We land at BKK at 7:30 AM. Buses to Chiang Rai leave in the evening starting at 5:30 PM.
We’ll head straight to Chiang Khong afterward.
Now, a lot of questions remain:
What’s the most budget-friendly way to get to Mochit 2 terminal?
Can we buy the bus ticket the same day at the terminal, or do we need to book it in advance?
So far, all my searches point me to 12GO for reservations.
Where can we leave our luggage while waiting for the bus to Chiang Rai?
In Chiang Rai, where can we take the bus from Bus Terminal 2 to Bus Terminal 1?
Do you know the bus number?
On Thailandee.com, the price is 70 THB/person, but on 12GO, the minimum price is 17 €—can you spot the mistake?

After a long travel hiatus, we’re (finally) back on the road for some getaways! Now with two kids in tow, we’re heading to Thailand for two weeks next February (a destination that’s stood us up twice before but seems perfect for our first big family trip).
We’d have loved to stay longer, but two weeks is already a great start and will be plenty enjoyable.

I really loved Thailand, but it was too touristy for my taste. So I'm hesitating about going back and wondering if Cambodia or Vietnam would be less crowded with tourists...
February 9th is a pivotal day during my trip to Thailand. Up until this date, my focus had been on cities, temples, and other urban landmarks. Starting February 10th, I’ll finally leave the city behind for the outskirts—one town, one life, farther from tourism, more real, more authentic... Then comes the bucolic surroundings of Chiang Mai, nature, the countryside, the mountains.
This morning, I head to visit the ethnographic museum. I’d been told about another one, but it’s permanently closed. I wonder if it’s the same one that might have changed its name and location.
I thoroughly enjoy visiting this museum. At first, I’m a bit annoyed because the place is packed with noisy school groups blocking the display cases without even showing the slightest interest. But soon, their chaperones manage to lead them into another room, giving me some peace. They maintain this distance throughout the tour, allowing me to explore the museum in complete tranquility. I really appreciate their tact.
I’m amazed by the absolutely stunning fabric displays and the countless everyday objects, especially the very old pottery. There’s so much beautiful basketry and intricately carved wood. The statues are also incredible... After seeing all of them, I no longer feel like buying any from the shops.
On my way back, not far from my hotel, I discover a rather unique place that only serves one drink, which they’ve made their specialty: egg coffee! A pretty surprising novelty. I have to try it.
At the bottom of the cup, they pour a layer of milk, topped with a layer of liquid coffee, followed by a layer of egg yolk, and finally a top layer that turns out to be a mix of coffee and cocoa powder. It’s a cold drink that, in the end, doesn’t have much flavor, and the price is pretty steep for such a small cup. You’re paying for the exclusivity!
Later in the day, I venture once again into small alleys, something I love doing when exploring a new city—no specific goal, just wandering east of the city, outside the walls.
I encounter very few tourists there and discover unsuspected little shops overflowing with lovely items, much cheaper than what you find in the heart of the tourist district. Then I wander through the floors of Warorot Market. I discover another kind of temple there: the temple of good deals. I love finding clothes that are really original for locals, not the flood of shirts and pants that tourists love but no Thai would ever buy, which invade the shops in the "Historic Square." I stop in my tracks in front of a stall with beautiful shirts featuring stunning geometric patterns in elegant color combinations and very short sleeves. Hmm, these would be perfect for showing off my biceps, one of which is adorned with the magnificent Ganesh tattoo I got last year in Bali. "When you’ve got nice things, you’ve got to show them off!" he said. 😜🙏💪 I pick out two for 380 baht and negotiate them down to 300. But the seller won’t go any lower. I understand I’ve reached the limit of her commercial possibilities. Just as I’m leaving the shop, happy with my purchase, my ever-helpful inner voice, Petite Voix, suggests: - You didn’t try them on because you were too lazy to take off the one you’re wearing and also because of the sweat, but you could just put one on over the one you’re wearing. It’s light enough that it won’t bother you.
I go back to the two sellers, who burst out laughing when I ask to try them on. - Oh no, it’s way too small for you! It’s a women’s shirt! - But they don’t look particularly feminine in style! And I chose XXL... I put the shirt on, and of course, it won’t close. Then I notice the buttons are on the wrong side. That’s why the sleeves seemed so short!!! They put the shirts back on the rack and refund me without any fuss, commenting amid total hilarity: - Well, thank goodness you tried it on just as you were leaving the shop!
Since I don’t want to walk too much before tomorrow’s first Big Outing with the driver, I end my stroll with a visit to two very pretty temples recommended by Joël.
I’d rather not post more temple photos. But these ones smell like village and countryside...
I’ve never seen anything like Wat Ket Karam, so extravagant...
And I end my day with two other lesser-known temples: Wat Noung Kham, simple and finally free of gold and glitter,
and Wat Dap Phai, where an intimate ceremony is taking place at the end of the day.

