PLAGE:c'est le seul point negatif du resort vraiment pas belle plein dalgues et de coraux ca prends quelque chose au pieds por aller dans la mer
PISCINE:WOW, quelle beaute plien de piscine sur plusieurs niveaux ils se jettes une dans lautre mon garcon cest amuser comme un fou
NOURRITURE:tres bonne et varie sauf au dejeuner moi jai bien aimer surtout le buffet du midi au resto de la plage.

Avec deux jours de retard dus au fait que j'etais perdu sur une plage pour le moment preservee du capitalisme betonnant, une plage paradisiaque perdue dans une nature intacte du Nicaragua, je poste ce message qui me tient a coeur, que j'avais ecrit sur mon carnet de route le jour meme, ecoeure.
Je sais, certains vont penser: pas de politique sur VF, ou encore, ce post n'a pas sa place ici.
Et comment qu'il a sa place ici! Il ne s'agit plus de politique a ce niveau la, mais d'une immense levee de boucliers de tous les voyageurs que nous sommes, tous concernes par ce qu'il vient de se passer, menaces, nous, ainsi que le vaisseau que nous visitons, ainsi que ses habitants que nous rencontrons, et que nous souhaitons les plus heureux possibles, et culturellement "intacts".
Aujourd'hui, une nouvelle fois, le voyageur, la Terre et ses peuples sont gravement menaces. Nous repartons pour quatre ans de guerre entre d'une part une oligarchie de quelques centaines de personnes morales et physiques que sont les multinationales et le futur gouvernement de monsieur Bush, et de l'autre cote, des peuples qui cherchent ou chercheront a preserver leur liberte, leur culture, et leurs droits, des especes animales et vegetales qui ne demandent qu'une chose, le droit d'exister, des littoraux qui cherchent a se preserver du beton, bref, pour resumer, le parti des enfants, des baleines, de la Terre et de l'eau, comme dirait l'autre.
Nous, en tant que voyageurs, ne pouvons que nous emouvoir des futurs problemes que cette desastreuse reconduction de la haine, de l'arrogance et de la betise va apporter, en extrapolant aisement les quatre ans deja ecoules.
Nous, en tant que voyageurs, ne pouvons pas rester neutres, et choisir son camp coule de source. Je n'ai rencontre, en quatre mois de voyage en Amerique Centrale, qu'un seul pro-Bush parmi les autres voyageurs, et il voyageait d'une maniere un peu differente des autres.
Nous, en tant que voyageurs concernes et responsables, condamnons fermement la reelection de monsieur Bush a la tete du pays le plus puissant de la planete, et condamnons tout aussi fermement la societe des Etats Unis d'Amerique du Nord, qui, par ses rouages, a permis que plus de la moitie des habitants de plus de la moitie des etats croit judicieux de donner leur voix a monsieur Bush une nouvelle fois.
J'imagine que des mouvements spontannes vont naitre un peu partout dans le monde reel et virtuel. Des sites importants vont sans doute proposer des sortes de petitions, ou d'autres formes de protestations. Je l'espere de tout coeur. J'invite par avance tous les voyageurs a aller voir ces sites, a s'INFORMER, et a signer s'ils leurs paraissent serieux.

Esperanto: enfin une langue facile et utile English translation pending

L'esperanto, à quoi ça sert, qui le parle, ... des questions que l'on entend souvent, alors je vais leur apporter quelques réponses...
Qui le parle ? Plusieurs millions de personnes. 3 millions d'après esperanto-france, 6 millions d'après le livre des records, certains vont même jusqu'à dire 15 millions. Le nombre exact est très dur à savoir, d'autant qu'il y a actellement un développement important de la langue en Afrique, Asie, ...
A quoi ça sert ? A vous de choisir ! Moi ce qui me plait le plus, c'est de pouvoir parler très rapidement avec des personnes du monde entier, beaucoup plus facilement qu'avec l'anglais par exemple. Un aspect que les utilisateurs de ce site apprécieront surement c'est la possibilité de voyager un peu partout. Il y a de nombreuses rencontres qui ont lieu un peu partout dans le monde à tout instant, et qui réunissent des centaines, voire des milliers de participants des quatre coins du globe.
Je viens par exemple de rentrer d'une petite rencontre organisée par des français d'une semaine à Orléans où nous étions 57 participants, dont des russes, des roumaines, des italiens, une anglaise, des allemands, un belge, un danois, ... Mais il y a aussi eu IJK (Internacia Junulara Kongreso : congrès international jeunes) en Russie, UK (Universala Kongreso) à Pékin, ... A UK par exemple à Varsovie il y avait plus de 5000 participants ("partoprenantoj" en esperanto). Il y a de nombreuses grandes rencontres tous les ans (IJS, IS en Allemagne, KISO, ...) qui permettent de voir du pays et des gens. Le programme classique d'une rencontre c'est le matin des ateliers (a FESTO par exemple on avait dessin, théatre, faire un petit film, ...), l'après midi du sport, de la découverte de la région (à FESTO on a fait du canoë, de l'accrobranche, on a visité le château de Chambord, ...), après des "prelegoj" (exposés ou débats, ... à FESTO un mathématicien nous a présenté la 4ème dimension, on a eu un exposé sur les MST, un débat sur le totalitarisme, des cours de dessin, un exposé sur l'Ido, ...), et le soir de la fête (à FESTO on a eu deux concerts, du théatre fait par des pros, ... le tout en esperanto bien sûr !)... Plutôt pas aml quand on sait que FESTO a été préparé par une bande de jeunes et que le sigle lui-même veut dire "Franca Esperanta Semajno Terure Organizita" : Semaine française esperantiste horriblement organisée :)
Un autre aspect apprécié des voyageurs est le "pasporta servo" : allez sur le site http://www.tejo.org/ps/, choisissez un pays, et vous aurez une liste d'esperantistes proposant de vous héberger gratuitement pendant plusieurs nuits ! Vous voulez vous faire un tour du monde ? Vous aurez des contacts et un logement à toutes vos étapes ! Une façon agréable de prendre contact et de voir la vie véritable des gens du pays visité !
C'est long à apprendre ce truc ? D'après l'institut de cybernétique de paderborn, il faut environ 1500h d'anglais pour le niveau Bac, 150h pour l'esperanto... Juste un petit exemple que j'ai vu la semaine dernière durant la rencontre : trois jeunes italiennes qui ne parlaient pas du tout esperanto en arrivant à FESTO, au bout d'une journée elles commençaient à comprendre la langue car la grammaire est évidente (par exemple les verbes au présent se termine par -as, les noms par -o, les adjectifs par -a, donc on comprend vite la phrase "la floro estas bela"), et au bout d'une semaine elles comprenaient très bien et pouvaient participer activement à une conversation ! En apprenant cette langue 4 ans au collége 1h par semaine je la parle et après avoir du l'arréter pendant 6 ans je la comprend et parle mieux que l'anglais que j'étudie depuis 10 ans ! Ca a une culture ce machin ? Eh oui ! et même une histoire très mouvementée : combattue par les régimes fascites et totalitaires, avec remaniements, ... Une littérature ? 33000 ouvrages traduits, une littérature originale importante ! De la musique ? Du rock, de la techno, ... et même brassens traduit en esperanto ! Ce qui est intéressant c'est que ça donne beaucoup plus un contact culturel que l'anglais (enfin c'est ce que j'ai personnellement éprouvé), parce qu'on apprend cette langue pour le plaisir et le contact, pas parcequ'on nous l'impose.
Voilà, j'espère que certains d'entre vous seront intéressés par cette manière très agréable de découvrir le monde et les pays étrangers, et sachez que si vous avez moins de 30 ans et adhérez à Esperanto-jeunes france vous avez droit à une aide de 100 euros pour votre première rencontre internationale (je pense qu'ils font pareil à esperanto france). Et si vous cherchez des correspondants (pas forcément par l'esperanto), jetez un oeil à http://www.esperantomondo.net, il y a déjà plus de 230 inscrits et le site est trilingue !

