Je suis en train de préparer mon prochain voyage. Cette fois la destination sera la Croatie, pour la première fois!
Mes questions: Quels sont les meilleurs mois pour profiter des plages? L'Ile de Brak, c'est comment? L'accesibilité? Quels sont les lieux historique à privilégier? Biensûr Dubrovnik, mais encore! il m'est venu une idée...
le dossier pour mon bus ayant reçu toutes les autorisations necessaires a sa mise en construction, je me suis dit que si plusieurs etait lancés en fabrication en méme temps, les couts seraient limités (achats des équipements en gros, modification des carrosseries en serie, menuiseries en serie, etc). plusieurs vehicules identique au mien etant disponibles (j'ai trouvé un nid!) au meme endroit, les travaux pourraient commencer rapidement, ce qui assure d'en profiter dès cet été!
voici le descriptif du projet ayant reçu l'accord des mines :
12 m de long 2, 5 m de large chassis daf MK 205 de 280 cv turbo-diesel 6 vitesses carrosserie HEULIEZ environ 400 000 KM (conçu pour faire 1 000 000 km) 8 places assises + chauffeur 6 couchages:1 de 2 places permanent (chambre1)2 de 1 place supperposés permanents (chambre2)2 de 1 place modulaires (salon avant)
soute de rangement avec rampe moto a l'arriere du bus4 m² au sol environ (2, 4 m de large-1, 6 m de prof. sur toute la hauteur)

Le risque de se faire dépouiller par des "bandits" sur la route N7 en descendant dans le sud est-il bien réel ? Des témoignages parlent de raquette sur les taxis brousses ? Pour ceux et celles qui ont voyagés là bas, qu'avez vous à répondre ? Peut-on voyager seul sur l'île en toute sécurité ou bien doit-on se prémunir d'une arme par exemple. Enfin, ses personnes là sont-elles prêtent à tout! Comme vous tuez pour presque rien.

La Feijoada brésilienne English translation pending
Vous êtes comme moi un fan des plats mijotés et vous voulez changer des traditionnels cassoulets, boeufs bourguignons et autres blanquettes ?
Voici de quoi épater et régaler votre famille et vos amis : la FEIJOADA brésilienne !
A- LE MARCHé : Ingrédients pour 10 personnes (ah, ben oui, vous allez rameuter du monde avec ça) : Nota : recette adaptée à un marché "à l'européenne/canadienne", mais bonne comme là bas, dit ! 1 kg de haricots noirs 1 kg de viande de bœuf séchée 250 g d’oreille et de queue de porc 2 pieds de porc 500 g de saucisses de porc 2 à 3 saucisses fumées 600g de côtes de porc ou de palette fumée 500 g de viande de porc salée (collet ou filet) 200 g de lard 1 kg de riz 10 feuilles de brocoli 1 kg de farine de manioc 8 oranges, 3 citrons verts 1 bouquet de coriandre 1 piment rouge 1 tasse d’huile d’olive Quelques feuilles de laurier Persil, 4 gousses d’ail, 4 oignons Sel, beurre ou margarine
B/ AU BOULOT !
1- La veille, faites tremper les haricots noirs et les viandes salées et séchées dans des récipients séparés. 2- L'eau de dessalage des viandes doit être renouvelée plusieurs fois. 3- Le lendemain, coupez les viandes en morceaux et faites-les bouillir après en avoir enlevé les parties grasses. 4- Faites cuire les haricots pendant 1 h dans une grande quantité d’eau. 5- Ajoutez les viandes dessalés, les abats, puis le lard et la viande de porc. 6- Laissez cuire 45 mn. Ajoutez les saucisses, 2 gousse d’ail pilées, 2 oignons hachés, le laurier et la coriandre. 7- Laissez cuire le tout pendant 1 h. 8- Lavez et coupez les feuilles de brocoli en les roulant. Dans une passoire, arrosez-les d’eau bouillante et égouttez !
A TABLE !
Pour accompagner ça, je vous conseille du riz blanc et en ce qui concerne le vin, un bon Minervois ou bien un solide Bergerac feront parfaitement l'affaire ! N'oubliez pas la caipirinha à l'apéro et avec ça vous êtes à Rio !
Bien entendu, c'est encore meilleur réchauffé à feu très doux.
Si avec ça vous avez prévu de la caipirinha et un disque de salsa à l'apéro... vous serez récompensés par les yeux humides et reconnaissants de vos convives. C'est le Brésil à la maison !

Bonjour tout le monde!!!! Je suis particulièrement attirée par l'Afrique noire mais je n'y suis jamais allée. De plus je suis révoltée contre tous les problèmes qui touchent ce continent... famine, sida, autres maladies, guerres et pauvreté.... C'est pour cette raison que j'aimerai faire une séjour en afrique avec si possible un but humanitaire mais voila le problème: j'ai 16 ans donc mineure. Quelques recettes chinoises English translation pending
Coucou,
Après avoir lu la recette du porc au caramel de Lepiaf, j'ai cru comprendre que des recettes asiatiques faciles à faire intéressaient un certain nombre de gens. Donc je vous copie ici une série de recettes que j'avais rassemblées en un document pour des amies. Au programme, boeuf aux champignons noirs, boeuf à la chinoise, poulet ou crevettes à l'ananas, poulet ou crevettes au curry, et poulet aux noix de cajou. L'accent a été mis (à part pour le boeuf) sur la simplicité de réalisation. Poulet aux noix de cajouCuisson : 10 min Préparation : 15 min
½ c. à café de maïzena ½ blanc d'oeuf 1.5 cuillère à soupe de vin blanc sec 2 blancs de poulet, coupés en petits morceaux 1 c. à soupe d'huile 1 ciboule hachée ½ poivron vert, coupé en dés 65g de pousses de bambou en conserve, égouttées et coupées en lanières ½ c. à soupe de sauce soja 65g de noix de cajou non salées
Délayez la maïzena et l'oeuf dans deux cuillères à soupe de vin blanc
Passez le poulet dans ce mélange.
Faites chauffer l'huile dans une poêle. Ajoutez la ciboule et faites revenir 30 secondes tout en tournant.[
Incorporez le poulet et faites cuire 3 minutes. Ajoutez le reste des ingrédients et laissez cuire encore 5 minutes.
Disposez sur un plat de service chaud et servez immédiatement
Remarques : C’est plus joli avec un poivron jaune Le seul endroit ou j’ai jamais vu de noix de cajou non salées, c’est au Paris Store Pour l’ail comme la ciboulette, c’est Ducros qui se décarcasse 😛
Boeuf mariné à la chinoise
Préparation : 5 mn Cuisson : environ 5 mn
Ingrédients pour 2 personnes: 200/250 g de viande de boeuf coupée en lamelles 4 cuillères à soupe de sauce soja 4 cuillères à soupe de Pineau rouge 1 gousse d'ail écrasée ou hachée très finement 1 cuillère à café de graines de coriandre écrasées ou de gingembre râpé
Mélanger les ingrédients dans un plat creux pour faire mariner la viande et laisser en attente 15 minutes minimum.
Faire cuire la viande dans un wok bien chaud et servir avec des nouilles chinoises, le tout agrémenté de coriandre fraîche ou de graines de sésame grillées (ou les deux).
Cette recette était à l'origine prévue pour du saumon mais nous avons trouvé qu'elle fonctionnait aussi très bien ainsi. Il faut faire attention à ne pas trop cuire le boeuf pour qu'il reste tendre. N'hésitez pas à rajouter votre/vos épice(s) préférée(s) avec la coriandre.
Remarques : Un wok n’est pas nécessaire, une poêle pas trop plate fait pour quasiment toutes les recettes très bien l’affaire Tu as eu droit à mon premier essai, je pense c’est un peu sec et qu’il faut voir à faire en sorte qu’il y ai plus de sauce Nouilles ou riz, c’est pareil, si tu prépare ça pour pas mal de personnes, fait un peu des deux 🙂