Starting May 1, 2025, Thailand plans to introduce a Digital Arrival Card, an electronic arrival form to be completed before departure. Inspired by Cambodia’s system, this formality aims to digitize the collection of traveler information. The exact details (whether it will be mandatory, the form’s content, submission deadline) are still to be confirmed. I’ve got another little question about filling out the TDAC regarding the address to provide, given that I’m staying for 2 months and 3 weeks and I’ve booked an exit ticket to Malaysia (which I’ll cancel on-site before the 60 days).
I’ve booked a hotel for one night, and after that, I’ll be staying at my Thai wife’s house—she lives with me in France and has her ID card with the house address. But her *tabien ban* is still in Thailand. Which address should I put? The hotel for one night or the house address? And in that case, I’m worried they might ask me for the TM30.

Is the booking confirmation enough for the 3-month single-entry tourist visa?
Hi everyone, is there anyone sure about this topic? I’ve heard two different things. I’m leaving for Thailand on March 2nd and returning to France on March 30th, and my passport expires on September 25th. When I look at the rule that says the passport must be valid for more than 6 months upon entry, I’m good until March 25th, but on the way out, I’ll be 2 days short of the full 6 months (5 days early, to be precise).
Most people tell me it’s okay because it’s the entry date that counts, and even ChatGPT confirmed that for me. But some say no, it’s the return date that matters. So I called Qatar Airways, and even there, I got two different answers—one person said no, it’s the return date, and another said it’s fine for them. I’m not sure they fully understood what I was asking, and since I’m not in Paris, I can’t go in person either...
Just to be safe, I applied for a passport renewal at the town hall. They told me it would take 4 to 6 weeks, and I applied on January 14th, leaving on March 2nd, which is 6 and a half weeks. On the ANTS tracking, it’s been marked as "in production" since January 17th...
So, are there any experts on this topic out there? Either about whether boarding is allowed with the old passport or about the usual timeline for receiving a new passport... Am I wrong to worry in either case?

- I have a Free mobile plan with a good amount of data abroad (35GB). Do you know if the Bolt or Grab apps work well with a French SIM? I’ve read that the app might not work if the SIM isn’t Thai, but I’ve also seen French travelers using their SIMs in Thailand, so I’m not sure what to think.
- What tips do you have to avoid traveler’s diarrhea (especially for our 6- and 9-year-olds)? I’m already preparing them to wash their hands often and not put their hands in their mouths or brush their teeth with tap water (they’re still little and might not control the water well in their mouths). Are there certain dishes or food stands to avoid? Are ice cubes really off-limits too?
- We arrive in Bangkok at 9 AM, and we have a French-speaking guided tour scheduled for the next morning (all day). The itinerary isn’t finalized yet with the guide—I need to get back in touch soon. What do you recommend doing on that first day, which might be tiring after the long flight and jet lag? Our hotel has a nice pool, but I’d love for us to get out and explore a bit :-)
- Is the Grand Palace really best visited early in the morning to avoid crowds?
- I’d love to visit a night or floating market, but they’re all on weekends. Unfortunately, we’re in Bangkok from Wednesday to Saturday morning (then we take the train to Ayutthaya in the morning). I’m traveling with 2 adults and 2 kids for the Christmas 2025 holidays.
Here’s my plan:
- 2 nights in Bangkok
- 1 night in Ayutthaya (then an overnight train)
- 3 nights in Chiang Mai (flight to Krabi)
- 4 nights on Koh Lanta
- 2 nights in Railay (flight back to Bangkok)
- 1 night in Bangkok
I have a few questions:
1) For Bangkok: how do you organize a visit to the klongs? Can I easily find an agency on the spot?
2) Do I need to book the bus or train to Ayutthaya in advance?
3) Chiang Mai. I’m planning one day for temple sightseeing + Doi Suthep, and I’m debating between two options for the other two days:
- Option 1: Day 1: Doi Inthanon day trip + Day 2: elephant experience for the kids.
- Option 2: 2 days/1 night for a trek, staying in a village, and seeing elephants.
Whichever I choose, should I book in advance? Any tips or suggestions for good, affordable activities? What do you think of Get Your Guide excursions?