Lars Forman, professeur de langues : "Comme professeur de langues, j'étais très sceptique à propos de l'espéranto jusqu'à ce que je me trouve, il y a quelques années, devant un groupe de professeurs d'espéranto afin de faire une conférence sur la pédagogie des langues. Je constatais alors que cette langue que l'on dit "artificielle" était utilisée avec élégance par les participants entre eux et aujourd'hui -- après avoir été professeur depuis quatre ans à l'École Supérieure Populaire de Karlskoga, dans la section Espéranto --, je sais qu'elle fonctionne aussi bien que toute autre langue."

L'esperanto, à quoi ça sert, qui le parle, ... des questions que l'on entend souvent, alors je vais leur apporter quelques réponses...
Qui le parle ? Plusieurs millions de personnes. 3 millions d'après esperanto-france, 6 millions d'après le livre des records, certains vont même jusqu'à dire 15 millions. Le nombre exact est très dur à savoir, d'autant qu'il y a actellement un développement important de la langue en Afrique, Asie, ...
A quoi ça sert ? A vous de choisir ! Moi ce qui me plait le plus, c'est de pouvoir parler très rapidement avec des personnes du monde entier, beaucoup plus facilement qu'avec l'anglais par exemple. Un aspect que les utilisateurs de ce site apprécieront surement c'est la possibilité de voyager un peu partout. Il y a de nombreuses rencontres qui ont lieu un peu partout dans le monde à tout instant, et qui réunissent des centaines, voire des milliers de participants des quatre coins du globe.
Je viens par exemple de rentrer d'une petite rencontre organisée par des français d'une semaine à Orléans où nous étions 57 participants, dont des russes, des roumaines, des italiens, une anglaise, des allemands, un belge, un danois, ... Mais il y a aussi eu IJK (Internacia Junulara Kongreso : congrès international jeunes) en Russie, UK (Universala Kongreso) à Pékin, ... A UK par exemple à Varsovie il y avait plus de 5000 participants ("partoprenantoj" en esperanto). Il y a de nombreuses grandes rencontres tous les ans (IJS, IS en Allemagne, KISO, ...) qui permettent de voir du pays et des gens. Le programme classique d'une rencontre c'est le matin des ateliers (a FESTO par exemple on avait dessin, théatre, faire un petit film, ...), l'après midi du sport, de la découverte de la région (à FESTO on a fait du canoë, de l'accrobranche, on a visité le château de Chambord, ...), après des "prelegoj" (exposés ou débats, ... à FESTO un mathématicien nous a présenté la 4ème dimension, on a eu un exposé sur les MST, un débat sur le totalitarisme, des cours de dessin, un exposé sur l'Ido, ...), et le soir de la fête (à FESTO on a eu deux concerts, du théatre fait par des pros, ... le tout en esperanto bien sûr !)... Plutôt pas aml quand on sait que FESTO a été préparé par une bande de jeunes et que le sigle lui-même veut dire "Franca Esperanta Semajno Terure Organizita" : Semaine française esperantiste horriblement organisée :)
Un autre aspect apprécié des voyageurs est le "pasporta servo" : allez sur le site http://www.tejo.org/ps/, choisissez un pays, et vous aurez une liste d'esperantistes proposant de vous héberger gratuitement pendant plusieurs nuits ! Vous voulez vous faire un tour du monde ? Vous aurez des contacts et un logement à toutes vos étapes ! Une façon agréable de prendre contact et de voir la vie véritable des gens du pays visité !
C'est long à apprendre ce truc ? D'après l'institut de cybernétique de paderborn, il faut environ 1500h d'anglais pour le niveau Bac, 150h pour l'esperanto... Juste un petit exemple que j'ai vu la semaine dernière durant la rencontre : trois jeunes italiennes qui ne parlaient pas du tout esperanto en arrivant à FESTO, au bout d'une journée elles commençaient à comprendre la langue car la grammaire est évidente (par exemple les verbes au présent se termine par -as, les noms par -o, les adjectifs par -a, donc on comprend vite la phrase "la floro estas bela"), et au bout d'une semaine elles comprenaient très bien et pouvaient participer activement à une conversation ! En apprenant cette langue 4 ans au collége 1h par semaine je la parle et après avoir du l'arréter pendant 6 ans je la comprend et parle mieux que l'anglais que j'étudie depuis 10 ans ! Ca a une culture ce machin ? Eh oui ! et même une histoire très mouvementée : combattue par les régimes fascites et totalitaires, avec remaniements, ... Une littérature ? 33000 ouvrages traduits, une littérature originale importante ! De la musique ? Du rock, de la techno, ... et même brassens traduit en esperanto ! Ce qui est intéressant c'est que ça donne beaucoup plus un contact culturel que l'anglais (enfin c'est ce que j'ai personnellement éprouvé), parce qu'on apprend cette langue pour le plaisir et le contact, pas parcequ'on nous l'impose.
Voilà, j'espère que certains d'entre vous seront intéressés par cette manière très agréable de découvrir le monde et les pays étrangers, et sachez que si vous avez moins de 30 ans et adhérez à Esperanto-jeunes france vous avez droit à une aide de 100 euros pour votre première rencontre internationale (je pense qu'ils font pareil à esperanto france). Traveling with just one spare pair of underwear, considering a hot shower a miracle, never staying in the same place too long by sleeping wherever night catches us, taking whatever local, improbable, and rickety transport we can find—this is the DNA of us wanderers. Except this time, the script for our movie is going to be a whole different genre. On paper, the destination doesn’t exactly scream epic adventure: Réunion! And what’s more... we won’t be two, or four, or even ten. We’ll be a solid thirty. All from the same family. Yes, thirty. At this point, it’s not just a trip—it’s a summer camp on the move! Why inflict this on such a peaceful island? Because my brother decided to get married there with his lovely bride. We’re back from our September 2025 road trip, this time to explore Arizona and New Mexico, and it’s time for me to start my travel journal—especially since everything’s already booked for another trip in September 2026 (to California), and I need to get started on the planning.
I was a little worried this new visit to Uncle Sam’s country might not be as "wow" as the others, but we still discovered some incredible places.
For those who don’t know us, we’re a couple in our seventies who speak very little English, but that didn’t stop us from fully enjoying our stay.
For this 6th road trip in the U.S., we spent 21 nights there, drove 4,160 km by car, and walked nearly 160 km in a loop starting from Phoenix.
We’d been to Arizona before (but not this side) and never to New Mexico. This whole road trip was a huge discovery for us.
In the prices mentioned (some in euros, others in dollars), bank fees and exchange charges are included. The flights, car rental, and parking were all paid for in December 2024 when we booked.
We’d downloaded the MPC (Mobile Passport Control) app, but there wasn’t a dedicated line at Phoenix Airport. Still, we got through quickly with friendly, smiling agents.
I don’t drive at all (I hate it), so the stops were chosen based on activities but also, for some, to limit daily mileage for the sole driver. The kilometers listed in the itinerary are the daily distances.
We traveled from September 9th to 22nd, unfortunately once again without our dear friends Mimi and Maumau.

