Hi everyone, We're heading to Colombia soon for two weeks as a family with our two 10-year-old boys. I'm a bit behind on planning our itinerary and could really use your advice! We arrive in Cartagena, where we'll spend 3 nights. Next, we're heading to the Tayrona area for 3 nights. Could you recommend a nice hotel with a pool, ideally family-friendly? Unfortunately, Senda Watapuy and Senda Koguiwa are already fully booked for our dates. After that, we were thinking of spending a few days in Minca. Is that a good idea in late July/early August? How many nights would you recommend? Finally, we're looking for a last stop before returning to France. We've heard about Mompox, but we're hesitant because it seems like a big detour. We love nature, animals, beautiful landscapes, beaches, and authentic places. Do you think Mompox is worth the detour with two kids, or would you recommend another destination (Palomino, Barú, La Guajira...) instead? We don’t want to take any domestic flights. I'm heading out with friends for a week in the Queyras to hike in this beautiful region, staying at accommodation in Molines-en-Queyras near Saint-Véran, from Wednesday the 19th to Wednesday the 26th of August.

It's accommodation where we can really relax, have breakfast, prepare picnics, and go on day hikes. Some of the Queyras' most famous hikes are less than an hour's drive away. In the evenings, we'll either eat out or cook at the apartment! Right now, there are 8 of us, and since there are 11 beds, 3 more people can still join the group. If you have any questions, don't hesitate! Approximate budget if we're 10 people: 175 € for accommodation + 150 € for restaurants + 55 € for miscellaneous (including shuttles or paid parking) – so a week of hiking at a reasonable price! Hello, I’m continuing the Antalaha–Maroantsetra discussion but for some info in the other direction, specifically about hiking from Maroantsetra to Antalaha.

In mid-December, I plan to take it easy from Tamatave to Antalaha. I’m thinking of making a few stops, like Nosy Atafana—has anyone snorkeled there? Is it nice? Can you find bush taxis on the Soniera–Ivongo / Maroantsetra stretch?

After that, I’m considering walking from Maroantsetra to Antalaha and figuring things out as I go, since the path seems well-used, so I’m not planning on a guide. Good idea or totally foolish? Should I bring a tent and some camping gear, or, as I’ve read multiple times, are there several villages with lodging and food options along the way? Any spots worth stopping at or nothing special to see?

In Antalaha, I saw the recommendation for Villa Malaza in the previous discussion, so I’m keeping that in mind. If there’s space, I’ll plan to stay there. In Antalaha itself, are there any places to visit, things to see, or activities you’d recommend?

We’re heading to Quebec in just over a week to meet up with our son, a young adult on a Working Holiday Visa who’s been there for nearly a year 🙂🙂🙂 and I still have a few questions:

1) We’re starting with 3 nights near Shawinigan (Lac à la Tortue). The day after we arrive, we’ll have a relaxed day with one or two activities (sugar shack in St-Mathieu-du-Parc? A seaplane ride?). Any other suggestions? (Besides Parc de la Mauricie, which we’ll visit the next day.)

2) Then, we’ll head to Quebec City via the Chemin du Roy, where we’ll spend 3 nights, followed by a scenic drive to La Malbaie. We’ll be staying in St-Aimé-des-Lacs near Hautes-Gorges de la Malbaie National Park for another 3 nights. One day will be dedicated to hiking in the park—likely the Acropole des Draveurs for our son, and the Riverain trail plus two shorter walks for my husband and me, since he can’t use hiking poles. So, I’m unsure about the second day: should we go back to the park for the cruise, or do something else nearby? Any suggestions?

3) After St-Aimé-des-Lacs, we’ll spend 3 nights in Tadoussac. We’ll definitely stop at Port-au-Persil, but since the drive isn’t too long, we’ll arrive pretty quickly (I think you say "rendu" here 😉). I was thinking of exploring Tadoussac that day, doing the Pointe de l’Islet trail, the Estuary trail, and the Dunes lookout. The second day, we’d head toward Les Bergeronnes and Les Escoumins to visit the interpretation center and take a Zodiac cruise. I was considering Neptune because they offer covered boats. Any other options? And on the third day, we’d go to Sainte-Rose-du-Nord via the Saguenay Fjord National Park’s Baie Sainte-Marguerite sector to hike part of the "Le Fjord" trail from the Beluga Observation Center. I’m aware this trail requires a park access fee. However, I just realized that the trails we planned for the first day (Estuary and Pointe de l’Islet) are also part of the Tadoussac sector of the park. Do we need to pay the access fee (10.10 CAD) for these two short trails? If so, it might make sense to do them on the third day. In that case, can we pay the fee in Tadoussac, then head to the Baie Sainte-Marguerite sector and use the same ticket?

