Bonjour à tous,
Sans vouloir être alarmiste, mais surtout pour que vous vous teniez au courant de ce qui se passe pour l'instant dans le Sud de l'Amérique du Sud (Chili et Argentine), voici deux liens (en castillano) qui parlent du volcan Puyehue et du volcan Hudson, plus au sud (45º54'02" S et 72º55'59" O à la hauteur de Comodoro Rivadavia côté Chili).
Pour le Puyehue, il vient de lacher depuis hier un nuage de fumée plus dense qu'à l'habitude vers Bariloche, Villa la Angostura et le SO affectant les villes Chiliennes de Osorno et Puente Montt où tous les vols ont été annulés; à une plus grande hauteur, il affecte le sud de la province de Neuquén et l'ouest de Rio Negro.
Je conseille à ceux qui sont ou qui vont dans cette région de se munir de masque (Barbijo, prononcer barbico), en pharmacie ou dans les ferreteria.Ces cendres provoquent des iritations aux yeux et le système respiratoire.
Pour le volcan Hudson qui se trouve à côté de Aysén, Río Ibañez, Chile Chico au Chili sur la même ligne que Comodoro Rivadavia mais au Chili avec une altitude de 1553m, il vient de passer en alerte rouge par les autorités chilieenne.Pour le texte, lisez toute l'information sur les sites ci-dessous.
Soyez prudents et surtout renseignez-vous correctement (à la police ou gendarmerie) ne tentez pas le diable car cette région et plus que désertique. Je pense surtout à Géonautes et Louis et Michèle qui sont de ce côté pour l'instant. Je répète pour eux que Chile Chico est sur les pentes de ce volcan.Allez surtout vous achetez des masques car s'il y a une éruption, les ferreteria ou farmacia seront envahies. Ayez surtout de l'eau en suffisance.

Renseignez-vous pour les vols vers le sud de l'Argentine et le Chili car il y aura certainement des vols supprimés. Vols supprimés vers Osorno, Puente Montt (Chili)

Merci pour ton message sur les 2 volcanos. Je suis en train d'oragniser un voyage pour moi et ma famille en Argentine/Chile
pour mi-dec au 1ère semaine de Janvier 2012 et ça me freine un peu vu qu'on voulais faire surtout vers Bariloche et San Martin et après côté Chilé, Pucon et puis plus au sud. J'hesite car mon mari et moi vont voyager avec nos 3 enfants de 6, 4 et 18mois. Est-ce que vous avez des idées à me donner sur une itenaire plus sûre pour l'argentine/Chile? Merci d'avance.

Non, je ne saurai dire car je ne sais pas ce qui pourraît vous faire plaisirs. Vous êtes au Brésil, et je suppose que vous avez déjà visiter pas mal l'Amérique du Sud.
Comme votre voyage est très près cela est difficile. Je suppose que vous voyagez en voiture.
La route des 7 lacs que vous voulez faire, jusqu'à hier était possible, maintenant, je ne peux vous dire.
La nature commande.
Avez-vous déjà visiter le nord, Mendoza, San Juan, la Rioja, Catamarca, Tucuman, Salta, Jujuy? C'est également à voir et très joli.
Je vous recommande de suivre les informations d'un peu plus près et de prévoir une autre alternative à votre voyage.
Je suppose également que d'autres sur VF pourront vous donner des idées sur votre futur voyage.
Ce n'est pas la peine d'aller se mettre dans la gueule du loup surtout avec trois enfants en bas âge. Si vous tenez vraiment à ce voyage, prévoyez des masques et des lunettes.
Je continuerai à donner des informations sur ce problème.

oups, nous partons fin novembre et sommes inquiets : nous avons un avion BA / el Calafate, passons 2 jours à El Calafate puis prenons le bus pour puerto natales, visite de TdP enfin vol de Punta Arenas à Santiago
Savez vous si les vols sont encore pertubés, comme nous partons peu de temps, nous n'avons pas de solution alternative (attendre, prendre un bus...)
j'ai lu que les vents violents soulévent les cendres déposées en juin et bloquent les aéroports?

