Bonjour, Je pars en Thailande en Aout avec mon ami. Nous serons dans le sud du 17 au 21. J'aurais voulu des conseils dans le choix d'une île. Au départ, on avait sélectionné Koh Pha-Ngang près de Koh Samui car elle est parait-il moins touristique et moins chère que cette dernière. Cependant j'ai lu dans divers forum et dans le Lonely planet que les plus belles iles sont Koh Lipe et Koh Tarutao. Malheureusement j'ai cru comprendre qu'elles étaient difficilement accessibles en Aout à cause des tempêtes. Pourriez-vous me renseigner à ce sujet, me conseiller une ile ? Sachant que la plongée sous-marine n'est pas vraiment notre intérêt principal (plutôt paysage, promenade, baignade, rando. vélo... en somme une île paradisiaque !! Merci d'avance Patricia

After a long travel hiatus, we’re (finally) back on the road for some getaways! Now with two kids in tow, we’re heading to Thailand for two weeks next February (a destination that’s stood us up twice before but seems perfect for our first big family trip).

We’d have loved to stay longer, but two weeks is already a great start and will be plenty enjoyable.

Key points: - Experience Thailand, not just live our usual routine in Thailand - Avoid crowds as much as possible, even though February will be busy - Not big city fans, so Bangkok (BKK) will be kept to a minimum - Focus on nature, the sea, forests, waterfalls, hiking, kayaking...

At this stage, here’s the rough itinerary I’m considering: - Arrival at 7 AM + a day in BKK

- DEPART for SURAT THANI (BUS) - Transfer + Khao Sok (overnight on the lake / in the trees)

- RETURN to Ko Samui - Transfer to Koh Pha Ngan or Koh Tao (snorkeling)

- RETURN to Khao Lak. While there: * Visit Ao Phang Nga Park by kayak * Excursion to caves / Ko Khao Phing Kan (the "007 beach" lol) * ALTERNATIVE = SIMILAN ISLANDS

- RETURN to KRABI or Koh Phi Phi * Visit Koh Hong or Koh Yao Yai

* Flight from SURAT THANI to BKK - If time left in BKK: - Explore BKK: Wat Pho / floating market / Maeklong Railway Market / Chinatown... - Or a day trip to Ayutthaya - Or a day at Erawan Waterfall (Haew Suwat) - Day +1 = Return to France

Questions I’m pondering: - Is this too ambitious? I think it might be... but since we’d rather see as much as possible than just lounge on a beach... - How to get around on this route? Bus or rental vehicle (which I’d prefer to avoid) - Are there any inconsistencies in the plan I’ve outlined? - Should I adjust any connections or prioritize differently? - Krabi vs. Koh Phi Phi? - Koh Hong vs. Koh Yao Yai?

We’ve booked the first night (using some leftover backpacking perks), but nothing else—so open to all ideas!

Hi everyone, We’re heading to Thailand from February 3rd to 24th, as a couple (37 years old). We love local cuisine, street food, small restaurants, and quiet bars for a drink in the evening. We’re also big fans of turquoise waters and white sand beaches. Our planned itinerary looks like this:

Chiang Mai: 4 or 5 days to rediscover the city, temples, and markets. We already visited the Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai provinces a few years ago and loved it, so we’re heading back for a few days there :)

Bangkok: 3 days, with a day trip to Ayutthaya.

Then heading down to Trat province to enjoy the islands of Koh Chang, Koh Mak, and Koh Kood.

We’ve read that the southern islands (Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Phangan, Koh Lipe, etc.) are often packed this time of year, so we’re looking for quieter islands but with some accommodations and restaurants/bars. For reference, we really enjoyed Koh Rong Samloem, Koh Rong, Phu Quoc, and the Philippine islands. 👍 Does this itinerary fit well with what we’re looking for? We’re heading to Thailand with our four kids (ages 18, 17, 12, and 10) from August 3rd to 15th, 2026. I’ve been there twice before, but that was over 20 years ago, so I’m completely out of the loop !

We arrive in Bangkok on the morning of the 3rd and leave on the evening of the 15th.

Here’s our rough itinerary—I’d love your thoughts: 1 night in Bangkok on the 3rd (with a little sightseeing during the day), then the Grand Palace, reclining Buddha, and a floating market on the 4th. On the evening of the 4th, we take an overnight train to Chiang Mai. We’ll stay in Chiang Mai from the 5th to the 8th. On the evening of the 8th, we take an overnight train back to Bangkok. On the morning of the 9th, we head to Koh Samui. We’ll stay there from the 9th to the 12th, then return to Bangkok on the 13th. We’ll spend the afternoon of the 13th, the 14th, and the 15th in Bangkok before flying back to France 🙁.