Ingrédients : 250 à 450 gr de viande de boeuf Écrasez une gousse d'ail 50 à 100 grammes de champignons noirs (fongus) que vous tremperez dans l'eau tiède durant deux heures Un oignon 2 tranches de gingembre coupées en fines lamelles 2 cuillères à soupe de sauce soja Du sel et du poivre
Coupez la viande en tranches fines Ajoutez 1 cuillère à café de fécule de maïs ou de manioc, 1 cuillère à café de bicarbonate de soude (à ras), 2 cuillères à soupe de sauce soja, la gousse d'ail, le gingembre, 2 cuillères à soupe d’huile, 6 cuillères à soupe d'eau, du sel, laissez macérer une heure
Placez la viande dans une assiette et faites-les cuire à la vapeur 15 à 20 minutes.
Remarques : Je n’ai fait qu’un essai pour l’instant, c’est la recette la plus compliquée Même problème que pour le bœuf à la chinoise, c’est facilement un peu sec Je ne l’ai pas fait cuire à la vapeur, j’ai juste utilisé une casserole, ça a fait l’affaire On trouve des champignons noirs séchés un peu partout, j’ai récupéré une boite marche Auchan (achetée au Rond point) où ils sont découpés en petits morceaux que j’utilise aussi souvent pour garnir les nouilles, ou à défaut le riz 🙂
Poulet à l’ananas
Ingrédients (quantités indicatives): du poulet un oignon (pour 4 personnes, sinon ½) 1 poivron rouge et 1 poivron vert (pour 4, sinon 1 seul) de l’ananas (le plus simple, c’est les boites de conserves, surtout les paquets de trois petites boites de rondelles… la quantité devient alors 1 boite pour 4 personnes, 2 dès qu’un peu plus)Sauce aigre douce (je conseille la marque Lee Kum Lee, mais Suzy Wan donne des résultats acceptables également)
Couper le poulet en dés, éventuellement le fariner, faire frire dans une poêle
Couper les poivrons et l’oignon en fines lamelles, l’ananas en morceaux, les rajouter dans la poêle dès que le poulet est cuit.
Verser la sauce aigre douce, recouvrir, mélanger le tout, baisser le feu au minimum et laisser mijoter.
Remarques : Ma recette préférée, je la décris de mémoire. La sauce Lee Kum Lee est plus sucrée que la Suzy Wan, ne pas noyer le poulet avec, dans les deux cas un pot c'est souvent juste ce qu'il faut (les tailles sont différentes 😛) Cette recette marche aussi très bien avec des crevettes, il faudra juste veiller à ne pas les prendre trop petites.
Crevettes au curry
Ingrédients : sauce curry crevettes
Décortiquer et fariner les crevettes, faire frire, rajouter la sauce, laisser mijoter.
Remarques :Marche très bien avec du poulet aussi. D'ailleurs avec du poulet y'a plein de sauces dans les supermarchés qui font des plats variés, bons, et super simples à faire Les crevettes ne doivent pas être petites. Eventuellement utiliser des gambas, quitte à les couper en deux. Tant qu’à faire, acheter les crevettes décortiquées, celles préparées pour les cocktails sont juste bien😛

Poulet à l’ananas
Ingrédients (quantités indicatives): du poulet un oignon (pour 4 personnes, sinon ½) 1 poivron rouge et 1 poivron vert (pour 4, sinon 1 seul) de l’ananas (le plus simple, c’est les boites de conserves, surtout les paquets de trois petites boites de rondelles… la quantité devient alors 1 boite pour 4 personnes, 2 dès qu’un peu plus)Sauce aigre douce (je conseille la marque Lee Kum Lee, mais Suzy Wan donne des résultats acceptables également)
Couper le poulet en dés, éventuellement le fariner, faire frire dans une poêle
Couper les poivrons et l’oignon en fines lamelles, l’ananas en morceaux, les rajouter dans la poêle dès que le poulet est cuit.
Verser la sauce aigre douce, recouvrir, mélanger le tout, baisser le feu au minimum et laisser mijoter.
Remarques : Ma recette préférée, je la décris de mémoire. La sauce Lee Kum Lee est plus sucrée que la Suzy Wan, ne pas noyer le poulet avec, dans les deux cas un pot c'est souvent juste ce qu'il faut (les tailles sont différentes 😛) Cette recette marche aussi très bien avec des crevettes, il faudra juste veiller à ne pas les prendre trop petites.
Crevettes au curry
Ingrédients : sauce curry crevettes
Décortiquer et fariner les crevettes, faire frire, rajouter la sauce, laisser mijoter.
Remarques :Marche très bien avec du poulet aussi. D'ailleurs avec du poulet y'a plein de sauces dans les supermarchés qui font des plats variés, bons, et super simples à faire Les crevettes ne doivent pas être petites. Eventuellement utiliser des gambas, quitte à les couper en deux. Tant qu’à faire, acheter les crevettes décortiquées, celles préparées pour les cocktails sont juste bien😛

