Location Map of Greece
Mainland Greece

Mainland Greece is the part of the country stretching from the northern borders to the Peloponnese. Like much of the country, it’s an area where sea and mountains meet, offering stunning landscapes and several interesting natural zones perfect for outdoor activities, such as the Pindus Mountains or the Mount Olympus. While the region may have fewer beach resorts than the islands, it remains rich in culture and history, with notable sites beyond Athens, the capital, including Delphi and the cliff-top monasteries of the Meteora and the famous Mount Athos.
Peloponnese

This large mountainous peninsula, with its rugged coastline, lies south of mainland Greece. It is home to a third of the population on less than 20% of Greek territory. Touristically, the Peloponnese is a diverse and rich region, featuring numerous ancient sites (including several UNESCO-listed ones like Mystras, Olympia, and Epidaurus), beautiful sea and mountain landscapes ideal for hiking, and some lovely beaches for swimming enthusiasts.
Crete

The largest Greek island and the fifth-largest in the Mediterranean, Crete is a destination in its own right. Stretching over 250 km parallel to the African coast, it’s a mountainous island that will delight lovers of stunning landscapes and hiking. But Crete also boasts a rich and distinct history and culture, particularly its Minoan-era sites like Knossos, the most famous of all. And of course, the island is also renowned for its many beaches and seaside resorts.
The Other Greek Islands

Greece is among the countries with the most islands and islets in the world. Estimates range from 3,000 to... 10,000 (!), with a few dozen offering decades of holiday joy. Whether you're looking for beaches, nature, historical or ancient ruins, quiet islands, or lively ones—even party destinations—there’s something for everyone...