So here are my questions: - Do you think this "itinerary is doable"? - Do you think it’s necessary to travel first class, or is second class with Air Co sufficient for the Bangkok to Chiang Mai trip? - Any recommendations for a great hotel with a pool, super central, so we can do most things on foot and visit the night market in Chiang Mai? - Any recommendations for a great hotel with a pool, super central, so we can do most things on foot and visit the night market in Bangkok? - Any recommendations for a great hotel with a pool, super central, so we can do most things on foot and visit the night market in Koh Samui?

I’ve planned a trip to Asia for the first half of November. I’ll arrive in Singapore at the start of November for about 3 days, and I’ll leave from Bangkok in mid-November.

In between, I’d like to gradually head north to visit some less touristy islands on the Thai coast.

Since the weather is a big risk during this period, I’d love to hear your recommendations.

Hi there, Big travel year in Asia for me. I’m heading to Southeast Asia for a month in mid-July. The dates aren’t flexible since I’m going primarily for a wedding (Laos). So, I’ll start my trip in Laos for 4 days, then head off... where?

I’ve already done a trip exclusively in Laos a few years ago. I also visited Vietnam for the second time last year, so I’d love to explore something new. I was thinking of Cambodia (but only for Angkor) and northern Thailand, which I haven’t seen yet (Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, Nan, Phrae, Phayao, Pa Hin Ngam National Park), and wrapping up with a few nights in Koh Samui. My question is about the weather. From what I’ve seen, Koh Samui seems to be spared during this period. But for Angkor and northern Thailand, I’m not so sure—it feels like a gamble. And I’m really not in the mood for rainy vacations, since I already get enough gray skies where I live 😅.

So, I had another idea: after Laos, I could head to Bali (or another Indonesian island) where it’s supposedly the right season. The flight ticket price is exactly the same, including a one-way to Bali and the return from Bali (with a layover in Bangkok). For those who’ve traveled in July, what do you think? Is there a big risk in trying northern Thailand and Angkor?

After traveling solo across Iran and the Stan countries from one end to the other,

this time I’m heading to Southeast Asia with my wife and our 3-year-old.

I went to the Philippines almost 10 years ago and actually met some forum members there. It was love at first sight.

I’ve booked tickets from January 10 to March 31 for Bangkok (amazing price from Milan). I was thinking of spending: 3 weeks in Thailand 3 weeks in Vietnam 1 month in the Philippines.

Don’t worry, I won’t spam the forum with a thousand messages asking how to get from point A to point B :)))

I’m reaching out to the experts or regulars here for suggestions and ideas!

For Thailand, Obviously, some beautiful beaches wouldn’t hurt for a bit of relaxation. I was thinking of Koh Phayam or Koh Kood (or Koh Chang). If anyone knows a nice spot, even if it’s not on an island, I’m all ears. It’s tricky to ask this for Thailand, but I’m looking for a bit of tranquility (so I’ll probably avoid Phuket, Koh Samui, etc.). (Though I know sometimes you just need to get off the beaten path to find some peace, but I’m not sure if that’s the case in Thailand.)

Vietnam—I have no idea!! A friend mentioned Danang, which could be a good base to explore the countryside/inland areas.

And the Philippines—I had a huge crush on the country (Bantayan, Dumaguete, Sipalay, Siquijor) and really want to go back, maybe to new places/islands.

I have one constraint: We’ll stay in the same place each time. With a kid, it’s tough to move every 2 days (unlike when I’m solo), and I hope this will let us connect with locals by staying put for 3 weeks at a time. (Plus, my budget is pretty tight, so the idea is to negotiate a good price for 3 weeks in the same accommodation.) (My rough budget is 1000 € per month for the three of us: 450 € for lodging, 450 € for food, and 100 € for a scooter. This doesn’t include boat, bus, etc. transfers.)

If you have any ideas, tips, or experiences to share, I’m all ears! I’m totally open to shortening or extending our stays in each country, even if it means skipping one of the three.

I’m heading back to Thailand soon, and from what I’ve been reading, it seems some beaches/islands are infested with these dreaded sandflies!

I’ve noted the remedy: rub the bitten area with 90% alcohol, then apply soothing cream.

But prevention is better than cure!

Which areas should I avoid right now?

Are there seasons that are more prone to these itchy invasions than others?

I’ve already stayed in Hua Hin, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, Krabi, and Phuket without any issues like this.

I’d love to keep it that way...

Bonjour, je suis allé en Thaïlande 4 semaines février 2020, j ai beaucoup aimé, transport très bien organisé, qualité prix, la nourriture excellente mais beaucoup de monde et les plages étaient belles mais pas tous pour la baignade marré très base, j ai plongée aux îles Similan très bien, meilleur plongée a vie mais extrêmement cher $270 canadien pour 2 plongées. Maintenant je regarde Indonésie, Philippines et peux être Malaisie. Mes critères -évidement la plongée et a prix abordable, -hôtel bord de superbe plages ou c est possible de se baigner sans être en ville rempli de tourisme (exemple Ko Lanta en Thaïlande c était bien, plage a ko samui c etait super, possible de se baigner la nuit tellement le sable est fin sans roches mais beaucoup trop de monde) -Je suis pas difficile mais j aimerais savoir la nourriture

Je suis présentement dans le néant et j'ai besoin de votre opinion. Je planifie présentement un voyage en Thaïlande pour mai 2020. La première portion de mon voyage est planifier soit, Bangkok et Chiang Mai.