L'esperanto, à quoi ça sert, qui le parle, ... des questions que l'on entend souvent, alors je vais leur apporter quelques réponses...
Qui le parle ? Plusieurs millions de personnes. 3 millions d'après esperanto-france, 6 millions d'après le livre des records, certains vont même jusqu'à dire 15 millions. Le nombre exact est très dur à savoir, d'autant qu'il y a actellement un développement important de la langue en Afrique, Asie, ...
A quoi ça sert ? A vous de choisir ! Moi ce qui me plait le plus, c'est de pouvoir parler très rapidement avec des personnes du monde entier, beaucoup plus facilement qu'avec l'anglais par exemple. Un aspect que les utilisateurs de ce site apprécieront surement c'est la possibilité de voyager un peu partout. Il y a de nombreuses rencontres qui ont lieu un peu partout dans le monde à tout instant, et qui réunissent des centaines, voire des milliers de participants des quatre coins du globe.
Je viens par exemple de rentrer d'une petite rencontre organisée par des français d'une semaine à Orléans où nous étions 57 participants, dont des russes, des roumaines, des italiens, une anglaise, des allemands, un belge, un danois, ... Mais il y a aussi eu IJK (Internacia Junulara Kongreso : congrès international jeunes) en Russie, UK (Universala Kongreso) à Pékin, ... A UK par exemple à Varsovie il y avait plus de 5000 participants ("partoprenantoj" en esperanto). Il y a de nombreuses grandes rencontres tous les ans (IJS, IS en Allemagne, KISO, ...) qui permettent de voir du pays et des gens. Le programme classique d'une rencontre c'est le matin des ateliers (a FESTO par exemple on avait dessin, théatre, faire un petit film, ...), l'après midi du sport, de la découverte de la région (à FESTO on a fait du canoë, de l'accrobranche, on a visité le château de Chambord, ...), après des "prelegoj" (exposés ou débats, ... à FESTO un mathématicien nous a présenté la 4ème dimension, on a eu un exposé sur les MST, un débat sur le totalitarisme, des cours de dessin, un exposé sur l'Ido, ...), et le soir de la fête (à FESTO on a eu deux concerts, du théatre fait par des pros, ... le tout en esperanto bien sûr !)... Plutôt pas aml quand on sait que FESTO a été préparé par une bande de jeunes et que le sigle lui-même veut dire "Franca Esperanta Semajno Terure Organizita" : Semaine française esperantiste horriblement organisée :)
Un autre aspect apprécié des voyageurs est le "pasporta servo" : allez sur le site http://www.tejo.org/ps/, choisissez un pays, et vous aurez une liste d'esperantistes proposant de vous héberger gratuitement pendant plusieurs nuits ! Vous voulez vous faire un tour du monde ? Vous aurez des contacts et un logement à toutes vos étapes ! Une façon agréable de prendre contact et de voir la vie véritable des gens du pays visité !
C'est long à apprendre ce truc ? D'après l'institut de cybernétique de paderborn, il faut environ 1500h d'anglais pour le niveau Bac, 150h pour l'esperanto... Juste un petit exemple que j'ai vu la semaine dernière durant la rencontre : trois jeunes italiennes qui ne parlaient pas du tout esperanto en arrivant à FESTO, au bout d'une journée elles commençaient à comprendre la langue car la grammaire est évidente (par exemple les verbes au présent se termine par -as, les noms par -o, les adjectifs par -a, donc on comprend vite la phrase "la floro estas bela"), et au bout d'une semaine elles comprenaient très bien et pouvaient participer activement à une conversation ! En apprenant cette langue 4 ans au collége 1h par semaine je la parle et après avoir du l'arréter pendant 6 ans je la comprend et parle mieux que l'anglais que j'étudie depuis 10 ans ! Ca a une culture ce machin ? Eh oui ! et même une histoire très mouvementée : combattue par les régimes fascites et totalitaires, avec remaniements, ... Une littérature ? 33000 ouvrages traduits, une littérature originale importante ! De la musique ? Du rock, de la techno, ... et même brassens traduit en esperanto ! Ce qui est intéressant c'est que ça donne beaucoup plus un contact culturel que l'anglais (enfin c'est ce que j'ai personnellement éprouvé), parce qu'on apprend cette langue pour le plaisir et le contact, pas parcequ'on nous l'impose.
Voilà, j'espère que certains d'entre vous seront intéressés par cette manière très agréable de découvrir le monde et les pays étrangers, et sachez que si vous avez moins de 30 ans et adhérez à Esperanto-jeunes france vous avez droit à une aide de 100 euros pour votre première rencontre internationale (je pense qu'ils font pareil à esperanto france). Lars Forman, professeur de langues : "Comme professeur de langues, j'étais très sceptique à propos de l'espéranto jusqu'à ce que je me trouve, il y a quelques années, devant un groupe de professeurs d'espéranto afin de faire une conférence sur la pédagogie des langues. Je constatais alors que cette langue que l'on dit "artificielle" était utilisée avec élégance par les participants entre eux et aujourd'hui -- après avoir été professeur depuis quatre ans à l'École Supérieure Populaire de Karlskoga, dans la section Espéranto --, je sais qu'elle fonctionne aussi bien que toute autre langue."

