Is the Mumbai/Goa ferry connection still running?
Hi there,
I’m trying to find out if it’s still possible to travel from Mumbai to Goa by ferry or any other sea route. My search results aren’t very clear, and if it *is* possible, I can’t figure out where to book... If anyone has any info, I’d really appreciate it—thanks in advance!
Have a great day,
Virginie

Sightseeing and getting around in Hauz Khas - Delhi
Hey fellow travelers,
I’m spending two weeks studying Hindi in the mornings in Delhi, in the Hauz Khas neighborhood. What spots should I check out in this area? Any cafés to chill at? How do I get to other parts of Delhi? By rickshaw? Is it easy to negotiate the price upfront?
Thanks in advance. 😊 Marlène

Driving to India via Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the Silk Road
hello fellow travelers
For my golden years, I'd like to drive to India in my 508. I want to avoid Iran and Pakistan. Instead, I’m thinking of going through Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, then taking the ferry from Baku to Türkmenbaşy in Turkmenistan, followed by the Silk Road through Central Asia—Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
After that, China? I’ve seen that some travelers manage to drive through China with their own vehicle... Then Tibet, Nepal, and India... But things get tricky with the Himalayan crossing. I’ve checked on Google—it looks tough.
Any tips or info on these routes? Thanks

What's the best way to get around Northern India?
Hi,
I’m leaving this Saturday for Northern India from 15/02 to 27/02. I’m planning to visit New Delhi, Agra, Chand Baori, Jaipur, Ranthambore, Bundi, Udaipur, and Jodhpur.
What’s the best way to get around? I was thinking of doing everything by train. Maybe taking the bus for some stretches?
As for renting a car with a driver, it seems expensive, so I’ve pretty much ruled that out. Unless someone’s got space for the same dates?
Thanks for your insights!

Uttarakhand Trip Report
Hi everyone,
I’d like to share some photos from my trip to Uttarakhand in June 2025.
It’s a destination that isn’t too crowded, which I chose at the last minute last year due to the skirmishes between India and Pakistan. I had planned to go to Ladakh and Zanskar, but as a precaution, I changed my plans...
Here’s a quick rundown of my itinerary: Delhi - Rishikesh - Uttarkashi - Gangotri - Haridwar - Devprayag - Ranikhet - Delhi.
Throughout my trip, I only came across a few Western tourists, and only in Rishikesh...
I was really surprised in Rishikesh, where I saw unbelievable traffic jams just to get in and out of the city! It was my first real glimpse of domestic tourism in India—when all the city-dwellers escape the summer heat for the cooler mountains...
The crowds of pilgrims in Haridwar, coming to purify themselves in the Ganges on the ghats, were just as intense as what you see in Varanasi. Fascinating and... colorful!
The small town of Devprayag is interesting because it’s located at the confluence of the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers, which form the Ganges. The spot is popular with pilgrims who come to purify themselves there.
I made sure to visit the remote village of Gangotri, located on the Bhagirathi River. Just a few kilometers away, the river’s source flows from the glacier at Gaumukh (only accessible on foot after an 18 km trek). It’s an important pilgrimage site in India, as one of the sources of the Ganges.
All in all, Uttarakhand was a wonderful discovery and gave me a chance to see new sides of India.

Guest houses in Srinagar
We’ll be in Srinagar for 4 days in mid-May 2026 during our backpacking trip as a couple. Do you have any nice places to recommend, and what about the houseboats on Dal Lake? Should we spend all our nights there, or just one night for practicality when getting around?
Thanks,
Rozenn
Rajasthan and Agra for two weeks in March 2026
Hi everyone,
Second trip to India (15 years later 🙂!!) during the last two weeks of March 2026. Arriving in Delhi for a trip that’s not really planned out—Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Agra, maybe more!!... No set duration for stops or a precise order.
If any traveler happens to be around... It’d be great to share a leg of the journey and a travel moment!!
I see some folks had trouble with the e-visa? I haven’t done mine yet—how’s it going???
Thanks, see you soon.

Zanskar Crossing Summer 2026: Can it be done independently or is a guide necessary?
Hi there,
I’m planning to do the Zanskar crossing from Lamayuru to Darcha in August 2026.
I know the route has changed quite a bit in recent years, and I’m struggling to find reliable info on whether it’s possible to do this trek independently with just two people—sleeping and eating with locals each day.
I’m also open to hiring a muleteer or going through an agency, so I’d love any recent and trustworthy recommendations on that too.
Thanks in advance,
Jean-Marc
Do you know a nice restaurant in Kochi?
I'm looking for a small, not-too-touristy restaurant in Fort Kochi. Do you know one not too far from Jacob Road?
Thanks

Visa for transit in India
Hi there,
We’re a group of 7 people heading to SRI LANKA in March.
We’re transiting through Mumbai (Air India flight), then after a few hours, we’ll take a SriLankan Airlines flight to Colombo.
The return trip follows the same route 26 days later.
The issue is about the Indian visa.
1- Do we need an Indian visa since we’ll only be at Mumbai Airport for a few hours (no checked baggage)?
2- Do we need a double-entry visa?
Thanks for your help—everything I’ve read online is pretty unclear.

Expected completion date for renovation work at the Meenakshi Temple in Madurai
Hi there,
We’re heading to India in March 2026 and had planned to visit the parts of the Meenakshi Temple that are open to non-Hindus. However, the temple is currently undergoing major renovations—with all the towers covered in scaffolding—which might really take away from the experience and our stop in Madurai.
After some frustrating and vague online searches, and before we reshuffle our itinerary, I’d love to know—if possible—the most accurate expected completion date for the renovation work.
Thanks in advance.

India e-visa payment issue
Hi, I really struggled to fill out the e-visa form. I uploaded my passport and everything correctly, but when it came to payment, it failed three times (on different devices). I'm a bit disheartened and don’t know what to do next. Is using PayPal a better solution?

3 weeks in Tamil Nadu (South India) from Nov 30 to Dec 20, 2025
We’re a couple aged 58 and 63. We’ve just returned from a wonderful trip to South India in Tamil Nadu and a few days in Kerala. We traveled with a local French-speaking guide and his friend, the driver. They both live in Pondicherry. We spent 3 weeks with them in the most authentic way!
We covered just over 2,500 km and visited not only temples but also archaeological sites, museums, and small artisanal businesses making tiles, tea, sculptures, bronze, and silk spinning. We were lucky enough to visit a public school, attend a wedding, and even a death announcement in a small countryside village. We were fully immersed in the culture, food, noise, and colors—it was incredible!
The hotels and guesthouses we chose were very clean and mostly quiet. We’re returning from India with amazing discoveries!
We’re happy to share more info if you’d like! M-Claire and Jean

SIM Card + Transport Reservations in Tamil Nadu and Kerala
Hi everyone,
we’re heading to Tamil Nadu and Kerala at the start of the year for 30 days. We did Rajasthan 12 years ago, but things change fast.
I’ve read that to get a SIM card, you have to buy it at a shop and then go to the operator to get a number; you’d also need an Indian mobile number. Has anyone here had recent experience with this?
For buses and trains, do you need to book them well in advance?
Any tips are welcome—thanks in advance!
Happy holidays to all,
Philippe