Pour conclure mon séjour, j'aimerais me diriger au sud. Le hic, c'est que je ne sais pas où aller et quel moyen de transport utiliser. La raison est que j'ai seulement 5 nuits et 5 jours et que j'aimerais en profiter au maximum. Idéalement, j'aimerais passer deux nuits sur une île.

Donc où me diriger (quel aéroport?, quel ferry? quelles villes?) afin de rentabiliser mon temps. Je tiens à dire, que mon but est d'en profiter un maximum et que l'option la moins chère n'est pas ma priorité.

15 mai: Journée à Chiang Mai, je peux prendre un vol en fin de soirée 16 mai: Ou partir en tôt le matin 17 mai: ?? 18 mai: ?? 19 mai: ?? 20 mai: ?? 21 mai: Départ en journée vers Bangkok (avion), car dans la nuit je retourne au Québec.

Par contre je lis, relis les sites et forums, mais je n'arrivent pas à trouver l'endroit et les excursions vraiment chouettes sur le Sud. Je désire éviter Phuket (déjà fait un arrêt de quelques jours il y a qqes années) et Koh Samui qui ne me parle pas. Je pensais me diriger vers Krabi.

Avez-vous des bonnes idées pour excursion en bateau (sans qu'on ne soit 50) pour les visites des îles ?

Bonsoir, y a-t-il des endroits où l'on puisse pratiquer le windsurf ou le surf à niveau modeste (donc pas besoin d'un vent de fou ni de grosses vagues :-), juste un minimum et un club ou loueur) dans le sud de la Thaïlande et plus particulièrement du côté des îles, Côté Mer Adaman ou de l'autre. Merci ! Précision : c'est pour fin janvier - début février.

Bonjour Nous sommes à sukhothai et demain nous descendons sur Bangkok. Nous devions aller à ko samet pour finir notre séjour du 31/12 au 05/01. Mais à la lecture des différents avis j'ai peur d'être déçue de cette île. Selon les dires c'est une ile poubelle et avec énormément de touristes. Donc ou aller pour finir notre séjour en sachant que l'on veut plage et repos et pas trop loin car ras le bol des transports ? Merci

Ce n'est pas la première fois que nous partons en Thaïlande, mais la première fois avec notre fille de 4 ans. Et j'avoue que je suis un peu perdue en essayant de lui épargner trop d'heures de voyages consécutives. Nous partons la 2ème 15aine de janvier et cette fois j'avoue hésiter: - Partir le jour de notre arrivée en avion vers Surat Thani puis aller vers Koh Samui en espérant y trouver un coin un peu au calme. Ensuite passer à Koh Phangan (on est hors full moon) ça devrait aller. et revenir de Koh Phangan vers Bangkok où on passerai encore 2 jours. Mais le trajet à l'air quand même bien fatiguant après avoir déjà eu 15h de vol avec escale depuis Bruxelles. - Voler vers Krabi, trajet effectivement plus court. Rester à Ao Nang, Rilley Beach, éventuellement passer à Koh Lanta ou Koh Lipe puis retour Bangkok.

Les autres idées sont les bienvenues!

Aussi, je me demandais où loger à part Kao San road où nous avons toujours été à BKK. Un pti quartier sympa avec un peu d'animation et des petites guesthouses accueillantes.

Sur tous les sites que je lis , je peux voir qu'en janvier le ciel est toujours couvert et que l'on voit très peu le soleil est ce vrai ? Nous souhaitons quand meme nous baigner, sous le soleil, bronzer etc... aurions nous ça ? Même si je sais que le météo n'est jamais sur.

Nous partons avec notre petite fille de 3 ans en Thaïlande du 21 novembre au 10 décembre. Après avoir beaucoup lu sur le sujet j’ai sélectionné un itinéraire qui toutefois me semble un peu ambitieux. J’aimerai avoir vos avis pour voyager au mieux en famille. Voici l’itinéraire que j’ai choisi :

-BANGKOK : 3 nuits pour nous acclimater au décalage horaire à la culture etc (déjà réservé) - KANCHANABURI : 2 nuits notamment pour faire le chemin de fer de la mort ainsi que les cascades d’Erawan - AYUTTHAYA : 3 nuits - CHIANG MAI : 4 nuits - PHUKET : vol depuis chiang mai (2 nuits) - KOH PHI PHI : 2 nuits - KOH LANTA

Nous avons éliminer chiang rai et Sukhothai malheureusement par manque de temps.

Pensez vous que le nombre de nuits envisagé peut être correct ?
