je pars sur l'atlantica le 17/02 pour la croisière perles des caraïbes. J'aimerais savoir s'il est possible de faire l'excursion qui permet de remonter le fleuve pour aller à altos de chavon par le biais des locaux ou d'aller au village en taxi ? Est-ce que cet endroit vaut le coup d'être vu ? J'ai vu sur les forums que des gens avaient déjà été à ST DOMINGUE en taxi. Combien cela coûte-t-il ? Je suis percussionniste et musicien intervenant dans les écoles primaires. Or, je serai à La Paz du 24 juillet au 17 aout chez une copine. Je cherche donc des contacts dans des orphelinats ou autres structures qui s'occuppent des enfants des rues de LaPaz ou El Alto. Voilà si vous savez vers où me tourner, n'hésiter vraiment pas à me laisser un petit message. Ce qui est sûr, c'est que même si je ne trouve rien, je ferai de la musique avec les enfants là bas mais une structure d'accueil serait mieux. Merci les loulous.

Suite à mes mesaventures avec transat concernant ma reservation au sunscape casa del mar, ceux ci me propose de passer en hotel 5* au hôtel Ocean Blue Golf and Beach à punta cana ou au sunscape the beach punta cana (enfin c plutot uvero alto) Est ce que quelqu un a un avis récent concernant ces hotels ? D'après le forum l ocean blue golf ne meriterait pas ses 5* ! Je dois donner ma reponse ce soir ou demain matin pour confirmer, c est urgent. Je me demande quand même si je ne tenterai pas le sunscape casa del mar malgre ses travaux, car je revais vraiment du cote caraibe ! Je continue à préparer activement notre voyage de noce à Punta Cana. Je viens de prendre contact avec notre TO (Soltour... c'est un TO portugais/espagnol) pour connaître leurs excursions. Ils proposent une excursion a Altos de Chavon + Palmilla. Il semblerait que ça soit une alternative a Saona. J'ai regardé sur ma carte et sur le net et je ne sais pas au juste où se trouve la playa palmilla. Est ce que quelqu'un connait? Merci et bon WE

Nous serons (4 adultes) à l'hotel hacienda dominicus du 19 au 29 octobre 2005. Nous aimerions faire des excursions hors des sentiers battus. Could you recommend any reliable 4x4 rental companies in both the Almaty and Aktau/Mangystau regions?

I’ve read that the Mangystau region can get extremely hot in August. Do you think it’s better to start with Almaty and finish with Aktau to hopefully have milder temperatures (less extreme😛)? For us, doing the reverse would be simpler in terms of international flights, the domestic flight, and it’d also be significantly cheaper.

Regarding the places listed above, do you think there are any must-see spots we should add, or conversely, any sites that aren’t worth the detour?

More generally, do you have any practical tips for a 3-week trip to Kazakhstan in August (road conditions, fuel availability, reservations, weather, safety, etc.)?

We’re just mentioning this to give you an idea of our level of self-sufficiency for this kind of trip.

When planning a trip to Panama, you often hear about Panama City, Bocas del Toro, Boquete, or even San Blas. Yet, there’s a region that remains relatively under the radar in travel guides: the Arco Seco.

Located on the Pacific coast, between the provinces of Panamá Oeste, Coclé, Herrera, and Los Santos, the Arco Seco enjoys a generally drier climate than the rest of the country. Even during the rainy season, you’ll often find more sunshine here than in other parts of Panama.

For travelers who love alternating between beaches, nature, hikes, and local discoveries, this region is definitely worth a detour.

A few ideas for visits:

• The beaches of La Ensenada, El Palmar, Punta Barco, and Coronado

• Surfing at El Palmar, one of the most well-known spots on the Pacific coast

• Kitesurfing at Punta Chame, which is highly reputed!

• El Valle de Antón, nestled in an ancient volcanic crater, with its hikes, waterfalls, artisan market, and hot springs

• Various hikes offering stunning panoramas

• The waterfalls in the San Carlos and El Valle areas

Between composition and improvisation: Anthony Braxton

For over half a century, the American Anthony Braxton—a composer, multi-instrumentalist, music theorist, university professor, mentor, and visionary—has been one of the key figures in avant-garde contemporary music. Braxton himself describes his music as "creative music," drawing inspiration from jazz, European New Music (Schönberg, Stockhausen, and Xenakis are among the composers who influenced him), and music from various world cultures. In other words, his work uniquely oscillates between composition and improvisation. His body of work includes around 700 compositions, over 200 albums, and a dozen theoretical books.

Anthony Braxton is one of the most striking and brilliant figures in contemporary jazz. As a member of the Creative Construction Company (with violinist Leroy Jenkins and trumpeter Leo Smith) and the quartet Circle (with Chick Corea, Dave Holland, and Barry Altschul—whose double album Circle. Paris Concert is a landmark of contemporary jazz), with his groundbreaking solo alto saxophone album For Alto (1968), his duo with drummer Max Roach, Birth and Rebirth (1978), and especially his own ensembles and large formations, he set out to "redefine the space of music" (Braxton). In doing so, he gave decisive impetus to the development of jazz, making him a star of the avant-garde in the 1970s, with a recording contract from a major label.

Born in 1945 in the South Side, an African-American neighborhood of Chicago, Braxton was always a bit of an outsider, not doing what everyone else did. While the boys in his neighborhood hung out and goofed around, he stayed home pondering chess games or practicing the saxophone. Later, he became a leading figure in the Chicago musicians' organization AACM (Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians), a mutual aid network for many African-American musicians in Chicago's new jazz scene. He then led his own formations for years, including musicians like George Lewis, John Lindberg, Marilyn Crispell, Gerry Hemingway, Kenny Wheeler, Dave Holland, Barry Altschul, Mark Dresser, Ray Anderson, and Mark Helias. In the mid-1980s, Braxton settled down a bit by accepting a teaching position at Mills College at the University of California, Berkeley. He was a tenured professor at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, for many years. From his "school" emerged musicians of the younger generation, such as Taylor Ho Bynum (trumpet), Aaron Siegel (percussion), Jay Rozen (tuba), Jessica Pavone (violin, viola, flute), and Mary Halvorson (guitar).