Since there were no SUVs left in the reserved category (Nissan Rogue), we got an upgrade (4x4 Ford Explorer). We booked through Air France (15% discount). We’d originally reserved it in December for 1,140 €, but since prices dropped in March, we canceled and rebooked for 865 €. Hertz offers a free Hertz Gold Plus Rewards program, which gives you priority counter service when picking up the car. 📊 **Accommodation**: 2,400 € We stayed in hotels and motels of varying standards (from 60 to 203 € per night, depending on the city), all booked through Booking.com or Hotels.com. Out of 21 nights, only two didn’t include breakfast in the price. Booking.com sometimes offers slightly cheaper rates if you book by phone using the mobile app, and our Genius 3 status on the site also got us some preferential rates. 📊 **Supplementary insurance**: AVA 200 € for medical care if needed 📊 **Cash**: $2,078. I arrived in Berlin last night. In another discussion, I shared how much of a "nightmare" the flights from Nice were.
I’ll be posting some impressions here—what I liked and what I didn’t like as much.
This is my first time in Berlin. I’m staying for two weeks. For now, I’m alone, but I’ll be joined by someone in a few days.
Just to clarify, I won’t be posting any photos because my camera gave up the ghost the day before I left. It refused to read memory cards, and I don’t have a smartphone—just a tablet that I leave at the hotel.
Speaking of photos, a few years ago, at the Ducasse d’Ath in Belgium, I met a retired teacher who wasn’t taking any pictures of the festival. I asked her, "You’re not taking any photos?" She told me that during a trip to Nicaragua, she’d photographed howler monkeys and only noticed when looking at the pictures later that the males had huge testicles—something she hadn’t realized in person. She said, "Since then, I don’t bother with photos anymore!" I’ve thought about that often and wonder if I should do the same and stop taking pictures. Still, I’ll probably get a smartphone since it’s hard to go without one these days.

Review of Renaissance Cruise (Iberian Flavors) from October 18 to 29, 2025

Here’s a little review of our cruise on the Renaissance from October 18 to 29, 2025 (11 nights). It was our first experience with CFC.
Some other forum members were on board too, so we can probably compare notes and correct me if I’m wrong!
The stops were as follows: 10/18 departure from Marseille 10/19 at sea 10/20 Cartagena 10/21 Almería 10/22 Gibraltar 10/23 Cádiz 10/24 at sea 10/25 Leixões (Porto) 10/26 Vigo 10/27 at sea 10/28 at sea 10/29 Dunkirk
First, a quick intro. We’re a family of four with two kids, ages 8 and 11. We booked this cruise in January 2025, right when it went on sale. At the time, it was priced at 763 € per adult (+ 99 € in tips) and 114.45 € per child (under 12, no tips to pay) for an ocean-view cabin (all ocean-view categories were the same price). Since there was also a single-parent offer (meaning one paying adult in the cabin was enough to get the child rate for the accompanying kid), I asked if we could take advantage of this offer to get two double cabins at the same price as one quadruple cabin (to have more space), and yes, it was possible. So we booked two premium ocean-view double cabins side by side. It was the same price as a quadruple. We booked directly through CFC because my husband had a promotional code from his works council. In total, for the four of us, we paid 1830 €, tips included. It’s true we booked early, but the rate was good, and we had the constraint of traveling as a family of four, so cabin choices were more limited. It’s also worth noting that the single-parent offer is limited.
Now, about embarkation: 10/18 Marseille Coming from the north, we took the direct TGV that morning at 7:22 AM, scheduled to arrive in Marseille at 12:24 PM. The trip went smoothly, great weather, and we arrived just one minute late. I had planned to get to the port using the free 35T shuttle from Joliette. To get to the bus stop, there were two options: the metro or walking. Since the weather was beautiful and the kids needed to stretch their legs, we opted for the second option. The route is all downhill, so it was pretty easy even with the suitcases. But I wouldn’t do it the other way around! We arrived at Joliette around 12:50 PM, just in time for the 1:00 PM shuttle, which arrived a few minutes late. Other cruisers got on board too. That day, there were two Costa ships and one MSC ship at the port as well. Traffic was heavy, and the shuttle arrived at the port entrance at 1:30 PM. We were scheduled for 2:30 PM. We were lucky to be at the closest embarkation terminal. So we were among those who had the least walking to do. We dropped off our suitcases and headed to the check-in counter. There were plenty of desks and almost no passengers. So we quickly completed the embarkation formalities—in just a few minutes—and when we boarded, it wasn’t even 2:00 PM yet. We headed to the buffet, where there weren’t many people. As we finished lunch, it was around 3:00 PM when they announced the cabins were ready. We went down to drop off our luggage in the cabins and then went up to the top deck to take some photos. The ship’s daily program said the safety drill would be at 4:00 PM. So we went to deck 6 at the scheduled time. But later, they announced it would actually be at 4:30 PM! In short, we waited 30 minutes for nothing because of a difference between the scheduled and actual time! The drill itself was long. Gathering everyone took about 20 minutes, I think. Just as we finished, they announced the departure, originally scheduled for 5:00 PM, was delayed until 9:00 PM due to latecomers. We went to check out the library, which had tons of board games and books—more than we’d ever seen. What stood out on this first day was that, for the first time, we had a French-speaking embarkation, announcements only in French (except for the safety drill), French-speaking servers, a paper daily program in French, books in French (which we’d never find on another ship), and menus in French. To wrap up the day, we had dinner at Vatel. I had requested the first seating (6:30 PM) and a table for four, and we got it. We were seated upstairs near the window—a very pleasant table that we’d occupy every evening. What was a little surprising, but we got used to it, was that you had to order everything you wanted at once. The portions weren’t big, but you could choose what you wanted. The cheese was French and excellent.

Just as we finished, they announced the departure, originally scheduled for 5:00 PM, was delayed until 9:00 PM due to latecomers. We went to check out the library, which had tons of board games and books—more than we’d ever seen. What stood out on this first day was that, for the first time, we had a French-speaking embarkation, announcements only in French (except for the safety drill), French-speaking servers, a paper daily program in French, books in French (which we’d never find on another ship), and menus in French. To wrap up the day, we had dinner at Vatel. I had requested the first seating (6:30 PM) and a table for four, and we got it. We were seated upstairs near the window—a very pleasant table that we’d occupy every evening. What was a little surprising, but we got used to it, was that you had to order everything you wanted at once. The portions weren’t big, but you could choose what you wanted. The cheese was French and excellent.