Hi there, Just back from 25 days in May 2025 in the American West—here are some practical tips that might help you plan your trip.

Flight: 2 tickets for 1270 € with British Airways (Lyon-LA, SF-Lyon) SIM card: 12GB from Sim USA for 39 €. Useful for looking up accommodation every late afternoon. 12GB was enough for us. Car rental: Booked with BSP Autos. 21 days = 538 € for a Jeep Compass SUV picked up at LA airport and dropped off at SF airport. An SUV isn’t essential at all, but since we had one, we did take some easy dirt roads. Driving is straightforward, highways are toll-free. Gas: Averaged $3.80/gallon = 1 €/liter. We drove 6700 km and spent $500 on gas. Big price differences between states, and even between stations in the same state. We checked Google Maps/fuel for the best deals. Water: Not recommended to drink tap water. We refilled two 3L bottles regularly at visitor centers in the parks and froze two 1L bottles overnight to keep water cool during the day. Money: Bring cash for tips and gas—sometimes cheaper when paying in cash. Accommodation: Averaged $100/night. Only the first night in LA was booked in advance. For the rest of the trip, we found places to stay (mostly motels outside the parks) near where we were each late afternoon by checking availability on Booking, among others. No issues finding places in May—the advantage was the freedom to improvise. For example, we’d planned to do the loop counterclockwise: LA, Joshua Tree, Grand Canyon. But seeing the forecast (3 days of snow and freezing temps at GC), we headed straight from JT to Las Vegas, did the loop clockwise, and by the time we got back to GC, the weather was perfect. Weather: Aside from the first 3 mixed days, we had perfect weather—20-30°C, except Death Valley (37°C) and SF (15°C). Food: Depends on your appetite. For us, snacks during the day, a bigger meal in the evening, plus miscellaneous extras—our budget was $40/day. Miscellaneous: The "America the Beautiful" pass is a must—80 $. Website: For us, the best site was roadtrippin’. Our itinerary: LA, Joshua Tree, Las Vegas, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, Arches, Colorado National Monument, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Mesa Verde, Natural Bridges, Gooseneck Point, Canyon de Chelly, Painted Desert Park, Petrified Forest Park, Sedona, Grand Canyon, Route 66, LV, Red Rock Canyon Park, Death Valley, Sequoia Park, Yosemite Park, Big Sur-Monterey, San Francisco. 25 days—we didn’t lounge around, but we didn’t rush either. We took time in each park to drive the scenic routes, visit viewpoints, and do at least one hike (max 2 hours) per park.

My wife, our 3-year-old son, and I are planning a trip along Australia’s East Coast, leaving in early October and returning in mid-November. The plan is to do a 4-week road trip in a campervan, then settle down for about ten days.

The question I’m asking myself is: which way should we go? From Sydney to Cairns or the other way around? Despite all the documentation I’ve read, I’m still struggling to decide the best direction based on the climate at that time and swimming conditions.

Up north, the weather will be warmer, and the water too, unlike the south. However, in the north, there are swimming restrictions, especially because of jellyfish, whereas in the south, there seems to be less danger (apart from sharks, maybe). Are there many protected beaches in the north where we can swim safely? Also, I should consider that in the south, the Great Barrier Reef no longer protects the beaches, so I imagine there are fewer calm spots for swimming?

I’d love any tips or advice you can share, and thanks in advance!

I booked a round-trip to NYC (Newark) from 10/17 to 11/01, 2025 at a good price. Now I need to figure out what to do 😎

The initial idea was to go to Nashville. Why? I don’t really know. For info, we’ve already been to NYC and Washington D.C.