L'esperanto, à quoi ça sert, qui le parle, ... des questions que l'on entend souvent, alors je vais leur apporter quelques réponses...
Qui le parle ? Plusieurs millions de personnes. 3 millions d'après esperanto-france, 6 millions d'après le livre des records, certains vont même jusqu'à dire 15 millions. Le nombre exact est très dur à savoir, d'autant qu'il y a actellement un développement important de la langue en Afrique, Asie, ...
A quoi ça sert ? A vous de choisir ! Moi ce qui me plait le plus, c'est de pouvoir parler très rapidement avec des personnes du monde entier, beaucoup plus facilement qu'avec l'anglais par exemple. Un aspect que les utilisateurs de ce site apprécieront surement c'est la possibilité de voyager un peu partout. Il y a de nombreuses rencontres qui ont lieu un peu partout dans le monde à tout instant, et qui réunissent des centaines, voire des milliers de participants des quatre coins du globe.
Je viens par exemple de rentrer d'une petite rencontre organisée par des français d'une semaine à Orléans où nous étions 57 participants, dont des russes, des roumaines, des italiens, une anglaise, des allemands, un belge, un danois, ... Mais il y a aussi eu IJK (Internacia Junulara Kongreso : congrès international jeunes) en Russie, UK (Universala Kongreso) à Pékin, ... A UK par exemple à Varsovie il y avait plus de 5000 participants ("partoprenantoj" en esperanto). Il y a de nombreuses grandes rencontres tous les ans (IJS, IS en Allemagne, KISO, ...) qui permettent de voir du pays et des gens. Le programme classique d'une rencontre c'est le matin des ateliers (a FESTO par exemple on avait dessin, théatre, faire un petit film, ...), l'après midi du sport, de la découverte de la région (à FESTO on a fait du canoë, de l'accrobranche, on a visité le château de Chambord, ...), après des "prelegoj" (exposés ou débats, ... à FESTO un mathématicien nous a présenté la 4ème dimension, on a eu un exposé sur les MST, un débat sur le totalitarisme, des cours de dessin, un exposé sur l'Ido, ...), et le soir de la fête (à FESTO on a eu deux concerts, du théatre fait par des pros, ... le tout en esperanto bien sûr !)... Plutôt pas aml quand on sait que FESTO a été préparé par une bande de jeunes et que le sigle lui-même veut dire "Franca Esperanta Semajno Terure Organizita" : Semaine française esperantiste horriblement organisée :)
Un autre aspect apprécié des voyageurs est le "pasporta servo" : allez sur le site http://www.tejo.org/ps/, choisissez un pays, et vous aurez une liste d'esperantistes proposant de vous héberger gratuitement pendant plusieurs nuits ! Vous voulez vous faire un tour du monde ? Vous aurez des contacts et un logement à toutes vos étapes ! Une façon agréable de prendre contact et de voir la vie véritable des gens du pays visité !
C'est long à apprendre ce truc ? D'après l'institut de cybernétique de paderborn, il faut environ 1500h d'anglais pour le niveau Bac, 150h pour l'esperanto... Juste un petit exemple que j'ai vu la semaine dernière durant la rencontre : trois jeunes italiennes qui ne parlaient pas du tout esperanto en arrivant à FESTO, au bout d'une journée elles commençaient à comprendre la langue car la grammaire est évidente (par exemple les verbes au présent se termine par -as, les noms par -o, les adjectifs par -a, donc on comprend vite la phrase "la floro estas bela"), et au bout d'une semaine elles comprenaient très bien et pouvaient participer activement à une conversation ! En apprenant cette langue 4 ans au collége 1h par semaine je la parle et après avoir du l'arréter pendant 6 ans je la comprend et parle mieux que l'anglais que j'étudie depuis 10 ans ! Ca a une culture ce machin ? Eh oui ! et même une histoire très mouvementée : combattue par les régimes fascites et totalitaires, avec remaniements, ... Une littérature ? 33000 ouvrages traduits, une littérature originale importante ! De la musique ? Du rock, de la techno, ... et même brassens traduit en esperanto ! Ce qui est intéressant c'est que ça donne beaucoup plus un contact culturel que l'anglais (enfin c'est ce que j'ai personnellement éprouvé), parce qu'on apprend cette langue pour le plaisir et le contact, pas parcequ'on nous l'impose.
Voilà, j'espère que certains d'entre vous seront intéressés par cette manière très agréable de découvrir le monde et les pays étrangers, et sachez que si vous avez moins de 30 ans et adhérez à Esperanto-jeunes france vous avez droit à une aide de 100 euros pour votre première rencontre internationale (je pense qu'ils font pareil à esperanto france). je pars lundi pour un mois en indonésie et j'aurais besoin de vos lumière concernant le stockage de vos photos pendant votre périple. C'est la première fois que je pars avec un appareil photo numérique et je me demandais comment faire pour stocker mes photos et ainsi pouvoir réutiliser ma carte mémoire. Est-il possible d'aller dans des cybercafes et graver sur cédérom les photos ? dois-je emporter mes pilotes ? Y-a-til des bornes interactives permettant de graver ses photos sur cédérom dans certaines boutiques photos ? etc

Nous sommes polonais qui veulent connaitre France.Moi, je m`apelle Adam(20ans, etudiant a l`Academie de Musique) et mon copain c`est Krzysztof(Chris, 30ans, professeur).
Nous avons quelques questiones, et nous serons tres heureux et reconnaissant si vous repondrez.
Mon premier question: est-ce que l`autoroute entre Strasbourg et Mulhouse est salariee? Si oui, ce combien?Nous n`avons pas de budget tres grand, alors nous ne comptons pas aller de l`autoroute salariee.
Mon second question:ou nous pouvons chercher du travaille au moi de juillet, dans les villes suivantes(et autres villes entres eux):Colmar, Mulhouse, Besancon, Poligny, Lyon, Le Puy-en-Velay, Millau et Castres.Nous voulons travailler en aident a la maison et au champs et nous ne voulons pas du argent, seulement un logement et quelque chose a manger.S`il y a une personne qui a besoin de notre aide nous la prions de contacter avec nous.

Bangkok: Loger dans le chinatown? English translation pending
À un mois de mon départ je me questionne sur le choix de la situation de mon hotel. Au coeur du chinatown le Grand china princess me semblait tout indiqué à cause de sa situation géographique. Très proche du grand palais, et 10 min. de la chao praya, côté pratique, parfait. En 4 jours il faut voir le maximum, est-ce que vous avez logé dans ce quartier? est-ce vraiment un bon choix (hôtel 4 étoiles, 4500 bht pour famille de 4, par nuit), pas d'enfants 2 jeunes de 16-18 ans. Je débarque à Paris vers la mi-août. Mon billet d'avion est un aller-simple et j'ai un peu d'argent de côté, alors bonjour l'aventure. J'entretiens le rêve de me rendre jusqu'en Asie, mais je ne me fais pas d'illusions car je suis un cycliste de promenade plutôt qu'un athlète. Je me suis donc donné pour premier objectif de faire Paris-Prague-Budapest-Istanbul. Je préconise un mode de voyage très économique, c'est pourquoi j'aurai tout le nécessaire pour le camping.
Voici les questions que j'adresse aujourd'hui:
1. Est-il raisonnable de penser à pédaler dès mon arrivée à l'aéroport Charles-de-Gaules? C'est-à-dire, est-ce que je tomberai rapidement sur des paysages hospitaliers et propices à dresser une tente, ou alors est-ce que je rêve en couleur et que je devrais plutôt prendre un train pour un petit bout de chemin?
2. Comment puis-je m'informer sur le réseau de pistes cyclable d'europe?
Je suis ouvert à faire un bout de chemin avec d'autres s'il y a des intéressés. Mon itinéraire est loin d'être coulé dans le béton. J'ai toute la vie devant moi, mes seules limites son budgétaires!