Off on an adventure to Java (and a bit of Bali)
Hey there, community! Back this weekend, below is my travel journal from my adventure in Indonesia. Enjoy the read!!!
Day 1 - August 10, 2025 New life downloading for three weeks! And for that, Flo and I launched a public tender... A public tender? What’s that got to do with a travel journal???... Well, when you think about it, few destinations tick all the boxes for an August adventure: Meaning, finding a place that’s exotic in the middle of August, not too expensive, not too packed with tourists, warm but not *too* warm, with postcard-perfect landscapes, dreamy beaches, tasty cuisine with a hint of exoticism, friendly and welcoming locals, where you’re free to sleep under the stars among the mosquitos, take transport surrounded by chickens, and even eat from a pig trough if you feel like it—well, turns out it’s not that easy to find! I’d even say, given how thick the list of requirements is, there’s a big risk the tender could be declared unsuccessful for failing to meet just one criterion. Let’s just say the candidates better submit a rock-solid proposal!
After reviewing all the responses and presentations from the candidates, the obvious choice for us is... Indonesia! Except that trying to explore a country as vast as Indonesia and its 17,504 islands in less than five years is a bit like reading the summary of a Proust novel without taking the time to savor each of its 950 pages! Don’t worry, I won’t name them all here. Besides, do they even all have names? No! Only 7,870 have been named—their parents clearly ran out of ideas for the rest. Anyway, our society, which worships the "work more to earn more" mantra, unfortunately limits our adventure time. So we’ll only get to see a small part of Indonesia, and we’ll have to make a tough choice to head for the best of the best in this archipelago of over seventeen thousand islands. Each one has its own selling points: Sumatra, Sulawesi, Java, the Celebes, Bali, Borneo, Papua, Timor, the Moluccas... So many names that smell of adventure... Another tender, another list of requirements, another review of proposals... Drumroll... Splash splash... And the lucky winner is... Ta-da... Java, Bali’s big sister, where I’ve already been eight years ago... Java the programming language. The Java of Broadway. We’re gonna *do* the Java. Java the coffee. And yes, Java is also an island!
This island, four times smaller than France, is home to 136 million people, making it the most populated island in the world! Fun fact: Indonesia, with its 260 million inhabitants, is just shy of the podium for the world’s most populated countries, after the winning trio of India, China, and the United States. And it’s on this island of Java that you’ll find Jakarta, the (soon-to-be-former) capital and main airport of the country, where we’ll soon land after our nineteen-hour flight! Yep, nineteen hours! I mean, Indonesia in general—and Java in particular—is a *tad* farther than going on vacation to Grandma Yoyo’s! Not sure where it is? Easy. Grab a map. Plant your finger on the big island at the bottom right—aka Australia for those who struggle with geography—move it up two centimeters, and bam, welcome to Indonesia!
Nice transition, right? Because "Welcome to Indonesia" is exactly what the friendly flight attendant just said to me as we got off the plane! That’s it, our chakras are open, we’ve arrived at our (air)port. Time for rest, pool, cocktails, and a beach with our toes spread out... Wait, if you bought that, you clearly don’t know us yet! Since we still have energy to burn and need to adjust to the flight and time difference, we tackle the long administrative formalities to enter Indonesia, just to earn the right to hop in a 45-minute Grab taxi to the train station. The train station? What train station?... What do you usually do at a train station? Take a train, of course! Off we go for a three-hour train ride to Bandung, where we’ll officially start our adventure tomorrow after our first Indonesian night...
Unfortunately, we were a bit slow off the mark, which meant we missed the 6:25 PM train by two minutes. Oh well, we’ll have to wait until 11 PM. We take the opportunity to stretch our legs in Jakarta, soak up the atmosphere, and enjoy the delicious smells wafting from the *warungs*—those little typical street restaurants. A quick stop at the National Monument, a detour to a night market to devour our first *kwetiaw goreng* and *teh manis* for 60,000 rupiahs (that’s 3 € for two), and just like that, our penalty is lifted, and we’re allowed to hit the road again. Off to Bandung, where we arrive at 2 AM for... a *very* short night...

Croatia, Montenegro – two victims of overtourism?
Mid-June, two Auvergnats on the starting blocks—off we go to the former Yugoslavia!
We’d already explored some nooks and crannies of northern Croatia back in 2019, so we’re keeping the momentum going by planning a trip to the south of the country and then Montenegro.
On the way back, we’ll drift into Bosnia-Herzegovina just to mix things up a bit!
We’re a little unsure about what to expect in terms of tourist crowds.
Dubrovnik has a reputation for being the hardest-hit city by overtourism, and Kotor and the whole Dalmatian coast aren’t exactly empty...
Luckily, most European countries haven’t started school holidays yet, and some measures seem to have been put in place to limit the flow (like restrictions on the number of cruise ships allowed to dock at the same time).
Maybe we’ll manage to escape the promised hell?
For now, we’re slamming the doors of the Scirocco and heading off to our first stop: northern Italy!

A wonderful week around Tromsø, Kvaløya, and the Lyngen Alps

There haven’t been many recent stories about Norway in winter, and since I had trouble finding info on winter hikes, I thought I’d share a little travel journal.
Back in September 2024, while planning our summer 2025 trip to Norway, I joined some Facebook groups dedicated to travel in Scandinavia and started reading travel blogs. Since winter trips were being planned at the time, I came across posts with stunning photos of northern Norway in winter. I’d always pictured monotonous landscapes of pine forests and frozen lakes, so I was pleasantly surprised to see fjords, mountain ranges, and charming colorful cabins—just like in the Lofoten Islands. Turns out, the vast pine forests are more typical of Finnish Lapland. Norway, north of the Arctic Circle, is actually much more diverse. That was all it took to suggest this destination to my three guys for our winter vacation. After some research, early March seemed ideal—good weather, long enough daylight, and great chances for northern lights. A direct flight from Paris to Tromsø sealed the deal. The only downside? The cost of cars, accommodations, and activities nearly made us back out! Everything except flights is really expensive.
Since our oldest son had an important school deadline in June, he decided to skip the trip, so we ended up going as a trio. We took a Transavia round-trip flight from Orly to Tromsø for an amazing trip from March 1st to 8th.

So where are they and what are they doing?

VF has been back open for a reasonable number of weeks and months now. The number of visitors overall matches past averages, but the number of members online in the last 24 hours seems relatively lower than what we used to see.
Yet, to my surprise, I’m seeing fewer travel journals, way fewer messages, and way fewer questions. I don’t see many new registered users online, and I notice a number of members who are logged in but either aren’t participating or have stopped participating.
Something’s not adding up for me because, in my opinion, VF is still appealing, and I don’t see which other sites could really compete.
Was there a real break between pre- and post-Covid? Does it just take more time for some people to discover the site or learn that it’s active again? Do people now prefer quick consumption on sites like FB or others I’m not familiar with? Where have the site’s old-timers gone, and what are they doing with their time now? What’s really going on here?

Some of you have mentioned missing the activity on this Indian "page," so let’s try to liven things up a bit—with joy and good vibes (mandatory with me 😜). Plus, it’ll make Jojoone happy 😊.
As big lovers of India—we’ve been six times—my co-traveler husband and I decided to explore Rajasthan this time around. The reason we waited so long to come here? We were dreading the tourist crowds in this state. But thanks to the timing (late March to early April 2024, which is starting to get pretty hot) and Aleph’s great tips, we were *very* far from mass tourism.
We spent three weeks getting around on our own for transport: mostly taxis and trains.
And I’ll admit, we had a rather "Arabian Nights" experience, far from the "real" India (Marien, if you’re reading this 😉). So this travel journal makes no claims other than to share what we saw, experienced, and felt—with all our ignorance about this country (which I’m fully aware of).
But fair warning: I go overboard with emojis, and this journal is super casual because it’s the one I share, almost in "live" mode, with our loved ones.
So, if you’re here, consider yourself almost part of the family 😄.