Vous avez vos billets pour fin novembre, il est trop tard de changer vos plans.
J'ai mis le lien de journeaux argentins, suivez-le tous les jours, ce que je vais faire.
On ne sait pas aller contre la nature!
Arriver à Buenos Aires, vous y arriverez.
Jusqu'à présent, il y a eu les aéroports Argentins qui ont été fermés tour à tour; Montevidéo également, aujourd'hui, Santiago de Chile et les aéroports du sud Chiliens. Que sais-je? Demain, ce sera peut-être autre chose!
Le volcan Puyehue est en activité plus ou moins intense depuis juin et l'Hudson est en alerte rouge pour l'instant.
Si quelque chose de grave devait arriver d'ici novembre (encore un mois pour vous), vous devrez vous plier aux exigences qui se présentent à ce moment là.

Ceci est le problème qu'il y a pour l'instant sur Bariloche-Villa la Angostura-La route des 7 lacs.
Je constate que la route 231 est réouverte de l'Argentine vers le Chili mais avec les heures de 8h à 20h mais il faut s'y prendre tôt car la papraserie est longue.

La Oficina de Prensa de la Dirección Nacional de Vialidad (D. N. V.) informa sobre el estado de transitabilidad de la red vial nacional correspondiente a las provincias de Río Negro y Neuquén afectada por la presencia de ceniza:
Ruta Nacional N° 237:
- Tramo: Collón Curá/Neuquén: Transitable con extrema precaución por ceniza volcánica en suspensión y sobre la calzada. Fuertes vientos reducen la visibilidad.
Ruta Nacional N° 234:
- Tramos: Empalme Ruta Nacional N° 231 hasta Lago Villarino; Lago Villarino hasta La Rinconada (Empalme Ruta Nacional N° 40): Transitable con extrema precaución por visibilidad reducida por arena y ceniza en suspenso y sobre la calzada.
Ruta Nacional N° 231:
- Tramo: Empalme Ruta Nacional N° 40/Aduana: Transitable con extrema precaución por visibilidad reducida por ceniza volcánica en suspensión y sobre calzada.
- Tramo: Aduana/ límite con Chile: Transitable con extrema precaución por equipos trabajando en el despeje de calzada. Paso Internacional Cardenal Samoré habilitado en el horario de 8 a 20 horas.
Ruta Nacional N° 23:
- Tramos: Los Menucos/ Maquinchao; Maquinchao/ Ing. Jacobacci; Ing. Jacobacci/ Clemente Onelli: Transitable con extrema precaución por visibilidad reducida por cenizas volcánicas en suspenso y adheridas a la calzada.
- Tramos: Clemente Onelli/Comallo; Comallo/ Pilcaniyeu (Viejo); Pilcaniyeu (Viejo)/ Empalme Ruta Nacional N° 40 (ex 237): Transitable con extrema precaución por visibilidad reducida por polvo y cenizas volcánicas en suspenso.
Ruta Nacional N° 40:
- Tramos: Circunvalación a San Carlos de Bariloche (Ruta Nacional N° 40); Bariloche/Límite Neuquén/ Empalme Ruta Nacional N° 231: Transitable con extrema precaución por arena y ceniza volcánica en suspensión, que reducen la visibilidad, y sobre la calzada.
- Tramo: Empalme Ruta Nacional N° 231/ Collón Curá: Transitable con extrema precaución por arena y ceniza volcánica en suspensión más fuertes vientos, que reducen la visibilidad, y sobre la calzada.
Vialidad Nacional recomienda a los conductores circular con precaución; con las luces bajas encendidas; llevar el cinturón de seguridad; disminuir la velocidad y evitar las maniobras bruscas.
Conduire avec précaution, phares de croisement, ceinture de sécurité, diminuer la vitesse et éviter les manoeuvres brusques.
J'ajoute que cette route est parcourue par le trafic des camions venant et allant au Chili(çà roule vite!)