Avec mon compagnon nous partons en decembre de bruxelles pour aller à Bali. Apres un sejour la bas nous reprenons un vol le 27 decembre en direction de Bangkok.
La bas nous souhaiterions remonter la Thailande et aller visiter la Birmanie ( voyage bus ou train) Nous reprenons ensuite un vol le 25 février a Bangkok en direction de la Belgique.
Pourriez vous me dire si j'ai besoin d un visa. J ai lu et entendu plein de choses différentes. Comme nous rentrerons une premiere fois sur le territoire thai le 27 et que nous n'avons pas de preuve de quitter le territoire (puisque voyage en train ou bus) et que notre vol retour est booké le 25 fevrier. doit on avoir un visa? ou pouvons nous profité une exemption de visa? si oui, comme nous comptons quitter le pays pour la Birmanie, si nous prenons un visa simple entrée nous ne pourrons plus rentrer sur le territoire?

Je vais pour la 1ère fois partir sac dos pour 3 mois en Asie. Je ne compte pas séjourner plus d'un mois en Thaïlande donc le Visa touristique d'un mois devrait me suffire sauf que l'ambassade thaïlandaise me dit qu'à chaque entrée sur le territoire je dois pouvoir prouver que je le quitte moins d'un mois plus tard. Avec billet d'avion c'est facile. Par contre je compte passer de la Birmanie à la Thaïlande par la frontière terrestre, rester quelques jours dans le nord puis repasser au Laos et prendre le bateau vers Luang Prabang. Dois-je impérativement déjà avoir le ticket du bateau à l'avance pour prouver à mon arrivée en Thaïlande que je vais bien ressortir quelques jours plus tard?

Lors de mon dernier voyage, j'ai goûté un plat à Trang (voir photo), une sorte de salade. Outre qu'il est esthétiquement très beau, il est aussi d'un goût très original. Pour le déguster, on commence par mélanger tous les ingrédients. Quelqu'un peut-il me donner son nom ?

Je suis en train de préparer une partie de mon voyage sur cette région. Je me suis arrêtée à Trang, l'hiver dernier. j'ai fait l'excursion des îles, et je me suis arrêtée à Koh Kradan avec le rêve d'y retourner. J'ai eu un très mauvais temps à cette période, et j'avais abandonné l'idée de rester dans la région plus longtemps.
Je pars pour la Thailande bientot, fin décembre et je compte bien y retourner.
j'ai quelques questions si vous pouvez me répondre. je prévois koh Tarutao koh Bulon koh Adang koh Sukhorn ... (?)... avis ?
Koh Lipe si je suis forcée de m'y arrêter.