From Caño Cristales to Tayrona Park
After about 12 hours of flying from Toulouse (via Paris), we landed in Bogotá six years after our first trip to Colombia. This time, our journey will be very different, with only this stop in the Colombian capital in common.
Our travel itinerary
Bogotá / La Macarena (Caño Cristales) / Villa de Leyva / Barichara / San Gil / Girón / Mompox / Ciénaga and the Santa Marta lagoon / Minca / Los Naranjos (Tayrona Park) / Bogotá.
Step 1: Bogotá (and Nemecon)
Bogotá (1/3)
This morning, we had a meet-up with Flora from Aventure Colombia, who helped me organize one of our stops, a few transfers, and tomorrow’s day trip, the program of which I changed at the last minute after deciding to skip the visit to the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá. Flora is a kind and lovely person, always available, and she did everything to answer my questions and give me advice.
She’s a local contact I highly recommend. Flora can help you plan your trip, whether you want a fully organized tour or, like us, just need assistance with a specific stop or one or more transfers between cities.
We left Flora after setting a meet-up for our return to Bogotá in a month. As we walked out of her agency, we headed to the wonderful Gold Museum, located just a hundred meters away. I was excited to revisit this amazing museum.
Note: Free entry for those over 60, regardless of nationality. Just show your passport.
Like six years ago, I was amazed by its museography, the beauty of the pieces on display, and that breathtaking shamanic room.
About two hours later, we decided to walk (careful, it’s a climb!) to the Monserrate cable car (3152m). Long wait to buy tickets and board the cable car! Once we arrived, a few raindrops, an impressive panoramic view of Bogotá’s vastness, a quick visit to the basilica (a pilgrimage site for Colombians), a walk through the tourist market, and at the top, plenty of small restaurants where we had our first Colombian meal. After our hearty lunch, we were lucky to see the sun return! No line for the descent. We then headed back to the hotel because Justine wanted to rest and recover from the trip. As for me, I continued my walk. I discovered a really nice craft market recommended by Flora, Pasaje Rivas, returned to Bolívar Square, and wandered through different streets, including the main pedestrian avenue (Calle 7), where there’s always something to see.
Tomorrow, a change of scenery as we head out for a hike in a small desert (Desierto de Chueca), located about 2 hours from Bogotá in the village of Nemecon. For this outing from Bogotá, with Flora’s help, we booked a car with a driver for the day. Flora also took care of booking the guide (since the site can only be visited with one). Nemecon (2/3) Today, we went to Nemecon to hike about 7.5 km in the ‘Desert of Checua.’ It’s nothing like sandy deserts! Instead, it’s geological formations sculpted by time, wind, and water. After two hours on the road—almost one of them spent navigating traffic jams with cars, trucks, buses, and a continuous flow of motorcycles on either side of our taxi—we reached Nemecon! The village center is really (too?) quiet. We met up with Deisy and headed toward the ‘desert,’ about twenty minutes away on a bumpy dirt road. Once there, a quick briefing, and off we went! Deisy didn’t stop talking (in Spanish) for over 3 hours!!! She told us so much about her region (flower farming, water management, traditions, songs, etc.), the origin of the site, and even mentioned Antonio Banderas, who filmed *The 33* in the village’s salt mine (the story of the survival of 33 Chilean miners after a collapse in their copper and gold mine). One hour of walking to reach the site, one hour to explore it, and one hour to return.
The advantage of this non-stop chatter was that it forced us to brush up on our Spanish at lightning speed. I even wondered if the effort to concentrate wasn’t more exhausting than the physical effort! Especially since on the way back, I got an oral quiz. Deisy wanted to make sure I remembered some of the information she’d given me during the visit: why is this rock white, that one red, and that one black? Back in the village, we had lunch at a restaurant recommended by Deisy before visiting the Nemecon salt mine. Before entering, a guide spent a good half-hour explaining the origin of the salt and the presence of many fossils in the area. Again, concentrating was tough because all the comments were exclusively in Spanish! An hour and a half wandering through the tunnels with a ‘lovely miner’s helmet’ on our heads!
We met our driver at the mine entrance. The return to Bogotá was a bit faster, but traffic in the city center was still heavy! We arrived in front of our hotel between 8:00 and 8:30 PM. It’s been a pretty intense start to the trip! Tonight, our legs are tired. Hopefully, tomorrow will be a bit more relaxed! Bogotá (3/3) We started the day by visiting the Santa Clara Church Museum, located next to the presidential palace. Alejandra (from the local agency ‘Gaia Tours Colombia,’ which organized our stay in Caño Cristales (La Macarena)) had recommended this visit for its rich mural paintings.
A few hundred meters further, after crossing the Plaza Mayor again, we visited the cultural complex housing the Botero Museum, the Mint Museum, and the Bank of the Republic Art Museum. Note that entry is free for all three museums. Botero Museum: There are fewer works by Botero here than in the Medellín museum, but more paintings and sculptures by other artists, all from Botero’s private collection (donated to Colombia). Mint Museum: We limited ourselves to visiting one room (on Flora’s advice) where three gold and gemstone monstrances and a Christ with a crown of emerald thorns are displayed. Photos are not allowed. Art Museum: We visited two temporary exhibitions. Lunchtime came quickly. We had a good meal at a reasonably priced small restaurant in the La Candelaria micro-district, near the Chorro de Quevedo square. We decided to spend the afternoon wandering the streets and alleys of the historic center to discover local street art.
We also passed through very lively pedestrian streets. I also decided to revisit Pasaje Rivas to show Justine all the shops selling more or less artisanal products. Tomorrow morning, we fly to La Macarena at 10:30 AM. Not to dance (you’d be surprised if I told you we were going to take a South American dance class, right?!), but to visit the fabulous Caño Cristales, a river naturally colored by aquatic plants. The planned program includes hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, and swimming among these plants. This site was long inaccessible because the area was controlled by the FARC. Access and tourism development became possible after agreements and amnesty measures between the Colombian government and paramilitary groups. As in other regions, former FARC members have been able to transition into various tourism-related activities.

The village center is really (too?) quiet. We met up with Deisy and headed toward the ‘desert,’ about twenty minutes away on a bumpy dirt road. Once there, a quick briefing, and off we went! Deisy didn’t stop talking (in Spanish) for over 3 hours!!! She told us so much about her region (flower farming, water management, traditions, songs, etc.), the origin of the site, and even mentioned Antonio Banderas, who filmed *The 33* in the village’s salt mine (the story of the survival of 33 Chilean miners after a collapse in their copper and gold mine). One hour of walking to reach the site, one hour to explore it, and one hour to return.
The advantage of this non-stop chatter was that it forced us to brush up on our Spanish at lightning speed. I even wondered if the effort to concentrate wasn’t more exhausting than the physical effort! Especially since on the way back, I got an oral quiz. Deisy wanted to make sure I remembered some of the information she’d given me during the visit: why is this rock white, that one red, and that one black? Back in the village, we had lunch at a restaurant recommended by Deisy before visiting the Nemecon salt mine. Before entering, a guide spent a good half-hour explaining the origin of the salt and the presence of many fossils in the area. Again, concentrating was tough because all the comments were exclusively in Spanish! An hour and a half wandering through the tunnels with a ‘lovely miner’s helmet’ on our heads!
We met our driver at the mine entrance. The return to Bogotá was a bit faster, but traffic in the city center was still heavy! We arrived in front of our hotel between 8:00 and 8:30 PM. It’s been a pretty intense start to the trip! Tonight, our legs are tired. Hopefully, tomorrow will be a bit more relaxed! Bogotá (3/3) We started the day by visiting the Santa Clara Church Museum, located next to the presidential palace. Alejandra (from the local agency ‘Gaia Tours Colombia,’ which organized our stay in Caño Cristales (La Macarena)) had recommended this visit for its rich mural paintings.
A few hundred meters further, after crossing the Plaza Mayor again, we visited the cultural complex housing the Botero Museum, the Mint Museum, and the Bank of the Republic Art Museum. Note that entry is free for all three museums. Botero Museum: There are fewer works by Botero here than in the Medellín museum, but more paintings and sculptures by other artists, all from Botero’s private collection (donated to Colombia). Mint Museum: We limited ourselves to visiting one room (on Flora’s advice) where three gold and gemstone monstrances and a Christ with a crown of emerald thorns are displayed. Photos are not allowed. Art Museum: We visited two temporary exhibitions. Lunchtime came quickly. We had a good meal at a reasonably priced small restaurant in the La Candelaria micro-district, near the Chorro de Quevedo square. We decided to spend the afternoon wandering the streets and alleys of the historic center to discover local street art.
We also passed through very lively pedestrian streets. I also decided to revisit Pasaje Rivas to show Justine all the shops selling more or less artisanal products. Tomorrow morning, we fly to La Macarena at 10:30 AM. Not to dance (you’d be surprised if I told you we were going to take a South American dance class, right?!), but to visit the fabulous Caño Cristales, a river naturally colored by aquatic plants. The planned program includes hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, and swimming among these plants. This site was long inaccessible because the area was controlled by the FARC. Access and tourism development became possible after agreements and amnesty measures between the Colombian government and paramilitary groups. As in other regions, former FARC members have been able to transition into various tourism-related activities.
Review of a Mediterranean cruise on the Splendida and 24 hours in Venice – October 2024