Un rappel également, le volcán Puyehue lache toujours ses cendres et la visibilité est très difficile.
Autre information, le “Paso Cardinal Samoré” entre Villa la Angostura (Bariloche) route 231 est réouvert mais de 8h00 à 20h00.
Les formalités de douane sont assez lourde, ne vous présentez pas à la dernière minute.
Pour ceux qui ne lisent pas l'espagnol comme notre amie ci-dessus, il y a un traducteur sur Internet, je suppose que tout le monde sait s'en servir.Vous aurez une bonne traduction surtout du principal que vous devez savoir.

Je viens de lire les dernières nouvelles sur l'Huson, mais j'attends demain pour voir si cela se confirme. Le volcan Hudson a diminué d'intensité mais l'alerte est toujours rouge.
Pour toi descendre sur Comodor Rivadavia, je pense que tu ne seras pas inquiété. Je serais de toi, j'irai dans une fereteria acheter un Barbijo et des lunettes qui te couvre les yeux, au cas ou tu devrais avoir des cendres; ne t'y prends pas trop tard car si cela se passe, tout le monde va se lancer et tu n'en auras plu. Ou alors tu fais comme dans le désert comme les méhari!
Pour ce qui est d'un passage, j'ai l'impression, en vélo, de devoir remonter jusque Villa La Angostura sur la route 231 et de passer au Chili ainsi. Car le col Chile Chico est fermé.

voici les dernières nouvelles au sujet de ce volcan provenant des autorités chilienne. Ceux-ci se sont mis en rapport avec le Gouverneur Argentin de Chubut Mr. De Neves pour un plan d'urgence en cas d'éruption.
Essayez de lire (avec traducteur) cet article car on y parle d'autres activités géologiques qui sont interressantes de connaître dans cette zône.

Pour information, relisez bien les instructions qui sont sur votre passeport et qui rappellent de ne pas se rendre dans des zônes à risque (guerre...) sans en prendre toutes les précautions. Dans ce cas, aucunes assrances ne vous couvrira et votre consulat sera peut-être si pas certainement en mal de vous aider. Je répète que ceci n'est qu'un rappel d'information.

Je suis actuellement à Buenos Aires et je dois me rendre à El Calafate et à El Chaltén vers la mi novembre. De là, je pensais remonter par la Carretera austral jusqu'à Puerto Cisne, puis rejoindre Chiloé.
Etant donnée l'activité éruptive du volcan Hudson, je crois que je vais devoir repenser mon projet. Hier j'ai téléphoné aux carabineros de la Estancia Candelario Mancilla qui me répondent que pour l'instant, le volcan ne gêne pas le passage jusqu'à Villa O'Higgins mais ils me conseillent de suivre les événements de près et de les rappeler dans quelques jours.
J'aimerais avoir des témoignages de randonneurs se trouvant actuellement à Calafate et/ou à Chaltén et qui pensaient suivre cet itinéraire vers le Chili. Est-ce encore possible et raisonnable?
Chaltén pourrait-il être affecté par les cendres du Hudson?

