Bonjour, Nous envisageons de partir à Maurice quatre ou cinq semaines en famille (enfant de quatre ans habitué à voyager). J’aimerais passer quelques jours à Port-Louis, quelques jours à l´intérieur des terres (sur la ferme de La Vieille Cheminée à Chamarel), quelques jours sur la côte ouest (station balnéaire à choisir, j’hésite entre Flic en Flac, Grand Baie et Pointe-aux-piments) et finalement, quelques jours sur la côte Est (en se basant à Trou d’eau douce pour visiter Belle Mare, l’Ile aux cerfs...) À force de voir que tous les hôtels proposent le parking gratuit, je me demande si c’est vraiment la norme de voyager en voiture privée à Maurice. Nous préférerions voyager en taxi ou en bus entre nos points de chute et, sur place, visiter les environs à pieds (quitte à prendre un taxi à la journée de temps en temps pour visiter un point d’intérêt). Est-ce pensable? Est-ce une bonne idée? C’est comme cela qu’on a visité plusieurs pays d’Asie, même avec enfant, mais est-ce que cette formule est aussi disponible/adéquate pour visiter Maurice? Nous souhaiterions éviter la conduite à gauche, ainsi que les frais associés à une location de voiture pendant un mois! J’aimerais connaître vos expériences. Merci beaucoup!

My wife and I (Quebecers, 63 years old, retired, celebrating our 45 years together this year, including 20 years of marriage) have chosen to mark the occasion with a trip to Dubai, Réunion, and Mauritius (4 days in Dubai, then 24 days on the islands).

We have a lot of experience planning road trips (scouting routes, visits, hotels, and restaurants of interest), but we travel without reservations to keep the freedom to follow our instincts and tips we get on the spot. We’re moderately active physically and prefer the countryside and beaches over big cities. Our only fixed dates: arrival in Réunion on October 5th and departure from Mauritius on October 29th.

After lots of reading and with the help of an AI (super useful for drafting a first outline!), here’s a possible itinerary framework. Nothing is set in stone—I’d love your suggestions, comments, and thoughts on what’s worth adding or avoiding. Are the proposed bases optimal? Also, if you have recommendations for hotels (mid-range budget of 100–200 euros per night), restaurants, etc., I’m all ears! ;-)

I’m starting to plan a trip for September 2025 with my wife. I’d love to discover Mauritius, and I’ve begun reading the forum posts.

Can you tell me if September is a good time to visit Mauritius?

I’ll admit we’re still hesitating—our ideas are Mauritius or Bali.

We’re in our sixties, not high-level athletes, but we travel quite a bit. We don’t like changing hotels every day; instead, we prefer to explore around a central base. If we need to move to better enjoy the trip, no more than twice, I think.

So, I’m looking for a good compromise for accommodation. I’m also looking for a guide to get an idea of pricing and options, but most of all, I’d love to hear from people who’ve already stayed there during this period and get tips on finding places to stay.

Et bien, après pas mal de temps passé à me rencarder, c'est fort possible que j'y aille l'année prochaine (mais Air Mauritus est en dépôt de bilan) 🤪

J'ai trouvé un bungalow en demi pension excentré et sur une des plus belles plages pour 50 euros/nuit.

Hello everyone, Thanks for this amazing forum—I’ve spent hours browsing through it. I’m reaching out to ask for your help as we’re looking for a destination for our honeymoon. We never travel outside Europe, so we’re total newbies, but we want to treat ourselves for this special occasion.

Dates: June 23 → July 8 (possibly until July 12) Duration: 2 to 3 weeks Budget: Not really an issue for this trip

Our plan: - A seaside destination first and foremost, with beautiful beaches - We’d like to do some hiking or at least go on walks with scenic viewpoints - A relaxing trip with sunshine, lush greenery, and stunning landscapes - A safe destination

Our thoughts so far: - New Zealand: our dream, but it seems like the wrong time of year weather-wise ++ - Azores: ruled out due to unpredictable weather—what do you think? - Mauritius/Reunion combo: vetoed by my future wife ^^ - Seychelles: seems like it could work, but I’ve read about a few downsides (no shops to buy food, snorkeling not always amazing, occasional weather/tide issues making swimming tricky)

Other options: - French Polynesia: we’re really dreaming of it, but is 2 weeks too short for such a long trip? - Hawaii: same question—too far? - Sardinia?

Bonjour à tous ! désolée pour la rubrique qui n'est peut-être pas adaptée mais je ne savais pas trop quoi noter par rapport au sujet que je vais aborder ci-dessous.

Je prépare notre voyage aux Seychelles en amoureux pour l'an prochain et donc je compare plusieurs possibilités, que pensez-vous me dire de l'agence SeyVillas ? Avec eux, j'arrive à a peu près 3500€ pour deux comprenant les vols A/R, les transferts terrestres et maritimes, les logements sur 3 îles à savoir : Mahé, Praslin, La Digue pour 14 nuits. 2 de ces logements ont le petit déjeuner inclus et offrent une très belle vue sur l'océan.