What a joy to be back here and pick up where we left off after all these months of hiatus.
I hope you’ll enjoy the story of this little trip around the Eastern Mediterranean. This cruise was the perfect way to satisfy our longing to return to Greece and Istanbul. The end of the season, until late November, is the best time to visit the Mediterranean in my opinion—when climate disruptions don’t get in the way.
Departing from Trieste, our stops were Katakolon, Piraeus, Kusadasi, Istanbul, Corfu, and Bari, before returning to Trieste and then Venice, where we planned a very short 24-hour stay.
We left home at 6:15 AM—our first cruise departure since moving to Normandy. What I miss most about living in the Gard is how close we were to Marseille Airport. No more hopping over to Marignane in an hour; now we have to plan for a three-hour trip to CDG, even under the best conditions on an early Sunday morning.
It was impossible to book a hotel night before our flight because, starting in April, the Ibis was priced at 450 € per night, and the Mercure was flirting with 800 €—breakfast not included, of course. 😏
I had a feeling there must’ve been a conference or something going on… Turns out, it was just the auto show. They simply adjusted the room prices to match the cost of the cars. 😛
Our flight took us to Venice, where we caught a FlixBus to Trieste. We arrived at Trieste’s train station in the afternoon and walked to our hotel in the city center.
After treating ourselves to an amazing pizza at a restaurant (Di Napoli Maestri Pizzaioli, Via Armando Diaz 10) for a very reasonable price, we enjoyed the mild evening temperature while exploring the stunning buildings of this charming city by night. These magnificent structures are a testament to the city’s past. Trieste became Austrian in 1382 due to its complicated relationship with Venice, and it wasn’t until 1918, at the end of World War I, that it became Italian again. The city’s lighting beautifully highlights the architecture of the buildings.
The terraces were lively, and the atmosphere was so warm and inviting that we wanted to stay out even longer.
But we’d been up since 4 AM, so we were happy to retreat to the quiet of our hotel, located in the pedestrian center just a few steps from the port (Urban Hotel Design—highly recommended).

Dans trois semaines, j’ai 85 ans. Ca va passer vite. Ce matin ma hanche me fait souffrir. Le médecin que j’ai eu en téléconsultation m’a dit qu’une intervention ne serait pas intéressante pour moi compte tenu du contexte. J’ai vu le Bourdon de la Santé Sociale se poser sur le perron d’Adrien. Depuis quelques jours ceux de la Brigade Géronte volaient en rase motte. Je vais ouvrir les volets, aérer la maison, boire mon verre d’eau et saluer Adrien, lui souhaiter bon voyage éternel.
Depuis les années 2040 les établissements pour personnes âgées et dépendantes n’existent plus et les vieillards restent chez eux jusqu’au bout de leur vie autorisée.
La grande guerre sanitaire de 2020 à 2024 a profondément modifié l’existence et, avec les changements climatiques , les forêts desséchées et les campagnes désertiques se sont multipliées. Les gouverneurs des cinq continents, l’Afrique, l’Asie, l’Europe, l’Amérique et l’Océanie ont édicté la LMN (loi du monde nouveau) et chaque habitant sur la planète s’est adapté à cette nouvelle donne. Les voyages d’agrément et d’affaires n’existent plus depuis longtemps et les sites de voyageurs se sont éteints les uns après les autres.
En ville, les gens courent en tout sens les yeux rivés sur leur écran et, en dehors du bruit sourd des voitures électriques, du bourdonnement des climatiseurs qui tournent à plein régime malgré les lourdes taxes, on dirait des villes de fantômes où les passants, visages penchés, évitent leur congénères en douceur. Durant la GGS (grande guerre sanitaire), les masques obligatoires avaient subtilement modifié les rapports, mais quand les villes avaient pu s’équiper de dômes, bulles transparentes enveloppant les cités et pulsant un air pur débarrassé de particules nocives, les gens qui craignaient l’hypercapnie avaient enfin respiré librement.
Il y a plusieurs mois que je n’y vais plus.
Pour voyager, il suffit de cliquer sur le Mur de Vie installé dans toute habitation. Il est possible de naviguer dans le passé, visiter chaque pays de l’ancien temps exactement comme si on y vivait et sans risques sanitaires. Bruits et odeurs sont diffusés et pour peu que l’on anticipe, le drone d’alimentation peut livrer des plats lyophilisés du pays choisi. Très souvent, je me projette en Inde et me promène dans les rues surpeuplées, grimpe sans fatigue les marches des temples. Un plaisir oublié sans transpiration, sans microbe, sans saleté.
Je vais sucer ma pastille de tétrahydrocannabinol. Depuis que j’ai 80 ans , j’ ai droit à 8 par mois. Dès 70 ans, j’en recevais 4, délivrées par le drone de Santé Sociale. C’est un médicament obligatoire et gratuit que chaque personne doit prendre. La vérification de l’absorption est simple. Il faut poser une infime goutte de sang dans un boîtier santé branché sur le dernier modèle de compteur Linky.
Ainsi, nous sommes tous bien pris en charge au nom de l’Egalité pour Tous inscrit dans la loi des derniers traités trans-mondiaux.
L’effet est apaisant sur ma hanche, il me ramollit le cerveau mais je vais me brancher sur les Cyclades que je ne connais pas et me laisser bercer…