That said, I opened an Excel sheet and put this together:

D1: Arrival at Newark around 9 PM. Pick up car and overnight near the airport D2/3: Philadelphia D4: Lancaster (Amish Village) then drive to Shenandoah NP. Overnight in the northern part of the park (Front Royal?) D5: Scenic road - Overnight in Charlottesville D6: Blue Ridge Parkway - Overnight in Troutville D7: Blue Ridge Parkway - Overnight in Boone D8: Blue Ridge Parkway - Overnight in Asheville D9: Blue Ridge Parkway - Overnight in Gatlinburg D10: Smoky Mountains - Overnight in Gatlinburg

That’s where things get tricky.

If I add 2 nights in Nashville, it really tightens up the end of the trip in terms of mileage.

I thought about doing:

D11/12: Nashville D13: Mammoth Cave > Lexington D14: Fayetteville D15: X D16: Drive back to Newark.

But honestly, I’m not happy with the end.

So I thought about adding Gettysburg by adjusting things and shortening D4, which I felt was too packed: D1: Arrival at Newark around 9 PM. Hi there. We’re spending a month in Sri Lanka in March, and we’ll have one week left after leaving Polonnaruwa. We’re torn between spending it in the Jaffna region or on the east coast between Batticaloa and Trincomalee. We’re divers, so the east coast appeals to us for snorkeling, beaches, and lagoons—but it seems like late March might not be the best time for that coast. What do you think? As for Jaffna, the culture of the region, its more authentic feel since it’s less touristy, and the offshore islands all appeal to us too—but it seems far from the rest of the country and harder to access. We have to choose because we won’t be able to visit both sides, and I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thanks, Marie

I’m trying to figure out how to get from Paris to Marseille or Montpellier with non-disassembled bikes by train in early July 2025... and it’s a total flop!!! Can’t find any trains that offer the bike-on-board option! It’s so complicated between SNCF-CONNECT, OUIGO, and TER INTERCITÉS!!! Nothing’s simple! I want to take my teens and their cousins on a bike trip to the Camargue, but I’ll have to start planning way ahead to sort out bike transport!!! So glad I found VoyageForum for tips! !

We’re planning a 15-day family trip in February 2026 (with 3 teens). We’ll be visiting friends who live in Puebla. Initially, I was thinking of the Yucatán, but after reading up on it, I don’t think it’s the right fit for us (too crowded, too touristy). So, we’re leaning toward something like this: - Mexico City: 2 days (Teotihuacán + city) - Puebla: 3 days - Tehuacán: 2 days (to break up the trip—is this a good choice? Is there enough to do for 2 days?) - Oaxaca: 3 days (Hierve el Agua, Monte Albán, city/tours) - Pacific Coast: 4 days (snorkeling, excursions)

Does this seem balanced? We’d like to end on the coast for some relaxation, ocean time, and fun for the kids. I’ve seen lots of excursions offered along the coast but can’t decide where to stay. Puerto Escondido? Huatulco? The beaches seem better for snorkeling in Huatulco, but I’ve read mixed things, and it’s farther away. What do you think?

For transportation, is this doable by bus? I’m struggling to find a decent bus between Tehuacán and Oaxaca (overnight schedules), and I’m not sure how to get around the coast. Also, how do we handle luggage between cities? We usually rent a car.

Finally, I’d love feedback on the Pacific Coast excursions—I get the feeling some are worth it and others aren’t. Is bioluminescence really magical? Are dolphin-watching tours ethical and not too "factory-like"? (We skipped them in Quebec and just watched whales from shore.) Can you see sea turtles up close?

From Lacanau Océan to Névache, July 4–13, 2024. Stopping at roadside markers and signs in towns, on trails. I left home in Corsica, took the boat from L'Ile-Rousse to Sète, then headed up to Lacanau-Océan for the start of the 45th parallel. Destination: north of Briançon, Plampinet (Névache municipality). For more info and photos, check out my FB page "45th Parallel". I did it solo, on a 125cc scooter, a Honda Forza with no mechanical mods. Under-seat storage, a top case, a bag strapped to the rear seat with bungees, and two side bags that gave out in the first few days due to poor quality. Used a GPS, smartphone apps like the famous "68°", "my exact location", and "Ventusky" for weather. Plus paper road maps and a travel journal. Various accommodations (camping, B&Bs, a yurt, and staying with friends). In total: 2,700 km total, including 1,800 km from Lacanau to Névache via small, lost-but-so-pleasant backroads. Crappy weather from Sète to Lacanau, then nice conditions. Estimated fuel consumption: 3 liters per 100 km. No mechanical issues—neither with the scooter nor myself. One regret: I didn’t take enough time to meet people. For info...: At nearly 77, I still feel the need to do things differently—like the GTA (Grande Traversée des Alpes 😠, the climb to the metallic globe at Nordkapp, Norway (which I did by sea)😠, the trip to southern Portugal😠, etc. On top of that, after an accident and two major knee surgeries, I can’t hike, bike, trek in the desert, or even walk 1 km on sand. That’s also why I can’t ride a motorcycle with bent legs… * Feel free to share your thoughts or ask for more details.