J'essaye de comparer avec Booking ou encore Airbnb mais je m'y perds un peu et je pense pas forcément que ce soit si avantageux que ça quand je vois ne serait-ce que le prix des ferrys pour les différents transferts.

Si vous avez des choses à me conseiller, je suis preneuse !

Bonjour à tous, nous partons pour l'ile Maurice du 01 au 10 décembre à l’hôtel PENINSULA BAY à coté de Mahébourg. Est-ce que quelqu'un a testé cet hôtel récemment et votre avis ; je souhaiterais surtout savoir s'il y a des marchands extérieurs (si possible le prénom ) pour les excursions (à l’hôtel, c'est assez cher). Nous pensions faire l'ile aux cerfs avec repas sur place, une ballade en taxi avec les plus belles plages, la terre des 7 couleurs, etc... Bonjour, j'aimerais bien recevoir vos avis sur comment voyager aux Seychelles ; J'ai acheté un billet d'avion 27/02/20-11/03/20 et je ne sais pas si je peux imaginer me débrouiller seule pour me déplacer, trouver à me loger facilement sans réservation préalable, ou s'il est préférable si c'est trop compliqué , parce que je ne parle pas bien l'anglais, conduite automobile à gauche peut être périlleux, s'il est souhaitable de faire appel à un "voyagiste" qui s'occuperait des réservations pour me loger, aller sur une autre île.....Pour 2 semaines quel budget vous paraît correct pour prendre des repas ds les petits restos locaux, ou acheter des fruits sur les marchés ?et trouver plusieurs pensions ou guest-house à Mahé, Praslin et La Digue ? Les affaires de viols, vol avec violence et d'agressions alimentent l'angoisse des touristes. Le viol d'une touriste Réunionnaise risque aujourd'hui de souffrir de la perception que Maurice n'est pas une destination sûre, en particulier pour les femmes. Plusieurs récents faits de violence ont ajouté au malaise ambiant.

Hello, We’ll be on vacation in the Seychelles in July and will visit La Digue, Praslin, and then Mahé in that order. Our 21-year-old daughter will have to leave earlier than us while we’re still on Praslin. We’re hesitating between the following options for her return: Option 1: - July 9: ferry from Praslin at 2:00 PM – arrives in Mahé at 3:15 PM. - International flight departing at 7:30 PM. - The connection is very tight, leaving a 1- to 2-hour safety margin in case the ferry is delayed. Option 2: - July 9: ferry from Praslin at 8:00 AM – arrives in Mahé at 9:15 AM. - International flight departing at 7:30 PM. - This is safer than Option 1, but it means she’d lose the whole day, spending it alone. We’d pay for a day pass giving her access to a hotel pool to kill time. From experience, what do you think? Are significant ferry delays (2 hours or more) common, especially in July with the swell, making Option 1 too risky? Or is even Option 2 too risky, and should our daughter take a ferry the day before (though that would mean missing a lot of time with us)? Or should she take an Air Seychelles flight the same day instead of the ferry? Is that safer than the ferry? But it’s much more expensive… I know no one can give me certainty on this, but I’d just love to hear your gut feeling from those who have experience with inter-island transfers in the Seychelles. Hi there, We’ve booked accommodation at Digwa Beach Chalet on La Digue. We’ll be arriving and leaving by ferry. We’re only a 20-minute walk from our rental. I was wondering if anyone has stayed at this place before and knows if they pick you up from the ferry? Is it free? How much does it cost? I’m looking for hiking ideas anywhere on the island (I’ll have a car). Nothing over 15 km round trip and a maximum of 500 m elevation gain. (A little more if it’s an exceptional hike.)

I’m also searching for beaches where I can do some snorkeling without needing to take a boat or join an excursion.

I’ve seen that sea kayaking tours are available. Is it possible to just rent a kayak, and which spots on the island are best for easy kayaking?

If you have other suggestions (villages, viewpoints, etc.) for independent excursions, I’m all ears!😉

Hi everyone, After finishing the season (gîte on the Compostela trail), it’s our turn to hike! We’re heading to Réunion for 6 weeks, then Mauritius, and maybe Rodrigues. We leave on November 5th. What are the must-do hikes, starting with easy ones to get our legs back in shape (yep, 7 months of inactivity!) and then a bit more challenging, but most importantly, no risk of vertigo. Sorry, that’s just how it is—can’t do it 😅. As for gîtes, should we book a few days in advance, or do we need to plan now? And what about transport? Should we rent a vehicle instead? Quelqu'un a-t-il eu la chance de connaitre ce type de personne et pourrait-il nous en faire profiter?