Para quienes no son de Bariloche: La primavera en esta zona andina es ventosa, y por supuesto levanta la ceniza y arena depositada, pero el volcán Puyehue tiene actividad en descenso, no explota cada vez que “hay viento”. En el verano el viento decrece mucho y las lluvias aplacarán la ceniza. Así es la naturaleza. A los medios nacionales que reciben este mail - que son muchos - les pido por favor si está dentro de sus posibilidades - que colaboren con toda la ciudadanía, indicando donde queda exactamente el volcán Hudson (no lo confundan con el Puyehue), una manera directa de ayudarnos es mostrando fotos de cada zona ACTUALIZADA.
Muchas gracias por todo el trabajo que vienen haciendo, contamos con que todos Uds. desean que las cientos de miles de personas que viven en la zona comiencen a recuperarse, como lo han demostrado en el esfuerzo increíble que vienen haciendo con las Campañas para Línea Sur, y todas las donaciones que hemos recibido gracias a sus publicaciones, algunos periodistas nacionales se han esforzado "personalmente". De verdad nos han ayudado mucho.
Ahora es necesario trabajar para recuperarnos, y en toda la zona trabajamos del TURISMO, si trabajamos nos recuperaremos más rápido y le significaremos a todo el ESTADO mucho menos esfuerzo e inversión, somos una comunidad trabajadora! Sabemos que la zona sufrirá por un tiempo el impacto negativo de la explosión de un volcán, pero ya pasó, necesitamos recuperarnos SIN MENTIR, y sin EXAGERAR.
Los ciudadanos de la zona usamos barbijo cuando hay viento porque hace 4 meses que respiramos polvillo (no toxico) y es recomendable usarlo pero si no lo usamos no vamos a morir intoxicados. Nadie que venga a la ciudad se verá damnificado directamente por el polvillo, a las personas con afecciones previas fuertes, simplemente les recomendamos consultar con su médico (invitamos a los médicos a ponerse en contacto con los centros de atención de la ciudad)

Les habitants de la zône portent des masques lorsqu'il y a du vent car cela fait 4 mois qu'ils respirent cette poussière (non toxique) et il est recommandé de le porter car s'ils ne le portent pas, ils vont finir par mourir intoxiqués. Toute personne qui vient dans la ville ne se verra pas pris directement par la poussière, pour les personnes avec des affections respiratoires excessives, simplement, on leur recommande de consulter leur médecin (nous invitons les médecins à se mettre en rapport avec les centres d'attention de la ville).
Si vous voyagez en camping car ou voiture ayez la bonne idée de nettoyer vos filtres à temps.

Meilleures nouvelles aujourd'hui 31 octobre, le volcan se ralentit et n'a plus que 1km de nuage au-dessus de lui. L'alerte rouge est maintenue pour les deux volcans(Hudson et Pueyehue).
L'armée Chilieene a été déployée dans la région de l'Hudson.

Pour répondre le plus correctement à votre question, je vais vous traduire l'article paru avant hier dans La Capital:
Ceci dépend des facteurs climatiques.
On s'attend à un glissement de terrain au Glacier Perito Moreno.(ARGENTINA)
Le front du glacier Perito Moreno pourrait avoir de nouveaux glissements de terrain, car le Canal de los Témpanos sur le Lac Argentino s'est refermé et le niveau d'eau du bras Rico a monté de plus d'un mètre. Ceci pourrait donner un début dans le processus qui arrive à la rupture, un des phénomènes naturels le plus important au monde.
Les sources du Parc National Los Glaciares indiquent qu'on ne peut préciser si cela arrivera à la rupture car cela dépend du phénomème climatique.
L'Intendant du parc, Carlos Corvalán, a annoncé le mois passé que la paroi Est du Perito Moreno avait touvé la terre à la Péninsule de Magellan.
Après plusieurs mesures, Corvalan expliqua qu'il existe une différence de niveau de 1,10 mètres dans le Bras Rico, " ce qui nous confirme que le glacier a fermé totalement le passage de l'eau", indiqua-t-il.
La dernière rupture qu'on a pû observer du glacier, fût le 9 juillet 2009. Auparavant, il y eut des glissements en 2006 et le 14 mai 2004.
Le Perito Moreno est la superficie de glace la plus grande après l'Antartique, il couvre 47 grands glaciers et 200 autres de plus faible intensité, qui donnent l'origine aux Lagos Argentino et Viedma, certains avec l'embouchure sur l'Océan Atlantique à travers du Rio Santa Cruz.

