempli de touristes chinois...et de rappeurs... ». Y a t’il encore des coins où les touristes ne grouillent pas car je suis pas fan des nids à touristes... Merci de vos réponses.

Bonsoir nous partons samedi pour la Thaïlande avec un paris phuket via abu dhabi par ethiad airways notre vol est confirmé pour l"instant.un peu stressé quand même. Pour l'instant le pays acceptent les touristes français nous restons 3semaines phuket kho phi phi khao lak.on a prevu les masques et les gels hydroalcoliques.on verra bien.annulez on perdait tout vu que la compagnie maintient le vol.les hotels non remboursables en plus.enfin mes valises sont prêtes.go😉
