Cash Advance in Thailand

Hi there. I wanted to check and asked Krungsri Bank if they offered a cash advance at the counter to avoid Thai ATM withdrawal fees. They told me yes, but only up to 200 baht. No, I didn’t forget a zero—it’s not even 6 €... That doesn’t get you very far.

Can anyone confirm this info, or are there banks that offer a larger cash advance? Krungsri is the only bank that does currency exchange in the town where I’m currently staying in Thailand.

Unfortunately, right now it’s not even worth 5 €.

Hi,

I don’t have any experience with this, but from what I’ve read elsewhere, yes, it’s possible. You should know that initiative isn’t really a thing here—if they don’t know, the answer is NO, and they won’t bother asking their supervisor. So go back and ask to speak to a manager.

That’s exactly what I just went through at Bangkok Bank (not Krungthai this time). I spent over an hour there and had to fight for it! So much incompetence—unbelievable! Because I actually had my info ready. Even the branch manager I asked to see after the staff kept saying "no no" and "I don’t know"... was just spouting nonsense (half in English, half via Google Translate).

But I managed to pull it off, and it’s a great deal—no extra fees were taken from my French account (even though it’s a currency transfer to a non-EU country, I was wary).

I just checked the transaction on my (French) account, and even better, the amount debited in euros was 1.45 € less than what I’d calculated based on the euro rate they’d given me at the Thai bank.

The exchange rate is also really good (I’d been tracking rates at different banks and exchange bureaus I knew over the past few days), since it’s a direct bank-to-bank transfer.

I’m glad I gave it a try.

I don’t understand what your final solution was, and I’m wondering what you did (or didn’t do) at the SuperRich at the airport?

But where did you read that I was talking about the SuperRich at the airport in these messages? I left Bangkok a long time ago!

You mentioned it in your previous post. I guess you didn’t want to carry a lot of cash with you.

So how did you end up solving the problem?

Glad you made it there. 😉

It’s not really incompetence, but there’s no initiative. When they don’t know, it’s NO, and they don’t even try to ask their direct supervisor or even headquarters. I’ve had this kind of issue with BKK Hospital, Samsung, PTT (fuel), Nok Air… you have to fight for it, but you’ll get there in the end

You mentioned it in your previous post. I assume you didn’t want to carry a lot of cash on you. So how did you handle it to solve your problem?

But I didn’t have a problem! You’re assuming things that aren’t true. I just wanted to try it because I’d never done it on a trip before—I read about it in a Facebook group discussion and wanted to give it a go.