We're planning a trip to southern Chile in November. Here's our tentative itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Santiago, then a flight the next day to Balmaceda where we'll pick up a rental car to reach Coyhaique.
Day 3: Walk in the Coyhaique National Reserve, then continue to Puerto Chacabuco. Return to Coyhaique for the second night.
Day 4: Drive to Villa Cerro Castillo for a hike in the national park. Continue to Puerto Tranquilo and stay there for 3 nights.
Day 5: Boat tour on Laguna San Rafael.
Day 6: Day trip to Monte San Valentin Glacier.
Day 7: Excursion to the Marble Chapels, then drive to Puerto Guadal. We'll stay there for 3 nights.
Day 8: Walk along Lago Carrera and return to Puerto Guadal.
Day 9: Rio Baker Valley and, if possible, a glacier excursion.
Day 10: Drive to Cochrane and hike in Tamango National Reserve. We'll stay 2 nights in Cochrane.
Day 11: Walk in the Chacabuco Valley.
Day 12: Drive to Caleta Tortel. We'll stay there for 2 nights.
Day 13: Cruise in the Rio Baker delta.
Day 14: Return to Cochrane.
Day 15: Return to Balmaceda in two stages.
Day 16: Continue the return journey.
Day 17: Return the rental car and head back to Santiago.
After this, we're also planning to explore northern Santiago. I'll post about that part once I have a clearer idea of the route.

I’ve sketched out a rough itinerary but I’m not sure how to arrange it—considering the climate, year-end holidays, and Carnival.
Basically, I’m thinking of the Amazon, the Northeast coast with Lençóis Maranhenses National Park (but skipping Chapada Diamantina),
Ouro Preto, Paraty, and Ilha Grande—but no Rio visit.
Is this doable in 3 months?

After lots of research and quotes, it’s the only one offering Uyuni at a reasonable price while meeting all the criteria: transfer to the border, private-room accommodation, and a very fair rate. Hi everyone, French travelers in Chile—what credit cards do you use for your various car rentals in the country? I’m traveling in September and was planning to switch my regular debit card (a VISA PREMIER in deferred debit mode) for the deposit guarantee.
My rentals are with Figal in Punta Arenas, Econautos in Arica, and Chilean Rent a Car in Temuco, and all of them want the deposit on a credit card. For me, deferred debit *should* work, but I’ve read comments saying the opposite.
How’s it actually working on the ground with these rental companies right now? Will a deferred debit card work, or not at all?
In France, banks don’t issue credit cards, right—or am I mistaken?

I’m desperately looking for info on the schedules and routes of (shared) boats to visit the islands of Lake Titicaca.
From what I’ve found, there’s a *combi* (bus) that leaves from Puno to go to Llachon. Where do you catch it? What are the schedules and frequency? Does it take about 1 hour?
Then in Llachon, you can take a boat to Amantani (45 min). Same question—where do you check for frequency and schedule?
After that, from Amantani, boats go to Taquile and then Uros. Do you have enough time to visit the islands between two boats? Frequency and schedule?
The goal is to do this tour independently (no agency) over 2 days. Thanks for any tips you might have!
I just got back from a trip to Bolivia and wow—what a wake-up call. It’s not the easiest country, but it’s absolutely stunning.
I started with Isla del Sol, perfect for easing into the altitude at a relaxed pace. Try to stay in the northern part of the island—it’s quieter and the views are insane. And the trout there? Unreal. Quick tip: bring cash in small bills; they almost never have change, and cards are rarely accepted.
Next up, La Paz. The city’s pretty wild, built in every direction. I did a few hikes in the area, including the famous Charquini Lagoon (the blue lake) at over 5,000 m—let’s just say I struggled 😅 but it was so beautiful it was totally worth it.
After that, I headed to Sajama. It’s cool, especially for the hot springs, and I stayed in Tomarapi. But honestly, if you’re short on time, you can skip it without too many regrets.
The highlight of the trip: the Salar. I did it starting from Tupiza, and I *highly* recommend going Tupiza → Uyuni. Way less crowded at the start and the landscapes are super varied. For the tour, I used SplitYourGuide to find a group, and it worked out great. Super handy for splitting costs and meeting people.
I wrapped up in Sucre—this city is gorgeous, all white, with such a chill vibe. And the salteñas + ice cream? Next level 😋
Bottom line: Bolivia’s a bit rough around the edges, sometimes exhausting (shoutout to the altitude), but it’s 1000% worth it.