Since I don’t have time to come up with an original theme, I’m suggesting a broad, international topic: religious buildings around the world. The cruelty and savagery of Zimbabwe’s (and Africa’s in general) "powerful animals"
Zimbabwean author NoViolet Bulawayo has written a novel that illustrates better than any documentary the complexity of colonial legacy. In doing so, she revisits George Orwell’s Animal Farm. Her novel *Glory* is a political satire about Zimbabwe—and it’s brimming with humor.
For thirty years, Zimbabwe has been stagnating under Robert Mugabe’s presidency. Human rights violations, corruption, and international sanctions have kept the population mired in poverty and oppression, while the regime exploits the meager earnings of the economy. As the 2017 elections approach, a power struggle erupts over the succession of the very elderly Father of the Nation (Mugabe). On the streets, people hope for long-awaited reforms; the people feel their moment has come.
And indeed, the army ousts Mugabe and his wife—"with her Gucci heels" (p.32)—who was positioning herself for the presidency. Hopes are dashed, however. The generals install former vice-president Emmerson Mnangagwa in power; the regime merely changes faces, but the problems remain the same.
In the novel, the country is called "Jidada, with a -da and another -da" (p.1); there’s no mistaking that this fictional state is Zimbabwe.
For *Glory*, her second novel, NoViolet Bulawayo invents a whole series of codes whose strength lies precisely in how easy they are to decipher. Like George Orwell’s Animal Farm, the characters populating Bulawayo’s universe aren’t humans but horses, goats, or crocodiles with all-too-human traits. Mugabe and Mnangagwa are horses, the spiritual leader is a pig, the soldiers are all bloodthirsty dogs, while the populace consists of goats, chickens, donkeys, and cats. The shift to the animal world serves only to better grasp the laws of despotism—and to ridicule real-life models. On one hand, the animals are humanized: they tweet, torture, travel in private jets. On the other, their greed, stupidity, and brutality stem from their animal nature.
It’s the old trick of fable: dressing men in animal disguises to make them easier to recognize. That’s how Orwell, in Animal Farm, traced how the promise of liberation from the Russian Revolution turned into Stalinist terror. In his 1945 fable, George Orwell describes how the animals of a farm drive out their farmer to organize the exploitation themselves, collectively. For a time, they truly taste freedom, but a clique of pigs ends up taking control. The central figures of the Soviet story—Stalin, Trotsky, Molotov—were easily recognizable.
Yet Bulawayo departs sharply from Orwell. She’s less concerned with precision and the force of argument than with satirical exaggeration. The deposed president is a senile old man who believes he can control even the sun’s course. The new stallion in power is a greedy debaucher. His soldiers sniff respectfully at his tail and backside.
In Bulawayo’s *Glory*, things are more complicated, but her novel also tells of a failed, incomplete liberation. In the author’s Animal Farm, Jidada, the colonial exploiters are followed by new forms of oppression. Because the former liberators become tyrants themselves. And because global power dynamics persist in neocolonial structures.
Wouldn’t that be enough to fuel a deeply depressing narrative? No—Bulawayo turns it into a blazing satire, full of wit and uncompromising criticism of power, a thread running through contemporary (not just) Zimbabwean history. The old warhorses in NoViolet Bulawayo’s Jidada, who continue to act as pack leaders, are easily recognizable as caricatures of the longtime dictator Robert Mugabe and his successor, current president Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The plot kicks off in high gear with independence day festivities. From the crack of dawn, everyone waits on Jidada Square for the Old Horse, the Father of the Nation and former liberator, whose reign "was nearing all of—not one, not two, not three, but four solid decades" (p.1). Everywhere, the colors of the Jidada Party shine; everywhere, true supporters cheer. Even the scorching sun plays its part: "At this point the sun, upon seeing arrive the leader who was decreed by God himself to rule and rule and keep ruling, a leader who'd in turn decreed the very sun to head his cheerleading squad, took a deep, deep breath and thoroughly blazed to impress" (p.2).
Finally, the Old Horse’s luxury carriage approaches "with the slowness of a hearse" (p.2), and "hoping to catch a glimpse of the legendary Father of the Nation," which causes "the animals fell over themselves like intoxicated frogs" (p.2). The sovereign’s speech is delayed a moment longer: "what I really want is a nap," groans the Old Horse as he takes his seat with such care "like his backside was made of expensive porcelain" (p.6).
Meanwhile, Bulawayo parades his entourage: the president’s wife (who earns her doctorate at Jidada University faster than "you could say diss, for dissertation. Tholukuthi it was as easy as ordering from a KFC drive-through, or perhaps even easier being that it was cheaper than KFC; it in fact cost her nothing and the degree actually came with a zero-calorie Diet Coke and a purple straw" (p.41), and she’s now known as Dr Sweet Mother. The cabinet includes "the Minister of the Revolution, the Minister of Corruption, the Minister of Order, the Minister of Things, the Minister of Nothing, the Minister of Propaganda, the Minister of Homophobic Affairs, the Minister of Disinformation and the Minister of Looting" (p.9). And of course the vice-president, who will soon become interim president when the Old Horse finally kicks the bucket—and then settle in as the new long-term president, who in the novel is called Tuvius Delight Shasha, or "Tuvy" for short (p.253), none other than Emmerson Mnangagwa. It’s him Bulawayo reserves her most merciless character description for.
"New Dispensation" (p.109) is Tuvy’s slogan for Jidada, and he loves repeating it so much he even named his parrot after it ("So inspired was Tuvy by the realisation that he rechristened his new pet parrot with the name New Dispensation—tholukuthi the bird having been acquired explicitly for the purposes of tweeting eulogies and accordingly glorifying the Saviour throughout the airs and skies of the nation. Tuvy then went on to hire a lecturer in English from the University of Jidada to teach New Dispensation to say the phrase 'New Dispensation'" p.110). But Tuvy’s Zimbabwe remains a nation without free, fair, and credible elections ("#freefairncredibleelection" p.161), and the promised equal treatment applies only insofar as Zimbabweans now queue up without discrimination in endless lines—and everyone is as poor as the next in the "queuenation" (p.283). Except for the powerful. They can "yes, tholukuthi, her immeasurable riches theirs to take. And take they did—
just take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take—take" (p.249-250).
In short: Bulawayo brilliantly depicts how former independence fighters become exploiters themselves. And how the country threatens to suffocate under the weight of corruption and repression. But she also literally stages the polyphony with which the people oppose imposed obedience to the official line.
Controversial online discussions keep interrupting the narrative—dialogues and social threads (see photo below) that Bulawayo masterfully integrates. From a literary standpoint, it’s a brilliant idea. And it shows, above all, that the author’s sympathy—so likeable—goes to all those who refuse to let their dream of true freedom be stolen, not even by the corrupt elites of their own country.
In the book’s acknowledgments, the first tribute goes to "The Jidadas of the world, clamouring for freedom on many fronts—A luta continua." (p.401) This reflects the realization that, not only in Jidada-Zimbabwe but in many other corners of the world, the end of colonial domination is still far from meaning the freedom hoped for by the vast majority of people. But it also means, more broadly, that this freedom must be won "on many fronts" (see above), both domestically and geopolitically.
That’s precisely what *Glory* so vividly highlights: how complex the project behind the term "postcolonialism" really is. With *Glory*, Bulawayo also delivers a scathing critique of the persistence of colonial mindsets in the West.
In the novel, the murder of George Floyd, racist police violence, and white-supremacist ideology in Trump’s United States perfectly illustrate the persistence of racism. It’s especially in the final chapters that Bulawayo lets Jidada’s inhabitants explicitly and unflinchingly criticize a neocolonial world order:
"It was not lost on us how the West, which loved to 'save' Africa and announce every action to the whole world, did so with one limb while manipulating, looting and fleecing us with the rest of its limbs so that more money in fact poured out of the continent than trickled in." (p.376)
"It was no mistake that multinational corporations yearly reaped and shipped colossal profits from Africa back to their countries as had been the case during colonial times. Even the sticks and stones would tell you that the African earth at any given time howled and shook and heaved from the extraction of its precious minerals that rarely benefited its own miserable children." (p.376)
"(...) we vowed to wage yet another war for Africa's second Liberation from neocolonial oppression. From exploitation. From plunder. From Western dominion. From indignity. From Abuse. We wanted real freedom. We wanted greedy, thieving paws off our wealth. We wanted Justice. We wanted a new world; we wanted a brand-new world so much we didn't sleep a wink that night." (p.377)
The Jidadas of this world must fight two enemies: Western neocolonialism and the autocratic instrumentalization of that argument; the persistence of Western racism and the populist appropriation of that humiliation by tyrants from their own ranks. Neither of these obstacles to freedom diminishes the historical and current guilt of the other. But the path to postcolonial liberation must overcome all these forms of oppression. After all, the colonizers didn’t bequeath democracies to formerly dominated nations, but instability and the principles of oppression and exploitation—which the so-called liberators have also internalized. Yet the fact that a satirical novel can capture the complexity of historical relationships while remaining, despite all the darkness of the subject, hilarious—well, that’s truly astonishing.
Finally, *Glory* ties into a major trauma in Zimbabwe’s post-independence history: the so-called Gukurahundi massacres. Between 1983 and 1987, tens of thousands of civilians were murdered by Mugabe’s bloody henchmen, most of them Ndebele. The State Security Minister and head of secret services at the time? You guessed it—Emmerson Mnangagwa.
When *Glory* turns to the massacres, the novel’s tone shifts completely. The story is now told through the narrative of the goat called Destiny, who, like NoViolet Bulawayo herself, left her home country at 18 for the United States and only returned after 13 years. In the book, the city of Bulawayo becomes a village where Destiny retraces her family’s history—and learns that part of it was also brutally murdered during the massacres.
The abuse of power and life under a dictatorship, dispossession, and a fiercely proud awareness of the psychological wounds and emotional vulnerability of a uprooted and disenfranchised people who had to forge a new language—a new set of names—to express their lived experiences are at the heart of this wonderful Zimbabwean author’s literary work, NoViolet Bulawayo. Shortly after her studies, she was already writing short stories about postcolonial power dynamics in Africa. But her playful, masterful, and often unconventional approach to language also plays a key role in her work. With virtuosity, she shifts from cynical images of power-obsessed elites to compassionate descriptions of the people’s suffering, ending with a hopeful sermon on courage—the courage to break free from fear and thus gain the strength for change ("And every one of them understood that whatever they heard within those hearts was the new national anthem, tholukuthi an anthem that spoke of the kind of glory that burns eternal and glows with living light." p.400). After years of hoping, waiting, planning, then changing, saving, and searching for the best possible route... we're FINALLY off this summer for a 5-week road trip in the West.
I had planned a trip to Colorado in 2021 but canceled due to COVID, so with time passing and my eldest’s high school graduation approaching fast, I figured it was now or never!
Anyway, the itinerary has been modified and extended to please everyone (I’m no longer the only one making decisions!!)