I’ve seen Anthony Braxton in concert many times: the first time at the Moers Jazz Festival (1976) in a duo with George Lewis (trombone)—I still remember it vividly—the last time in November 2021 in Ulm with his Diamond Curtain Wall Trio (with the incredible Portuguese trumpeter Susanna Santos Silva; see the photos).

Just a few days ago, on June 4, this exceptional figure celebrated his 80th birthday. Congratulations!

After a lot of hesitation about our Central America destination (trip in July), we finally decided on Panama.

For this country, we're looking for info to fine-tune our itinerary.

To avoid spending entire days in the car, does anyone have any firsthand experiences or suggestions for towns or villages to stop at: Between Panama City and Valle de Anton? Between Valle de Anton and Pedasí (Santiago, Parita, Chitré)? Between Pedasí (or another nearby village) and Santa Catalina? Is Isla Cébaco worth the detour? (How do you get there?) Is there another departure point for Coiba (other than Santa Catalina)? Between Santa Catalina and David (is Boca Chica worth the detour?) Between David and Boquete? Between Boquete and Bocas del Toro?

Also, we’ve seen that Panama is known for its waterfalls, some of which look stunning—like Cascada Macho de Monte and La Silampa.

Do you know of any waterfalls that are easy to access (we’re traveling with a child) and don’t require hours of hiking?

I’m planning a trip to Panama in the summer of 2026 (2 adults and 2 kids, ages 9 and 6).

Here’s my first draft for the itinerary. Could you give me some advice, please?

Day 1: Panama City + night 1 Day 2: Departure for the San Blas Islands (I don’t have a transfer company yet and I’m hesitant to drive there myself in an SUV) + 1 or 2 nights depending on the price Day 3 (or 4): Return to Panama City + departure for Isla Grande (maybe too much in one day, so maybe an extra night in Panama City and leave the next day for Isla Grande) For Isla Grande, should I go through Portobelo? Day 3 or 4: Isla Grande + night Day 4 or 5: From Isla Grande to Lake Gatun for an Embera immersion (I haven’t checked the travel time yet) + night Day 5 or 6: Departure from Lake Gatun to El Valle de Antón + 2 or 3 nights Day 7 or max Day 9: Head to the Gulf of Chiriquí and Boca Chica + 2 or 3 nights? Day 9 or max Day 12: Boquete + 2 nights Day 11 or 14: Bocas del Toro (one of the surrounding islands) + 2 nights Day 13 or 16: Return to Panama City by plane the day before the international flight. I don’t have all 21 nights planned yet, but there are still some details to work out with your help ;)

Also, is it possible to rent a car in Panama City and drop it off at the Bocas del Toro airport? (I think so...) Finally, what are the steps for driving back from Bocas del Toro to Panama City (to avoid the domestic flight)?

Hello! I’m so excited to be back on this forum—it’s helped me so much in the past! I need your expert advice for our next trip, which will take us to Central Asia: Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan.

We have a month, and here’s the itinerary I have in mind: Arrival in Tashkent – 2 days Bukhara – 2 days Samarkand – 3 days Panjakent – 1 day The Seven Lakes + Iskanderkul – 3 days Khujand – 2 days Fergana Valley – 3 days Song Kol Lake – 2 days Issyk-Kul Lake – 3 days Charyn Canyon – 1 day Kaindy Lake – 1 day Altyn Emel Park – 1 day Almaty – 1 day and departure

I know the travel times, especially in the mountains, can be long, but I’ve tried to optimize it so we can rest after the long drives. Our family includes three kids aged 5, 13, and 17. We’re used to backpacking. But I have *so* many questions: -Will it be extremely hot in Uzbekistan, but manageable in the other regions on my itinerary? -I’ve read conflicting things about trains in Uzbekistan: is it possible to book train tickets in advance from France? -For the Seven Lakes and Iskanderkul, do I need to hire a driver? Is it easy to find one? Since there are five of us, we’d need a large car… or is it possible to rent a car in Panjakent and drop it off in Khujand? -What’s worth visiting in the Fergana Valley? -I’d prefer to avoid domestic flights, so I planned to break up the Osh-Issyk-Kul Lake route by stopping at Song Kol Lake and taking a horseback ride. Is that realistic? Again, do I need to find a driver, or can we do it independently? -Where’s the best base for Issyk-Kul Lake? The main goal is to relax and swim (is it acceptable for women to wear swimsuits in these regions?) -For the last part of the trip—Charyn Canyon and Kaindy Lake from Issyk-Kul—is it doable, or do I need a driver once more? -Is Altyn Emel Park doable in the summer, or is it too hot? The idea is to see the views and do a short 3-hour hike.

2 days in San Blas

2 days in Santa Fe (it’s either that or Boquete, but I think I’d prefer Santa Fe)

4 days in the Bocas del Toro archipelago

3 days in Panama City and surroundings

2 days in Valle de Antón? Not sure if it’s really worth it

1 "flexible" day

What do you think?

We’re also debating whether to take a direct flight to Bocas first, then rent a car to gradually make our way back to Panama City and do San Blas at the end—or do the opposite: start with San Blas, rent a car, and finish with the domestic flight from Bocas back to Panama City.

Any specific tips?