Bonjour , j'avais réservé un vol aller et retour chez easyjet (Lille / Nice ) le vol retour , l'horaire a été changé 1 fois il y a 2 semaines environ .Maintenant je reçois un mail le vol aller est annulé , avec la possibilté d'un remboursement ce que j'ai demandé .D'autre part et pour la 2 ème fois le vol retour subit un changement d'horaire mais là , mas là , pas la possibilté de remboursement ces changements ne me conviennent pas du tout . j'ai acheté un TGV aller retour .

Est ce que quelqu'un peut me dire si je peux annuler ce retour avec remboursement ou quel recours je peux avoir pour cette annulation ???

J’ai comme projet de partir avec mon chien en itinérance vélo en Septembre de Toulouse à nice . Je souhaite passer par montpelier puis marseille puis destination finale. J’ai un peu étudié l’itinéraire et je pensais prendre le canal de Toulouse jusqu’à Sète. Première question connaissez vous le chemin le plus sécurisé pour rejoindre montpelier depuis Sète ? Je vais tirer mon chien grâce à une remorque enfant et donc je souhaiterais éviter le plus possible les routes avec beaucoup de passages. En-suite je voulais savoir si quelqu’un l’avait déjà fait ? Puis de montpelier à Nice je pensais emprunter l’eurovelo 08 . Je voulais savoir si quelqu’un connaissais une meilleure option car je souhaite vraiment m’arrêter à Marseille et cette route longe mais n’y passe pas tout à fait. Dernièrement je suis en train de préparer le voyage et j’ai la remorque pour chien mais je compte investir dans un vélo solide , en vue de ce projet et des futures projets sachant que j’ai le poids d’un chien de 24 Kg a tirer. je me suis renseignée et chaque site propose une marque et un vélo différent dit performant et il y en a tellement et tellement de marques. Je n’ai pas non plus un énorme budget sachant que je compte acheter tout le matériel qui’il faut avec mais je comptes quand même investir un peu dans le vélo . Alors avez vous des conseils pour le vélo , la marque et le matériel que ce du matériel de bikepacking et toutes autres conseils que vous poubez me donner ?

Je compte prendre un vol de Paris, m'envoler pour l'Italie et une fois sur place m'y déplacer en train. Je pensais atterrir à Venise , rejoindre les Cinq Terres puis terminer par la côte (retour par avion de Naples) mais il semblerait que le trajet Venise<-->Cinq Terres ne soit pas de tout repos en train (plusieurs changement). Est-ce que ceux qui ont une bonne connaissance du réseau ferroviaire italien peuvent me dire s'il est préférable de faire un V soit:

atterrir au nord (Cinq Terres ou Venise ?) descendre sur la côte almafitaine puis remonter vers la région qui n'aura pas été faite en 1 (le billet d'avion du retour dépendant bien sûr de cette dernière) ?

Sachant que quelque soit le tronçon envisagé, il y en a pour +5h, peut-être qu'il y a moyen d'optimiser le circuit en remplaçant le train par un vol interne sur l'un des parcours sans trop faire exploser le budget ?

Nous aimons particulièrement sortir des sentiers battus afin de découvrir l'authenticité loin des hordes de touristes.. Si quelqu'un a des suggestions, nous sommes preneurs. Merci d'avance

Nous prévoyons de faire un voyage de 2 semaines dans les Highlands en Écosse cette été. Nous avons d'ores et déjà prévus de passer une semaine complète sur l'île de Skye pour pouvoir en profiter au maximum sans courir.