- j'aimerais savoir s'il y a à la gare routière de Trang, des minibus locaux qui permettent de se rendre à Pakbara. S'il est possible d'éviter les agences de packages qui se trouvent en face de la gare, et de trouver un minibus en se rendant à la gare routière, qui est plus au nord de la ville, je sais, suis arrivée par là. Et si je pouvais enchaîner train de nuit / minibus/ bateau sans m'arrêter à Trang, ça serait bien. (Ne me conseillez pas le vol, j'ai regardé les tarifs, à cette période c'est hors de prix)
- comment de l'archipel de Trarutao/Lipe puis-je rejoindre l'île de K.Pradang, qui, elle, a une liaison au départ de Pakmeng. Dois je retourner à Pakbara, prendre un minibus jusqu'à Pakmeng, et un bateau jusqu'à Pakmeng ? ou y a t il une autre façon ? par la mer ? mais à quel tarif !
- au niveau des prix des guest houses sur Internet, je trouve que les tarifs sont bien chers sur les sites web... et moi j' y vais en fin décembre, début janvier !!! ) Avez vous des adresses sur des guesthouses qui ne dépasseraient pas les 1000 bahts ? y a t il des îles que je dois éliminer parce que de toute façon je n'y trouverai pas un logement à prix moyen ?

Bonjour, je pars en Thailande du 18 juin au 10 juillet avec mon frère de 19 ans, on a déjà plus ou moins prévu notre itinéraire mais on a quelques questions :
1) On va aller à Chiang Mai 2 ou 3 nuits à l’ Hotel Thai House Chiang Mai pour visiter la ville, ensuite faire un trek de 3jours - 2 nuits. Prendre le trek de l’hotel ou d’une agence ? Il faut prendre des chaussures de randonnée ou basket c’est ok ? Après on resterait encore 1 ou 2 nuits à Chiang Mai
2) Ensuite, on pense aller sur 2 ou 3 iles, il parait qu’à cette période c’est mieux le golf du Siam que la mer d’Andaman ? On pense aller à Ko Samui mais on hésite avec Ko Chang ? Concernant la plage et la mer ? Le cout de la vie (guesthouse et consommation) ? La tranquillité et les sorties ? Y a-t-il des endroits où faire la fête sans prostitution ? Les iles accessibles en bateau sont elle du même genre que Ko Samui ou plus isolées ? La quelle choisir ? Si on va à Ko Samui, vous conseillez le train de nuit ou le bus VIP à partir de Bangkok ?
3) 3 ou 4 jours avant notre départ, on resterait à Bangkok, si vous avez une guesthouse à conseillez je suis preneur.
4) Pour payer en Thailande, il faut mieux payer en bath, en euro ou en dollar vu que l’euro est fort ? C’est risqué de faire du jet ski en Thailande ? J’ai peur qu’on me fasse l’arnaque du jet ski abimé alors qu’il l’était déjà. Bien regarder avant suffit ?

en arrivant à bangkok avec thaiairways et en repartant pour phuket, on passe l immigration à bangkok ou phuket ? (je suis sur que c est à Phuket, mais un leger doute...ca fait longtemps que j ai pas ete à phuket en direct de paris)
Kata ou Karon ? j ai toujours ete à Kata, mais bon...je suis open

Le temps: Beaucoup de choses sont dites sur les conditions climatiques en Aout. Alors une bonne fois pour toute est ce que les gens qui ont vécu en Aout en Thaïlande peuvent témoigner du temps à: Bangkok Chang Mai Ko samui Doit on s'attendre à un temps pourri ou à du beau temps parsemé de quelques averses?
L'avion : Est il bien plus intéressant financièrement de réserver son billet d'avion pour un vol intérieur dès maintenant ou est ce que je peux tranquillement attendre mon arrivée pour le prendre? Partant en mode routard, réserver mon billet trop à l'avance sans savoir de quoi sera fait mon séjour m'ennuie un peu

Je vais (enfin !!!) découvrir ce fabuleux pays pour la première fois la semaine prochaine et avant de partir, j'aurais quelques petites questions : Appareil photos : Je compte partir seule avec 2 appareils photos numériques (1 bridge et 1 compacte) mais j'ai lu dans divers guide que la douane n'acceptait qu'un seul appareil par personne... est ce vrai ? Je voudrais amener des petits cadeaux pour les gens que je pourrais rencontrer au fil de mon voyage, que me conseillez vous ? Faut-il prévoir plutôt une paire de chaussures de rando pour le nord ou simplement des bonnes baskets ? (je fais un circuit avec un TO)