We’ll be alternating between house swaps, motels, and campgrounds. I’ve booked all the accommodations (except the campground at Bryce since sunset bookings open only 14 days in advance) and the first activities, as well as the most touristy ones.
I’m currently putting together my day-by-day roadbook and having some trouble planning certain days, like in LA or Las Vegas. Choosing hikes isn’t easy either—it’s tough to decide!
We’re really excited but could definitely use your help with choices and optimizations!!
I had planned a trip to Colorado in 2021 but canceled due to COVID, so with time passing and my eldest’s high school graduation approaching fast, I figured it was now or never!

The Foam of Days
Now that the curtain has fallen on the past year, it’s time to see what’s happening around here.
It seems pretty quiet, but I’ll read more in detail later.
First, I need to tell you all an anecdote.
My eldest little girl, in her third year of law school, was really scared she wouldn’t pass the year. I told her: “Trust yourself, you’ve worked so hard, and worst case, if you fail, you’ll just redo the year.” “But I don’t think I’ll make it—they changed the rules, and if I mess up even one unit, I have to start all over.” I knew her grades weren’t exactly stellar, and with what I was about to say, I wasn’t taking much of a risk. “Here’s the deal, sweetheart: if you pass, I promise I’ll take you to India, just the two of us.” I have to admit, India is a country I’ve talked about so much to all my grandchildren that in their minds, it’s become a magical, mythical place (hmm).
July had barely begun when my phone rang, her name flashing on the screen. “Mamido, I did it!” My promise came rushing back—oh no, oh no, oh no! “Congratulations, sweetheart!” A little shyly, she said: “Is the India trip still on?”
And me, replying: “Of course it is!”
And that’s that—a promise is a promise, or you risk losing that precious trust that keeps hearts warm and at peace.
We’re leaving in February. Only 8 days—yikes, the carbon footprint! But we can’t miss her tutorials, or she’ll be kicked out. Personally, that works just fine for me.
Going to India has become a challenge for me. It’s far, it’s exhausting, I sweat, I hate mosquitoes, the spices bother my mouth when I used to love them. There’s noise all the time—at night, the dogs bark nonstop, and we almost get run over. I’ll get lost in the streets because my sense of direction has vanished. I don’t like rice anymore. All that chaos and those cultural differences that once enchanted me now just overwhelm me. But I promised.
The upside—and it’s a big one—Raman, the same driver I’ve had forever, will be at the airport with a sign with our names. We’ll stop at the same little shop for chai (or tea, plain and simple) with that aroma that intoxicates me, halfway through the trip.
It’ll be a tiny trip—staying with friends, I’ll show her a few places I love: Chidambaram, Mamallapuram, and the clinic where I worked. Then we’ll head back. My little girl will go home to her parents.
As for me, I’ll leave right away for our Scottish island with Homme for our chilly winter.