En revanche, rien n'est encore fixé pour la deuxième semaine. Nous pensions faire une deuxième semaine complète en trouvant un point d'ancrage autour d'Inverness, histoire de prendre un jour pour découvrir le Loch Ness, un autre jour pour traîner à Inverness et un autre pour faire un tour dans le parc national des Cairgorms mais est-ce que c'est trop ? Ne vaut-il pas mieux faire une étape d'un ou deux jours à Ullapool au nord ou Fort William au sud ? J'avoue que j'aimerais bien découvrir la côte Est au Nord ou au Sud d'Inverness mais je ne trouve que très peu d'infos à ce sujet, avez-vous connaissance de lieu à voir ? Est-ce que notamment entre Inverness et Aberdeen n'y aurait-il pas des endroits à ne pas manquer ?

Nous sommes plutôt intéressé pour découvrir la nature (la faune marine notamment) et les petits villages, pas forcément des visites de tous les châteaux (même si on n'y manquera pas d'en faire un minimum ;)).

Nous avons réservé un vol vers New York du 21 au 31 Mai Mon idée est de rester 5 nuits à New York (j'ai déjà mis une option pour un hôtel proche de Times Square) puis de louer une voiture afin de faire un circuit en direction de Boston avec retour directement à JFK. A ce propos je pense que nous nous éloignerons de NY en bus (très économique) pour louer une voiture à New Haven par exemple. Cela devrait nous faire une économie d'environ 300€ par rapport à une location au départ de NY et beaucoup moins de complications pour sortir de la ville. D'après mes lectures, la côte entre NY et Boston n'est pas très intéressante et j'aimerais bien avoir des conseils à ce propos. Que visiter autour de Boston? Je suis allée à Boston il y a 25 ans (!) et j'en ai gardé un excellent souvenir. Est-il nécessaire d'aller jusqu'à la pointe de Cape Cod ou vaut-il mieux se limiter à Martha's Vineyard? 5 jours pour ce circuit seront-il suffisants? Merci pour vos bons conseils

En pleine préparation de notre 3eme visite de l'Australie: ce sera cette fois-ci de Darwin à Perth. Au vue des prix des 4x4, hélas cela se fera en van aménagé, à moins que vous n ayez un bon plan!

Nous arrivons à Darwin le 18 septembre et repartirons de Perth le 14 avril ce qui nous laisse 26/27 jours sur place.

Alors, sans pouvoir faire les kimberleys (hélas!!!) - je lis que certaines choses sont tout de meme accessibles en van (comme Emma Gorge, Argyle, Bungle Bungle, Derby) les connaisseurs qu en pensez vous? -, il nous faudra aussi faire l'impasse sur le Francois Perron NP. Les autres sites sont tous accessibles ou presque ensuite par des routes +/- goudronnées, vrai?

Le circuit habituel Litchfeld, Kakadu, Broome, Karijini, Cape Range, Exmouth, Kalbari, Pinnacles, Pemberton... en 26 jours ca nous laisse le temps de profiter et d'en faire plus mais quoi? Voir pour passer par Uluru???!! (ou favoriser l'avion), pousser vers Kalgoorlie en y faisant une boucle pour profiter du début de l Outback et des champs en fleurs à cette époque la?...

quant au "camping", sur la cote Est, difficile de dormir gratuitement malgré le wikicamp. Savez vous si l application est fiable? Ici dans l'ouest, Est-il facile de dormir dans le van aménagé ou mieux vaut il se tourner vers des campings payants?

Bonjour à tous ! L'été prochain , je vais passer quelques heures à Hermosa beach en Californie et j'aurais souhaité stocker mes valises quelque part le temps de me balader et de profiter de la plage. La veille j'aurai dormi à Anaheim ( après 3 jours à Disneyland/DCA) donc laisser mes bagages dans cet hôtel n'est pas possible et le soir je prends l'avion retour pour la France à LAX. Précision : Je n'aurai pas de voiture pour laisser mes bagages dans le coffre.... En fait , comme mon vol est le soir , j'aurais voulu passer les quelques heures avant le départ au bord de la plage plutôt qu'à Anaheim et je comptais donc prendre un Uber pour faire Anaheim-Hermosa Beach , puis , en fin d'aprem Hermosa Beach - LAX.... Mais en cherchant sur internet je ne trouve aucun " luggage storage" à Hermosa ....Quelqu'un connaît-il une solution ? D'AVANCE MERCI !!!