9 février - Vers un nouveau départ...
L’air de rien, monsieur l’hiver s’est installé confortablement, apportant avec lui dans ses bagages ses amis les nuages grisâtres, nuits tombant à dix-sept heures, gouttes au nez et vieux barbu tout de rouge vêtu. Alors, l’humain lambda boude dans son coin, prétextant une déprime passagère hivernale et une envie d’hibernation foudroyante. Chanceux que je suis, c’est à ce moment précis que chaque année, le génie sort de ma lampe de chevet : « Bonjour maître ! Qu’est-ce qui vous ferait plaisir ?... Un nouveau petit voyage, peut-être ? - Je dis oui, oui et re-oui » ! Chouette, il est temps de préparer les valises et de faire un choix. Choix très difficile entre mes tongs bleues et mes tongs orange. Et puis choix de la destination ! Pique-nique-douille, c’est toi l’andouille de Guéméné ! Suosdei !!! Si je te dis « Salut » dans une langue qui fleure bon l’exotisme, c’est que nous allons ensemble partager un nouveau voyage en direction de l’Asie du sud-est. Et oui, l’Asie du sud-est en hiver, il n’y a rien de mieux pour te requinquer un homme. Et puis l’Asie du sud-est, je l’ai dans la peau, au sens propre comme au sens figuré. Et cette fois-ci, ce sera dans un pays frontalier de la Thaïlande, du Laos et du Vietnam. Pays sous protectorat français jusqu’en 1953, titre d’une chanson de Kim Wilde, pays dont la capitale est Phnom Penh, je suis, je suis, … Ding dong, trop tard !... Le Cambodge !
Qui dit introduction à un nouveau voyage dit aussi interrogatoire. Je mets ma petite robe blanche moulante, je croise, je décroise les jambes, … Oups, j’avais oublié de mettre une culotte… C’est bon, l’interrogatoire peut débuter :
Qui ? Pour m’accompagner, ma femme et mes deux filles qu’on appellera pour cette histoire Sandrine, Anna et Sasha... tout simplement parce que ce sont leurs prénoms ! On devait être accompagné par mes deux parents qui nous ont déjà suivis en Thaïlande il y a maintenant sept ans, mais une petite opération du genou a contraint ma mère à jeter l’éponge dans le visage de son chirurgien au dernier moment. Seul mon père sera de la sauterie en tant que guest star ! On souhaite donc tous ensemble la bienvenue à notre fournisseur d’anecdotes !
Combien ? On part un vendredi et on rentre un dimanche deux semaines plus tard…. Donc si tu comptes bien sur tes dix doigts, ça fait dix-sept jours, voyage compris.
Quoi ? Un voyage mi-routard, mi-pénard. Un circuit optimisé en restant au minimum trois jours par endroit pour éviter de perdre trop de temps dans les transports. De la découverte, des vieilles pierres, de la gastronomie, des rencontres, de la bonne bière, de l’exploration, … Et puis on n’oublie surtout pas de brosser « Martine » dans le bon sens en finissant par quelques jours de repos à l’ombre des cocotiers.
Où ? Pour commencer, le noooooord avec Siem Reap, puis Koh Rong tout au sud. On enchaîne ensuite par Koh Rong Samloem, pour finir tranquillement par Phnom Penh d’où nous regagnerons nos pénates.
Comment ? Scooter, tuk tuk, bus, bateau et tongs. Voilà nos moyens de locomotion ! Come on baby, do the locomooootion...
Bon, je crois avoir répondu à toutes tes questions. Aladin, à la deux, il est donc l’heure d’y aller mon bon génie : Pour tous les amoureux de l’Asie du sud-est ou pour te donner l'envie de le devenir, je déclare donc officiellement ce nouveau voyage ouvert ! Et là, tu te dis peut-être : « Oh, la chance qu’il a !!! » C’est marrant toutes ces personnes qui te répondent systématiquement ça quand tu leur annonces que tu pars en voyage… Premièrement, je ne vois pas ce que la chance vient faire là-dedans puisqu’il suffit de saisir son numéro de carte bancaire sur internet pour gagner un billet d’avion. Crois-moi sur parole, rien de plus simple, on gagne à tous les coups ! Deuxièmement, à tous ceux qui s’imaginent que les voyages, ce n’est que Bisounours et licornes pailletées, je rappelle quand même que la première journée d’un voyage, c’est-à-dire la journée d’aujourd’hui, rime toujours avec aéroport, avion, attente, décalage horaire, fatigue, … Un beau programme à te faire aimer le RER un jour de grève ! Mais rassure-toi, avec moi, inutile d'attacher ta ceinture, ça va être un voyage pépère, hyper rapide, sans zone de turbulences, ni même d’hôtesse à reluquer… puisqu'on est déjà arrivé !! Et oui, moi président, je t’ai exonéré des trois vols qui nous ont menés de Paris à Siem Reap en passant par Amman et Bangkok. Moi président, je t’ai fait grâce de vingt-quatre heures de transport éreintantes. Moi, président, je te dispense solennellement de toutes ces cernes sur ton visage puisque Sandrine se les est toutes accaparées... Seul fait marquant à se mettre sous la dent : Le petit Jésus des avions a sournoisement essayé de nous faire louper notre correspondance à Bangkok ! En direct live rien que pour toi, en voici le récit : On s’installe confortablement dans les sièges en face de notre porte d’embarquement F1A, on s’endort, on se réveille trois heures après, Jean-Michel Ecran au-dessus de notre porte affiche désormais « Shanghai » en lieu et place de « Siem Reap » qui y trônait pourtant fièrement tout à l’heure ! As-tu déjà vu le film « Maman j’ai raté l’avion » ? Et bien voici, « Maman, j’ai presque raté l’avion » ! En voici le scénario… Je m’enquière de la situation auprès d’une gentille hôtesse qui me répond que l’embarquement pour Siem Reap a déménagé en porte D1A à l’autre bout de l’aéroport pendant notre sommeil. « Vite, vite, la porte ferme dans huit minutes !... » S’il te plait, pour la suite de l’histoire, il te faut mettre la musique de Mission impossible... Pan ! C’est partie pour la finale du cent-dix mètres haies en direct de l’aéroport de Bangkok !... Ouf, un brin essoufflé, je remporte la victoire haut la main !... Sauf que, … déconfiture totale ! Du même genre que lorsque tes deux meilleurs attaquants sont forfaits pour la finale de la ligue des champions : En porte D1A, ils embarquent pour un vol pour « Abou Dhabi » !!! « Siem Reap, Siem Reap, please ? - Gate J1A ! » C’est pas possible, l’autre andouillette de tout à l’heure ne sait pas prononcer les « J » correctement ! Nouvelle course folle dans l'aéroport. Je prends de nouveau la tête du convoi, les autres tentant laborieusement de me coller au train. Me voyant arriver en courant, l'hôtesse d’embarquement me fait des signes de loin pour m'indiquer que c'est fini… Horreur, malheur !!! Une fois à sa hauteur, Youhou, champagne, elle m’indiquait en fait qu'il n'était pas nécessaire de courir car le vol a du retard. Allez, Champomy, c’est moi qui régale ! Enfin, … verre d’eau pour tout le monde, quoi !
La description de ce 9 février se termine avec une arrivée tardive à Siem Reap, un passage des formalités administratives bien longuet et rudimentaire, et un transport en tuk tuk affrété par notre hôtel pour traverser pour la première fois cette ville que je découvre enfin ; elle que je connais par procuration grâce à toutes mes innombrables lectures préparatoires d’avant voyage. J’ai un peu l’impression de rencontrer pour la première fois une personne rencontrée virtuellement de longue date sur internet. J’ai aussi l’impression de me sentir comme à la maison. Ça me fait ça à chaque fois avec l’Asie du sud-est. Les odeurs, les bruits, l'ambiance… Je ne saurais comment l'expliquer, mais il n'y a pas de période d'adaptation… Un petit mot sur notre hôtel, La Rose Blanche, établissement un peu excentré mais qui nous ravit les yeux dès notre arrivée. Comme dit l'adage, « avec l'âge, on s'embourgeoise ». Il est possible de trouver à Siem Reap des hôtels vraiment pas chers. Mais en mettant un tout petit peu plus que pas cher, il est possible de trouver de petites perles comme le nôtre dans lequel nous passerons les cinq prochaines nuits bien au chaud.
Allez, quelques morceaux de crocodile grillés sur un petit barbecue cambodgien dans un restaurant pas très loin de notre camp de base et c’est déjà l’heure de l’extinction des feux. Je sais que quelques heures seulement nous séparent de nos premières découvertes et il ne faudrait pas qu’on y arrive fatigués. Je te dis donc tout simplement à demain si tu le veux bien, et surtout si tu souhaites nous accompagner dans ce nouveau numéro de Dora l’exploratrice. De toute façon, demain est une autre aventure...