Three beautiful weeks during the Japanese autumn
I’m sharing our three-week trip to Japan from late October to mid-November 2025. There were four of us—my partner and a couple of friends.
I’ve traveled often with my friend Christian (Bolivia, Argentina, Costa Rica, Namibia, Laos), but this time our partners joined us.
The rough itinerary:
Arrival in Tokyo. Visiting Shinjuku/Shibuya districts + day trip to Kamakura
5 days in the Japanese Alps, from Matsumoto to Kanazawa (via Kamikochi, Hirayu Onsen, and Takayama)
5 days in Kyoto
Nara, Osaka, Koyasan
Return to Tokyo (Asakusa district), with a day trip to Nikko
We booked our flights well in advance (9 months ahead): the flight cost 1086 € per person. Compared to over 2000 € if we’d booked for the same dates just 3 months prior.
For accommodations, we mostly used Booking.com. The onsen was booked via Japanican, and in Kyoto, we stayed in an Airbnb.
We also made 5 train reservations a month in advance on Klook or directly on the train’s website.
Day 1: Departure from Brussels (October 24, 2025) Early morning takeoff at 6 AM to Munich (1.5-hour layover) with Lufthansa, then a 12-hour flight with ANA, arriving the next morning at 7 AM at Tokyo Haneda.
Day 2: Arrival in Tokyo Airport formalities were quick. The eSIM we bought before leaving activated as soon as we landed (10 GB plan with Saily—more than enough for our mobile internet needs, mainly Google Maps and Google Translate). We’d received 4 ICOCA cards from our neighbors, which we loaded with 15000 ¥ each. We took the Keihin train, then the Yamanote Line. It’s easy to navigate since everything is in English, and each station is announced on scrolling displays in English too.
We got off the Yamanote Line at the station just after Shinjuku because it’s easier to exit that massive station with our luggage. So we ended up in Shin-Okubo, right in the Korean district. A 10-minute walk took us to Villa Fontaine Hotel. A great hotel, well-located north of the Kabukichō district. The room even seemed bigger than we’d expected.
It was 15°C, but it rained—and kept raining on and off all day. Belgian weather, basically.
We went for a walk in Shinjuku Gyoen Park. Not as pretty in the rain, but the big greenhouse was interesting.
Then our first ramen (hearty and for 1000 ¥—pretty much the price of all our ramen during the trip). We headed back to the hotel since check-in was after 3 PM. Shower and relax before going out for dinner. Dinner was barbecue at Shichirin Yakiniku Anan (1700 ¥ each—good and cheap). Ordering via tablet wasn’t easy, but luckily it was in English.
We ended the evening with a stroll through Kabukichō before a well-deserved sleep.

A summer in the sun in... Iceland!!
Ah, Iceland and us—it’s quite the story, or rather, a long wait... The first time we considered going was already 7-8 years ago, after reading travel journals describing breathtaking landscapes, countless active and dormant volcanoes, glaciers, and waterfalls with extraordinary flows. In short, this island, made of fire and ice, right at Europe’s doorstep with its own unique culture, had nothing but advantages, and it was urgent to visit without delay 😇
My *Routard* guidebook is actually from 2016. So why did Iceland make us wait so long before we finally gave in to its charms? Yes, why indeed?
Simply because reading other travel journals revealed the cost of living there—and especially the harsh climate, even in the middle of July 🤪! Some journals described entire weeks of rain and foggy weather, making it tricky to explore the island. The budget wasn’t spared either, because in the most touristy areas, especially in the south and around Myvatn, accommodation prices are downright indecent—even outright robbery. 😕
Plus, in the Highlands, there’s literally no permanent lodging, and the only way to spend several nights there is to camp. And camping in winter conditions wasn’t exactly part of our plans... 😄
So, year after year, this trip kept getting postponed...
until August 2023, when prices for Southern Africa, North or South America, or even Asia were all way too high for summer 2024!
That’s when I turned my attention back to the Land of Fire and Ice and scoured all the comparison sites for the best accommodation deals across the country. Planning for 20 nights, I found 13 nights in "proper" lodging for 5 people at an average cost of under 200 €! A miracle, considering that in the southern glacier region, around Vik or Myvatn, prices range from 300 to 1000 € per night 😮 😮!
Still, that means we’ll have to camp for 7 nights, mostly in the Highlands, near Askja or Landmannalaugar. 😎
For once, I built the daily itinerary entirely around the decently priced lodgings I found 11 months in advance! The shortage of places to stay in some areas forced me to plan a few long transition days and make some tough choices. No big deal, though—there’s so much to do on this island 🙂!
Once the main itinerary was set, everyone agreed to the plan: 2/3 in proper lodging and 1/3 camping, even the most camping-averse among us! *Follow my gaze...*
By the time we bought the flight tickets, I had to tweak the itinerary a bit because one or two places were already booked! Plus, it was impossible to wait for a more refined plan to adjust reservations, since almost all bookings are non-refundable!! The harsh law of supply and demand...
For the car rental, we booked a Hyundai Tucson, approved for the Highlands, from Lava Car Rental—a company I’d read good reviews about in a Facebook group—for a cool 2500 € with full insurance. A real 4x4, like a Defender, would’ve been more than double...! Welcome to Iceland 😕...
Activities and excursions also required some tough choices. We had two must-dos: whale watching in Húsavík (60 € pp on Getyourguide) and a Glacier and Summer Treasure Glacier Walk with BlueIceland (165 € pp with discount codes on Getyourguide).
For the baths, we skipped the Blue Lagoon—too expensive—in favor of the Secret Lagoon and the Myvatn Baths, the Blue Lagoon’s equivalent but half the price.
Two baths for the price of one... and even more, since I spotted several free hot-water swimming spots.

