Hi I’d like to know if anyone has used a Revolut Visa debit card to pay in Wyoming and Utah and whether it’s widely accepted. Thanks

Yes, it's great—you convert your € into US $ No fees except on weekends, when there might be charges when you exchange your euros for dollars. Avoid withdrawals on weekends too. Perfect for paying hotels every day. And you have proof of payment on your smartphone in case they try to charge you a second time. This happened to me twice in the United States. The Revolut card is accepted in all states. However, you can't use it to rent a vehicle. You need a CREDIT card. A DEBIT card like Revolut or any other won’t be accepted. There you go—have a great trip! I use the Revolut card everywhere in the world

Thanks a lot! So, I need to transfer euros to Revolut and then exchange them for $ Are there any fees if I pay for a hotel in $ from my Revolut account in €?

Hi Louis. No fees if you exchange your € to $ in France before leaving—just avoid weekends as there are fees then. Bring some cash in dollars, especially if you're doing a road trip. It's better to pay for fuel in cash; sometimes they offer discounts. These are two beautiful states with stunning wide-open spaces. If you have time, head to the Black Hills in South Dakota—it's near Wyoming, a bison paradise and Sioux land. Have a great trip—it's really enjoyable driving through these states.

Oh, and by the way, I don’t know now, but Booking.com has a partnership with Revolut

One thing to watch out for with Revolut: Unlike what I’d done before, I can no longer top it up directly from my bank card—Visa’s system blocks it. You have to transfer funds from your bank account instead. On one hand, that adds a layer of security, but on the other, it can be tricky accessing your bank’s website from the other side of the world!

Otherwise, I’m really happy with it.

Hi there, In Belgium, instant transfers from the bank up to 1000 € are easier and faster than using Visa.

Hi there, thanks!

Yeah, I’d already seen that for gas stations and some operators. In Belgium, fewer and fewer banks offer foreign currency.

Up north, I did Glacier on the US and Canadian side, but not Dakota yet—it was too out of the way this time.

Revolut lets you make transactions in multiple currencies. You can use your EUR account to pay in the United States. Revolut will automatically convert the currency at the current exchange rate when you make a payment in USD with your EUR account.

Opening a USD account is an option, but it’s not necessary to make payments in the U.S., since Revolut handles currency conversion automatically.

For example, on the weekend it'll be better to have dollars directly in your account. That way, you'll avoid paying exchange fees. It also depends on whether you have a free or paid card that offers certain perks. When I was in South Africa, I exchanged euros for rand as I went along. In Madagascar, I'll keep my money in euros because the currency isn't available on Revolut. At ATMs, you might also face exchange fees. Anyway, everyone does what works for them.

Thanks! How do you go about opening an account in $ Louis

Good evening Louis, 1st Click on Account 2nd At the bottom, click on Add 3rd Big rectangle where it says Account and Currency. Click on it 4th 30 currencies appear. Click on US dollar. You’ve opened a USD account. You can open others if you want. After that, enter an amount in € that you want to exchange for $. Do the exchange during the week. Not from Friday evening until Monday morning to avoid paying fees. (The agents are off duty.) You can exchange several amounts in a row, as you like. There you go. If you have any issues, ask a young person to help you. They’re more at ease with this stuff than we are. I ask one of my sons for help. I’m 67—I wasn’t born with a smartphone.