Si je te dis « Salut » dans une langue qui fleure bon l’exotisme, c’est que nous allons ensemble partager un nouveau voyage en direction de l’Asie du sud-est. Et oui, l’Asie du sud-est en hiver, il n’y a rien de mieux pour te requinquer un homme. Et puis l’Asie du sud-est, je l’ai dans la peau, au sens propre comme au sens figuré. Et cette fois-ci, ce sera dans un pays frontalier de la Thaïlande, du Laos et du Vietnam. Pays sous protectorat français jusqu’en 1953, titre d’une chanson de Kim Wilde, pays dont la capitale est Phnom Penh, je suis, je suis, … Ding dong, trop tard !... Le Cambodge !
Qui dit introduction à un nouveau voyage dit aussi interrogatoire. Je mets ma petite robe blanche moulante, je croise, je décroise les jambes, … Oups, j’avais oublié de mettre une culotte… C’est bon, l’interrogatoire peut débuter :
Qui ? Pour m’accompagner, ma femme et mes deux filles qu’on appellera pour cette histoire Sandrine, Anna et Sasha... tout simplement parce que ce sont leurs prénoms ! On devait être accompagné par mes deux parents qui nous ont déjà suivis en Thaïlande il y a maintenant sept ans, mais une petite opération du genou a contraint ma mère à jeter l’éponge dans le visage de son chirurgien au dernier moment. Seul mon père sera de la sauterie en tant que guest star ! On souhaite donc tous ensemble la bienvenue à notre fournisseur d’anecdotes !
Combien ? On part un vendredi et on rentre un dimanche deux semaines plus tard…. Donc si tu comptes bien sur tes dix doigts, ça fait dix-sept jours, voyage compris.
Quoi ? Un voyage mi-routard, mi-pénard. Un circuit optimisé en restant au minimum trois jours par endroit pour éviter de perdre trop de temps dans les transports. De la découverte, des vieilles pierres, de la gastronomie, des rencontres, de la bonne bière, de l’exploration, … Et puis on n’oublie surtout pas de brosser « Martine » dans le bon sens en finissant par quelques jours de repos à l’ombre des cocotiers.
Où ? Pour commencer, le noooooord avec Siem Reap, puis Koh Rong tout au sud. On enchaîne ensuite par Koh Rong Samloem, pour finir tranquillement par Phnom Penh d’où nous regagnerons nos pénates.
Comment ? Scooter, tuk tuk, bus, bateau et tongs. Voilà nos moyens de locomotion ! Come on baby, do the locomooootion...
Bon, je crois avoir répondu à toutes tes questions. Aladin, à la deux, il est donc l’heure d’y aller mon bon génie : Pour tous les amoureux de l’Asie du sud-est ou pour te donner l'envie de le devenir, je déclare donc officiellement ce nouveau voyage ouvert ! Et là, tu te dis peut-être : « Oh, la chance qu’il a !!! » C’est marrant toutes ces personnes qui te répondent systématiquement ça quand tu leur annonces que tu pars en voyage… Premièrement, je ne vois pas ce que la chance vient faire là-dedans puisqu’il suffit de saisir son numéro de carte bancaire sur internet pour gagner un billet d’avion. Crois-moi sur parole, rien de plus simple, on gagne à tous les coups ! Deuxièmement, à tous ceux qui s’imaginent que les voyages, ce n’est que Bisounours et licornes pailletées, je rappelle quand même que la première journée d’un voyage, c’est-à-dire la journée d’aujourd’hui, rime toujours avec aéroport, avion, attente, décalage horaire, fatigue, … Un beau programme à te faire aimer le RER un jour de grève ! Mais rassure-toi, avec moi, inutile d'attacher ta ceinture, ça va être un voyage pépère, hyper rapide, sans zone de turbulences, ni même d’hôtesse à reluquer… puisqu'on est déjà arrivé !! Et oui, moi président, je t’ai exonéré des trois vols qui nous ont menés de Paris à Siem Reap en passant par Amman et Bangkok. Moi président, je t’ai fait grâce de vingt-quatre heures de transport éreintantes. Moi, président, je te dispense solennellement de toutes ces cernes sur ton visage puisque Sandrine se les est toutes accaparées... Seul fait marquant à se mettre sous la dent : Le petit Jésus des avions a sournoisement essayé de nous faire louper notre correspondance à Bangkok ! En direct live rien que pour toi, en voici le récit : On s’installe confortablement dans les sièges en face de notre porte d’embarquement F1A, on s’endort, on se réveille trois heures après, Jean-Michel Ecran au-dessus de notre porte affiche désormais « Shanghai » en lieu et place de « Siem Reap » qui y trônait pourtant fièrement tout à l’heure ! As-tu déjà vu le film « Maman j’ai raté l’avion » ? Et bien voici, « Maman, j’ai presque raté l’avion » ! En voici le scénario… Je m’enquière de la situation auprès d’une gentille hôtesse qui me répond que l’embarquement pour Siem Reap a déménagé en porte D1A à l’autre bout de l’aéroport pendant notre sommeil. « Vite, vite, la porte ferme dans huit minutes !... » S’il te plait, pour la suite de l’histoire, il te faut mettre la musique de Mission impossible... Pan ! C’est partie pour la finale du cent-dix mètres haies en direct de l’aéroport de Bangkok !... Ouf, un brin essoufflé, je remporte la victoire haut la main !... Sauf que, … déconfiture totale ! Du même genre que lorsque tes deux meilleurs attaquants sont forfaits pour la finale de la ligue des champions : En porte D1A, ils embarquent pour un vol pour « Abou Dhabi » !!! « Siem Reap, Siem Reap, please ? - Gate J1A ! » C’est pas possible, l’autre andouillette de tout à l’heure ne sait pas prononcer les « J » correctement ! Nouvelle course folle dans l'aéroport. Je prends de nouveau la tête du convoi, les autres tentant laborieusement de me coller au train. Me voyant arriver en courant, l'hôtesse d’embarquement me fait des signes de loin pour m'indiquer que c'est fini… Horreur, malheur !!! Une fois à sa hauteur, Youhou, champagne, elle m’indiquait en fait qu'il n'était pas nécessaire de courir car le vol a du retard. Allez, Champomy, c’est moi qui régale ! Enfin, … verre d’eau pour tout le monde, quoi !
La description de ce 9 février se termine avec une arrivée tardive à Siem Reap, un passage des formalités administratives bien longuet et rudimentaire, et un transport en tuk tuk affrété par notre hôtel pour traverser pour la première fois cette ville que je découvre enfin ; elle que je connais par procuration grâce à toutes mes innombrables lectures préparatoires d’avant voyage. J’ai un peu l’impression de rencontrer pour la première fois une personne rencontrée virtuellement de longue date sur internet. J’ai aussi l’impression de me sentir comme à la maison. Ça me fait ça à chaque fois avec l’Asie du sud-est. Les odeurs, les bruits, l'ambiance… Je ne saurais comment l'expliquer, mais il n'y a pas de période d'adaptation… Un petit mot sur notre hôtel, La Rose Blanche, établissement un peu excentré mais qui nous ravit les yeux dès notre arrivée. Comme dit l'adage, « avec l'âge, on s'embourgeoise ». Il est possible de trouver à Siem Reap des hôtels vraiment pas chers. Mais en mettant un tout petit peu plus que pas cher, il est possible de trouver de petites perles comme le nôtre dans lequel nous passerons les cinq prochaines nuits bien au chaud.
Allez, quelques morceaux de crocodile grillés sur un petit barbecue cambodgien dans un restaurant pas très loin de notre camp de base et c’est déjà l’heure de l’extinction des feux. Je sais que quelques heures seulement nous séparent de nos premières découvertes et il ne faudrait pas qu’on y arrive fatigués. Je te dis donc tout simplement à demain si tu le veux bien, et surtout si tu souhaites nous accompagner dans ce nouveau numéro de Dora l’exploratrice. De toute façon, demain est une autre aventure...

J'aimerais bien avoir votre opinion sur la façon dont les questions du genre et de l'orientation sexuelle sont perçues dans les différentes régions du monde que vous avez visitées.
En Occident, ces questions sont débattues et les différences de mieux en mieux acceptées, même s'il y a encore beaucoup de chemin à faire. Mais comment ça se passe ailleurs ? En Afrique par exemple, ou en Asie ?
Si je pose ma question sur ce forum c'est parce que j'aimerais avoir des avis de première main. Par exemple, qui d'entre vous a parlé à des hijras (Inde) ou à des Katoï (Thaïlande) de leurs conditions de vie? Savez-vous comment elles/ils sont vu.e.s par leurs compatriotes? Sont-elles/ils admis.e.s ou rejeté.e.s?
Une autre de mes questions tourne autour des touristes occidentales/aux LGBT. Y a-t-il des pays ou des régions où on peut en toute tranquillité afficher ses préférences? Par exemple, est-ce que deux lesbiennes peuvent marcher main dans la main dans le centre de Marrakech ou est-ce qu'il y a des bars LGBT en Chine?
Si vous êtes vous-même concerné.e.s par ces questions, pouvez-vous raconter des anecdotes et bien entendu donner des conseils sur où aller et où ne pas aller?