We arrive at 4 AM. Since we leave at 7 AM, the "night" will only last the equivalent of a 30-minute nap 🤪... just enough to get us in the road-trip mood 😏!!

HIGHWAY 1
Highway 1 runs along the Pacific coast of California from Leggett in the north to Dana Point in the south. It's the longest state route in California, stretching 1,050 km.
It's famous for its breathtaking ocean views. That’s actually why it’s become such a popular route for road trips, with tons of attractions and points of interest all along the way.
After crossing the U.S. interior on our way out (see Road Trip USA 2023 - Part 1), we’re starting our return trip along this route from Leggett.

Highway 1 runs along the Pacific coast of California from Leggett in the north to Dana Point in the south. It's the longest state route in California, stretching 1,050 km.
It's famous for its breathtaking ocean views. That’s actually why it’s become such a popular route for road trips, with tons of attractions and points of interest all along the way.
After crossing the U.S. interior on our way out (see Road Trip USA 2023 - Part 1), we’re starting our return trip along this route from Leggett.

Trip report: Our South Africa journey in July
Hi there,
We’re back from our 3-week trip to South Africa in July. It was a family trip with our four grown-up kids (ages 18 to 25).
First off, I’d like to thank everyone on this forum for their great tips—they really helped us plan this trip!
The trip: We spent 15 days between Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, then a week around Kruger (including Blyde River Canyon). We found South Africans to be welcoming and always ready to help. We never felt unsafe (just followed basic safety rules). The police are very visible, especially on the roads.
Logistics: We’d booked our accommodations in advance but made a few changes on the spot based on how we felt at the time. We rented two vehicles from Firefly (Hertz). No complaints—recent cars, quick returns, and the deposit wasn’t charged. We’d gotten our international driver’s permits... which stayed in France! Luckily, no one asked for them. Driving on the left wasn’t an issue (it wasn’t our first time). The roads we took were in good, even great, condition. Only a few tracks to lodges or parks were rough and required extra caution. Lots of pedestrians on the sides of roads, even highways. And plenty of very slow trucks. But they pull over to let you pass. It’s also common for cars to cross into the opposite lane to overtake, even with white lines. We took two domestic flights: one early in the morning (Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth) and one in the late afternoon (Cape Town to Johannesburg) to save time.
We had some highlights and a few disappointments—all part of the journey! More details coming soon.

Another side of my trip to Thailand: Villages, nature, countryside, mountains...
February 9th is a pivotal day during my trip to Thailand. Up until this date, my focus had been on cities, temples, and other urban landmarks. Starting February 10th, I’ll finally leave the city behind for the outskirts—one town, one life, farther from tourism, more real, more authentic... Then comes the bucolic surroundings of Chiang Mai, nature, the countryside, the mountains.
This morning, I head to visit the ethnographic museum. I’d been told about another one, but it’s permanently closed. I wonder if it’s the same one that might have changed its name and location.
I thoroughly enjoy visiting this museum. At first, I’m a bit annoyed because the place is packed with noisy school groups blocking the display cases without even showing the slightest interest. But soon, their chaperones manage to lead them into another room, giving me some peace. They maintain this distance throughout the tour, allowing me to explore the museum in complete tranquility. I really appreciate their tact.
I’m amazed by the absolutely stunning fabric displays and the countless everyday objects, especially the very old pottery. There’s so much beautiful basketry and intricately carved wood. The statues are also incredible... After seeing all of them, I no longer feel like buying any from the shops.
On my way back, not far from my hotel, I discover a rather unique place that only serves one drink, which they’ve made their specialty: egg coffee! A pretty surprising novelty. I have to try it.
At the bottom of the cup, they pour a layer of milk, topped with a layer of liquid coffee, followed by a layer of egg yolk, and finally a top layer that turns out to be a mix of coffee and cocoa powder. It’s a cold drink that, in the end, doesn’t have much flavor, and the price is pretty steep for such a small cup. You’re paying for the exclusivity!
Later in the day, I venture once again into small alleys, something I love doing when exploring a new city—no specific goal, just wandering east of the city, outside the walls.
I encounter very few tourists there and discover unsuspected little shops overflowing with lovely items, much cheaper than what you find in the heart of the tourist district. Then I wander through the floors of Warorot Market. I discover another kind of temple there: the temple of good deals. I love finding clothes that are really original for locals, not the flood of shirts and pants that tourists love but no Thai would ever buy, which invade the shops in the "Historic Square." I stop in my tracks in front of a stall with beautiful shirts featuring stunning geometric patterns in elegant color combinations and very short sleeves. Hmm, these would be perfect for showing off my biceps, one of which is adorned with the magnificent Ganesh tattoo I got last year in Bali. "When you’ve got nice things, you’ve got to show them off!" he said. 😜🙏💪 I pick out two for 380 baht and negotiate them down to 300. But the seller won’t go any lower. I understand I’ve reached the limit of her commercial possibilities. Just as I’m leaving the shop, happy with my purchase, my ever-helpful inner voice, Petite Voix, suggests: - You didn’t try them on because you were too lazy to take off the one you’re wearing and also because of the sweat, but you could just put one on over the one you’re wearing. It’s light enough that it won’t bother you.
I go back to the two sellers, who burst out laughing when I ask to try them on. - Oh no, it’s way too small for you! It’s a women’s shirt! - But they don’t look particularly feminine in style! And I chose XXL... I put the shirt on, and of course, it won’t close. Then I notice the buttons are on the wrong side. That’s why the sleeves seemed so short!!! They put the shirts back on the rack and refund me without any fuss, commenting amid total hilarity: - Well, thank goodness you tried it on just as you were leaving the shop!
Since I don’t want to walk too much before tomorrow’s first Big Outing with the driver, I end my stroll with a visit to two very pretty temples recommended by Joël.
I’d rather not post more temple photos. But these ones smell like village and countryside...
I’ve never seen anything like Wat Ket Karam, so extravagant...
And I end my day with two other lesser-known temples: Wat Noung Kham, simple and finally free of gold and glitter,
and Wat Dap Phai, where an intimate ceremony is taking place at the end of the day.

Hi, I’d love to know if there’s a website that gives a rough idea of how much time you should spend visiting a particular city or country.