I was planning to go to Réunion and stay in half-board accommodation with non-professionals, but it seems that’s not really the custom there—or maybe my budget isn’t big enough.
So, since I’ve already traveled around Ecuador and Peru, I’m now looking at Argentina, especially for its mountains (like the ones in Réunion that tempted me, even though—frustratingly—I could only admire them from below).
I plan to get around by bus and don’t know in advance where I’ll sleep, so I won’t book ahead. If I like a place, I might stay for several days.
I know that in Chile, it’s easy to find half-board accommodation, but what about in Argentina?
I’d like to stay with locals in half-board without it being a professional setup. I’m not sure if this is common practice there. It’s up to me to find someone willing to host me.
What do you think?
What would be a fair price (keeping in mind that 40 to 50 € is the max I can spend on accommodation, breakfast, and dinner)?

We’re heading to Patagonia for three weeks in November, starting from Coyhaique in Chile.
We won’t have a car, and I’m struggling to find information about transportation options for a few parts of the itinerary we’d like to do:
1) From Perito Moreno (the town, near Los Antiguos), we’d like to travel down Ruta 40 to visit Perito Moreno National Park and then cross into Chile via the Paso Roballos (at the latitude of Bajo Caracoles) to reach the road to Cochrane. Without a car, it seems we’ll need to use private agencies to get to the national park—do you have any recommendations or suggestions? Also, does anyone know if it’s possible to cross into Chile via Paso Roballos (from Bajo Caracoles) without a rental car? That is, without having to go all the way down to El Chaltén or back up toward Perito Moreno/Los Antiguos, etc.?
2) The second stretch that seems a bit tricky (though still easier, in theory) is from Caleta Tortel to Villa O’Higgins on the Chilean side. Do we have to go back through Cochrane, or are there ways to get directly from Tortel to Villa O’Higgins?
3) Finally, we’d like to hike into Argentina (El Chaltén) from O’Higgins. Any recommendations for this? Do we need to go through an agency? What’s the estimated duration of the trek?
As you’ve probably gathered, we want to visit some off-the-beaten-path spots but don’t have a car, so we’re looking for the best possible compromises.

we’re planning a round trip from San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, to Salta, Argentina, in two months. On the way there, we’ll take the northern route via Susques, Route 27, then 52. But for the return, we were thinking of taking the southern route via San Antonio de los Cobres, Route 51, then 23. Is it similar to the northern route in terms of road surface? How busy is it, and are there gas stations? Basically, should we be worried about doing it in an SUV that’s supposedly 4x4 but has regular road tires and no second spare wheel, obviously...
I’ve seen that we can stop over in San Antonio de los Cobres.

we’ll be in Calama at the end of March 2026, and I’m looking for a reliable car rental there for a 7-day road trip to Salta, Argentina. But I’m struggling with the car rental agencies in Calama because the reviews can be scary. I saw Gyg, which has great ratings, but I’m a bit wary (5/5 from 59 reviews—either the guy’s amazing or it’s fake...), but I can’t find any recent reviews on VF in general.
For Punta Arenas, I booked with Dachelet and didn’t have any issues with email exchanges.

Three years ago during a trip to Java (no, I didn’t post in the wrong forum!), I came across the address of former miners who had switched to “tourism” and organized nighttime ascents of the Kawah Ijen volcano and descents into the crater.
